1922 - 2005 À la Résidence Cardinal-Vachon, Québec, le 7 octobre 2005, à l’âge de 83 ans 4 mois, est décédé l’abbé Jean-Luc Pelletier. Né à Saint-Jean-Port-Joli le 6 mai 1922, il était le fils de feu dame Adelia Dubé et de feu monsieur Joseph Pelletier. L’abbé Pelletier a fait ses études classiques au Collège de Lévis et ses études théologiques au Grand Séminaire de Québec. Ordonné prêtre le 15 juin 1946, il a d’abord été vicaire à la paroisse de St-Casimir de Portneuf et par la suite à la paroisse de Notre-Dame-de-la-Présentation de Thetford Mines. Après des études à l’Université Catholique de Washington et l’obtention d’un doctorat en droit canonique de l’Angélicum à Rome en 1956, il a œuvré au Tribunal ecclésiastique de Québec où il fut Vicaire judiciaire de 1969 à 1975 et de 1981 jusqu’à sa retraite en 1991. De 1964 à 1975, il fut également aumônier de la Maison de la fédération des Chanoinesses hospitalières de Saint-Augustin. De 1975 à 1981, il fut curé de la paroisse de Saint-Roch de Québec. Les funérailles seront célébrées le mardi 11 octobre 2005 à 14h, en l’église de Notre-Dame-de-l’Espérance (chemin du Petit Village, Beauport) où les membres de la famille recevront les condoléances à compter de 13h30. Le défunt laisse dans le deuil son neveu Denis Gosselin; ses nièces Monique Gosselin, Marcelle Gosselin et Suzanne Lévy, de même que ses cousins, cousines et ami(e)s. LANDRY, Laffin Le 21 septembre 2005, à l'âge de 87 ans, après 60 ans de mariage, est décédé M. Laffin Landry. GORDON, Lindsay, Elmo In loving memory of Lindsay Elmo Gordon, 79 years, who passed away Friday morning, October 7, 2005, at Extendicare York. Born and raised in Tehkummah, he married Sheila in Sudbury in 1974. He worked 32 years for Falconbridge Nickel Mine, retiring in 1984. Lindsay enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards. He leaves a great legacy for his family and friends, he brought much laughter to the world with his wonderful sense of humour and much love with his dedication to family. BARKER, Alan Robert (1919-2005) Peacefully in hospital at Carleton Place, Ontario on Thursday, October 6, 2005 in his 86th year. Dearly loved by his wife of 58 years Melba Barker (nee Hogarth). RADFORD, Jerry Alexander Of Woodstock. Born January 20, 1919 in Pulawy, Poland, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Woodstock General Hospital. Son of the late Alexander and Sophie Radziwonczyk. Beloved husband for 53 years of Eugenia (nee Broszko). Cherished father of Tess Radford of Ottawa. Predeceased by his parents in Poland, his daughter Elizabeth of Toronto (1988), and his brother Kazimierz of Warsaw. Dear brother of Maria Reczek of Lublin and brother-in-law of Sophie Bailey and Roman Broszko both of Whitby and Joe Grochowski of London. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Poland. Jerry spent five years in concentration camps (Auschwitz) and following liberation he joined the Polish Navy in Britain. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55, the Woodstock Sailing Club and the Duplicate Bridge Club. MERRILL, Audrey Jean (nee Bissell) Darlin'-Audrey-Birdie-Aud-Mum-Mom-Mommy-Nanna-Grams-Gramma-Grandma-Granny Audrey-Gran Mamma- By all these names do we know her. Audrey died peacefully at home on October 5, 2005, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family, as she had wished. Audrey was predeceased by Elizabeth Dempsey (sister), Alex Bissell (brother) and parents Jean and Lloyd Bissell who called her "Birdie". She is survived by her husband Robert, daugthers Cathryn Brooks, Nancy Merrill, Barbara McIntosh, Alexandra Merrill, and son Andrew Merrill, grandchildren Blue McLaughlin, Morley, Luke and Leah Wilson, Deylan, Jarod and Heather McIntosh, Tim and Lindsay Howard, Christopher and Christiana Merrill, Matthew and Morag Morison, and great-grandchildren Ellen Howard, Madelyn Underhay and Julia Merrill. Audrey was born in Ottawa, October 18, 1923. Until she was 16, she alternated the years living in Ottawa with her family, and living with her Uncle and Auntie Mullin in various parts of Ontario. After high school, she went to Ottawa Ladies College, and worked during the war years in the government. She married Robert Merrill in 1946, and over their 59 years together, they lived many places and had many adventures in Kingston, Ontario, Baltimore, Maryland, Thetford Mines Quebec, Montreal and New South Wales, Australia. When they came back to Canada, they settled in Peachland, BC, where Audrey spent many hours enjoying the peace and beauty of the lake, and the boisterous play of grandchildren in the pool. Over her time there Audrey was involved with the Peachland Hospital Auxiliary, TOPS and the Kelowna Hospice. Her great and growing clan gathers to grieve, remember and honour her this weekend. Audrey loved to have her family gathered around her; to feast, to laugh, to tell stories. She was always game for an afternoon chat over a pot of tea. (And if you asked, she would read your tea leaves.) She was keenly curious, always wanting to get the goods on people's lives, family and friends alike. She had a knack for striking up conversations with anyone anywhere. She was a great host and for many years, her dinner parties were events to remember. She loved sweets, most especially ice cream, and you couldn't get up from her table without dessert. Naturally, she created a family of people who loved to cook, and a few sweet tooths. She had a talent and a passion for shopping too - she could shop every one of us under the table! Audrey was a world traveler, and with Bob, enjoyed many treks around the globe - to U.S.S.R., Japan, Africa and Europe. Before she lost her hearing, music was a big part of her life. Audrey was a wonderful piano player who could play by ear. She loved to make things for people, and her handmade afghans and sweaters are spread out over the world now, warming her kin as we remember her. Bridie you have loved us and worried about us and fed us and clothed us and shopped for us and made sure we were all okay, Now, may you have the peace and freedom from pain you've so deserved. And may you hear music. The family service will be led by Audrey's son-in-law, Reverend Glenn Morison. Marie Julia Barousse Slemmer of Covington died on Wednesday, September 21, 2005. She was 86 years old, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for the past 40 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Josepoh Harry Slemmer, Jr. She is survived by the children: Marie Rivet and husband Pie, Catherine Quave and husband Tommy, Laura Bridges, Patricia Rohm and husband Milton, and Michael Joseph Slemmer and wife Pamela; her son-in-law Daniel Wahl, Sr.; and her brother Irvin Barousse and wife Jean. Also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Rockel and Matthew Barousse; her daughter Harriet Victoria Wahl; Brother Charles Barousse and his wife Marguerite; her granddaughter Jamie Marie Jourdan. PHILBRICK, James Alan, Passed away peacefully in is 84th year, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 after a short illness. Ever loving husband of Alice and devoted father to Wayne, Gerald, Martin, Garth and Sandy, Ian and Tish and grandfather to Michael, Justin, Amanda, Melanie, Avia, Leah, Craig, Sarah, Matthew, Carly and Alicia and great-grandfather to nine more children. Alan served in the Air force during World War II. His working career was spent on the Vineland farm and at General Motors. His real career started 25 years ago when he retired and could spend all his time at auctions, in his shop and doing things with and for his family and friends. He served on the executive of the Rowing Alumni for years and gave relentlessly of his time keeping the clubhouse functioning. He has been cremated and wanted private family ceremonies. WATERVILLE -- Lila A. Cote, 66, of Elmhurst Street passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a long illness.She was born Nov. 9, 1938, in Chisholm, the youngest of the six children of Emile and Annie (Gallant) Fournier, and was a graduate of Jay High School, class of 1957.She married Richard Cote of Livermore Falls at St. Rose of Lima Church on June 27, 1959, and lived in Boston and several Maine communities before the couple settled in Waterville in 1970, where they raised their own family of six children. The couple divorced in 1998. A dedicated mother and homemaker, Lila was a staunch advocate of education. She encouraged her children to pursue higher education and took great pride that each of her children excelled in academics and completed their college degrees.Lila worked for several employers in Waterville after her children were of school age; she was employed by Hannaford Brothers supermarkets for many years before her retirement in 2002. She was a seasonal employee of L.L. Bean in Waterville from 1999 to 2004. Her work allowed her to enjoy warm friendships and acquaintances with co-workers and customers. She had the gift of gab and was rarely without a kind observation or friendly word for those whom she met. Her sunny disposition made her a favorite among co-workers, classmates and neighbors. Always willing to lend a caring ear, Lila made lasting friendships easily. She encouraged friends and family alike to "dream big" and lent them great support in their efforts to achieve their goals. She delighted in gardening and was accomplished with her handiwork; she was a talented seamstress, craftswoman, knitter and crocheter. She enjoyed making special meals and handmade gifts for her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. In more recent years she took pride in the design and supervision of the renovation of her house, creating a lovely home that she enjoyed sharing with friends and visitors. She also enjoyed the adventure of traveling throughout the United States and abroad with siblings and her children.Throughout her life, and even during her extended illness, Lila carried herself with grace and ease. Her friendly smile and demeanor ensured her place in the hearts of friends, family and caregivers to her last hours. A devout Catholic, Lila was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Rosary Sodality in Waterville. Lila is survived by her six children, Laura and husband, Roger Quandt, of Sidney, Rick Cote and his wife, Kathleen of Tampa, Fla., Lynne and husband, Jeff Bragg, of Mount Vernon, Lisa Coté of Fryeburg, Robert Cote and wife Bethany of China, Brooke (Leslie) and husband, John Kehoe, of Thomaston. Lila is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Emily and Annie Quandt, Ryan, Owen and Camille Cote, Elise and Lily Bragg, Samantha and Emma Cote, and Aedan Kehoe. She will be dearly missed by her brothers, Paul Fournier and wife Lorraine of Palm Bay, Fla., Felix Fournier and wife Rita of Orr's Island, Gene Fournier and wife Dorothy of Orrington; a sister, Pamela Gould of Farmington; and sister-in-law Helen Fournier of Biddeford. She leaves behind scores of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Rene Fournier, in 1993.A memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. She spent her elementary years attending schools in Aldenville and her high school years in St. Damien Convent School in the Canadian providence of Quebec. She has spent many years in Pittsfield, Mass., Holyoke, Mass., Granby, Mass., Burlington, Vt., and for the past 24 years in Westfield, Mass. Prior to moving to Granby, Mass. she held various jobs highlighted by her singing at the Valley Arena in Holyoke, Mass. Her hobbies were cooking, baking, entertaining, fishing and spending time in her vegetable garden. Pauline leaves her husband of 64 years, John J. Murphy Sr.; her sons, John J. Murphy Jr. of Westfield, Mass., James F. Murphy of Holyoke, Mass., and Wayne A. Murphy of Georgia, Vt.; her daughter, Valenda Morrissette of Hopkinton; her brother, Lucien Belair of Guilford, Vt.; and her sisters, Rose Perrier of Enfield, Conn., Rita Brisson of Springfield, Mass., Patricia Davis of Austell, Ga., and Terry Craftchick of Bradenton, Fla. FIANDER, Mary (nee Bruce) The family regret to announce the passing of Mary Georgina Fiander on Sunday, October 2nd after a brief illness. She suffered little, and was under the excellent care of the hospice at May Court for the last 2 weeks. She is predeceased by her husband James William in 1990 who was a career RCAF Officer. Survived by her her son Karl, daughter-in-law Desi and grandchildren Michelle and Nathan. Mary was born in Arnprior in 1922 to Mabel Hunt and George Bruce. She is survived by her sister Frances Fraser. Predeceased by her brothers Fred, John, Bert and Bill and her sister Shirl Wagenblass. After 20 years of travel with Jim she lived most of her life in Ottawa South where she had many friends. A graveside service will be held at Capital Memorial Gardens, Prince of Wales Drive (Old Highway 16) on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the family home. HOLLIES, Gertrude Mary Suddenly at Rideau Place on Monday, October 3, 2005, aged 91 years. Dear wife of the late John (Jack) Herbert and loving mother of Michael (Janette). Born in Winnipeg, Gertrude received the Governor General's Medal at St. John's High School and was a valued member of varsity basketball, hockey and track teams. After earning a B.A. with Honours from the University of Manitoba she obtained her diploma in education and taught in Dauphin and Winnipeg. Gertrude married Jack in 1939 and 8 years later settled in Manor Park where she lived happily for 56 years. Her steadfast support of her husband's demanding law career was crowned by her nursing of him at home during his final illness. Her patience and her affection for her son was unwavering. Gertrude derived great pleasure from her friends at her book and french clubs and particularly fellow members of the Canadian Federation of University Women. An accomplished painter she enjoyed Robert Hyndman's art classes for many years and exhibited in Ottawa with her works now enjoyed in Canada and abroad. Her other activities included golfing, snowshoeing, piano playing and travelling. Her keen mind relished tough scrabble games and crossword puzzles. Gertrude worked as a visiting teacher for the Ottawa School Board and attended St. Columba Anglican Church. Her spirit, compassion and integrity set a fine example. She will be missed. JOHNSTON, Judy-Ann (nee Johnson). Passed away after a courageous ten month battle with cancer on October 6, 2005. Judy-Ann was a devoted and loving wife to Keith Johnston. She is survived by her mother Evelyn and was predeceased by her father Albert Johnson in 1991. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Jason and daughter-in-law Shannon, her daughter Sabrina and son-in-law Todd, her daughter Amanda and son-in-law Gary and her daughter Morgan. Judy-Ann was a wonderful and doting grandmother to James, Gabrielle, Sasha, Gavin and Steven. She is also survived by her brother John and sister-in-law Diane as well as a niece Jessica and nephews Bruce and Lee and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Judy-Ann had many friends who were fortunate to have been touched by her passion for life, her great sense of humour and her genuine love for all. She will live on in all of our hearts forever. OBITUARY JOHN FREBORG TUCKER Passed away suddenly in Burnaby Hospital on October 1, 2005 aged sixty-seven years. Survived by his loving wife Carole of forty-two years, his dear sister Frances and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Montreal John and Carole moved to Burnaby in 1966 and after an enjoyable career with the Bank of Montreal he retired in 1993 to enjoy the leisure life of Motor Homing.
