WESTMINSTER -- J.P. Roger Bastarache, 72, of 30 South Shore Road, died Friday, April 1, at the Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital, Gardner, after being stricken ill earlier that morning. Born in Fitchburg, on Dec. 21, 1932, he was the son of Phillip and Exilda (Leger) Bastarache. He resided for many years in Fitchburg before moving to Westminster 35 years ago. For more than 20 years Mr. Bastarache worked for as a technician for the Digital Equipment Corporation, much of the time in Westminster, retiring in 1989. During the Korean Conflict he served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Bastarache was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Fitchburg, and had attended St. Edward the Confessor Church in Westminster. He is survived by his wife of 48 years; Stella M. (Gaudet) Bastarache; a son, Gary R. Bastarache of Athol; a daughter, Anne E. Bastarache of Westminster; two brothers, Donald Bastarache of Leominster and Raymond Bastarache of Townsend; a sister, Lucy Dalton of Venice Beach, Fla; two grandchildren, Crystal Stone and Craig Bastarache; and a great-grandchild, Tyler Stone. Gary Benjamin, 52, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, MA ascended into the journey of life eternal, Thursday(March 31,2005) at his home. Born in New Britain, a son of Jeannette (LaJoie) Benjamin of Windsor Locks and the late Leon Benjamin. He grew up in Windsor Locks, and was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School. He had been a resident of West Springfield, MA, before moving to Feeding Hills, 15 years ago. Gary was a mechanic employed for the past ten years by A.C. Motor Express, West Springfield, MA. Gary is survived by a son, Matthew Benjamin and his fiance, Nichole of Springfield, his former wife, Sandy Szydlowski of Springfield, three brothers Andrew Benjamin, of Fresno, CA, his twin brother Eugene Benjamin of Enfield, Bruce Benjamin of Ludlow, MA, a sister Linda Benjamin of Wethersfield; three nephews, Andrew, Brian, Timothy; four nieces, Roxanne, Katelyn, Brittany, Ashlynn, a very special friend Louise and many aunts and uncles. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, beginning at 8 a.m. from the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial, celebrated at 9 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 823 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Dennis Allen Bergeron, a native and lifelong resident of Gonzales, died at his home Thursday, March 31, 2005. He was 57 years old. Dennis retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in 2000. He was the statistician and score keeper for the East Ascension High School Spartan's baseball team and the LSU Lady Tiger's basketball team. He is survived by his mother, Ruth "Sis" Bergeron, Gonzales; and two brothers, Gerald and Ronald Bergeron, both of Gonzales. Preceded in death by his father, Louis Allen Bergeron; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Bergeron Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. "Dar" Gautreau. In keeping with Dennis' wishes, his body was donated to the LSU School of Medicine. A memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. in the church. FARMINGDALE -- Blanche Sally LeVasseur, 90, of Hallowell Litchfield Road, died unexpectedly at her home on March 31, 2005. She was born in Wilton on Dec. 30, 1914, the daughter of Martin and Josephine (Posteneski) Bilevich. Mrs. LeVasseur had attended Wilton schools and had been employed at Bates Manufacturing Co. Edwards Division for more than 33 years. She was previously employed at Bath Iron Works as a welder during World War II. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallowell and the North American Family Campers Association Pine Tree Chapter 33. Blanche was predeceased by her husband, Ernest O. LeVasseur Sr., in 1995; two brothers, John and Stanley Bilevich; and two sisters, Wanda Perry and Mary Freer. Survivors include a son, Ernest O. LeVasseur Jr. of Farmingdale; a daughter, Marion Spiro and her husband, Paul, of Augusta; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Lois Branham Pare passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005. The daughter of Arthur Branham and Josephine Ryan-Branham, Lois was born on her father's homestead ranch on April 4, 1912, in what was then the Arizona-New Mexico Territory. The family's ranch was probably very near what is now the border between Arizona and New Mexico, in southern Arizona. Lois spent her early years on the ranch, and around the southern Arizona cities of Douglas and Bisbee. She attended high school in Douglas. Her father operated a stage line that carried the mail, and served passengers in many southern Arizona towns and ranches. Lois was married to Glen Pare in October of 1936, and later became the mother of Linda Pare-Bayless (deceased), and John Pare, currently living in Texas. Glen predeceased Lois, who is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, many of whom remain in Arizona. Lois served as the long time Administrative Director of the State of Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources. Her love for Arizona, its people, its Native American tribes and artwork, and its rich and storied history are known to all who knew Lois well. Lois was a devoted Catholic, and a member of the St. Agnes Parish for many years. Visitation will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home located at 4800 E. Malone — Miss Lillian M. Caron, 95, of 92 West Main St., Malone, N.Y., died Thursday evening, March 31, 2005, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y., where she has been a resident since Feb. 21, 2004.Born in Churubusco, N.Y., July 6, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Celina (Peno) Caron. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Malone and later from the Van Hotton Business School in Malone.In 1945, Miss Caron entered into a partnership with Walsh Tierney and formed the Tierney-Caron Insurance Agency in Malone. She continued to operate the business until her retirement in 1981.She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a life member of the Altar Rosary Society, a member of the Malone Catholic Daughters, Malone Lodge of Elks 1303 Auxiliary, a charter member of the Malone B.P.W. and was awarded B.P.W. Woman of the Year in 1963. She was also very active in the Malone Red Cross.Survivors include one sister-in-law, Edith Caron of Keene Valley, N.Y.; one niece, Mrs. Carl Veronica Franklin of Churubusco; two nephews, Joseph Caron of Guangdong, China, and John Caron of Lancaster, Mass.; two great-nephews and their wives, Thomas and Brenda Franklin of Murrieta, Calif., and James and Laurie Franklin of Middletown, Md.Along with her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Floyd and Elmer Caron; and one sister, Dora Patnode.Calling hours will be Saturday from 9 until 10:45 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Ola D. Gauvin, 88, of Bristol, died Friday, (April 1, 2005) at Countryside Manor. Ola was born January 17, 1917, in Madison, ME, a daughter of the late Winfield and Nora (Mahaffey) Davis. She was employed at Connecticut Spring and Stamping of Farmington until her retirement. She is survived by a son, Edgar Gauvin of Virginia; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Thomas Caron of Terryville, Jaydene and Nicholas Zaccaro, and Darlyne and Wayne Olsen, all of Bristol; two brothers, George Simpson of Bristol, and Reginald Mahaffey of Florida; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Jill Furnari, and Debra Zwick. The Gauvin family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Countryside Manor for their loving care-giving during Ola's illness. Claude "Bud' Anthony Granier, Jr., a retired employee of Shell died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was born in Norco and lived in Destrehan for 42 years. A graduate of Destrehan High School, Mr. Granier also held many offices in his church as well as participated in many political and recreational activities throughout his years. OLD TOWN - Patricia A. Parent, 69, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family March 31, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1936, in Old Town, a daughter of Francis Leroy and Rose Yvonne (Lavoie) Lacadie. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, camping, watching cooking shows, Sunday drives and dining out. She loved her crystal collection and bird watching. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 48 years, Roger Parent; three sons, Roger and his wife, Rachel, Michael, and Keith; all of Old Town; a daughter, Lea and her husband, Tony, of China; six grandchildren, Tara, Korey, Chelsea, Andrew, Alisha, and Brooke; a great-grandchild, Dakota; four sisters, Dorothy Boucher and her husband, George, Germaine Nadeau, Lorraine Tidwell, all of Old Town, Norma Jean "Jeannie" Pettorossi of New York; a brother, Harold Lacadie and his wife, Dawn, of Old Town; sister-in-law, Marjorie Lacadie of Milford; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Youenna “Ena” (Simon) Pichette, 75, of Fall River, formerly of Melrose St., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at home. She was the wife of Roger L. Pichette. Born, March 30, 1930, in Cape St. George, New Foundland, Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Philomena (Chanson) Simon, she lived in Canada many years and in Fall River for the past 52 years. She was employed by the former US Trunk, Shelburne Shirt Co. and Redwood Manor. A member of Good Shepherd Parish, she was a former member of Notre Dame Parish and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #486. Besides her husband of 54 years, she is survived by 2 sons, David Pichette and his wife Patricia of Watertown, MA and Donald Pichette of Fall River; a daughter, Cheryl Nicolau of Fall River a brother, Michael Simon of Deer Lake, New Foundland, Canada; 8 grandchildren, Robert, Erin, Rebaeka and Gerard Pichette, Rhonda McCabe, Crystal Monast, Jennifer Nicolau and Heidi McHugh; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Rita L. Hardy, 70, of Goffstown died March 31, 2005 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester following a brief illness.She was born on April 1, 1924 in Great Barrington, MA the daughter of the late Emile and Augustine (Gillett) Verchot. Rita graduated from Housatonic Grammar School & Seares High School in Great Barrington. She worked for the Connelly Law Firm, Dempsey Garage as office manager, and for Montgomery Ward before retiring in 1989. She was married to Arthur Hardy in 1959 and the couple enjoyed 45 devoted years together before he passed away this past February. Rita was active in as a volunteer for Prime Time and helped in many of their projects including "Daffodil Days" for the American Cancer Society. She also volunteered with Easter Seals, transporting clients to medical appointments. Rita was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her grandchildren.Family members include; two daughters and son-in-laws, Rita and Warren Silva of Provincetown, MA and Patricia and Matthew Wallace of Goffstown; two granddaughter and one grandson; a sister, Helen Atwood of Great Barrington, MA; and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 4th at 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence Church in Goffstown. Elle laisse dans le deuil une fille, Rose-Aline Trépanier de Bas-Caraquet; une petite-fille, Manon (Rob MacKenzie) de Hampton; un arrière-petit-fils, Benjamin, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. OBITUARY JOHN BUCHAK 1902-2005 It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of John Buchak on March 31, 2005. Predeceased by his beloved wife Yaroslava Hudyma; he leaves to mourn his loving daughter Roxanne (John) and his adoring grandchildren, Darrell and Keira (Christopher). John emigrated to Canada from the Ukraine in 1927. Skilled in many trades, he quickly adapted to his new country. He travelled to Nothern Ontario and enjoyed the challenges of logging. He then went to Saskatchewan to harvest wheat. However, Montreal kept beckoning him to come back. He returned, married and then became a restaurateur. This endeavour was short lived, for another challenge had to be adressed. Real estate was the answer; and he persued it with a passion. He built many homes in Montreal, from Ville LaSalle to the Town of Mount Royal to Ville D'Anjou. He retired at the age of seventy-nine, after he built a home that he would live in for 20 years. John Buchak was a man of morals, profound sincerity and a deep sense of pride which he demonstrated throughout his long and fruitful life. His love of family was first and foremost. We shall cherish all the wonderful memories that were his gift to us. Visitation at: On Sunday, April 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Bellechasse and 10th Ave. on Monday, April 4 and thence to the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery.
