Charles (Burt) Babin, 73 of Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, March 28, 2005. He was a native of Orleans Parish, LA. Son of Gabriel and Florence Babin. He was retired from Chevron Chemical Co., and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Essex. Survived by his wife of 38 years, Ethel V. Johnson Babin. Daughters Karen Corkern of Whitesbsurg, GA and Sherry Clay of Los Osos, CA. Son, Kevin Babin of Franklin, NC. Sister, Ethel Abadie of Westwego, LA. Brother, Elmo Babin of Cottonsport, LA. 7grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren . ST. AGATHA and CARIBOU Lawrence Bosse, 81, died peacefully at his home after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family on March 29, 2005. He was born April 19, 1923, in St. Agatha, the son of Deline (Chasse) and Joseph Bosse. He was educated in the St. Agatha schools. He took courses from Scranton Vocational in Pennsylvania, where he obtained his plumbing, oil burner and electrical licenses. He received many educational certificates during his working career. Lawrence married the love of his life, Hilda Ayotte, in 1942. In his early years, Lawrence worked for the Daughters of Wisdom in St. Agatha as well as in the woods of Northern Maine. He owned a plumbing and heating business for many years in Madawaska and continued that line of work long after the family moved to Caribou. For over 20 years, Lawrence served as the supervising foreman of the Plumbing and Heating Shop at Loring Air Force Base. He turned Funland Amusement Park in Caribou from a driving range to a wonderful place where families could spend hours of enjoyment. Many of his great inventions, such as a ball washer and a speed control on the go-carts, were used to facilitate many employee tasks. After retiring from this family-owned business, Lawrence and Hilda would travel to Florida during the winter months and summer in their hometown of St. Agatha. His carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills remodeled many homes and camps for his family. Combining his love of the outdoors and commitment to his work, Lawrence nourished beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, which many people enjoyed. His expertise and creativity was shown in many boats and cars he remodeled. He loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and riding his four-wheeler to berry pick with his many friends and family. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and recently received recognition for 50 years of consecutive membership. Lawrence was a life time member of the St. Agatha Catholic Church. Lawrence will be missed by his many friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Deline Bosse; a daughter, Patricia; four brothers, Armand, Louis, Wallace and Valere; and a great-grandson, Nicolas. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Hilda; five sons, James of Caribou, Philip and Denise of Caribou, Larry and Linda of Marshfield, Ronald of Franklinton, N.C., Michael and Peggy of Caribou; three daughters, Cecile and Ellis Dechaine of Terryville, Conn., Jackie and special friend Dr. John Stewart of Caribou, Nancy and Jim Chandler of Presque Isle; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Blanche Collin of Madawaska, Sister Martha of Ottawa, Canada, Theresa and Bob Bushway, Joan and David Olievera, all of Plainville, Conn., Jean and Conrad Cyr of St. David; and one brother, Herve and Corrine of Plainville, Conn. He will be sadly missed by special friends, Armand Chasse and Jean-Paul Bechard. Relatives and friends may call at Michaud's Funeral Home in St. Agatha from 9:00 to 10:00 am before the 11:00 am service on Friday, April 1, 2005, at the St. Agatha Catholic Church. Internment will be at the St. Agatha parish cemetery later this spring.

OBITUARY KENT ALEXANDER HAUVER Suddenly at the Brockville General Hospital on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the age of sixty-four years. Beloved husband of Maureen (O'Shaughnessy) Hauver of Brockville. Dear brother of Robert Hauver (Rena) of Ottawa. Also survived by his father-in-law Bernard Kreps and sister-in-law Gail (David Foster) of Maitland, Barbara (Roger Sauve) of Hawkesbury and Corinne (Dr. Arne Cera) of B.C. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and many close friends. Kent was born in Quebec, spent summers at Lake Selby in the Eastern Townships with life long dear friends. He was with the RAF 401 Squadron, Montreal. Kent worked for Terry Industries, Pointe Claire, Division of Textron and later went to Brazil for Textron-Homelite. He returned to Brazil Sao Paulo for Oak Industries out of California. He moved back to the United States, Channel 44 in Chicago, Malne Bucket Company, Advanced Dynamics in Quebec and Saratoga Springs, New York, Servo Products in Pasadena, California. Kent and Maureen's nineteen moves took them to many places and the opportunity to meet the best of friends. Kent will be greatly missed; he was a unique, very special gentleman and best friend. Cremation and a private family gathering will take place at the Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland. A celebration of Kent's life will also be held at a later date. Mary "Betty" Elizabeth Palmer January 20, 1932 - March 29, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Lower Sackville) PALMER, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" - Age 73, Bedford, formerly of Waverley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 29, 2005. Born in Jacques River, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Delphus and Lena (Young) Guitard. During her many years in Waverley, Betty devoted numerous hours of her time to various charities including Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and the United Way. She was an active member of St. John's Anglican Church. After moving to Bedford, she became a member of the Bedford Leisure Club, and a volunteer at Fultz House Museum. Her hobbies included bowling and serving on the Social Club at her condo building. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her only son, Dwayne (Lois), Ottawa, Ont.; daughters, Debi (Randy) Jones, Hammonds Plains; Linda (Donnie) Wilkinson, Campbell River, B.C.; Judy (Paul), Bedford; Holly (John) Bulley, Halifax; Margo (Gerald) MacKay, Prospect; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Alvin (Gloria), Gerald (Bev), and Donat; sister, Veronica Maxwell; several nieces and nephews. DARRAH, (MARY) JANE (Mary) Jane Darrah of Chipman, NB passed away Tuesday, March 29th, 2005 at the age of 100, at the Queens North Health Complex. Born July 3rd, 1904 at Hardwood Ridge, NB. Jane was the daughter of Duncan and Margaret (Kadey) Betts. Jane is survived by four grand children. Jane was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her husbands, William McNeill, Russell Murray and (Almond) Allie Darrah, one son William McNeill, and his wife Jean, one brother Vernon Betts, five sisters Betty Biddiscombe, Jemima Chase, Margueritte Hickey, Irene Brown and Ruby Bishop. Step children Willard Murray, Muriel Sweeney, Hazen Darrah, Lorna Hopkins and Basil Darrah. Jane was a faithful member of her religious group. Jane always said she had a good life, had worked in the dining room at Harvard University, Boston, cooked at lumber camps and made cookies and do-nuts at home to sell. She enjoyed baking, sewing, visiting and having visitors. Jane Darrah is resting at the CHIPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 28 Northrup Drive, Chipman, NB with visitation March 30th, 2PM to 4PM and 7PM to 9PM. AKERLEY, GORDON PERCY The death of Gordon Percy Akerley, of Fredericton, NB, husband of L. Mae (Hutchins) Akerley occurred on March 29, 2005 at his home. Born in Wickham, NB on October 3, 1935, he was the son of the late Percy and Margaret (Mott) Akerley. He was a Forest Fire Operations Officer for the Province of New Brunswick with the Department of Natural Resources, retiring after 42 years of service. Gordon was a scout leader, a first-aid instructor, a sports enthusiast; loved hockey, cross country skiing, fishing and hunting. He was liked by all that knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Scott Gordon (Meganne) of Victoria, BC; one daughter Melissa Jean (Jarret) Meadows of Fredericton, NB; two brother-in-laws, Bob (Elva) Hutchins of Saint John, NB and Vaughan (Valerie) Hutchins of Newtown, NB; one sister Lois (Ross) Urquhart of Sussex, NB; sister-in-law Dora Hutchins of Summerside, PE; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother-in-law Basil Hutchins. There will be no visitation by request. Carlyle F. Yuill 1919-2005 Carlyle (Carl) F. Yuill of Moncton passed away in his 87th year at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, March 28, 2005. Born in Truro, NS, he was the last surviving family member of the late Suther P. and Mary (Carlyle) Yuill. Carl was a retired C.N.R. Chief Dispatcher with 45 years service, member of Highfield St. United Baptist Church and former member of the men's choir, he also served his church in various duties in past years. He was a 58 year member and past master of Truro Lodge #43 A.F.& A.M. and member of Acacia Lodge #49 A.F & A.M., Moncton. He was a member of the Moncton Lodge of Perfection, Britton Chapter of Rose Croix, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and former Chapter Dad of Order of Demolay. He was a member of The CN Pensioner's Assoc. and The Canadian Assoc. of Train Dispatchers, former member of Moncton Curling Assoc., CN Tuesday morning bowling league and former Boy Scout master (Truro). An avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing trips with sons, grandsons and great grandsons, as well as his close friend the late Art Taylor at Lake O Law Resort in Cape Breton (Margaree Valley). CAMERON, ROY DOUGLAS At the Oromocto Public Hospital on Tuesday March 29, 2005 Roy Douglas Cameron of Upper Hampstead, NB passed away at the age of 90. Born in Upper Hampstead, NB he was a son of the late James and Mabel Cameron and husband of the late Stella Cameron who passed away August 2004. Roy had a great passion for horses. He trained race horses and travelled all over the Maritimes to horse sales and races. Roy was also a member of the Gagetown Gems. He is survived by two sons Douglas (Eileen) and Floyd (Shirley) all of Upper Hampstead; four daughters Ruth Allen of Upper Gagetown, Donna Banks (Ross), Doreen Underhill (Victor), Diane Urquhart (Willard) all of Gagetown; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Berta Elisabeth Topf Berta Elisabeth Topf, devoted wife and mother, 83, of Moncton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Moncton Hospital. Victoria Wazny February 07, 1909 - March 28, 2005 Peacefully, after a brief illness, Victoria Wazny passed away on March 28, 2005 at the age of 96 at Fred Douglas Lodge. Victoria was born in Melrose, Manitoba on February 7, 1909, the daughter of Andrzej and Antonia Wazny. Victoria had 11 brothers and sisters and was the last surviving member. Victoria was predeceased by her husband Walter Wazny in 1996, her son Robert Wazny in 1993, and her daughter Jane Wazny in December 2004. She leaves to mourn, her daughter Evelyn (Leon) Prucyk of Libau; her son Eric (Barbara) Wazny; daughter-in-law Myrna Wazny; granddaughter Barbara (James) Bardsley of Neepawa; grandson Brian (Catharine) Prucyk of Milwaukee; granddaughter Karen Wazny; granddaughter Janice (Wazny) Gehman, also great grandsons Mark, Jonathon, Geordan Bardsley, and Andrew Prucyk. Mom and Dad were married in 1931 and settled in Oak Hammock, Manitoba in 1934, where they lived until 1995 before moving to Selkirk, Manitoba. There were hard times and hard work but being around Mom always seemed to make things better. Mom was a genuinely kind, generous, nice, good person and was well liked by anyone who came in contact with her. She enjoyed her 1 1/2 years at Fred Douglas Lodge and always referred to it as her home. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Myron; sons, Jeff (Colleen), Colin (Tereena), Roy (Suzanne), Jim (Rocio); one daughter Chantel Bealieu (David); 12 grandchildren, her brothers Martin of Victoria B.C. and William (Joyce) of Bellingham Washington, and numerous nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her mother, Joyce Caine (Abbott), father, John Caine and sister, Carole Schuster. Margaret graduated as an X-Ray technician from the Edmonton General Hospital in 1959. She spent many years in the practice before her children were born and again once the kids were in school. Margaret began a lifelong love of figure skating at an early age in her flooded backyard and joined the Edmonton Rockerettes Masters Precision Skating Team at age 50. Margaret and her team received many medals for their efforts. Margaret was a caring, loving mother and had many lifelong friendships. She was known by many and loved by all. She will be truly missed. A private service followed by a wake will be held to celebrate Margaret’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grey Nun’s Hospital Palliative Care Centre, Unit 43. Priscilla "Pat" Josephine Morin of Burgaw, NC, formerly of East Hampton, passed away Thursday (March 24, 2005). She was born and raised in Hartford, March 26, 1929. She worked in the health field most of her life; taking care of the elderly and the handicapped. She eventually retired to North Caroline. Besides her husband, Bernard H. Morin, Priscilla is survived by a brother, Edward LaRoe; two sons, Leo Morin and David Todaro; three daughters, Linda Whiteneck, Bernadette Morin and Diane Orlinski; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Maurice N. Simoneau, 73, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of 48 years of Rolande (Thibault) Simoneau, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, (March 29, 2005) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Lewiston, ME, Maurice was a resident of Windsor Locks since 1958. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was employed by Hamilton Standard for 33 years retiring in 1991. Maurice was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Riverside Council # 26 Knights of Columbus and the Gensi-Viola Post # 36 American Legion. Maurice was a caring and devoted husband to Rolande for over 48 years and was a dedicated father and grandfather to his family. He enjoyed bowling as a hobby for many years. Besides his wife Rolande, Maurice is survived by three daughters, Ann Cudebec and her husband John of Stafford, Rita Caldon and her husband Mike of Enfield and Donna Ostrout and her husband Craig of Ellington; two sons, Maurice J. Simoneau and his wife Cathy and Robert Simoneau all of Windsor Locks; seven grandchildren, Carla, Bradford, Kristen, David, Martin, Alyssa and Ryan; a brother, Marcel Simoneau and his wife Julie of Bristol and a sister, Yvette Laliberete of Lewiston, ME. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Simoneau and sister Cecile Lavigne. Family and friends will gather Thursday, 9 a.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, for a funeral procession to St. Mary's Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Bertrand, Arton Anthony "Whip" Arton Anthony "Whip" Bertrand passed away at his residence in Baton Rouge on Monday, March 28, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bertrand was born on Nov. 18, 1934, in Lafayette, and was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and graduated from the LSU School of Banking. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Bertrand was an outstanding athlete, excelling in basketball, football and baseball in high school, and was a pitcher in the minor leagues before an injury ended his baseball career. He was the winning pitcher in the final game of the Class AA state playoffs when Catholic High won the Louisiana state baseball championship in 1953. He also was voted the Outstanding Athlete for the Catholic High School graduating class of 1953. Mr. Bertrand was an avid LSU sports fan, enjoying lively discussions with his friends on this topic, and he also loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Bertrand was preceded in death by his father, Sherlley Joseph Bertrand, and mother, Mae Cecile Mire Bertrand. He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Bertrand Hirschey and her husband, Ken, and Carol Bertrand, all of Baton Rouge; and a brother, John Carl Bertrand and his wife, Chris, of Breaux Bridge. Mr. Bertrand is also survived by three daughters, Suzanne Marie Bertrand, Margaret Mire Bertrand Knotts and her husband, Chris, and Ann Louise Bertrand, all of Baton Rouge; two sons, Michael Pitchford Bertrand and his wife, Beatriz, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Stephen Jeffrey Bertrand and his wife, Darlene, of Bush; as well as nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mr. Bertrand's wishes, his body was donated to the LSU Medical School and a formal funeral service will not be held. However, a memorial service will take place at the CYO gym at the corner of Florida Street and North 22nd Street at 4 p.m. Friday, April 8. Everyone is welcome to attend through this medium. Special thanks are extended by the family to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their wonderful and caring service. HOPSON, Emelene, Peacefully at Henley House on Monday, March 28, 2005, in her 94th year, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late William (1989). Loving mother of Gay (Dennis) Byford, Gary (the late Erica) Hopson, and Penny (Jack) M cCollum. Grandma will be greatly missed by Shari (Glenn) Wade, Holly (Brian) Seburn, Dennis (Lisa) Byford, Kristin (Joe) Siegfried, James (Stella) McCollum, Kinndli McCollum, and Maureen Jagger and by her great-grandchildren Kyle & Megan Wade, Christ opher & Bradley Seburn, Taylor & Justin Byford, Izzy McCollum, Sara Maille and the late Miles McCollum-Siegfried. Emelene was a remarkable woman whose greatest loves were her family and friends. She found joy in nature, sports, baking, gardening and crafts, particularly her pine needle weaving and bridge playing. A woman of strong faith, Emelene was a long-time member of St. Paul St. United Church, a CGIT leader and a member of the UCW. She taught for many years at Lingarden School for developme ntally challenged children and was an active member of the Dunlop Drive and Russell Avenue Seniors' Centres. The family gratefully thanks the staff of Centennial Gardens at Henley House for their wonderful care of Emelene and for their compassionate support of the family in her final days. We would also like to thank Dr. J. Luce for his attentive care of Emelene over the years.
