Gary Julius Hanson September 05, 1933 - May 22, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home On May 22, 2005 Gary Hanson of Edmonton died peacefully after a brief struggle with cancer. Devoted husband of 50 years to Shirley; beloved father of Gary (Carmen Wilkinson), Shelley (Rob Galbraith) and Steven (Sarah Kendrick) and adored grandfather of Alexandra, Garrett and Lauren Hanson, Danielle Galbraith and Brenna Hanson. Predeceased by his parents, Clarence (1994) and Gertrude Hanson (1998). Born in Spalding, Saskatchewan, Dad joined the Canadian Air Force as a young man. His military career took the family to Lahr, and Baden Baden, Germany, Cold Lake, Winnipeg and finally to Edmonton. His military career ended in 1977 after 25 years. He worked in the financial field with the Alberta Cancer board until his retirement in 1989. An avid and accomplished curler, Dad won many curling championships in Europe and was well known in the local curling community. After retiring Dad and Mom spent the winter months in Mesa, AZ, where Dad pursued his passion for golf. But Dad's greatest love was for his family and we will miss him dearly. The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Smylie of the Cross Cancer Institute and the staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital, Palliative Care, Unit 43. Dumont Hospital, Moncton on Friday, May 20, 2005. Born in St John's Nfld, on November 29, 1932, he was the son of the late James and Lillian (Ash) Crummey. Gordon Francis Pierre April 13, 1942 - May 21, 2005 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Francis on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Gordon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away at the tender age of 63 years. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, James (Jim) and Madeline, paternal grandfather, Joseph (Ogima), paternal grandmother, Mary and maternal grandmother, Philomene Napecash and one sister, Helen and Delores (wife). Gordon will be remembered by son, Brian and Teresa (wife), son Douglas, daughter Lorna, Rita (wife), son Dennis (Rocky), daughter Delma Rose Pierre, Sheryl (wife), son James and Julie (daughter-in-law), with four grandchildren and daughter Kimberly Ann. Gordon was born on April 13, 1942 at Roseau River Indian Reserve and resided in Winnipeg in his later years where he enjoyed going to bingo with family and meeting his bingo “family” there. LANCASTER - Jon Joseph Labrecque, 63, died May 19, 2005, in Boynton Beach, Fla. after a massive stroke.Mr. Lebrecque was born in Milan, N.H., on November 7, 1941, the son of Joseph J. and Roma M. (Potter) Labrecque.He was raised in Milan, attended schools there and was a 1959 graduate of Berlin High School. On September 28, 1963 he married Bonnie Oleson and later moved to Lancaster. He has been a longtime resident of Lancaster and has spent the last two winters in Briny Breezes, Fla. Jon was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Lancaster Fire Department and past member of the Lancaster JayCees and honorary lifetime member of the Snowdrifters, working on theoriginal Lancaster Grand Prix. As a snowbird in Briny Breezes, Fla., Jon was a member of the Briny Breezes Chislers, Cabaret & Briney Cooks club. There he participated in many charitable activities including the Briny Cooks and Charity Bizzar.Jon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bonnie O. Labrecque; two daughters, Beth Ann and husband Philip Morris of Lancaster and Sandra Morris of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Britini, Jon, Allie, Mike, Paula, Tom and Philie; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister Sandra and her husband Richard Gagne of Berlin; four nephews and their families; a sister-in-law Mary Steudle of Jefferson, and her family; and by the son he never had, Michael Labounty of Lancaster. Dr. Gordon Algie SAULT STE MARIE, ON - A Chief of Radiology at the former Plummer Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste Marie has died, Dr. Gordon Haig Algie died early Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Sault Area Hospital following a brief illness. He was born June 18, 1924 in Moncton, New Brunswick, the oldest of four children of the late Robert Laird Algie and his wife, the late Josephine Jean Algie (nee Gordon). Dr. Algie was educated at Moncton High School and at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. He was a graduate in medicine in 1949 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following internship in Saint John, New Brunswick he operated a general practice in medicine in Bathurst, New Brunswick. He completed specialty training in radiology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec and moved to Sault Ste Marie in 1954. Dr. Algie became Chief of Radiology at the former Plummer Memorial Hospital, now part of the Sault Area Hospital, and worked there continuously until his retirement in 1987. He also consulted in radiology in hospitals along the Lake Superior and Northern Lake Huron shores at Wawa, Blind River and Elliot Lake. Following his retirement from the Plummer staff, Dr. Algie continued work as a consultant in radiology at The Medical Centre Clinic in Sault Ste Marie. He was active in the Algoma Medical Society, including a term as president. He was president of the board of the Family YMCA when it decided to build its existing facilities on McNabb Street. Dr. Algie was also a former medical officer with the 49th Regiment Military Reserve Unit in Sault Ste Marie. He was predeceased by both of his parents; by his brother, Robert Bruce Algie of Fort Frances, Ontario and his sister, Margaret Jean Mendelson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his brother, Wallace Lloyd Algie and his wife, Shirley, of Belleville, Ontario. Dr. Algie is also survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Anne Algie (nee MacQuarrie); their four children and families as follows, Jim and Maggie Algie and their daughter, Jessica, of Owen Sound, Ontario; Heather and John Bailey and their children, Scott, Anne and Emily, of Montreal; Dr. Robert and Janet Algie and their children, James and Heather, of Fort Frances; William and Barbara Algie and their children, Lauren and Gena Van Blunk of Philadelphia. JANISSE, Shirley March 3,1936-May 24,2004 Letter to Heaven I took a stroll the other day and wondered what I wanted to say. A million thoughts, a million memories. And couldn't believe it was already a year. It was so hard watching you die, knowing there was nothing we could do or say. But you were as strong through your dying days as you were in life. Staying strong, so no tears would be shed. I guess that's the reason we always looked up to you as being our hero. We are so grateful for being with you for those final days. EDGAR, DAVID JOHN - It is with sadness we announce the death of David John Edgar, May 22, 2005, of Crafts Cove Road, Belyea's Cove, Wickham, NB. David was born in Doncaster, England, September 10, 1944, the son of the late Frederick and Linda Edgar. Upon David's arrival in Canada he worked with Atomic Energy Canada Limited, in research, at Chalk River, ON. He later enjoyed a career for a time with Ontario Hydro before joining NB Power as a consultant dealing with Nuclear Safety and most recently worked with Atlantic Nuclear Services in Fredericton, NB. Enjoying partial retirement and his beloved "Farm", David worked hard to create their "Eden" and loved their special place in the "Cove". David could not believe his luck in finding himself in such a wonderful community and the special people there that have been such a great support during his illness. David was quite simply an incredibly fine man. We know we are not alone in saying, "We miss you David". David is survived by his partner of 20 years, Linda Ann Riley and their daughter Elizabeth Ann Edgar. He is also survived by his daughter Victoria Edgar, ON, his son Graham Edgar, ON, and stepchildren: Angela (Shawn) Quinn, Orlando, FL, April Riley, Erin Riley and Meghan Riley, one brother Keith Edgar (June) of Doncaster, England, five grandchildren: Jordan Edgar, Tyler Edgar, Samantha Edgar, Maxwell Edgar and Riley Allaby, several special nieces: Lorraine (Darren ) Barrows, Joanne (Anuj) Joshi and special nephew: Paul Edgar (Heather), great nieces Beth and Hannah and great nephews Ross and Ben, all of England. He was predeceased by his parents: Fred and Linda Edgar. Last, but certainly not least, David will be missed by his beloved dogs: George, Rose and Isabella. DOUGLAS EMERSON SHUTE Doug Shute, born July 2, 1938, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2005. Doug was born in La Vallee, Ont. to Mary (Kosonic) and Clifford Shute, and then raised in Rainy River, Ont. until moving to Fort Frances, Ont. with his mother and step-father, Bill Tremblay, in 1954. Doug had a particular fondness for Rainy River and spoke of it often. Doug and his brother, Gord, and sister, Joan, were extremely close. Doug and Gord rarely were seen without each other. In their younger days, they meticulously mowed lawns for the neighbours and spent hours playing catch with their baseball gloves and ball. Hands down, Doug was the New York Yankees’ number-one fan. He had an incredible memory for baseball teams, players, and scores, and, for him, the Yankees ruled. His wardrobe demonstrated his love of the team; his room was full of their memorabilia. One of his pastimes was collecting baseball cards, which he did from an early age. Several cards included Mickey Mantle, who Doug considered the best player of all time. Doug also loved music. He would spend hours listening to Bill Haley, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, or big band songs. He had a huge collection and, as his hearing went, the music got louder! Doug was a natural-born leader. Although people viewed him as challenged, he taught us that challenges can be overcome. He often felt his disability was imposed by others and he conquered the stereotype on a regular basis. His leadership allowed Doug and his two siblings to live a full, independent life. Doug was a stubborn Shute. He was brutally honest but always very, very respectful. He had such a strong sense of family—family meant more than the world to him. He made us all realize how much we need each other. When Doug moved to Rainycrest in 1997, his family grew. Several of the staff and residents there were adopted by Doug as family, and he cared for them deeply. He never forgot their birthdays or special occasions. Doug is survived by his brothers, Gord and Rod Shute; sister, Joan Shute; and sister and brother-in-law, Donna (Tremblay) and Pat Dittaro and their children, Jade and Cody. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Marcia Shute and her children, Mike (Shelley) Shute and children, Michelle (Ryan) and Jessica, and Larry (Christine) Shute and children, Lauren and Christopher; his special friend, Buzz Wickstrom; and his friends at Rainycrest. Doug was deeply affected by the loss of his father, Clifford. He spoke of his death as “the saddest day of my life.” He also was predeceased by his mother, Mary Tremblay; brother, Harvey Shute; step-father, Bill Tremblay; nephew, Patrick Shute; and great-niece, Katie Shute. Doug made us realize you don’t need much to be happy and you should always enjoy the simple things in life—walks, the beauty of holly-hocks, a leisurely afternoon cheering for your favourite baseball team, a good meat and cheese sandwich, and some good old-fashioned rock and roll music. He taught us more than we ever taught him, and we will miss him more than we can even imagine. Doug’s memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Marietta Marshall officiating. As his Dad died at the early age of 46 from a stroke, Doug requested that donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Honourary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews, Judy Johnstone, Kim Matheson, Leslie Bell, Lucy Fults, and Buzz Wickstrom. Thank you for your kindness and generosity toward Doug. May you now have the best seat in Yankee Stadium. See you later, chum.

Robert Dupont, 37, of Hilton Drive died May 23, 2005 at his home in Newmarket. Bob was born in Cambridge, MA, on 20 Aug 1967. He graduated from Billerica Memorial High School in 1985. He attended UMass-Lowell were he received a BS in Electrical Engineering. While there, he met his loving wife of 13 years, Deb. Bob spent his professional career in marketing and sales of industrial fire alarm systems for both Wells Fargo and System Sensor, beginning a lifetime of service to his fellow man through Fire Prevention, Detection, and Fighting. Bob and Deb were blessed with two beautiful sons, and his tremendous presence in life will continue to shine through Joshua and Jacob. Bob Dupont, through 2 bouts of cancer, was a business success, a world traveler, a volunteer firefighter, a soccer and baseball coach, a community activist, a dear friend to hundreds, and an incredibly loving brother, son, father, and husband. He is the bravest man we have ever known. He will be sorely missed. Bob is survived by his mother, Peggy Hishan and Mike Hishan of Merrimack, NH; his father, Joseph and Maryanne Dupont, of Lakeland, FL; his brother, Stephen and Sandy Dupont, children Brittany and Jared; Joseph and Paula Bernstein, of Exeter, and three brothers-in-law and their spouses and children, and his brothers and sisters in the Newmarket Fire and Rescue Department. OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — John A. Boivin, 64, passed away on April 24, 2005, in Oklahoma City after a long five-year battle with cancer. He was born June 11, 1940, in Rusk County, the son of Henry and Helen (Olson) Boivin. He graduated from Glen Flora High School. John entered the Air Force after graduation. He spent 24 years in the service. He was a Vietnam vet. After service he worked at the Oklahoma City post office for 17 years. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mei, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1971; His brothers, Frank (Pearl) of Wilmington, Ill., and William (Bonnie) of Elk Mound; sister, Susan (Harold) Blum Mantino, Ill.; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.John was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents; one niece, Linda Blum; one nephew, Kevin Boivin. Funeral services were on April 28, 2005, in Oklahoma City, Okla., with military honors. A short service will be at Ingram cemetery later this month.

PELLETIER, SR.,RAY F., Motivational Speaker, of Miami Lakes, died unexpectedly on Saturday following minor inpatient surgery. He was predeceased by brother, William A. Pelletier. He is survived by his Daughter Kimberly Faith Clo of Nashville son, Ray Jr. of Miami, two beloved granddaughters, Kenya Grace Clo and Aslan Joy Clo; He is also survived by brothers, Philip L. Pelletier of North Andover, Massachusetts, Jere E. Pelletier of Temple, NH and Rev. Lee F. Pelletier of Fort Plain, NY. Also surviving him were Zoraida Ojeda of Miami and Joyce Baribeau-Pelletier of Brunswick, Maine, and a legion of family members and friends. Ray was an internationally recognized speaker who's client list included many fortune 500 companies, high school, professional and major college sports teams, his beloved US Air Force and many "mom and pop" operations. He was a long time board member of the National Speakers' Association. And in 1998, Ray was inducted into its' Hall of Fame. He was the author of several books, including the just published It's All About Service: Leading Your People to Care About Your Customers. Ray was also an accomplished magician, who's tricks were a delight to young and old alike. Ray was the founder of two companies, The Pelletier Group and January First, Inc. Ray, a former AF enlisted man, was especially proud of the positive impact that some of his company's recent projects had had on issues effecting morale within the USAF. Ray was a native of Lynn, Mass and a 1967 graduate of Lynn English High School. She was a communicant of St. Hyacinth Church and was very active in The Ladies of St. Anne, the Daughters of Isabella and the HolyName Society.Her husband, Gaston Fecteau died in October of 1989.She is survived by a son, Gilbert Fecteau of Westbrook; a daughter, Theresa Guevin of VirginiaBeach, Va.; a brother, Andrew Tondreau of Portland; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Visiting hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Hyacinth Church. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.

CASAGRANDE, Domenico Giovanni Domenico Giovanni Casagrande, also affectionately known as Nonno, was finally reunited with his beloved Anna on May 23, 2005. He passed away very peacefully with his two daughters by his side at The St. Joseph's Health Centre. He was born on July 27, 1915 in Col San Matrino, Treviso Italy. He was the youngest child of Nicodemo and Constanza Casagrande (predeceased), He was the youngest sibling to Virginia Smania, Geltrude Zilio, Benedetta Titton, Francesco and Luigi Casagrande (all predeceased). Domenico, as a child, was quite mischievous and enjoyed playing hookie from school, as well as playing tricks on others. He served in World War II and was a member of the Cavalieri de la Patria. He drove an ambulance and as a result was captured by the German Army to drive high official German soldiers in Yugoslavia. He somehow managed to flee and returned to his beloved Col San Martino hiding from the German army in the home of his beloved Anna. He married the love of his life, Anna (nee Vettoretti) on December 28, 1945 and they had their first child, Lucianna on August 28, 1946. Domenico left his native Italy traveling to Canada with his older brother Luigi. They docked at the famous Ellis Island in New York and traveled to Copper Cliff by train. They arrived on May 23, 1948 (in the middle of a snowstorm) and began working for Inco Ltd the very next day. He worked for various departments throughout the years and retired from the Transportation Department in 1978. Domenico worked very hard and was able to pay for his wife and daughter's passage from Italy. They joined their husband and father in March 1949. The young family began their life together in a new land and a second child, Judy, joined the family on May 12, 1952. The family continued to prosper and they enjoyed many wonderful years together. A lifetime of memories has been made and this will be the strength that will enable us to move on. Domenico was predeceased by his soul mate, Anna on March 30, 2004. He leaves behind two wonderful daughters, Lucy (husband Gilles Robillard predeceased on December 7, 1983) and Judy (husband Stefan Krasuki predeceased on April 17, 2001) and two very special and unique grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua. His two sisters-in-law Maria and Nori Casagrande, many loving nieces and nephews, also survive him. Although Domenico was viewed as a man of little words, one could know his thoughts through his facial expressions. In his younger days, he enjoyed his garden and making wine. He adored young children and always enjoyed being mischievous around them. He has had to endure many challenges throughout his life, such as the depression, the war, relocating to a new land and has had to suffer many medical difficulties throughout his life. Domenico was a fighter and faced these challenges on a continuous basis. The greatest tragedy and challenge for him was the loss of his beloved wife Anna. Well Nonno, she has called you home at last. We will miss you terribly but we understand that you needed to be together. Take care of each other and the ones you have left behind until we meet again.
