WATERVILLE -- The Rev. Valmont J.R. Gilbert, 75, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, after a prolonged illness.He was born in Winslow on April 10, 1930, the son of Romeo J. and Marie Anna (Breton) Gilbert. He was educated in Notre Dame and St. Joseph Maronite Schools in Waterville and had attended Waterville High School for two years, and then attended St. Francis College High School in Biddeford for two years. He then attended St. Francis College in Biddeford, earning a degree in philosophy and then entered the Grand Seminary in Montreal, Canada, where he studied for the priesthood and attained degrees in philosophy and sacred theology. He was ordained on June 15, 1957, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, by the Most Rev. Daniel J. Feeney. Shortly after ordination, Father Gilbert was assigned as an assistant at Our Lady of Ransom in Mechanic Falls and St. Agatha in St. Agatha. Then he had assignments in later years at Holy Rosary in Caribou, St. Joseph's in Biddeford, St. Ignatius in Sanford, St. Agnes in Island Falls, St. Mary's in Presque Isle, St. Augustine's in Augusta, St. Denis in North Whitefield, St. Bridget's in North Vassalboro, Sts. Athanasius and John in Rumford, St. Bernard's in Rockland and St. James in Thomaston.Father Gilbert had also many appointments, several of which were chaplain of the Holy Rosary Circle, Daughters of Isabella No. 638 of Caribou; chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol in Caribou; member of the Diocesan Priest's Senate; state prior of the Columbian Squires; chaplain of the Abnaki Council No. 334 Knights of Columbus; member of the Board of Trustees, clergy benefit/pension plan, Diocesan Council of Priests; chairman and chaplain of the Diocesan Human Relations Service, Catholic Charities of Maine; vice forane of the North Kennebec Deanery; chaplain of the Waterville Council Knights of Columbus and Limerock Council Knights of Columbus of Rockland; faithful friar of the Major Sayward N. Hall Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Rockland; and served on the board of visitors, Maine Correctional Center in 1986. He also served on the Maine Committee on Aging. He was a director of the Bank of Maine, which was later Northstar. He was one of the founders of Cushnoc Bank in Augusta. He was a member of the Augusta and Rockland Rotary Clubs. During his priesthood, he visited the Middle East, Rome, Ireland, France and Washington, D.C.Father Gilbert is survived by his brother, Joseph "Fern" W. Gilbert and his wife, Lorraine, of Holiday, Fla. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Notre Dame Church, 112 Silver St. in Waterville, with evening prayer with clergy at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Most Rev. Richard J. Malone presiding at the service. MILTON —Adelard J. "Del" Gregoire, 81, of Vachon Drive in Milton, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at home, surrounded by his family.Born Oct. 10, 1923, and raised in Somersworth, a son of the late Camille and Melina (Lessard) Gregoire, he attended schools in Somersworth, including St. Martin's. He was a graduate of Coine Electrical School of Chicago and also Radar School in Tampa, Fla. He entered the Army in 1942 and served during World War II in the European Theater. In 1946, he married Irene (Duchano) of Sanbornville at St. Anthony's Church in Sanbornville. They resided in Milton for more than 50 years, where he was a member of the American Legion Post 61. He was affiliated with Graniteers Drum and Bugle Corps of Rochester, traveling to President Kennedy's Inaugural Parade, the New York World Fair and Montreal Expo, they also traveled around New England to parades and field competitions.He worked for Prime Tanning Co., Duchano's Construction and before retiring, he was a bartender for Russo's Lounge and then Cardinal's Restaurant and Lounge.He and his wife, Irene, enjoyed traveling to many interesting places in this country and in Canada. He also enjoyed woodworking and cross country skiing.He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Irene (Duchano) Gregoire of Milton and their five children, Ronald Gregoire and partner, Bryan, of San Francisco, Calif., Gerard and wife, Gloria Gregoire, of Virginia Beach, Va., Jeanne and husband, Alan Gallant, of Derry, Susanne Gregoire of Milton and Clare Gregoire of Farmington; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Albertine Lajoie of Berwick, Maine and Blanche Gervais of Rochester; three brothers, Noel and wife, Irene Gregoire, of Somersworth, Lionel and wife, Arlene Gregoire, of Barrington, and Leo Paul and wife, Connie Gregoire, of Somersworth; also many nieces and nephews; two grand-dogs, Inga and Lucina. He was predeceased by a grandson, Tony Gregoire; and two brothers, Philippe and Raymond Gregoire.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church on Meadow Street, Route 109, in Sanbornville, N.H., with Fr. Edmund A. Babicz, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery (St. Anthony's) on Cemetery Road in Sanbornville. GREEN, OULTON EDGAR Oulton Edgar Green of Summerfield, NB passed away at St. Joseph - Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth-Andover on September 25, 2005. He was 72. Born in Knoxford, he was a son of the late Lee Franklin and Hazel Toms (Longstaff) of Strathray, ON. With the exception of his birth in Knoxford, Oulton spent his entire life on the family farm, living in the home he helped his father build in 1947. Oulton attended Summerfield School. In the winter of 1951, he drove the local "school bus" - a converted Fargo half-ton truck outfitted with a wooden van on the back. A lifelong farmer, Oulton was a Foreman for McCain's Produce for over 25 years. A devoted family man, Oulton is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, the former Phyllis Iola Montgomery, Oakland; sons Dalton Edward Harrisgreen (Kim Harris), London, ON, Leonard Lee (Roselyn Whitney), Fredericton, Robert Oulton (Sherry McQuade), Summerfield, daughters Marlene Hazel Sipprell (Carl), Perth-Andover, and Vickie Grace Nicholson (Chris), Summerfield; brothers, Leslie (Dorothy (Dot) Forsythe), Strathroy, ON, R. Bernadette Crist -- Feb. 24, 1930 — Sept. 20, 2005 -- Bernadette "Bernie" Lavoie Crist, 75, of Sonora died Sept. 20 at her home.Mrs. Crist was a native of Fitchburg, Mass., and lived in Sonora 10 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, So-nora, and the Aronos Club.She is survived by her children, Craig Crist of Jamestown, and Cheryl Severson and Pam-ela Rivers, both of Sonora; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Toni Weedon August 30, 1913 - September 26, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Marie Antoinette Weedon, on September 26, 2005 at the age of 92. Toni was born at the family home in Cap Pelé, New Brunswick on August 30, 1913 to Patrick and Elize (Porelle) Landry. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and while stationed in London, England she married John (Jack) Weedon on February 19, 1944. Toni and Jack raised their family in Winnipeg. Left to cherish her memory are her children Theresa Yetcishen (Nick), Robert (Laurel), Douglas (Audrey), Nancy Weedon and Jacqueline Sonsie (Robert); grandchildren Allision, Laurie, Bonnie, John, James, Tracy, Leanne, Kerry, Tricia, Derek and Daniel; 6 great grandchildren; brothers Dismas and Joseph, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers Léandre, Napoleon, Dosithé and Julien and sisters Clara and Lina. Mom’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very proud of her Acadian heritage and instilled that pride in her children. She was a loving, caring and supportive person and throughout her life, her determination, strength and courage were an inspiration to her family. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff on T4, Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion. A private family service is to be held. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

Yvette M Carriere 90 of 10 Rhodes Ave. N. Smithfield, RI died Sunday in St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Leopold J. Carriere. Mrs Carriere was born in East Angus Canada, a daughter of the late Edmond and Josephine (Cote) Bonin. Mrs. Carriere was a clerk for the former Warwick Shoppers World. She was a member of the St. Joan and St. Joseph Sr. Citizena and the RSVP Chorale. Mrs Carriere is survived by five grandchildren, Juanita St. George of West Warwick, Lisa M. Smith of Woonsocket, Miguel Gonsalves, Jessica D. Sylvestre and Eric L. Gonsalves all of Burrillville, and nine great grandchildren. She was the morther of the late Jacqueline Gonsalves and sister of the late Jean Paul, Leon, and Ernest Bonin, Blanche Bois, Rose Pierre, and Annette Deragon. Albert R. "Bert" Cardinal, 99, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at home.Mass of Christian Burial: 1 p.m. Thursday at St. George Catholic Church. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Council #4709 and was involved with the Boy Scouts for approximately 20 years. BOITEUX, Linda E. - Of San Bruno, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2005, with her family by her side, after a short struggle with cancer. The only daughter of Carl Carino and the late Mary Carino, Linda was a loving wife and devoted mother who believed strongly in the importance of family. Friends and family remember her as a fun-loving Leo who was the life of the party, always ready with a joke or story. A talented artist, she loved dancing, singing and old movies and was actively involved in the Verdi Club of SF. Linda is survived by her husband of 39 years, Vincent; and by her children: Carl, Angelique and Andre; as well as her aunts and uncles: Angle, Ofee, Lily and Eli; and many cousins. WESTFIELD - Mary C. (Gryszkiewicz) Dudas - Allard, 83, of Westfield, died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at home. She was born on April 19, 1922 in Westfield to the late Bronislaw and Frances (Kwiatkowski) Gryszkiewicz and has been a lifelong resident of Westfield. Mary was a 1940 graduate of Westfield High School. She worked at the former Anderson's, White's Quaint Shop, The Donut Shop and Liberty Bakery. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church and was a member of the choir. Mary crocheted afghans for the veterans at the Holyoke Soldiers Home and was an avid Bingo player. Mary loved to take care of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary's husband Norm Allard predeceased her in 1987. She leaves her son John A. Dudas of Westfield; three daughters, Theresa E. Degray, Marianne C. Hannum and Melanie J. Uras all of Westfield, two sisters, Helen Kotarski of Westfield and Jane Wendell and her husband Thaddeus of West Simsbury, CT, and a sister-in-law Ann Gryszkiewicz of Westfield. Mary also leaves five grandchildren locally and two in the service, one of which served in Iraq and sixteen great-grandchildren. The funeral services for Mary will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am in Holy Trinity Church. Gagnon, 92, of Milford, N.H., died Sept. 24, 2005, at Harborside Healthcare Center-Crestwood in Milford.She was born in Milford, Mass., on July 14, 1913, a daughter of the late Antonio and Palmina (Ferrucci) Guerino.She was a graduate of Milford (Mass.) He served in the US Navy and spent many years in Japan. He spoke fluent Japanese. He moved to Cape Coral 8 years ago.Larry will be missed by all. He also leaves 3 sisters: Lauretta Larochelle of Southbridge, Gertrude Dupuis of Southbridge and Doris McGeary of Webster, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Rachel Lesniewski of Southbridge who died in May 2005. Mr. Larochelle was born and raised in Southbridge, son of Jean B. and Agnes (Martin) Larochelle and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of Notre Dame Church and served in the US Army during WWII. He retired from the American Optical Company. The Very Rev. Monsignor J. Douglas Courville, JCL, pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral service. Survivors include her only child and son-in-law, Margaret Wagner Carter Morris and Steve Morris of Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Stephanie C. A native of Darrow and a resident of Lafayette since 1951, Mrs. Langlinais was a member of the St. Jules Catholic community. A devout Catholic, she was active until the last week of her life. Mrs. Langlinais lived a wonderful, full life. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School in Baton Rouge in 1933. Mrs. Langlinais first worked as a registered nurse at Our Lady of the Lake, and she then went on to finish her career at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette. A rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service. The family would like to thank Dr. John Bernard, Dr. Joseph Brierre, Dr. Daniel Carroll, Dr. Michael Alexander, Dr. John Mickey and Dr. Jeff Budden, all of whom helped her to live independently and treated this remarkable woman with respect and compassion. BRABANT Jacqueline Dianne The family of Jacqueline Diane Brabant (nee Decoste), with great sadness, must inform her many friends and relatives that on Sunday, September 25th, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario, Jackie passed away. She was 73 years young. Remaining to cherish her memory are her four daughters; Francine and her husband Mike Tennant of Toronto, Carole Lewis of Brampton, Andree Decoste of Brampton, Helene and her husband Fred Salazar of Barrie. Her seven grandchildren, Jessica Ridgwell, Jason Salazar, Christopher Salazar, Sarah Tennant, Andrew Salazar, Madison Evoy, and David Decoste will forever remember their loving Mama. To her two great-granddaughters Kyra and Jada Ridgwell, she was also Mama. Sadly she has left behind her two surviving brothers, Alcide and Rene Decoste of Montreal. Jackie was born in Glengarry, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Raoul and Maxima Decoste. The youngest of 11 children, she grew up surrounded by seven brothers, two sisters, and lots of love. She went on to have five children of her own, which she raised in Toronto. Her only son, Michel Brabant, predeceased her in 1972. She's probably with him right now. She loved to travel with her partner of 18 years Henry Beifuss, who predeceased her in 1988. Jackie moved to Barrie in 1996, she belonged to the Catholic Women's League at St. Mary's Church, and was a volunteer at Royal Victoria Hospital. She was quite crafty at paper tolling, and loved her computer. The family wish to thank Dr. McConvey who went above and beyond his duties in the care and treatment of our mother. The staff of 3NB, with a special thank you to Lindsay, Glenda, and Marcia - you know what you did, and we thank you! Mom, we know you are happier where you are surrounded by all of your loving family, but we are sure going to miss you. Sibyl C. Bouchard SWAN QUARTER -- Sibyl Berniece Carawan Bouchard was born to Robert Marcus and Deb Jarvis Carawan Feb. 18, 1920, at the home of her aunt, Ora Spencer in Swan Quarter. After a brief battle with liver cancer, Sibyl died Sept. 26, 2005, at home on Tiny Oak Road, now Quarter Road. She leaves behind two daughters, Georgine Blanche Bouchard Armstrong and husband Dennis Armstrong and their children and grandkids, Beverly Louise Armstrong Smith and husband James David Smith and their children, Perry and Leah of Suffolk, Edward Scott Armstrong and wife Mary Lee Armstrong and their son, Jake of Frisco, Texas, Brian Keith Armstrong and wife Jennifer Tiernery Armstrong and their children, Blake and Jason of Charlottesville, Va.; her daughter, Jane Paige Bouchard Hodges and husband Timmie Hodges and their son, Bruce Lee Hodges, all of Buzzards Roost in Swan Quarter; a sister-in-law, Mary Carawan and son Robert Evans Carawan Jr. and wife Louise and their son, Benjamin Marcus Carawan of Portsmouth, R.I.; a sister, Ella Rosetta Carawan Davis and son, Harry Leroy Davis III and fiancee Theresa and his children, Harry Leroy Davis IV (Rolley) and Cameron Lane and daughter, Janice Lynne Davis Logan and her husband Phillip Logan and their children, Benjamin Davis Logan and Austin Carter Logan, all of Virginia Beach. Along with our Lord Jesus Christ, those to welcome Sibyl into her new home will be her parents, Robert Marcus and Deb Jarvis Carawan, her sister, Ella Kathryn Carawan and her brother, Robert Evans Carawan Sr. After graduation from Swan Quarter High School in 1938, she worked as Watts Hospital. Four months later, she returned home to work on the WPA program in Engelhard. She continued with her nursing in the spring of 1939 at the mental hospital in Williamsburg, Va. She left after one year and went to Carolina General Hospital School of Nursing for two years and spent a year at the Medical College of Virginia at Richmond. She received her R.N. degree in 1944. She went to work at Henderson General Hospital in Henderson. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1945 and her training took her to Memphis, Tenn., Fort Rucker, Ala., Fort Jackson, S.C., Foster General Hospital in Jackson, Miss., and ended at Fort Benning, Ga. She attained the rank of 1st lieutenant before being honorably discharged. Sibyl returned to Swan Quarter to work as the public health nurse with the county. She retired after 30 years with the Hyde County Health Dept. She served as an elder at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Swan Quarter, and was a member of Post 0211 of the American Legion. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Candace Worth officiating. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to Calvary Presbyterian Church, c/o Monna Lou Hopkins, 5909 Quarter Road, Swan Quarter, NC 27885.
