Daniel Edgar Cardinal Jr., age 89, passed away March 27, 2005 at Fishermens Hospital in Marathon, FL. Daniel was born Nov. 3, 1915 in Minocqua, WI the son of Daniel Edgar and Helen ''Josart'' Cardinal Sr. Daniel had been visiting the Florida Keys Marathon, FL area since the 1940's when he flew out of Marathon, FL airport during WW II. He had been a part time resident since the 1980's. He joined the U.S. Airforce during WW II and was not able to fly so he joined the U.S. Army where he flew during WW II countless missions world wide. At his discharge he was a captain in the U.S. Army. During the 1930's Daniel's father had operated a hotel in Vinice, FL and Daniel joined him in that operation after the war. Daniel Edgar Cardinal III operated the hotel until the 1970's. Daniel remained an active pilot throughout most of his life. In 1955 he founded Cardinal Industries Inc., a Masonite Manufactoring Co. He was still operating that business part time until his death. Daniel will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind, thoughtful, wonderful man who was a very active person. Survivors include one son, Daniel Edgar Cardinal III (JoAnna) of Arbor Vitae, WI; three daughters, Shawn Cardinal (Byron Metcalf) of Prescot, AZ, Pamela (Randy) Bell of Jacksonville, FL and Lynn Cardinal (Steve Bosetti) of Mercer Island, WA; six grandchildren Daniel Edgar IV (Jody) of Prospect Heights, IL, Benjamin S. (Kara) Cardinal of St. Louis, MO, Erin Bosetti and Nicole Bosetti both of Mercer Island, WA, Thain (Brooke) Bell of Denver, CO and Najla Bell of Jacksonville, FL; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Nora Cardinal both of Prospect, IL; his friend of Joni Doherty of Illinois. The family will receive friends at the Key Colony Beach Auditorium on April 1, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life and service will begin at 7 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Richard Derreth of Big Pine United Methodist Church, afterwhich his remains will be cremated and memorial funeral services will be held at Yurs Funeral Home, Routes 25 and 64, St. Charles, IL, 10 a.m. April 5, 2005. AGAWAM - Armand Edward "Moe" Charest, 85, entered into the journey of eternal life on Tuesday, March 29th, 2005 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. He was the loving husband of 62 years to the late Beatrice Martha (Isabelle) Charest, who predeceased him on December 6, 2004. A devoted daughter, Maureen Magnani-Lorraine also predeceased him on January 20th of this year. Mr. Charest is survived by his devoted children, a son, Lawrence A. "Larry" Charest and his wife Linda of Feeding Hills; 4 daughters, Barbara Biagini and her husband Carm, Janice Garvey, all of Agawam, Ann Marie Rowe and her husband Dan of Springfield, Donna McKay and her husband Ted of Feeding Hills; 13 cherished grandchildren, Michele, Michael, Marnie, Eric, Stephanie, Joe, Gina, Ashlee, Mark, Melissa, David, Kimberly, Kevin; 12 special great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Armand was born in Springfield, the youngest of 13 children, on March 9, 1920, son of the late Joseph and Marie (Rioux) Charest, but had been a resident of Agawam since 1950. He proudly served his country during WWII in France and Germany and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant on June 20, 1945. Prior to his retirement in 1974 he was employed by American Bosch, Springfield. An avid golfer, he participated on the American Bosch League, and was also a member of the Oxford Country Club, and The Orchards. He also enjoyed Bocce, and tested his skills at the Dante Club, West Springfield. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Agawam, and also was a member of the West Springfield Knights of Columbus. His funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2005 beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 823 Main Street, Agawam. Burial with military honors will follow in the Agawam Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for calling hours on Thursday, March 31, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that expressions of sympathy be made to the Disabled American Veterans Assoc., Chapter #68, 68 Court Street, Springfield, MA 01103. Mary M. "Beryl" Nelson, 74, of Concord, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Concord Hospital. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Ernest and Gladys Gallant. She was a 1948 graduate of Concord High School and worked for more than 25 years as the front desk supervisor of the Racquet Club of Concord. During the 1960s, she volunteered in blood drives throughout Concord. Beryl enjoyed playing badminton and was a member of the New Hampshire Badminton Association for 15 years. She loved playing golf and gardening. Beryl was a member of the Friendly Club of Concord and a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Concord. She is survived by her husband of more than 55 years, John B. Nelson of Concord; one son, Jack B. Nelson of Concord; one daughter, Deborah L. Nelson of Concord; one brother, Ernest Gallant Jr. of Laconia; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. LEWISTON - Lucille F. Brillant, 87, a resident of 22 Valley St., Lewiston, died early Tuesday morning at St. Marguerite d'Youville Pavilion following a brief illness.She was born in Auburn, Nov. 11, 1917, the daughter of Ulric and Marie (Bellemare) Gardner.She was a lifelong resident of the community. FLEURY, MARTHA (AVEDISIAN), 91, Cranston, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Cedar Crest Nursing Center, Cranston. She was the wife of the late Wildor J. 'Bill' Fleury. Born in Worcester, MA, a daughter of the late Michael and Altoon (Tashjian) Avedisian, she moved to Providence in 1929, moving to Cranston in 1957. Mrs. Fleury was a jewelry supervisor and worked for the former A & B Manufacturing Company and later Browns Mills Jewlery Company, both in Providence for many years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church of Providence and a past member of its Choir. She was also a member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union. Mrs. Fleury is survived by her sister, Gladys Thovmasian of Cranston and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Richard Avedisian and Victoria Angell. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Sts. Delia (Leveille) Hicks, 97 of Holyoke, MA, died Tuesday, (March 29, 2005) at the Holyoke Medical Center. Born in Easthampton, November 18, 1907, a daughter of the late Leon and Marie (Desmarais) Leveille, she attended Easthampton Schools and the former Northampton Commercial College. Mrs. Hicks was an Administrative Assistant at Nonotuck Manufacturing for many years and was a Communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. She was also a Notary Public. Her husband John Hicks predeceased her Oct. 9, 1990. She is survived by her loving son Edward and his wife Carole of Glastonbury; three treasured granddaughters, Laura Correy and her husband Arthur and Holly Kenny and her husband Sean all of Glastonbury and Carrie Conroy and her husband Peter of Wethersfield; and several nieces and nephews, among them Eileen Rivest and her husband Donald and Nancy Flavin all of Easthampton and John Flavin of Agawam. Funeral services will be Friday, April 1, 10 a.m. from the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. FITCHBURG -- Anna Clair Thibodeau, 79, of 35 Parson Circle, died Thursday, March 24, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster. She was born in Berlin, N.H., on Nov. 2, 1925, the daughter of Alfred and Hazel (St. Cyr) Martin. Ms. Thibodeau was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Clean Street Corps of Fitchburg, and was active in local politics in Fitchburg, supporting several candidates.She leaves one daughter, Mary McMaster of Fitchburg with whom she lived; one sister, Ethel Eggleston of Greenville, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, William R. O’Driscoll, and one brother, Charlie Martin, both formerly of Boston. THIBODEAU -- On March 24, Anna Clair Thibodeau, 79, of Fitchburg. Robert O. Mathieu, 73, of Courtney Street in Fall River formally of Country Drive in Somerset, MA for twenty seven years passed away suddenly on Monday, March 28, 2005 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of twenty seven years to Claire M. (Bernier-Goddu) Mathieu and the former husband of the late Yvonne (Froment) Mathieu. Mr. Mathieu was born in Fall River, MA on May 29, 1931 the son of the late Ovila and Eva (Moreau) Mathieu, he attended the former Msgr. Prevost high school in Fall River and then went to work as a truck driver for the former Gamache trucking in Fall River and Hemingway trucking in East Providence, RI. Mr. Mathieu then went to work as a mechanic for McLean trucking in Pawtucket, RI for nineteen years he then took over the family business in 1971 Mac’s Auto service in Somerset which he owned and operated until he retired in 1989. He was a communicant of Saint Louis de France Church in Swansea a member of the Knight of Columbus Bishop James Cassidy Council 3669 in Swansea, State community director for the Knights of Columbus, former district deputy, a fourth degree knight, and past faithful navigator, also a member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks #118.Survivors beside his wife are two daughters Claudette D. Alberto of Westport, MA Patricia L. Ford of Dighton, MA six sons Robert R. Mathieu of Tiverton, RI Ronald J. Mathieu of San Diego, California Roger N. Mathieu, Raymond R. Goddu II, Michael D. Goddu of Somerset, MA and Stephen S. Goddu of Mashpee, MA a brother Gilbert Mathieu of Somerset, MA thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews He was the brother of the late Norman Mathieu.

Born in Holyoke, son of the late Felix & Mary (O'Neill) Menard, he was educated in St. Jerome schools class of 1947. He was a veteran of the Korean War with the US Navy. She and her husband moved to Forestdale in 1973. She was a homemaker and worked at Cape Cod Candle for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking for her family and storytelling. Survivors include a brother, Robert Patenaude; a sister, Jeannette Patenaude-Kalil; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation is 9 to 10 a.m. today at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, followed by a funeral at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, Sandwich. Hilda M. (Theriault) Gesnaldo, 87, of Wethersfield, widow of Frank Gesnaldo, died, Tuesday, (March 29, 2005) at a local convalescent hospital. She was born in St. John's New Brunswick, Canada daughter of the late Frank and Emila (Violette) Theriault and had lived in Wethersfield for over 35 years. Prior to her retirement, Hilda worked for Aetna Insurance Co. for over 25 years. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church and St. Luke's Church. She was a longtime member of Wethersfield Senior Citizens. Hilda enjoyed her activities with her family and had a special knack for cooking and was renowned for her pizza making. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Irving Smith of Pennsylvania, Beverly and Jack Hines of Bristol and Patricia and Thomas McCartan of Niantic; seven grandchildren, Karen Robitaille, Tommy McCartan, Michael and Beth Hines, Robin and Jason Carey, Michele Smith, Nicole and Joseph Peterson and Danielle Smith and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday, April 1, 9:15 a.m. from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. RUMFORD - Leon G. Therriault Sr., 89, of Coburn Avenue, Dixfield, died Monday, March 28, at Rumford Community Hospital following a long illness.He was born in Lewiston, on May 11, 1915, a son of Joseph and Ida (Boivin) Therriault.He was educated in Dixfield schools and was a graduate of Dixfield High School, Class of 1934. He married the former Helen Fabian on Jan. 30, 1937, in Chisolm.He was employed for 38 years with the former Boise Cascade Paper Co., in the Electrical Department.He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Dixfield Fire Company, Oakdale Country Club and the 25/40 year club at the former Boise Cascade. For many years he played semi-pro baseball for the "Dixfield Dixies" in the old Pine Tree Baseball League.He enjoyed spending time at his summer cottage in Harpswell digging clams and golfing, but most of all just enjoying life.Surviving are his beloved wife of 68 years, Helen (Fabian) Therriault; three sons, Leon G. Jr., and wife, Theresa, of Mexico, Richard G. and wife, Ann, of Norridgewock and Thomas R. and wife, Bonita, of Dixfield; a daughter, Linda L. Dunlay and husband, Thomas, of Dixfield; three sisters, Rita Brown of Dixfield, Marguerite Brown of Mexico and Priscilla Robinson of Dixfield; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by a grandson, Rick Dunlay.

Mr. Douglas Austin Bassett December , 1942 - March 21, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Nanaimo) BASSETT, Douglas Austin, it is with great sadness that we announce the death of Douglas Austin Bassett, age 62, most recently of Gibson’s Landing, British Columbia and formerly of Montreal. Doug is predeceased by his parents Herb and Irene Bassett and will be mourned by his wife Carole; his children Jacques (Susan) and Bobbi (Dave); his brother Ted (Mona); their children Anita and Paul: his cherished mother-in-law Marion Keller; his brother-in-law Carmen Keller (Gail) and many more family, friends, colleagues and sailing buddies. Diagnosed with cancer two years ago, and expected to live only a few months more, Doug not only attended his retirement party at CSA a year later, but also participated in his “Wake” at Beaconsfield Yacht Club (for which he’d set aside funds the year before). No one had a better time at either party. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Doug received his Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. He spent most of his early career at SED Systms Ltd, and moved on to join the Canadian Space Agency virtually at it’s inception. Doug was one of the handful of principals who guided Canada’s Space Station efforts over the years. He was the key leader in the effort to plan for the actual operational use of the Canadarm II. His contribution included not only developing procedures, but also the training of those on the ground who assist the astronauts on the Station, and coordination with Canada’s International Partners of the general operations of the Station. Later Doug led the planning and negotiation for building the Special Purpose Dextrous Manipulator, another major element of Canada’s Station program. Everyone who knew Doug knew how much he loved sailing, but what he was proudest of, was the special bonds he forged with his children Jacques and Bobbie Pelletier. Both of us will remain forever grateful for their love and devotion during these most difficult last two years – in which Doug (true to form) did not go gently into that good night” but fought “against the dying of the light.” For those who wish to: a donation in Doug’s name to the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society, Box 2698, Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A0 would be greatly appreciated. Pendant sa retraite, il continua d'être actif à titre d'évaluateur et consultant pour la firme "Vexor Construction." BROUSSEAU, Edward J., age 82, of Sebring, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at Tampa General Hospital. He was born September 30, 1922 in Cambridge, Mass., the son of Alfred E. Elizabeth Norton Brousseau. Mr. Brousseau was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II, he served moving troops and material where needed. After the war, Mr. Brousseau was employed as a Chief Steward with Sun Oil Co. in the Marine Department. Retired from Sun Oil Co. in 1980, he then joined his wife as co-owner of Greenwood Orchard and Cider Mill in Orangeville, Penn. Besides his wife, Catherine, he is survived by three sons, Daniel F. Brousseau of Wilmington, Del., James Brousseau of New Castle, Del. and Edward Brousseau of Virginia; three stepchildren, Linda Bates of Orlando, Gary Logan of Harrington, Del. and Coleman Logan of Berwick, Penn.; 10 grandchildren. He was affiliated with the Church of Buttonwood Bay and a member of the American Legion. His passion was the C.C.C. Museum at Highlands Hammock State Park. He ser ved in the C.C.C. for 2 years, 1939-1940 at Delores, Colo. and Underhill, Vt. FURMAN N. MENARD SR. -- FAIRFIELD — Furman N. Menard Sr., 63, passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his family. He was born July 5, 1941, in Sheldon, the son of the late Albert and Ida (Jutras) Menard. He was a resident of Fairfield most of his life, where he operated a dairy farm that he purchased in 1964, and was forced into retirement after suffering a stroke in 1982. He was very involved in his children's activities from baseball, Scouts and 4-H. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fairfield, and was a former member of the Grange. He is survived by his wife, Teresa “Terri“ (Brier) Menard of Fairfield, they were married Aug. 29, 1960; daughter, Brenda Paradee and her husband Chris of Fairfax; sons, Furman “Norman“ Menard Jr. and his wife Sarah of Fairfield, Joseph Menard and his wife Michelle of Fairfield, Michael Menard of Fairfield, and Albert Menard and his wife Dawn of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren, Jared, Jessica and Elijah Paradee, Elizabeth and Emma Menard, Kylee and Anthony Ryan, Landis Menard, and Caleb, Colin and Joshua Menard; two brothers, Daniel Menard and his wife Joyce of Fairfield, and Gerald Menard of Palm Springs, Calif.; six sisters, Marion Lussier of Exeter, N.H., Hilda Demar of St. Albans, Hortense Vanslette of Highgate Springs, Ruth Brosseau and her husband Leo of Garden Grove, Calif., Lucille Kinerson of Irasburg, and Anita Paradee of Enosburg Falls; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Denise Menard, who died at birth; a brother, Maurice “Pete“ Menard; and three nephews. Merley Menard "Toot" Forestier, 84, formerly of Lake Charles, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, in a Welsh care facility. She leaves to mourn her children Fr. Ronald Hochman, C.S.V., Thomas Hochman, Jo-Anne Hochman (Ken), David Hochman (Janet) and her five precious grandchildren: Ray-Al, Julien, Mario, Justin and Julie. She was predeceased by her loving husband Marcel Fenez, her parents Émerence Leblanc (née Lussier) and Bert Leblanc and her brothers Lionel, Donald, Gérald, Claude and her sister Hélène. Mom was known for her wonderful voice which could be heard in choirs, weddings, gatherings and all around the house. She knew the words and melodies of many songs and would sing often. She had a passion for life and joyfully shared her charismatic personality with all whom she met. She always thought foremost of others and their well-being and was always generous of herself with boundless energy. Her Christian faith inspired her in the good and bad times of life. She dedicated each day to the Lord. She was an excellent cook, had a green thumb in the garden and loved flowers. She made wine and beer, read avidly, loved adventure and graced us with her wonderful sense of humor. She possessed a great spirit and did all with endless enthusiasm. Being the eldest girl of a large family she was not foreign to hard work. She worked at different jobs during her life as well as being a home-maker: store clerk, real-estate agent, coordinator for The Catholic Girl Guides of Manitoba, the Association of Francophone Seniors and was a volunteer for many organizations (girl guides, Development and Peace…). She was extremely generous in financial support of numerous charities. Farewell dear Mother. You have well deserved your rest. We are grateful for your life and the heritage of faith and love you have bequeathed us. The family offers heartfelt thanks to members of the staff of Vista Park Lodge for their care and compassion towards Mom.
