BARKER, Alan Robert (1919-2005) Peacefully in hospital at Carleton Place, Ontario on Thursday, October 6, 2005 in his 86th year. Dearly loved by his wife of 58 years Melba Barker (nee Hogarth). Treasured father of Janet Messervey (Rob). Much loved grandfather of Maggie. Survived by his sister Isobel Nesbitt (Aubrey). Alan will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his cherished son James Alan Barker, and his siblings Helen Drummond, Wallace Barker and Ruth McDougall. Alan's life was filled with devotion to his family, friends and community. He was a respected businessman and founder of the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home where he worked well into his eighties. Alan served in World War II Royal Canadian Corps of Signals from 1939-1945, M.I.D. Alan was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 192. He was the recipient of the distinguished Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship awarded by the Queen Mother in 1979 and was named Carleton Place Business Person of the Year in 1993. ENDICOTT, Robert J. (Major Ret'd - RCAF) Passed away peacefully, in the loving presence of immediate family, on Thursday, October 6, 2005, at age 65, after a six-year battle with cancer, during which he always kept his sense of humour, quick wit and love for life. He soared through the skies in Canada, U.S., Germany and France during his 37-year career as a military fighter pilot on CF-104 Starfighters, T33s, T37s, T38s, Tutors, CF-100s and Auroras, and later as an executive pilot on Dash-7s and Dash-8s. During his retired years, he enjoyed walks with his wife Ursula and their dog Teddy and getting together with family and friends at his favourite place, the cottage at Sharbot Lake, and at home in Orleans. Bob was a beloved friend and husband of Ursula (nee Wittmann); loving father of son Tom and daughter-in-law Michelle of Stittsville, and daughter Christine and son-in-law Jon Fee of Prescott. Wonderful grandfather of Alyssa, Sydney and Savanna Endicott; and Kelly and Johanna Fee, who all loved his stories. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 14 at 1 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. Many thanks to the staff of Home Care and the doctors and nurses in the oncology unit of Ottawa General Hospital for the wonderful care during his final weeks. EUSTACE, Edward Carter (1919 - 2005) At the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on October 5, 2005, Carter Eustace, retired Royal Bank Manager - Oakville and World War II veteran (Signals Corps. 4th Armoured Division), in his 87th year. Born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1919, Carter was the beloved husband for 59 years of Helen, much loved father of Marilyn (David), David (Franca), and Mark (Nancy) and cherished grandpa of Andrew Clark. Also survived by his sisters Mrs. Murray Malloy (Margaret) and Mrs. Richard Smith (Vera) as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. HOLLIES, Gertrude Mary Suddenly at Rideau Place on Monday, October 3, 2005, aged 91 years. Dear wife of the late John (Jack) Herbert and loving mother of Michael (Janette). Born in Winnipeg, Gertrude received the Governor General's Medal at St. John's High School and was a valued member of varsity basketball, hockey and track teams. After earning a B.A. with Honours from the University of Manitoba she obtained her diploma in education and taught in Dauphin and Winnipeg. Gertrude married Jack in 1939 and 8 years later settled in Manor Park where she lived happily for 56 years. Her steadfast support of her husband's demanding law career was crowned by her nursing of him at home during his final illness. Her patience and her affection for her son was unwavering. Gertrude derived great pleasure from her friends at her book and french clubs and particularly fellow members of the Canadian Federation of University Women. An accomplished painter she enjoyed Robert Hyndman's art classes for many years and exhibited in Ottawa with her works now enjoyed in Canada and abroad. Her other activities included golfing, snowshoeing, piano playing and travelling. Her keen mind relished tough scrabble games and crossword puzzles. Gertrude worked as a visiting teacher for the Ottawa School Board and attended St. Columba Anglican Church. Her spirit, compassion and integrity set a fine example. She will be missed. Predeceased by his parents in Poland, his daughter Elizabeth of Toronto (1988), and his brother Kazimierz of Warsaw. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Poland. Jerry spent five years in concentration camps (Auschwitz) and following liberation he joined the Polish Navy in Britain. JOHNSTON, Judy-Ann (nee Johnson). Passed away after a courageous ten month battle with cancer on October 6, 2005. Judy-Ann was a devoted and loving wife to Keith Johnston. She is survived by her mother Evelyn and was predeceased by her father Albert Johnson in 1991. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Jason and daughter-in-law Shannon, her daughter Sabrina and son-in-law Todd, her daughter Amanda and son-in-law Gary and her daughter Morgan. Judy-Ann was a wonderful and doting grandmother to James, Gabrielle, Sasha, Gavin and Steven. She is also survived by her brother John and sister-in-law Diane as well as a niece Jessica and nephews Bruce and Lee and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Judy-Ann had many friends who were fortunate to have been touched by her passion for life, her great sense of humour and her genuine love for all. She will live on in all of our hearts forever. OBITUARY MARY JANE WHITE 1957-2005 Sadly we announce the passing of Mary Jane on October 2, peacefully in her Halifax home after a long and courageous battle. Beloved daughter of Peter and the late Beatrice White of Montreal and step-mother Mary; she leaves behind her husband, Daniel O'Connell and children Sean and Kathleen, brother David White and sister-in-law Wilma of Cambridge, Ontario. Many nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues, and neighbours remember her huge laugh and generous spirit. After an early education at Mount Royal High, Mary Jane graduated from St. Mary's University School of Social Work. As a staff member of the provincial New Democratic Party she guided many election campaigns with notable success. Most recently she worked as programme manager in the conflict management and outreach programmes at Henson College of Dalhousie University. Donations in Mary Jane's name may be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada at 118 Victoria Street North, Sarnia, Ont. N7T 5W9. A celebration in her honour on October 8 is being held at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel in Evaristus Hall on the Mount St. Vincent Campus, Halifax. FIELD, Richard Harry "Rick" - Passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, on Friday, October 7, 2005. Richard was the beloved husband of Jessie Anne Thompson, he was 62 years old. Loving father of Jarod and Brandon Curwin. Dearly loved brother of Marlene and her husband Bob Greene of Cornwall and Noreen Cooke of North Bay. He will be fondly remembered by his father-in-law Bill Thompson of Thornbury, by his four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law and by his many nieces and nephews. Richard was the proprietor of North Bay Optical, operating it from 1968 until 2001. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a former member of Duck's Unlimited. Visitation will be held in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Monday, October 10th from 1 p.m. until time for funeral services in the Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Cremation will follow the service. FORTIN, Maurice - At North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Friday, October 7, 2005 at the age of 68 years. Beloved husband of 47 years to Estelle Corbeil. LONG, Richard Douglas Richard Douglas Long, born March 29, 1950 of Abbotsford, B.C., passed away suddenly in Hope, B.C on September 26,2005. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Richard moved to Vancouver where he met and married Adrienne. Richard leaves behind his wife Adrienne, his sons Brennan (Wendy), and Donald (Barbara) and three grandchildren Corey, Samantha and Brianna, all of Abbotsford, along with three brothers David, Glen and Gerry, and one sister Virginia, and his father Louis, all of Ontario. He was predeceased by his mother Georgeina in 1999. Richard was a helicopter pilot, an entrepreneur and was continuously busy with many projects on the go at one time. She was born in Blind River, Ontario. She worked as a housewife and worked for over 30 years at Cochrane's Hardware Store and the D. & D. Hobby Shop, retiring in 1983. A resident of Vincent St. for many years, she was a member of St. Jean de Brebeuf Church. Marguerite was a devoted mother and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her priority. She was especially proud of them. Following her retirement, she became an avid traveller. Marguerite leaves a rich legacy of love, faith and devotion and will be sadly missed and never forgotten. CARTER, Heather (nee Baldelli) In loving memory of Heather Carter, 58 years, Thursday evening September 29th, 2005 in Pitt Meadows, B.C. MUNRO, John "Keith" In loving memory of John "Keith" Munro, 79 years, who passed away Friday, October 7th, 2005 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Beloved husband of Jean (McLenaghan) Munro of 51 years of Sudbury. Loving father of Darryl Munro of Sudbury and Elaine Rivest of Brantford. Cherished grandfather of Natasha and Sasha Rivest; Matthew and Jeffrey Munro. Dear son of John and Pearl Munro McNeeley predeceased. Dear brother of Wellingdon (wife Mildred) of Lanark. Special uncle to Larry and Ray. Brother-in-law of Alta Rodger (Clive), Eileen Malette (Rheal), Carolyn Horton (John), William H. (predeceased 1997), (Shirley McLenaghan, friend John McConnell). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. In 1952 Keith left the farm in the Ottawa Valley to work for Inco. He worked as a miner and instructor until retirement in 1985. He continued his passion for horses, breeding, raising and racing from a farm in Blezard Valley. He belonged to Inco's Quarter Century Club and the Church of the Ascension. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many happy times at his camp on Lake Nepawassi. Keith will be remembered for his excellent work ethic, which could be summarized If you're going to do something. Do it and Do it right. He was devoted to his loving family. Lloyd T. Bissonnette, 82, of Ellington, husband of Elizabeth (Marcantonio) Bissonnette, died Friday, (October 7, 2005) at a local convalescent home. He was born in Putnam and was an Ellington resident for 32 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Thomas Bissonnette of Columbia, Todd Bissonnette of Ellington, Dean Bissonnette of East Hartford; his daughters, Sharan Flanagan of Maine, Kyle-Jean John of Oregon; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
