Couture, Arthur , of Hearst - Date of Death: September 11th, 2005 - The funeral service for Hearst resident Arthur Couture, 85, was held Sept. 14, 2005. He died suddenly at home, Sept. 11. Born Feb. 16, 1920 in Beaulac, Québec, he came to the area around 1937. A logging contractor until 1985, he was a member of the Chevaliers de Colomb Hearst Knights of Columbus and Club soleil des aîné-e-s seniors centre. Predeceased by most of his relatives, he leaves his wife Aldéa (née Provençal) Couture of Hearst, daughters Gisèle (Ted Vanderydt) Couture Veilleux of Ottawa, Lucille (Maurice) Jacques, and Louisette (Réjean) Lacroix, all of Hearst, and sons Roland (Laurene) of Timmins, and Robert (Marie-Rose), Armand (Lauraine) and Réjean (Guilaine) Couture, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Soeur Olivette Couture of Montreal and Monique Couture of New Hampshire, brothers Hervé (Jacqueline) of Hearst, and Jean-Marc (Gisèle) Couture of Timmins, 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Rev. Gérald Chalifoux directed the service at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral. Interment followed at Monsignor Pierre Grenier Cemetery. Commemorative donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation.

She was a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Lisa is survived by her mother, Una Moquin of Cody, Wyoming; a daughter, Alyssa M. Goodine of Sarasota, FL; a brother, Chip Barsalou of Florence, MA and three sisters Denise B. Jackson of Portsmouth, NH, Lynette Perrino of Salem, NH and Deanne Rohan of South Hadley. Ron Schmidt Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully, on Saturday, September 24, 2005, Ron Schmidt, age 91 passed away at the Misericordia Health Centre. Ron is survived by children, Nancy and Tom; daughter-in-law Maureen; grandchildren, Phillip, Colin and Rhea; great-grandchild, Ronin and Ron's sister, Evelyn Harper. He was predeceased by his wife Eva in 2004. Ron was a devoted father and husband. He was a member of the War Time Pilots and Observers Association, an avid curler, golfer and gardener. An accomplished musician who could not read a note of music, Ron could play any song after hearing it once. Ron served as a pilot, flying Sunderland Flying Boats in the Second World War, where he was stationed in England and throughout Africa. He had a long career as an Agronomist, retiring from the Manitoba Department of Agriculture. After retirement he and Eva enjoyed travelling to many locations around the world. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment and reception will follow. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Visitation will resume Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. until service time at St. Nicholas Church.A native of Iberia Parish and resident of Lydia, Mr. Jolet died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at his daughter's residence in Lafayette.Mr. Jolet was retired from the United States Postal Service with almost 40 years of service. He served as Postmaster in both Weeks Island and Lydia. After his retirement, he worked briefly with the Lydia Water Corp. He was a proud veteran of the Army having served his country during World War II. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 26 in Jeanerette, Knights of Columbus Council 10902 in Lydia, and a parishioner of St. Nicholas Church where he served as a lecter and assisted Fr. Many with the Healing Masses. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Matilde Delcambre Jolet of Lydia; a son, Ray Jolet and wife Claire Comeaux Jolet of Lydia; a daughter, Juliana Jolet Zimmerman and husband Keith of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Eric and Elliot Jolet, Ashley Jolet Nguyen and husband Dung, Andrea and Page Jolet, Tara Norris, Paul Zimmerman and Tiffany Z. Joseph "Jerry" Richard Tappenden August 18, 1914 - September 23, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) TAPPENDEN, Joseph Richard "Jerry" - 91, Lake Echo, passed away September 23, 2005, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Winnipeg, Man., he was a son of the late John and Nellie (Goodyer) Tappenden. Jerry joined the Navy in 1940 and was discharged in 1946. He held various government jobs, retiring from the Canadian Coast Guard at the age of 65. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pictou for over 50 years. Jerry is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris; daughter, Marlene Hatt; sister, Joan Wordon, Colburg, Ont.; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Elsie and Norah. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, and reception to follow. LEOMINSTER -- Paul L. Thibodeau III, 25, of 22 Naples St., died Friday, Sept. 23, in St. Vincent Medical Center, Worcester, after being stricken ill on Thursday, Sept. 22. McFARLANE, LLOYD H. - The death of Lloyd Harold McFarlane of Plumweseep, NB occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on September 25, 2005 at the age of 74. Born in Millbrook, NB a son of the late Robert and Effie (Anderson) McFarlane and step-mother Mary (Hunter) McFarlane. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church, the Korean Veteran's Association and Sussex Branch #20 Royal Canadian Legion. Lloyd spent 23 and a half years with the Canadian Armed Forces. He joined in Sussex with the Carleton York Regiment then went to Korea for ten months and became a member of the Canadian Guards and then to Princess Louise's 8th Hussars for the remainder of his career, having spent two tours in Germany and six months in Egypt. One of Lloyd's favorite pastimes was to watch and feed the birds. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 and a half years, Eileen (Murray) McFarlane, children Elaine MacDougall (James) Oxford, NS, Debera Branscombe (Ivan) Hillsborough, son Jamie McFarlane at home, daughter-in-law Mary McFarlane, Sussex, grandchildren Angel, Joe, Greg, Becky, Cassie, Ryan, Chelsea, Megan, Nathan, Sandy and Toni, great grandchildren Shelby, Damien and Carlie, sisters Phyllis Proctor, Plumweseep and Anne Thorne (Robert), Moncton, brothers Nelson (Darlene) McFarlane, Plumweseep and Edward (Ruby) McFarlane, Waterford, several nieces and nephews and his pals Quincy and Misha. PITTSFIELD -- Norman Arthur Bedard, 76, of 44 Bernard Ave. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center. He had been a resident of Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for seven months. Born in North Adams on Aug. 10, 1929, son of Arthur and Sidonie Courtemanche Bedard, he attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Mr. Bedard was employed by GE as a crane operator, retiring in 1989 after 42 years of service. He also had worked in its shipping department. For many years, he also was a stocker at the former Adams Super Markets. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and of IUE Local 255. He collected coins and stamps, enjoyed RV camping and walking, and was a fan of Johnny Cash. He and his wife, the former Anna S. Stavaski, were married May 28, 1949, at St. Mary's Church in Cheshire. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Arthur Norman Bedard of Pittsfield; three daughters, Brenda B. Meacham and Bonny Bedard, both of Pittsfield, and Lynn M. Bailey of Cedar Park, Texas; a sister, Phyllis Sedgwick of Dalton, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Norman A. FALL RIVER -- Lea R. (Robillard) Belanger, 81, of Center Street, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Highlander Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the former wife of Gerard Turcotte of Fall River, and also the former wife of the late Leo Belanger. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Ulric "Dick" Robillard and Delia (Sarois) Robillard. She lived in Fall River and Somerset most of her life. She also lived in Plano, Texas, for 25 years then returned to Fall River. While living in Texas, Mrs. Belanger participated in the Senior Olympics. She was a seamstress for Anderson Little Co. for more than 25 years. Mrs. Belanger enjoyed music and especially liked playing the organ. Survivors include a daughter, Debra (Turcotte) Sherwood and her husband, David of Somerset. She was a sister of the late Alice Robillard. Her funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Boule Funeral Home, 615 Broadway.

LYONS, HENRY BUD The death of Henry Bud Lyons of Fredericton, NB husband of Harriet (Hiltz) Lyons occurred on September 23, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Henry retired from the Forest Hill Rehabilitation Center after 23 years of service. Henry also was a veteran of WWII and belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 15. He loved his church and also enjoyed gardening. In addition to his wife Henry is survived by one son Robert (Elaine) Lyons of Fredericton, NB; one daughter Sharon Lyons of Fredericton, NB; one grandson Greg Lyons; a family friend Mariela Trail and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #15 are asked to assemble at York Funeral Home at 7 pm for a Tribute Service. McNAIR, ARTHUR CLARKE - At Marianhill Nursing Home, Pembroke on Thursday, September 22, 2005 in his 89th year. Arthur McNair of Pembroke, dearly loved husband of Kathryn (Kay) McNair (nee McIntyre). Dear father of Ernest McNair (Paula), Kanata. Grandpa to Clarke McNair (Sarah), Barrhaven; Amber McNair, Toronto; and great grandfather to Connor and Emma. Son of the late Ernest and Gertrude McNair (nee Clarke). Brother of Kenneth McNair, Oakville; Ann McNair, Fredericton, NB; and Eleanor Brown (Roy), Etobicoke. Predeceased by sister Penelope McNair, and brothers Evan and Nathaniel McNair. Will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Baxter and staff of the second floor at Marianhill for their excellent care and compassion over the past two and a half months. Art began employment with Canada Veneers Ltd, a K.C. Irving Co, in 1936, retiring after a distinguished career in 1988. He worked in the Saint John, NB plant, becoming Superintendent of Operations when the company became the world's largest supplier of aircraft veneers during WWII. When the business moved to Pembroke, ON in 1950, he continued in this capacity. Later, Art became CEO and Vice-President of Canada Veneers Ltd. and its two associated companies, Hogan Lake Timber and Canada Veneers Belleterre Quebec Ltd. Serving a number of years as Canadian director of the (American) Hardwood Plywood Manufacturers Association, Art was proud to be the first Canadian inducted as a lifetime member in 1992. In addition, he was a long time director of the Ontario Forest Association and a member of the Canadian Standard Association. Active in the community, Art served on the Civic Hospital Board and was the first commissioner appointed to Pembroke Hydro. An avid golfer, and lifetime member of the Canadian Seniors Golf Association, Art was a long time member of the Pembroke Golf Club and particularly loved playing in the annual Gordon Cup competition participating on the Pembroke team for 25 years. Born in Saskatoon, SK he was the son of the late Albert and Alice (Bailey) Sparkes. Clifford was a retired mechanic. Clifford was survived by one son William (Elizabeth) Corfield of Saint John, NB; two grandchildren; one half brother Harold (Shirley) Sparkes of SK; one sister-in-law Jean (Eric) Sweatman of SK and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Clifford was predeceased by one brother Albert and one half brother Norman Sparkes. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request of the family. BEATTEAY, JOSEPH S. - The death of Joseph S. Beatteay of Stephenson Tower Drive, Saint John North, occurred unexpectedly on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Joseph was born in Saint John, son of the late George C. and Hazel (MacDonald) Beatteay, and had been a life-long resident of this area. He is survived by four brothers: Jack of Toronto, Peter of Iowa, Robert of Saint John, and Gerald of London, ON; three sisters: Daisy Craft of ON, Dot (Doris) Tanner of Texas, USA., and Catherine Webb of BC; several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers George, Allen, James and William, and sisters Nina McCaustlin, Ann Peters and Eva Crosby. At the request of the family there will be no visiting. A memorial service will be celebrated from Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. EBBETT, NEIL BULYEA - The death of Neil Bulyea Ebbett, husband of Evelyn (Armstrong) Ebbett of Saint John, occurred on September 24, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Gagetown on May 11, 1918, he was the son of the late Frederick C. and the late Dottie (Bulyea) Ebbett. He served overseas during World War II with the Signal Corp. Neil had been employed by Irving Oil Limited and retired in 1983 from the Department of Highways, Province of New Brunswick. Neil and Evelyn enjoyed many holidays in Florida and traveled widely on European and Southern Cruises. He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn of 52 years, brothers-in-law Russell Armstrong and his wife Anne, Thomas Armstrong and his wife Helen, Kenneth Armstrong and his wife Lillian, sisters-in-law Eileen Ebbett, Jean Webb, Verna Mills and her husband Don, Margaret Plested and her husband Patrick, Leah Armstrong and several nieces and nephews. His brothers Charles, Norman and Gordon and his sister Freda Dykeman predeceased him. At Neil's request there will be no visiting or funeral service. Following cremation at Brenans Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road (634-7425), the interment will take place on September 29, 2005, at 1:00 pm, at the Upper Hampstead Cemetery. DAVENPORT, STERLING - The death of Sterling Davenport of Arthurette and formerly of Perth-Andover occurred on September 24, 2005 at the Mountain View Care Home in Arthurette at the age of 82. Born in California Settlement he was the son of the late Thomas and Lydia (Cray) Davenport. He is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, wife Rose Guimond, sisters Bernice (Bunny) and Annie, brothers Stan, Roy, Lewis, Loomis and Ray. Resting at White's Funeral Home with visiting hours on Monday September 26th from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 27th at 3 pm from White's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Ferrell officiating. Interment in the Larlee Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
