Edwin Wilton "Poss" LaFontaine, age 79 and a resident of Pass Christian, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Pass Christian. Mr. LaFontaine was a native of Hancock County and retired after 43 years with L&N and CSX Railroads. He served in the U.S. Army during Korea and was a part of the Cursillo movement at Dedeaux. He served as Eucharistic minister for St. Stephen Catholic Church in DeLisle. Mr. LaFontaine was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mary Bosarge LaFonatine; a son, Carl LaFontaine; and two brothers, Milton and Clifton LaFontaine. Survivors include his wife, Betty Niolet LaFontaine, of Pass Christian; sons, Paul LaFontaine and his wife, Pam, of Gulfport; Timothy LaFontaine and his wife, Junita, of Pass Christian; Mark LaFontaine, of Biloxi; daughters, Deborah LaFontaine, of Washington, D.C.; and Mary Fortenberry and her husband, Melvin, of Pass Christian; sister, Tuleter Oliver of Bay St. Louis; and seven grandchildren, Amanda, Mitchell, Paul, Matthew, Ethan, Patrick, and Drew. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Riemann Funeral Home in Pass Christian. Philip J. Lamoureux, age 76, of Belgrade Lakes, Maine and Boca Grande, Fla, retired President and Chief Operating Officer of Warnaco, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Renee, in Fairfield. Born in Stamford, he received his BA Degree from Yale University in 1950. Following graduation, Mr. Lamoureux was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy and served onboard a minesweeper, and was honorably discharged as a lieutenant junior grade. After serving his country, he began his career at Warnaco and retired after 32 years of service. Survivors include his four children, Renee Lamoureux of Fairfield, Gregory Lamoureux, Michele Lamoureux and Denise Lamoureux, both of Westport; and six grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Lauren, Matthew, Jake and Alexandra. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. SPRINGFIELD - Mary "Rita" (McGrail) Surprenant, 88, a long time resident of the Hungry Hill Section of Springfield, and formerly of Lawrence, MA, died early Friday morning at the Chapin Center Nursing Home. She was born and educated in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of the late Albert F. and Grace E. (Campbell) McGrail, and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. Rita was employed for several years with the former 3M Company located on Dwight Street, Springfield, until her retirement in 1980. She was the wife of the late Frank Surprenant who died in 1997, and leaves one sister, Lillian Moffatt of Methuen, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, several sisters- in-law, and one brother-in-law. She was the sister of the late Harold F. McGrail. Her funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 am at Sampson's Liberty Street Funeral Home, 710 Liberty Street, with Rites of Committal to conclude in St. Michael's Cemetery, both in Springfield. William Saucier, 80, died Friday, April 1, 2005 in Diamondhead. He was born in Saucier, MS and lived on the MS Gulf Coast all his life. He was a graduate of Saucier High School and Mississippi State University. During WWII he served his country in the US Navy with duty in the South Pacific. His working career included being a high school teacher and principal at Saucier High School, manager at Progressive Wholesale and an employee at Ingalls Shipyard.He was preceded in death by his parents, Norwood "N.D." Saucier and Lydia Saucier and his sisters, Lorene Saucier Hickman and Evelyn Saucier Butler. He is survived by his children, Janet Saucier Craun and Bob Saucier, and daughter-in-law Georgia Saucier. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tiffany Craun, Julie Craun and Matthew Saucier. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to any Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lauderdale, FL; her daughter, Marion Hull of Stuart, FL; a sister of East Longmeadow; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews. SPENCER— Roland W. "Jack" Thibault, 86, of Howe Village, died Saturday, April 2 at St. Vincent Hospital, in Worcester, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Marie (Krisco) Thibault who died in 2003. He leaves a step son, Richard Riberdy of W. Brookfield and a step daughter, Viola Fountain of Warren, three sisters Evelyn Cloutier and Rita Hutchins both of Spencer and Beatrice Ledoux of E. Brookfield, 5 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Pauline Begley. Mr. Thibault was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, the American Legion Post 138 in Spencer and the Retired Men's Club of Spencer. He graduated from David Prouty High School in 1938 and Becker College in Worcester in 1940. He was a die maker at the former Johnston Steel & Wire Co. in Worcester for 33 years, retiring in 1984. He was an Army veteran of WWII. The funeral will be held Monday, April 4 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held on Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Emond was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed embroidering, crocheting , antiquing and cooking for her family.She is survived by her children, George Emond of Southington, Vivian Chiaro and Roger Emond, both of Meriden; two sisters, Ann Frangione and Sophie Mastrianni, both of Southington; three grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Grace, Tracey and Jeffrey Chiaro; a great-granddaughter, Amber; and a great-great-granddaughter, Angelina; and several nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass of Christian burial. He was born on August 15, 1909 in Cocoville, Louisiana to the late Vincent and Anita Roy Caubarreaux. Frenchie was a resident of Houston since 1937, was a devoted Catholic and loved his Lord. Ludovic Jean, 81, Port Charlotte, died at home March 31, 2005.He was born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and came to Port Charlotte in 1989 from New York City. He retired from the parks and recreation department of the city of New York, and was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church.Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Flavie L.; sons Michael Jean of Port Charlotte, Jocelyn Jean of Willingboro, N.J., Glenn Jean of Tampa and Gilson Jean and Gardy Jean, both of New York; a daughter, Gladys Orcel of Yonkers, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.

WATERVILLE -- Alphonse J. Desveaux, 83, died March 30, 2005 at an Augusta Health Care facility after a long illness. He was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia on July 6, 1921, a son of Anselme and Marie (Boucher) Desveaux.Alphonse was well known to many people from his days at the Knights of Columbus, Beanos, and coaching Little League for many years. An active member of the community, he was involved in Elks, Knights of Columbus 4th degree, VFW, American Legion, and the Sacred Heart League. He served during World War II at the Battle of Normandy. He also worked for 40 years for Maine Central Railroad, retiring in 1981.Alphonse was predeceased by a brother, Harold, and two sisters Geoffriene Fortin and Juliette Quirion.Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline (Pouliotte) Desveaux, of Waterville, a daughter, Delia Shorey, of Waterville, three sons, Gary Desveaux of Sidney, Wayne Desveaux of Shawmut, and Darryl Desveaux of Waterville, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be 2 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday April 4th, 2005 at Veilleux Funeral Home 8 Elm St. Waterville, where members of the Waterville American Legion will hold a chapel service at 4:15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Notre Dame Catholic Church Waterville. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Augusta.
