AGAWAM - Paul B. Meunier, 50, of 179 Franklin Street, in the Feeding Hills section, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 in a local nursing home. Born in Springfield, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam and attended Agawam High School. He worked for the Town of Agawam in building maintenance. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He leaves his wife, Susan P. (Borgatti) Meunier, a son, Michael "Mikey" Paul Meunier of Feeding Hills, two daughters, Melani Sue Pickett of Agawam, Marci Lee Meunier of Southwick, his mother, Muriel "Penny" (Baer) Meunier of Chesterfield, VA, a brother, Donald Meunier of Chesterfield, VA, two sisters, Patricia Humiston of Scottsdale, AZ, Deborah Meunier-Hernandez of Deltona, FL, and three grandchildren, Emma-Lee Sue Pickett, Amelia Jane Pickett and Marisa Annajolee Clayton. Paul was a great family man, a loving husband and a great father who will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10. The burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. LECH, Leonard "Lenny", Passed away unexpectedly at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on May 5th, 2005 in his 53rd year. He will be sadly missed by his loving children Leonard Jr., Brittney and Courtney, and by his friend Dolores (Gary). OBITUARY WILLIAM HARLAND 1912 - 2005 William Harland a man who always "Walked uprightly and with humility before God" passed away in the early morning hours on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Foothills Medical Centre, due to the complications of several chronic conditions. His beloved wife Margaret predeceased him on March 31, 2001. He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter Sandra (David) Wattling of Calgary, his son Sydney (Betty) of Burlington, Ontario and three grandchildren. Bill Wattling, Calgary, Alberta, Michael Harland, Burlington, Ontario and Betty-Ann Harland of Burlington, Ontario. Bill was born in Montreal, Quebec on September 18, 1912. He was employed as a Machinist with Canadian Pacific Railway at Angus Shops, Montreal for forty-two years retiring in 1973. After his retirement he and Margaret moved to western Canada to live with his daughter and family in the summer, and in Florida and California in the winter. Bill was a quiet, fair and honourable man with a great sense of humour, much wisdom and a determined will to live. For the past four years he fought and endured many chronic conditions that weakened him and eventually led him having to enter long-term care where he resided for the last year of his life. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff on unit Parkview, 3 south at Bethany Care Centre Calgary for the attention, compassionate excellent care and friendship given to Bill. Many thanks to Dr. Mark Joyce, Dr. Lauf and finally Dr. Sporina and staff of Unit 62, Foothills Medical Centre. A special thanks to "Virgo" who shares the same birth date and who always cared and let him know through the many cards of encouragement she sent him. At Bill's request there will be no funeral or memorial service in Calgary. A private garaveside service will be held at a future date in Terrebonne, Quebec. SANTUCCI, Vincenzo. 1916 - 2005. It is with much sorrow that our family announces the passing of an incredibly loving, caring, faith-filled and much respected man, who was a husband, father, grandfather (Nonno), great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Vincenzo was called to his eternal home on Tuesday May 4, with family and friends by his side, at the Charles Lemoyne Hospital in his ninetieth year. He is predeceased by his wife Stella D'Aprile, son Dominic, sisters Peppina and Dora and his brother, Fr. Peppino. Much saddened by his passing are his children: Louise MacKenzie (the late Douglas), Mary Hall (Richard), Peter (Dorothy), Joseph (Dale), Anthony (Lou), Frank, Christine Wright (Don), twenty grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, his sister Rosa and sister-in-law Irene D'Aprile. His passing will also touch the lives of many other family members and friends, both here in Canada, and his homeland, Italy. Bert enjoyed travelling during his retirement, visiting family and friends in Canada, U.S. and Europe. He made new friends wherever he went and exhibited a joy of living that was admired by all. Aubrey Boyd Cunningham Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully, after a brief illness, Aubrey Cunningham passed away at age 91 at Victoria Hospital on Friday, April 15, 2005. Aubrey was raised in Souris, MB, graduated from United College, taught in Miniota before and after his Air Force service during the Second World War. He worked for CAE in Winnipeg, then in the financial field until he finally retired. Aubrey and Dorothy Spalding were married from 1939 until her death in 1981. They had two daughters, Lynne Wilkins and Doreen (Harry) Dow, and son Ross (Debra) now of London, Ontario. Aubrey was the proud grandparent of Andrea Smotrycki, Neal (Barbara) Dow, Steven Dow and Kyle (Crystal) Dow, all of Winnipeg and Alex Cunningham of London. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; Cody and Charlie; Donovan; Matthew and Montana; and Katherine. He was predeceased by his four siblings Meriel, Dorothy, Winston and Margaret. Aubrey was an active member of McClure United Church (Greenwood United) for over 40 years. We wish to thank Dr. Penner and the staff at Victoria Hospital for their attentive care. Mabel Ellen Danysk (née Sauve) April 12, 1918 - April 17, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Leyden's Funeral Home (Calgary) Mabel Danysk, beloved mother of Louise, Cecilia, Gene and Emile, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the Carewest Sarcee Nursing Home at the age of 87. Mabel was predeceased by her husband Pete in 1983 and her grandsons, Allan in 1996 and David in 2001. Besides her sons and daughters and their spouses, Dennis, Bob, Gail and Jeannine, Mabel will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Brann, Conor, Jennifer, Vinceen, Michael, Geoff, Pierie and Deborah; and her great-grandchildren: Austin, Lauren, Carson, Hayden, Brittany, Cassandra and Katherine. Mabel was born in Cereal, Alberta in 1918, the third child of a large French-Canadian family. She married Pete in 1940 and in 1952 they moved their young family to Calgary. In those early years, Mabel was active in and served as president of the CWL and later served as sacristan for St. James Catholic Church where she made many friends. Even in her seventies, Mabel enjoyed aquasize classes and swimming with her grandchildren at Glenmore Pool, and until her stroke in 2000, she was commonly seen on the streets of her neighbourhood as she walked miles every week, often delivering her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls to family and friends. An avid knitter, she donated mittens and toques to the underprivileged. Family and friends are invited to Prayers at 8:00 p.m. for Mabel on Tuesday, April 19, following 7:00 p.m. mass at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20 St. SW). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church the following day, Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Michael Storey, celebrant. Marshall Dzurko October 30, 1934 - April 14, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home DZURKO, Marshall October 30, 1934-April 14, 2005 On April 14, 2005 Marshall Dzurko of Calgary passed away suddenly at Rockyview Hospital. Marshall was born in Willingdon, Alberta where he grew up, received his education and then went on to attend the University of Alberta. Upon receiving his teaching certificate at the age of 19, his first position as an elementary teacher was in Oyen, Alberta. Through many years of summer school Marshall attained his B.Ed degree and eventually a Masters degree. His concern for the state of education, his enthusiasm, his diligence and his perseverance earned him the position of Superintendent of Schools for the Acadia School Division. In 1984, Marshall and his family moved to Calgary. He joined Alberta Education as a consultant with the Social Studies Department. Upon retiring he continued pursuing his interests in education, history and archaeology. For many years Marshall served as President of the Archaeology Society of Alberta as well as President of the Heritage Foundation. He enjoyed and looked forward to meetings of the Calgary Knights of the Round Table. Marshall is survived by Sonia, his loving and devoted wife of 50 years; his son Darrell and daughter-in-law Holly of Cadogan, Alberta; his daughter Sharon and son-in-law Michael Silvaggio of Cranbrook, B.C. Missing their Gido are grandchildren: Raven, Jessica (Shane), Candice Dzurko; Trista (Jason), Tyler, Tanea, Tanner Silvaggo; Jordan and Alison Dzurko. John Joseph Emerson January 08, 1914 - April 22, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Leyden's Funeral Home (Calgary) John “Jack” Joseph Emerson, 91, died peacefully on April 22, 2005 in Calgary, Alberta at the Rockyview General Hospital. Jack was born on January 8th, 1914 in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. He was predeceased in 1996 by his beloved wife, and best friend of 59 years, Evelyn Taylor Emerson. He was the eldest of his family and is survived by his brother Richard “Dick” Emerson of Calgary; his sister Sheila Williams of Victoria; sisters-in-law Patricia Emerson and Marie Bell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His brother Harry Emerson, an RCAF pilot officer was killed in action in 1943 and his brother Tom Emerson died in June 1998. Jack and Evelyn moved to Calgary in 1957 with Patron Oil after working for them since 1934 in both Moose Jaw and Shaunavon. In 1965 he started Patron Equipment Supply, which he successfully ran until his retirement in 1976. After his retirement, Jack and Evelyn spent many enjoyable years together traveling. He was a part time resident of Waiparous Village since 1962 where he developed his cabin and from 1996 to 2003 he was delighted to be able to move to Waiparous on a full time basis. Jack loved the cabin and treasured his time there and was extremely thankful of his good friends Ib and Helga Rasmussen who kept a close eye on him. He moved back to Calgary in 2003 to the Beverly Estates. He was a long time Rotarian in both Moose Jaw and Calgary. Jack will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him. He was a colorful character with a great sense of humour, a great communicator with a genuinely keen interest in people and was a mentor to many, especially his nephew Bill Bell who was with him at his passing. Jack also wanted to especially thank his caregiver and assistant, Jane Major, who looked after him and his affairs for many years. She was often the eyes and ears for him and he truly appreciated the assistance. At Jacks request no service will be held.

Alexander "Sandy" MacDonald Flynn September 17, 1918 - April 28, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) FLYNN, Alexander MacDonald "Sandy" - 86, Dartmouth, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, in Oceanview Manor. He was a son of the late Alexander and Catherine (MacDonald) Flynn. Sandy was employed by Canada Post for 25 years, retiring in 1980 as a supervisor. He was a former member of the Dartmouth Curling Club and was an avid bridge player. He was a long-time member of Woodlawn United Church. He is survived by his wife, Ida (Salsman) Flynn, Dartmouth; twin daughters, Sandra (Christopher) Langmaid, Markham, Ont., and Sharon Flynn, Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Sarah; sister, Vinie Fraser, Thorburn; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Garret, Robert; sister, Mary. Steven Andrew Gabriel May 05, 1939 - April 01, 2005 It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Safe in the arms of Jesus, he leaves to mourn his wife of 19 years Agnes (Winnie) Gabriel, his daughter Morene Gabriel of Ebb and Flow, his cherished grandchildren Lakota, Carl, and Winona Gabriel of Ebb and Flow and their father Nelson Chaske of Winnipeg. Taryn Beardy. His sisters-in-law; Rosina, Hazel, Margaret, and his favourite cook Marie, brothers-in-law; Ben, William, Albert Jr., and his Niitah Gabe. His auntie Lizzie Delaronde of Duck Bay, MB. Many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, and all the little children who used to call him “Papa Steve”. Steve was predeceased by his father Joseph Gabriel in 1975, his mother Adeline (nee Campbell) in 1987, his sister Delia in 1969, her husband John Linski in 1997, brothers Wilfred (Eleanor) Gabriel in 1973, Earnest Gabriel in 1986, Carl Gabriel in 1996, sisters Bernice in 2000, her husband Gilbert Maud in 2002, Nora Tarty in 2005. His in-laws Albert Sr. and Elise Packo, sisters-in-law Phyllis Packo, Marie Packo, Flora Packo; brothers-in-law Boniface, Norbert (Dickie), Dan, Jerry and Steve. Steve was born and raised in Skownan, Manitoba. At a young age Steve left Skownan and attended the Pine Creek Residential School until he was 16 years old. After coming home from school, he stayed for a while then eventually at the age of 17 years old, he enrolled into the army. Due to his health condition Steve was unable to continue in the army and was released. Throughout his life he worked in various organizations. He worked on the Jenpeg and Grand Rapids Hydro Dams. He served as a Band Councillor for Skownan First Nation for a period of one term. He worked for the Children’s Aid Society; he also sat on various boards including the Grand Rapids Elders Justice Committee and most recently the ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Process for the Residential School Survivors. One of Steve’s greatest past times was going out on hunting trips with his nephews and friends. His true livelihood was carpentry and woodworking. He was a skilled carpenter by trade; he always paid close attention to detail as he took pride in his work as it reflected upon him. He also cherished his grandchildren Lakota, Carl, and Winona. He enjoyed spending time with them. He always encouraged his daughter Morene to make sure that everyone was taken care of and he emphasized the importance of education. He spoke with pride when he talked about his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by Lakota his little man, Carl, and his girl Winnie (Winona). Special thanks to the doctors and nurses (Marcy) in GH4 Health Sciences Centre for their care and support. Many thanks to Grand Rapids First Nation, Skownan First Nation. Also to all the people who helped support the family in their time of need, especially Steve’s nieces Orma Ferland and Stella Woodhouse who devoted their time to take care of him. Winnifred Garrison February 21, 1915 - April 06, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Winnifred on Wednesday April 6, 2005 at the proud age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband John; her son Bill; son in-law Ray; brothers Reginald, Wally and Charles; and sisters Connie and Marjorie. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Margaret and Priscilla (Ray); grandchildren Susan and Chuck; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Andrew Gasparik March 12, 1920 - April 08, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre Andrew Gasparik, aged 85 years, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre on the evening of Friday April 08, 2005. Andrew was born in Olsavce, Czechoslovakia on March 12, 1920. He immigrated to Canada in 1950 with Susan, his wife of 3 years, and Frank his two year old son. The young family settled in Fort William, where Andrew began a lengthy career as a Stevedore with the Canadian Steamship Lines Company. In l955 Andrew and Susan were proud parents of another son Andrew Daniel (Danny). Andrew was a strong but gentle, honest, hard-working, devout Lutheran who always put his family’s needs first before meeting his own. His other passion was his farm where for over 40 years; he raised a variety of livestock, growing a substantial garden every one of those years. Andrew is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan; his son Frank (Jane) from Edmonton, Alberta; his grandson Aaron in Edmonton and his granddaughter Jordan in Montreal, Quebec; his sister-in-law Elizabeth in Thunder Bay; nephews and niece David, Mike, Andy and Irene Verescak and their families in Thunder Bay. Andrew is also survived by his brother John and various relatives in Czechoslovakia. Andrew was predeceased by his parents, twin brothers Adam and George in Czechoslovakia, and by his beloved son Danny, in 1985 in Thunder Bay. Andrew, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend will be missed by his family and all those who knew him. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 7 until 9 P.M. in the Jenkens Funeral Home. NICHOLS, Rae- Passed away at Cassellholme Home For The Aged, Wednesday, May 4, 2005. Mina 'Rae' Nichols (née Davy), in her 88th year, beloved wife of Stan Nichols for 56 years. Alice Bobolio (nee: Bernard) , of Hearst - Date of Death: April 11th, 2005 - The funeral service for lifelong Hearst resident Alice (née Bernard) Bobolio, 66, of Alexandra St. was held April 15, 2005. She died at home suddenly, April 11. Born Nov. 8, 1938 in Hearst, she enjoyed painting and reading. Predeceased by her husband Ambrose Bobolio in 1997, she leaves a son Michel (Sylvie) Bobolio of Hearst, granddaughters Josée, Nancy and Jessica Bobolio, great granddaughter Mélissa, and grandsons Daniel and Alexis. SMALLMAN, Bev 1913-2005 There was nothing small about Bev Smallman. He was a gifted teacher, bee-keeper and bee inspector, pilot, hobby farmer, world traveller, artist, writer, photographer, storyteller - and a card ("Smallmanor", he called their pla ce in the country). Bev died of pneumonia at St. Mary's on the Lake Hospital in Kingston on Wednesday, May 4th at the age of 91. Born in Port Perry, Ontario, Bev was named Chief of Entomology in the Department of Agriculture in Ottawa in 1957, and, i n 1963, head of the Department of Biology at Queen's University - where he taught until 1980. He was immensely proud of his degrees and honours and he would have been tickled to see them listed: BA from Queen's, MSc from Western, PhD from Edinburgh, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Entomological Society of Canada Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Entomology, LLD from Trent. He leaves behind Sue Smallman, his wife of 40 years who will sorely miss him, as well his daughter Sylvia Smal lman of Vancouver, and granddaughter Kirsten Decle of Vancouver, Sue's daughter Clare Grant of Kingston, granddaughter Jessica Christiaans of Barrie, Ontario, her husband Aaron and great granddaughter Morgyn. He will also be fondly remembered by Al G rant and Carol Thain. Bev was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel Mayne. The family will honour Bev's memory privately on May 23rd, and they would be grateful if, in lieu of flowers, donations could be made in his name to St. Mary's of the Lake Hosp ital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, or another charity.
