Walter G. Devereaux -- 1907 - 2005 -- Walter Greene Devereaux, 97, a retired structural engineer for U.S. Steel, passed on to meet his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, after a brief illness.Funeral: noon Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park Chapel, the Rev. Kevin Lykins presiding. Entombment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: Walter will lie in state Wednesday, with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.Walter was born March 29, 1907, in Dunmore, Pa., the son of Walter John Devereaux and Myrtle Belle Greene.He was a graduate of Penn State University in 1929 and received his master of sciences degree in structural engineering from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Pa.Walter was highly respected in his field and worked on many significant projects, including the Rockefeller Center buildings and the Empire State Building in New York City; the Oakland Bay bridge in California; and the John Hancock building in Chicago. His structural engineering skills were utilized in support of the Allied forces efforts during World War II.In retirement, Walter enjoyed golf, gardening and family activities. He was optimistic and cheerful in nature, although he was an unremitting worrier.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Raymond Devereaux, and his daughter, Marilyn Goulding.Survivors: Wife of 69 years, Marion; sister, Ruth Lowndes; son, Walt and wife, Carol; daughter, Linda Jordan and husband, David; grandson, Wally and wife, Rachel; grandson, Jeff and wife, Tasha; and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Connor. DAIGLE, EDWARD JOSEPH A retired teacher and educator, he passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 91, born Oct. 7, 1913, in Cinclare, West Baton Rouge Parish. He was a former resident of Port Allen and a resident of Baton Rouge. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9. Visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church, 319 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. His entire service was as a member of PATSU 1-2, a U.S. Navy patrol bomber maintenance unit in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he was discharged as an aviation chief electrician mate. Before World War II, he was employed in the chlorine division of the then-Solvay Process Co., now the Formosa plant. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, he returned to employment with the Solvay Process Co. In 1947, he entered LSU while working part-time for the Solvay Process Co. He graduated from LSU in May 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial education and industrial arts education. While at LSU, he was a member of Epsilon Pi Tau, an international honor fraternity, and also Phi Delta Kappa. He received a master of science degree in industrial education in 1955. In September 1950, he started teaching at Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve. In 1956, he moved into the Louisiana Vocational Technical school system in Winnsboro. In 1958, he moved to the Delta Ouachita Vocational School in Monroe. While he lived in Monroe, he was employed by Olin Mathieson Chemical Co. in the paper and forestry division. While at Olin, he was the supervisor of management development and training for employees in the division, with plants scattered from New Orleans to Chicago. In 1972, he returned to the Delta Ouachita Vocational Technical School as a guidance counselor. In 1975, he returned to Baton Rouge as a member of the Trade and Industrial Section of the Vocational Education Department of the Louisiana Department of Education. In 1979, he became the director of the Folkes Vocational Technical School in Jackson from which he retired on June 30, 1986. He is survived by his lovely wife of 65 years, Juanita Himel Daigle; a daughter, Marilyn Harrington and husband Dr. Peter Harrington of New Orleans; a son, David Michael Daigle and wife Debbie Brown Daigle of Monroe; and former son-in-law, Michael Tham of Baton Rouge; a sister, Sister Mary Bernedette, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph de Medaille, residing at the Provincial Home on Mirabeau Avenue in New Orleans; a sister-in-law, Bernice Gatz "Dolly" Daigle; four grandchildren, Cheree and Lauren Tham and Joshua and Jeremiah Daigle; great-granddaughter, Ana Grace Daigle, daughter of Josh and Rachael Daigle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Michael Daigle and Elvey Marie Aucoin Daigle; sister, Berthilde Daigle Coles and husband Wilfred Coles; brothers, John Michael Daigle Jr. and wife Stella Barnes Daigle, Joseph T. They passed away February 4, 2005. Rachael was the daughter of the late Alex and Rose (Lahey) Burke Louisbourg. Rachael was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend. She looked forward to her daily outings with her loving husband, Richard. She enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers, especially tulips. Richard and Rachael held a regular “Saturday Fish Day” at their home that their daughters attended and will cherish forever. Surviving are sisters, Sadie (Glen) McKinnon, Helen (Mike Jeffries), Marie (Brian) Wadden, Lucy, Theresa, Mary, brothers, Fred, Bob, Billy (Diane), Joe, Teddy (Bessie). Besides her parents, Rachael was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Viola, brothers, George and two brothers in infancy. Richard was the son of the late William and Isabel (Warner) Rogers of Kentville and Glace Bay. Richard was a construction worker for several years and retired due to ill health. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and friend. Surviving are sisters, Shirley (George) MacDonald, Lois (John). Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by sister, Marie in infancy, brother, Lawrence. They will be sadly missed by their loving children, Donna (Darrell) King, Betty (Blair) MacNeil – both of Reserve Mines, Lois (Robert) Reid, Kerrie Rogers (Jamie Martin) – both of Glace Bay, Billy (Nancy), Glace Bay, Richard (Sherry), Ontario, Robert and David – both of Reserve Mines, Bruce (Lorna), Ontario. Also surviving are 16 loving grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, which they both adored. They will be sadly missed by all who knew them. Darrell C. Spencer 1927-2005 Darrell Spencer 77, of Salisbury, formerly of Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Sunday, February 6, 2005. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late William and Hallie (Smith) Spencer. Wilfred Cecil Steeves 1935-2005 HILLSBOROUGH, NB - Wilfred Cecil Steeves, 69, of Hillsborough went to be with his Lord on Monday, February 7, 2005. He passed away suddenly at his home. Wilfred was born in Hillsborough on December 31, 1935, the son of the late Curtis and Sadie (Mitton) Steeves. Wilfred was self-employed as a Custom Drywall Finisher. He was known throughout the area for his expertise. Many would say when Wilfred was done doing his drywall, it was just as smooth as glass. He was a founding member of the Victory Bible Baptist Church in Hillsborough where he was very active serving as a Trustee, Usher and former Deacon. He loved spending time with his family and was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Wilfred always had a smile for everyone. He was a very special man who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Catherine (Crossman) Steeves; his three daughters, Brenda Gordon (John) of Riverview; Gloria Steeves of Sussex, Lorna Ralston (Michael) of Italy; his two sons, Ralph Steeves (Tracey) of Riverview, Craig Steeves (Melissa) of Quispamsis; his two sisters, Joyce Smith (Everett) and Glendine White (Herman) both of Hillsborough; half sister, Florence Pleadwell (Fred) of Saint John; half brother, Norman Steeves of Western Canada. He will also be deeply missed by his three precious granddaughters, April Gordon, Erica Steeves and Elizabeth Steeves. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 10, 2005 at 2pm with Rev. Andrew Jardine officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations to the Bible Centered Ministries International, Canada or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Rosemarie (Caron) Snyder, 76, of Somers, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, (February 6, 2005) at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford. Formerly of Hazardville and Enfield, Mrs. Snyder has lived in the area since 1957. She is the former wife of the late Haskell "Hap' Snyder. Born in Springfield, MA, Lucille was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Anna M. (Perreault) Caron. She attended Technical High School, Springfield, and worked in Boston as a telephone operator before she married in 1947. She was office manager of the family business, Snyder Exterminating Service of Enfield for over 25 years. Rosemarie was a loving sister and mother whose life focus was her family. An avid craftsperson and seamstress, she made Teddy Bears for each new addition to her family. She was also an artist who painted in oils. A self-sacrificing woman, she taught her children and grandchildren by her conscious example how to be better parents themselves. She leaves her son: Lee F Snyder and his wife Cheryl of St. Petersburg, FL; her daughters: Diane S. Gasparrini of Somers, Darlene S. Gahr and her husband Mel of Somers, Dawn K. Chapman and her husband Stephen of Erving, MA and Deena K. Rollet and her husband Jack of Suffield. She also leaves her brother, Albert Caron of Springfield and her beloved little sister, Sandra Swift of Wales, MA. There are 14 grandchildren: Christopher and Nathan Snyder, Sarah Smith, Louis Bona, Jr., Michele Harrigan, James Bona, Caron and Jason Gahr, Justin, Jeremy and Adam Varnet, and Anna, Timothy and Maggie Rollet. There are also 12 great grandchildren: Sean Markowski-Bona, Jessica and Christopher Markowski, Cady and Camryn Rose Harrigan, Brandi and Curtis Bona, Savannah Snyder, Ashley Marie Young, Mathena Rossa-Gahr, Mackenzie and Mary-Margaret Diminic. Muriel Beatrice MacMillan (née Burgess) July 11, 1921 - February 02, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) The family is saddened to announce that Muriel passed away peacefully at 4:45 p.m. PST, February 2, 2005, after a long struggle with Alzheimers. Daughter Barbara, grandson Peter and wife Margaret, along with her great-grandchildren Taaryn and Tierra were at her side. Muriel, one on 10 children, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to William and Lillian Burgess, both deceased. She was also predeceased by her husband Peter in 1960 and son William in 1989. Muriel spent most of her life in Halifax, NS. After many years working at the Isaac Walton Children’s Hospital, she retired in 1987. She then moved to New Germany, NS where she resided until 2001, when her daughter Barbara moved her to Duncan, BC following her diagnosis with Alzheimers. Muriel had a great life. She golfed and travelled all over Canada and the US, making many, many friends along the way. Besides her loving daughter Barbara and son-in-law Harvey Brost, Muriel leaves two sisters, Florence Marentette of Comber, ON and Helen Quickfall of Mississauga, ON; brother Gordon Burgess (Joy) of Vancouver, BC; daughters Sandra Laplant (Norman) of Tracadie, NB and Rhoda Scammel of Kingston, ON; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many friends, especially Eric and Greta Dorey of New Germany, NS. The family wish to extend many, many thanks to Dr. Tom Rimmer for the kind and compassionate care of Muriel for the past 4 years; the staff of “C” wing at Cowichan Lodge for the kindness and care for the past 2 years and finally the staff at Cowichan District Hospital 3rd Floor South for the care and compassion to Muriel and family during her final days. George H. Arsenault passed away in Reading on Feb. 5th at the age of 79. George was born and raised in Reading and has been a lifelong resident. Mr. Arsenault was a flooring mechanic with Wayne Anderson Company of Tewksbury for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed summering in Meredith NH for 35 years and golfing at Oak Hill Golf Course in Meredith. George was a WWII Army Veteran. He was the husband of Barbara L. Joanne L.M. “Auntie Jo Jo” Jacques, 63, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Feb. 6, 2005. Joanne was born on Aug. 17, 1941, in Green Bay, to the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Santas) Jacques. She was a 1959 graduate of East High School. She also attended UWGB. She was employed at St. Vincent Hospital for 43 years in food service. She retired on her birthday, Aug. 17, 2004. She also donated blood and platelets at the Red Cross regularly. Funeral services for Louis Landry, 82, of Broaddus, formerly of Silsbee, will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment in Resthaven Cemetery, also in Silsbee. Metta Miller BEAULAC 83, passed away January 26, 2005. Metta was born March 20, 1921 in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and has been a long time resident of the Puget Sound area and a member of St. Louise Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Brian. Metta is survived by daughter Kathryn (Eugene) Kruger; two sons, Brian (Ann Marie) Beaulac and Tom Beaulac; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Joseph, Khristina, Bobby and Brian; great granddaughter Natasha; brother Donald Miller; sister Eleu (Miller) Fraser; along with numerous nieces and nephews. HOLYOKE - Joseph Charles Prunier, 78, of Holyoke died Saturday February 5, 2005 at Holyoke Medical Center. Born in Chicopee he was a life long resident of the area. Joseph graduated from St. Joan of Arc School in Chicopee and joined the Navy during WWII. He worked for the Holyoke Department of Public Works. Joseph was a communicant of Our lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke and a member of the American Legion. He leaves his wife Irene (Lariviere) of 50 years, two sons Michael Prunier of Texas and Paul Prunier of Holyoke, a daughter Donna Prunier of Holyoke, a brother Roger Prunier of New Hampshire, three sisters Bernice Gaudreau and Blanch Plouffe both of New York and Theresa Luker of Fla. Joseph also leaves three grandchildren. A funeral procession will form on Thursday at Brunelle Funeral Home any time between 7:45 and 8:15 am traveling to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for a 9am Mass of Christian Burial. Gauthier, whom she married on July 12, 1981, of Lewiston; two daughters, Julie Smith, and Angela Gauthier, both of Lewiston; two stepsons, Tommy Gauthier, and Todd Gauthier, both of North Carolina; one sister, Gail Jordan and her husband, John, of Turner; eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
