HOSTRAWSER, Evelyn M. (nee Smart) In loving memory of Evelyn M. (nee Smart) Hostrawser, 91 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Sunday morning, March 27th, 2005 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. She was born in Rathwell, Manitoba and married Carman Eric Hostrawser in 1937 in Winnipeg. Evelyn had lived in Lively for many years before moving into Sudbury where she had been active in the ministries and fellowship at Trinity United Church, presently she was a member of St. Mark's United Church. She had been an avid bowler until 2 years ago and in younger years enjoyed curling. She will be remembered as an excellent cook especially for her delicious pies and butter tarts which she generously shared with family and friends. Beloved wife of Carman Hostrawser predeceased 1987. Loving mother of Joan (husband Robert Lyons) of Sudbury, Robert of Vancouver and William (Barb) of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Donna, Scott, Kimberly, Lindsay, Kevin and Heather and six great-grandchildren. Dear daughter of David and Agnes (Gerver) Smart predeceased. Dear sister of Mary Smart of Rathwell, Doris, Stewart, Ruth Smart and Florence Wilson all of Winnipeg and the late Rachel Litton, David Smart, Robert Smart, Hilda Ransom, Jean Smart, Grace McDonald, Stanley Smart and Jack Smart all predeceased. HANLON, Thomas Francis, Died peacefully at the Linhaven Nursing Home on Saturday, March 26, 2005, after a long illness. Born in Lloydtown, near Schomberg, Ontario in 1925, he served in the Irish Regiment of Canada and the Royal Canadian Artillery at the end of the Second World War and was a Stationary Engineer employed by General Motors in St. Catharines. In retirement he was a founding member of the Old-Time Niagara Fiddler's Association. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his children Adam, Br ent, Jane, Mark and Greg, and his siblings Ann, Mildred, Joan, Jim and Mary. HAYES, Robert T., October 31, 1917 - March 23, 2005, of Orillia, died in Tucson, Arizona, from complications of living life to the fullest. Bob is survived by his wife Enid of 62 years; five daughters: Emme (Gord) Burnet of Port Perry, Adrienne (Bob ) Davies and Pixie (Darin) Burns of Orillia, Merry O'Neill of Burlington and Louise Hayes (Pete Medig) of Jasper, AB; two sons: Charlie (Margaret) Hayes of St. Catharines and John (Leslie) Hayes of Toronto and son-in-law Bill Hewitt of Toronto. Bob w as predeceased by his daughter Diane Hewitt of Toronto. Bob is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Bob will be remembered by the education community in St. Catharines and the province of Ontario as a tremendous innovator, an educational entrepreneur. There are two major innovations that have had a great effect on Ontario high school programs since 1970. First and foremost, when he was Principal, Merritton High School was one of two schools in Ontario to pilot the current credit system. Secondly, as the founding Principal of Governor Simcoe Secondary School, Bob pioneered the semester system as one of two Ontario schools to pilot the program. Bob also felt that students would learn better in unphased or open courses. He was a strong advocate for special needs students, gifted education and the French immersion program. When he retired in 1978, Bob moved to Orillia where he enjoyed gardening at his home, golfing with his friends at Couchiching, playing cards and pool at the Legion and all the social stuff at the Golden K, where he is a past president and regional governor. Bob and Enid loved to travel and have enjoyed winter golf in Tucson for the past 12 years. Bob Hayes was a well respected and beloved mem ber of the community. He lived life right to the end. He was coherent and intelligent with visitors in his home up to an hour before he died. There will be a memorial service in Orillia later on in April. CUMMING, Phyllis Jean - peacefully in Gilmore Lodge, Fort Erie on Monday March 28, 2005. Born October 15, 1925 to Alfred Thomas Miller and Annie Brand (Stoddart). Phyllis will be deeply missed by her sons Gordon (Dawn) and Brian (Jan) and her grandchildren Cassandra, Jason, Derene, Caitlin and Michel. Predeceased by her husband William and brother Ronald. She is survived by her brother Alfred. Phyllis' life was marked by her service to others. Her passion showed in her many activities including golfing, curling and the Crystal Pebble Bonspiel, the Engineers' Wives Association, church work at Rideau Park United Church or her volunteer activities with the Meals on Wheels and canvassing for various charities. SCHENECTADY, NY -- Irvin T. Bud Blanchard died Easter Sunday morning, March 27, 2005 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady. Bud was born on Christmas Day 1921 in Watervliet, N.Y. He was the son of Elsie Schmidt and Irvin T. Blanchard. A proud 1939 graduate of Watervliet High School, he joined the Apprentice Program at GE. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served during World War II on the USS Bosque. Upon leaving the Navy, he went on to get his bachelor's degree at RPI, graduated in 1949. He retired from GE in 1983 after 42 years of service as a mechanical engineer. Bud was a member of many organizations including Toastmasters, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Elfin Society, the Masons, the Shriners, the Helderburg Twirlers, the Happy Hearts Club and both the Scotia and Glenville Rotary. He was a communicant of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and a past Vestry member. His first wife, Helen E. Turner Blanchard died in 1962. His second wife, C. Beverly Blanchard died in 2004. His sister, Helena O'Fee died in 1998. He is survived by his three daughters, Barbara Blanchard and her husband Art Edelstein of Schenectady, Candace Fiet and her husband Jeff of Scotia and Pamela Brown and her husband Michael of Rotterdam; three stepchildren, Michelle Abare Sossei and her husband John of Londonderry, N.H., Edward J. Abare III and his wife Mary of Vero Beach, Fla. and Lori Abare Carmer and her husband Brian of Saratoga. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and eleven nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, March 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, The Plaza, Schenectady, N.Y. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, N.Y. Interment will be at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady. MILLER, Marion Hilda ('Cammie') Passed away peacefully 26 March 2005 in Cumberland, Ontario as she neared age 92. Predeceased by her husband Ralph Stanley Miller. Succeeded by her sons Vernon ('Butch') (Valerie) and family of Ottawa, by Robert (Shirley) and family of Toronto, and by James (Peg) and family of San Diego. Born in England, Marion lived as a child in Ottawa and became a Registered Nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal. She and Ralph married in Montreal and they raised their family there and in Sorel, Quebec. Following Ralph's death, Cammie returned to Montreal and lived there until recently, when she moved to Cumberland to be near her Ottawa-based family. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Very special thanks to Dr. P. L'Heureux, the caring staff of Cumberland Lodge, and all the residents. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a cancer charity of your choice would be appreciated. Succeeded by her sons Vernon ("Butch"), (Valerie) and family of Ottawa; by Robert (Shirley) and family of Toronto; and by James (Peg) and family of San Diego. Born in England, she lived as a child in Ottawa, and became a Registered Nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal. She and Ralph married in Montreal and they raised their family there and in Sorel, Quebec. Following Ralph's death, Cammie returned to Montreal and lived there until recently, when she moved to Cumberland to be near her Ottawa-based family. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Very special thanks to Dr. P. L'Heureux, the caring staff of Cumberland Lodge and all residents. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a cancer charity of your choice would be appreciated. Blanche was preceded in death by Albert Fortin and John Seifried; son-in-law, Jerry Brand; brother, Dave Clark. LOGAN, Geraldine - With great personal dignity, Geraldine Logan was peacefully called to the Lord on March 16, 2005 at her home in Ottawa. Born and raised in Peterborough, she was the eldest child and beloved daughter of the late Albert Edward McCallum and the late Georgina Thibault. As well as her seven sisters and brothers, Hazel, Anne, Mary, Dorothy, Robert, Leo and Henry, she was predeceased by her husband, George (Scotty) Logan. She was a devoted mother to her children, James Wilson, Ronald Albert and Karen Dale. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Peterborough at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2005, with internment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
