Groulx, Floyd J. 'Lucky' Sterling, Michigan (Formerly of Bay City, MI) Floyd "Lucky" J. Groulx, age 89 years, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 in Medilodge of Sterling. He was born to the late George and Eva (Hall) Groulx on March 11, 1916 in Detroit, MI. Floyd was a former resident of Bremerton, Washington until moving back to Bay City in 1990. He was employed with Webber Construction Company in Bay City for several years. Floyd was married to the former Susanne M. Strub and she preceded him in death on March 22, 1989. Survivors include his brother, George Groulx of Newberry, MI; three sisters: Ellen (Groulx) Kenny of Drummond Island, MI, Elsie (Groulx) Diamond of Mt. Morris, MI, and Mary Jane Groulx of Drummond Island, MI; his nieces and nephews: Jeannie Kenny, Lori (Kenny) Dailing, Victor Kenny, Vernon Kenny, Jim Diamond, Dave Diamond, Tom Diamond, Richard Kalke, and Laurel Lee (Kalke) Freeman. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Groulx and his step-sister, Violet (Groulx) Kalke. POQUETTE, DENISE JANINE HOOD, 38, of Clearwater, died Sunday (Oct. 9, 2005) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She came here in 1973 from her native Chicago. She owned and operated a cleaning business and was working on a degree in nursing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed animals. She was a Seventh Day Adventist and kept an online Web site journal at www.caringbridge.org. Survivors include two sons, Shawn and Zachary, both of Dunedin; her mother, Pamela Hood, Clearwater; her father, Carroll Hood, Brooksville; two sisters, Sandra Scheule, Palm Harbor, and Cathy Hood, Tallahassee; a brother, Douglas Hood, Clearwater; her grandmother, Kathryn Harmison, Chicago; her companion, Michael O'Hara, Dunedin; and several nieces and nephews. J.B. JOUBERT, born January 9, 1942, went to be with his Lord on October 5, 2005. J.B. served 8 years in the U.S. Army and of those 8 years, he spent 2 in Vietnam. He was a longtime devoted member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Houston. He will be greatly missed by his daughters: Lisa Marie Joubert and fiancé Len Bennett, Angela D. Smith and husband Sgt. First Class Joseph K. BOUDREAU, EDNA MILLIE (RAFTERY), 61, died Monday, in Goldsboro NC. Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Hannagan) Raftery. She was the mother of George Frye, Jean Doster, William Frye and Mary-Ellen Rossi; sister of Jean Quattrini, Richard Raftery, Donna Quattrini, Marion Leclerc, Colleen Elias, and Maisie Raftery. ALLENSTOWN -- Roland H. "Rich" Richard, 75, of Lincoln Street, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Harris Hill Health Care Center in Concord after a period of failing health. A lifelong resident of the Pembroke-Allenstown area, Mr. Richard was born March 14, 1930, the son of Joseph and Angeline (Cusson) Richard. In his early 20s, Mr. Richard joined the U.S. Army. He earned the rank of sergeant and served as a tank commander in Germany during the Korean conflict. He was a member of both the John J. Maguire American Legion Post No. 28 and the VFW Post No. 2860 of Suncook. Working as a carpenter most of his life, he retired as a foreman for the E.D. Swett Company and had also been employed by the Guy S. Langstroth Company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Routhier Council No. 4666. He enjoyed working woodlots and playing pool. Because of his skills as a carpenter, he enjoyed helping family members build their homes. His family includes his wife of 51 years, Germaine (Dion) Richard of Allenstown; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and James Laverdiere of Pembroke; and two grandchildren, Keith and Christine Laverdiere. He was one of 11 children, survived by only a sister, Connie Saucier of Pembroke. Six brothers, Rudolphe, Leon, Raoul, Edward, Armand and Donald Richard, and three sisters, Lucille Renaud, Rita Chevrette and Annette Vezina, predeceased him. Calling hours will be held Fridayfrom 4 to 7 p.m. at Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown, with the Rev. Donald Clinton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Carlton J. Toups, Sr. on October 8, 2005. Beloved husband of the late Rita Reulet Toups. Father of Allen, Carlton, Jr. and Kevin Toups. Son of the late Miller and Alma Laiche Toups. James Fraser Cunningham 1916-2005 HILDEN AND NEW GLASGOW, NS - It is with great sadness the family of James Fraser Cunningham announces his peaceful passing on October 8, at Williams Country Home in Hilden, NS. He was born in Stellarton on the Ides of March during the First Great War, and during a blinding snowstorm, the son of William Henry and Elizabeth Bannerman (MacLellan) Cunningham. Fraser and his wife Helene were both direct descendents of John MacLellan, who arrived in Pictou on the ship Hector in 1773. Fraser credited the MacLellan branch of the family for his love of work, study, worship, craftsmanship and thrift; from the Cunningham side came the sense of humor, the music and the stubbornness. His early years were spent on the family farm in Riverton, NS. In his teens he began raising bees and thus began a life-long passion. A self-taught musician, he began playing banjo with the Peerless Orchestra at the age of fourteen. By the 1930's he was playing clarinet and saxophone in popular dance bands such as the George Condon Orchestra and the Peerless Entertainers, as well as with the Pictou County Symphony, and in the 1970's became a member of the New Glasgow Dixieland All-Stars. Fraser entertained young and old alike with his 'Professor Harry Hurley Horn' clown routine, and was always in demand as a piano accompanist at party singsongs. His last official musical engagement was at age 76, playing the banjo in the musical "Christie", in Pictou, NS, but he continued to play the piano until September of this year. He served in Halifax with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1942-1946 as an instructor in aircraft recognition. Following the war, he began his studies toward his Chartered Accountant degree, graduating in 1950. Most of his career was spent in New Glasgow, with three years in Moncton, retiring from Proudfoots in New Glasgow in 1981. Fraser was a long-time and enthusiastic member of the Gyro organization, and was Governor of District V1 in 1976. He received the Merit Award, the Honor Key, and in 1993 the International Gyro of the Year Award, the three highest awards from Gyro International. He also researched and wrote a book on the history of the District V1 Gyro International. He and Helene made many dear friends throughout their years in Gyros and enjoyed bowleramas, curling bonspiels and countless happy get-togethers in their company. During retirement his creativity blossomed, and he took up many new pursuits. He became an avid oil and watercolor artist. Each Christmas he delighted family and friends with individually hand painted cards that have become keepsakes for many. He wrote and published over 120 newspaper and magazine articles, many children's stories as well as two books, one of which was "The Glory of Living", his memoirs, a treasured gift for his family. He designed and planted beautiful flower gardens, researched his family tree, enjoyed regular fishing excursions during the summer and weekly skating during the winter. He also learned to cook and became caregiver to several family members over a period of many years. A faithful member of Trinity United Church in New Glasgow, Fraser sang in the church choir for over 20 years, served on the Board of Stewards, was a church elder, a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and served as church camp treasurer for seven years. His fine example was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. We will miss his wisdom, humor, generosity and music, and most of all, his love. Helene, his loving wife of 63 years, predeceased Fraser in December 2004. His brother Henry and sisters Jessie and Louise also predeceased him. He is survived by his children, Judith Dobson (Phillip) of Hillsborough, NB, Audrey Jordan (Robert) of Truro, NS, and Bill (Cheryl) of Langley, BC; eight grandchildren, Melody, Susan and Wendy Dobson; Jennifer, Andrew and Darren Jordan; and William and Kelly Cunningham and their mother Sharon; and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Bill of Sackville, NB; and sister, Barbara Leech (Richard) of Nepean, ON, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Trinity United Church, New Glasgow on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 1:00 P.M., followed by a time of music and recollections in the church hall. RZEPKA, Marta, Passed away peacefully on October 10, 2005 at The Versa Care Centre in her 100th year. Marta was born on October 24, 1905 in Brzeziny Slaskie, Poland. Separated from her husband by World War II, Marta and her son George were reunited with her husband by the International Red Cross. They arrived in Canada to join Pawel in 1958. She was a member of the O.L.P.H. church for 48 years and a member of the Ladies Rosary Society. She is predeceased by her husband Pawel (1978), sons-in-law Jan Krol and Jozef Tomala and daughter-in-law Helen Rzepka and all her siblings. She is survived by daughters Helena Krol and Regina Tomala of Poland and son George Rzepka of Grimsby. Loving Babcia of grandchildren Barbara Tomlinson of Hamilton, Joa nne Juras of Beamsville, Valerie Rzepka of Toronto, as well as Jacek Tomala and Gabriela Zieba of Poland. BROWNE, Paul Arthur 1949-2005 - It is with sadness that the Browne family announces his death at the West Nipissing General Hospital, on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the age of 56 years, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Beloved husband of 34 years of Danielle Liette (née Rivet). Cherished father of Michelle (Christian Millman) of Des Moines, Iowa, Bill (Amy) of Midland and Pete (Lisa) of Ottawa. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren, in whom he took great delight; Jacob, Lucas, Jack, Katelyn, Christian, and Andrew. Mr. Browne is survived by his sister, Catherine (Stephen Douglas) of Deep River. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law Hubert Rivet (Lise), and René Rivet (JoAnn), both of Sturgeon Falls. Paul was very proud of his nine nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Hazel Browne. Paul was born on October 1, 1949 in Oakville. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto and an accomplished mechanical engineer. His contributions to the field of engineering can be found everywhere from race car tracks to NASA programs. Paul touched the lives of many people and will be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends. Because of his kindness, he loved helping people - always with a smile on his face. A pillar of strength, Paul was a man of good character, who was respected by all who came in contact with him. Paul loved being on the water. Among his passions was designing boats and writing comical short stories. In Florida, he constructed his own boat and also won a boat design contest. The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2005 in Sacré Coeur Church, Sturgeon Falls. Funeral Mass to follow at 1:30 p.m. celebrated by Reverend Father Gérald LaJeunesse. RAYNE - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Rayne for Elizabeth Walther "Betty" Guidry, 79, who died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at her home in Rayne.The Rev. John Locasio and the Rev. Martin Leonards will officiate at the service.Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Mausoleum.She was a Master Judge in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation and was devoted to the beauty of flower arranging and gardening. The love she had for flowers flowed through in her love for her many friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. At one time she served as the State Librarian of the Dames of the Court of Honor. She was an 8th generation descendant of Capt. John Ford from which she drew her lineage. The John Ford Historical Museum is the sight of theJohn Ford Home, better known as the Ford Stockdale, located in Sandy Hook, Miss. The home is reminiscent of the 18th century forts built in the Mississippi Territory in the late 1700s. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The home remains very much as it was originally with many of the original furnishings. One of the most memorial guests was Gen. Andrew Jackson whose army camped at the stockade while marching to the defense of the city of New Orleans during the War of 1812.She was the corporate secretary of the family businesses and in 1975 worked with her husband to found the Interco Companies, a company that grew from distribution in all 50 states and on into the international markets. DAVID JOHN MOWE David John Mowe passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005 at the Riverside Health Centre in Fort Frances, Ont. after a lengthy illness. He was born March 7, 1958 in Kenora, Ont. David is survived by his mother, Sybil Mowe; son, John; and two brothers, William and James Mowe and families. He was predeceased by his father, Werner Mowe. Cremation will take place, and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Cowles: Harold Edward December 7, 1914 - September 30, 2005 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Harold at Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 90. Harold was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his mother Henrietta Legacy, his father Harold Cowles and his brother Carlton Cowles. Married for 68 years, Harold is survived by his wife Helen Cowles, and daughter, Beverley Larson. Grandchildren: Kevin and wife Judy of Chilliwack, Jeff and wife Kathy of Drumheller, AB, Graham and wife Carrie of Sooke, B.C.; and six great-granchildren, Dale, Marissa, Kyle, Tyler, Reanna and Eric. Harold and his family settled in Drumheller, AB in the early 1920's. He met and married his wife Helen (Kerr) and had one daughter Beverley. He worked as a finishing carpenter and enjoyed working with his hands, building and fixing many things from radios, cars, appliances and woodworking. He also enjoyed music and played the banjo, violin and saxophone in his orchestra called The Blue Jays. They played for many dances around the Drumheller community. In 1956 they moved to Calgary and in 1963 to Surrey, B.C. Followed by their daughter and her three sons in 1970. The past four years were spent in Chilliwack close to daughter Beverley and grandson Kevin's family. Harold will be missed by many other family members close to our hearts as well, and, joining us at this sad time. The family wishes to thank Dr. M. Gruno, as well as the nursing staff on the third floor of Chilliwack General Hospital for the care they provided.

Delia (Proulx) Sataline, 93, widow of Dominick M. Sataline, died Tuesday (October 11, 2005) at Ridgeview Health Center in Cromwell. Born in Salmon Lake, Quebec, Canada, she has lived in New Britain since 1927. Delia was employed at the East Side Restaurant for 15 years until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of St. John's the Evangelist Church in New Britain; and of the Ladies Guild in the church. FLYNN, James Maurice Retired Lt. Colonel James Maurice Flynn CD, "Moe" to his former colleagues and friends, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the age of 74. Dearly loved husband of Elayne. Son of the late Anna and Frank Flynn all of Charlottetown, PEI. Loving father for our family, Michael (Elaine and daughter Emily-Anne), James (Karen) and Susan (Andrew Buzza). His grandchildren, Jordyn, Samantha, Tara and Trevor will fondly remember their Poppa. Predeceased by his older brother Thomas (Doris) and Michael's first wife Dorothy. Maurice has received support and love from Ruth and Joe Field of Charlottetown, PEI and Fredda Gerard of Burlington, Ont., and is also survived by many nieces and nephews living from coast to coast. Graduating from St. Dustan's University (UPEI), class of 1954, and he joined the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps where he had a full and challenging 33 years of service. His career led to our family living overseas three times cumulating to his last overseas posting as CO of the 73rd Service Batalion for UN Peacekeeping in Egypt. Viewing will be at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Thursday, October 13 between 2 and 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. Catholic Mass will be held Friday, October 14 at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 685 Walkley Road. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
