LEARN, Harry L, of Welland, at the Woolcott Wing of the Welland County General Hospital, on Thursday, March 31, 2005, in his 95th year. Born at Sherkson, Ontario on September 14th, 1910. Predeceased by his wife Isabel (1992), a son , Paul (1967), hi s father and mother, Lvingston A. Learn and Lottie May (Troup), his sisters, Gertrude Day (Harlow), Ruth Case (Harold), Anne Wieser (Eddie) and brothers Arthur and Wilfred. Mr. Learn graduated from Ridgeway High and Vocational School and Robinson Bus iness College. He was employed by Provincial Gas Company as a Field Clerk at Sherskton, Area Manager at Welland and later for Consumers' Gas company as Purchasing Agent, Sales Promotion and latterly as Public Realtions and Industrial Development Repr esentative until his retirement after 46 years. He was a member of the Welland Jaycees and assisted in the formation of the Welland Humane Society. He was active in the Welland Optimist Club as Secretary, President and a Lieutenant Governor of Optimi st International. He assisted in the formation of Junior Achievement of the Niagara Region and was a Charter Director. He was a charter member of the Industrial Development Association of Canada, a member of the American Industrial Development Counci l and upon retirement was granted an honorary life membership in the Economic Developers Council of Ontario. He was a former member and active in five Chambers of Commerce in the Peninsula and a past President and life member of the Welland Club. He was a volunteer at the Welland County General Hospital and was also involved with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program for many years. In 2004 he was presented with the Senior Achievement Award by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in recogniti on of his significant contribution to his community. He is survived by his sons Al (Betty), Ed (Bernadee), James (Sylvia) and Ross, grand-daughters Sandra Fitzpatrick (John), Kelly Senchoway (Jim), Janice, Martha Jones (Steve), Jessica and grandsons John (Rosalie), Edward (Lise), Jeffrey (Lidia), William, Paul, Christopher, Joshua (Sarah) and Quinn (Michelle). Also survived by great grandchildren Jess, Devin, Melissa, Ryan, Ashley, Tulah, Troy, Cole, Skye, Haley, Tiana, Ty, Peyton, Sydney, Sophi e, Cassandra and Diti. Friends are invited to visit the family on Monday, April 4th from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland. The funeral service will be conducted on Wedn esday, April 6th at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 165 Sydney Place, Welland, with Pastor Rene Brochu officiating. COATES, Kenneth James M.D., O.B.E., Retired Colonel, R.C.A.M.C. On Wednesday March 16, 2005, peacefully after a long struggle with CVA and pneumonia, at Sunnybrook Veterans K Wing, Toronto, in his 91st year. Ken was a devoted husband to Wilma (Morrison) for over 65 years of marriage, loving father to Lyndi McDonald (George) and Carolyn (McInnes), and a wonderful grandfather to Ryan and Aaryn McInnes. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Gatin (Henry) of Regina, Saskatchewan, and brothers Robert and Leslie of Manitoba. Born in Virden, Manitoba, 1914, Ken attained his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1935, joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served from 1939 to 1945 overseas with the 10th Field Ambulance Corps. After WWII, he continued as a Chief Medical Officer with R.C.A.M.C. in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta until 1966; then as Staff Physician with the W.C.B. Hospital in Toronto 1966-1976. Ken and Wilma enjoyed many happy years of retirement with their family, traveling, golfing, visiting friends, at their homes in Florida and in Thornhill for 29 years. Many thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at Sunnybrook and to agency caregivers. A memorial service was held at Sunrise Unionville Sunday, March 20. NICHOLS, CHARLES E., 82, a retired letter carrier with the US Postal Service, Olneyville Office, died Thursday at Kent Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alice (Belhumeur) Nichols. Born in Providence, a son of the late Thomas W. and Agnes (Roach) Nichols, he lived in Warwick for 5 years, formerly residing in Providence. Mr. Nichols was a WWII Army veteran. He was the father of Chuck Nichols of Warwick, James R. Nichols of Cranston, Kenneth W. Nichols of Coventry, and Arlene F. Kennelly, Judith M. Witt and Patricia A. Brennan all of Warwick. He was the brother of William Nichols, Paul Nichols and the late Francis and George Nichols. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. His funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane, Warwick. MAURE, Jeanne D'arc Born August 29, 1940 in LaSalle, Ontario, passed away April 1, 2005 in Windsor, Ontario. Beloved daughter of the late Gilbert and Valerie Maure. Beloved mother of John Chevalier and wife Kathy of London. Loving grandmother of Jacob, Ryan and Nickalus Chevalier. Beloved sister of Roland and Helen Maure of LaSalle, the late Jerome (2003) and Ruth-Anne Maure of LaSalle, the late Bruno (2003) and Irene Maure of New Brunswick, Irene Drouillard and the late Albert (1974) of LaSalle and Mary Blanche Marentette and the late Frank (2002) of LaSalle, the late Florence Laframboise, Leonel Maure and Romeo Maure. Elle était la fille de Marguerite Thibault et de feu J. Alphonse Pelletier de Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. Youenna “Ena” (Simon) Pichette, 75, of Fall River, formerly of Melrose St., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at home. She was the wife of Roger L. Pichette. Born, March 30, 1930, in Cape St. George, New Foundland, Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Philomena (Chanson) Simon, she lived in Canada many years and in Fall River for the past 52 years. She was employed by the former US Trunk, Shelburne Shirt Co. and Redwood Manor. A member of Good Shepherd Parish, she was a former member of Notre Dame Parish and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #486. Besides her husband of 54 years, she is survived by 2 sons, David Pichette and his wife Patricia of Watertown, MA and Donald Pichette of Fall River; a daughter, Cheryl Nicolau of Fall River a brother, Michael Simon of Deer Lake, New Foundland, Canada; 8 grandchildren, Robert, Erin, Rebaeka and Gerard Pichette, Rhonda McCabe, Crystal Monast, Jennifer Nicolau and Heidi McHugh; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robert, Gerard and Richard Pichette and the sister of the late Adele Hynes, Mary Kerfont, Elisabeth Wheeler, Ann Nolan and Joseph, John, Edward, Arthur, David and Vincent Simon. Euclide Dolbec -- He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., on March 27, 1912, the son of Alcide and Aqilina (Manceau) Dolbec and had been living in Rochester for more than 60 years, moving from Woonsocket, R.I.He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, a volunteer at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester and with the Homemakers of Strafford County. Prior to his retirement he was a security guard at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.He leaves his wife of 67 years, Jeanne (Roy) Dolbec of Rochester; one son, Paul Dolbec of Yardley, Pa.; three grandchildren, Eric Dolbec of Las Vegas, Nev., Jessica Dolbec of Topsham, Maine, and Nicole Neboshynsky of Annapolis, Md.; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester.It has been suggested that memorial donations be directed to the Share Fund, 183 North Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.H.J. Douglas Bruce Crossman ANAGANCE, NB - Douglas Bruce Crossman of Anagance, age 41, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005 at The Moncton Hospital. Born September 27, 1963 in Moncton, he was a son of Gordon and Garda (Wheaton) Crossman. He was an employee of H. A. Fawcett and Son, working as a sawyer and a member of Petitcodiac Golf and Country Club. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Loretta (Dennison); son, Nick; daughter, Lacey, both at home; brothers, Kelly (Vicky) of Petitcodiac, Mike of Salisbury; nieces, Shelby, Tyra, Anna; nephews, Jarrett, Taylor. Resting at Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac, with visiting hours on Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral will be held from the Petitcodiac Baptist Church on Monday, April 4, 2005 at 1pm. with Rev. G. Cook officiating. Burial will be held in the Anagance Cemetery at a later date. HOVEY, GRACE S. Grace S. Hovey, of Ludlow, NB, wife of the late James Hovey, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 1st, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Porter Cove, NB on March 23, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Maude (Lyons) Long. Grace was a member of the Ludlow United Baptist Church. She enjoyed puzzles, gardening and the outdoors. She is survived by five daughters, Jennie Hovey of Fredericton, NB, Betty Chase of St. Catherine's, ON, Alice Pond (Lloyd) of Taxis River, NB, Linda Brooks (Darryl) of Fredericton, NB, Susan Hovey (Darcy) of Prince George, BC; two sons, Vimy Hovey (Joyce) of Bullhead City, Arizona, James L. Hovey (Jane) of Saint John, NB; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother Albert Long (Olive) of Porter Cove, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Grace is predeceased by her sister Amanda. Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 4th, 2005 at 2:30 pm from Miramichi Valley Funeral Home's Chapel with Rev. David Egers officiating. Surviving are daughters, Louise and Carol-Ann, Saint John, NB; sisters, May (Art) Anderson, Toronto, ON, Helen (Norman) MacAulay, Westmount, Thelma (Art) Maxner, Sydney and Grace Bradshaw, Etobicoke, ON; brothers, William "Bud" (Pat), Alberta, Bill (Yvonne), Sydney, Robert, Toronto and Donald (Irene), Oshawa; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Theresa Tobin and Danny Dugas. DeROSIER, Leo Joseph, 89, of San Antonio, Fla., passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005, at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills. He was born March 5, 1916, in Auburn, Maine, and came to San Antonio in 1922. He graduated from St. Anthony's School and from Saint Leo Preparatory School in 1933. At the outset of World War II, he joined the Canadian Air Force as a fighter pilot serving in Europe with the British Air Force at which time he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon returning to San Antonio, he married Helen Deis of Onaka, S.D. They ran the family general store for several years until 1960 when he opened a television business in Dade City. A short time later he sold his interest in that business and devoted his time to the real estate/appraisal business until his retirement. During his years in Dade City he belonged to various professional and civic organizations, including being a member and past President of the Dade City Board of Realtors and membership of the American Societ y of Appraisers. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; daughters, Jean Guerierri of Tampa, Carol (Bruce) Sharer of Raleigh, N.C., Leone (Joseph "Skip") Schambeau of Dade City, Patricia (John) Shafchuk of New Port Richey, Irene DeRosier of Seattle, Wash., and Suzanne DeRosier of Hudson; sister, Mary Kean of San Antonio; niece, Fay Martin and her family of Tampa; grand- children, Joy Bang (Mikael) of Biddeford, Maine, David Schambeau of Dade City, John Paul and Ryan Shafchuk, both of New Port Richey, Sam DeRosier of Seattle, Wash., Rob Sharer of Paris, France and Marshal Sharer of New York City; and one great-grandson, Johannes Bang. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at St. Anthony of Padua with the Rev. Joe Siniski as celebrant. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the church where a Rosary and Wake service will be at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to St . Anthony's Church.
