Clinton Bennett, 78 ATHENS -- Clinton Lorne Bennett, 78, of Rocksprings, died suddenly at his home on October 20. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 13, 1926, the son of Adam Bennett and the former Lena McCaughan. His family moved to Canada when he was a young boy. He attended New Dublin and Redan rural schools and Athens High School. As a young man he went west on harvest excursions and worked in lumber camps. Later he drove a moving van for Sniders and then worked as a transport driver from 1951-1966. Then, for 42 years, he worked as a general merchant in the village of Rocksprings. Mr. Bennett married Frances Gunness on July 2, 1949 in Rocksprings United Church. He became a Canadian citizen in 1973. He identified with Addison United Church and was an active member of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 434 Rocksprings for 59 years. He enjoyed gathering firewood, playing euchre and cribbage, and doing jigsaw puzzles - all good therapy after his injuries in the bush and his fall on the ice last winter. Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife Frances, son Daniel Lorne Bennett and wife Diane of Kemptville and daughter Marilyn Ann Irish and husband Fred of Addison, as well as four grandchildren, David and wife Anik, Jenny and her boyfriend Joe Lalonde, Jessica and Rebecca, and one great-grandchild Xander. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Bennett and wife Lorna of Frankville and Dick Bennett and wife Lois of Barrhaven; sisters-in-law Gwen Gunness, Eileen Gilroy, Betty Tarlington, Erma Ferguson and husband Arthur, Elva Dorie and Elvira Clarke, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother Vera Barrington; brother Vernon Bennett and his wife Barbara (who both lived in Richmond); sisters-in-law Elva Clarke and Lula Townsend, and brothers-in-law William, Cecil, Jamie and Ray Gunness, Waldo Gilroy, Jerry Townsend, Howard Tarlington and Jack Clarke. A special Loyal Orange Lodge memorial service was held October 22 at the Judson Funeral Home, Athens. The funeral was held in the Judson chapel on October 23, with Rev. Doug Blair, retired United Church minister, officiating. His son, Danny Bennett, gave the eulogy. Burial followed at Greenbank Cemetery. The pallbearers were Gary and Dale Bennett, Charles Gunness, Fred Tarlington, Ron Townsend and Paul Ferguson. Memorial donations were directed to Addison United Church and other charities of the donors' choice. Ross William McLean 1939 - 2004 Ross William McLean, of Hillsborough Road, Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, November 5, 2004 at the age of 65. Born in Lindsay, ON, he was the son of the late William and Viola (Ryan) McLean. In 1974 Ross and his new wife moved to Riverview. He worked as a lineman for CNR, a custodian for School District 2 and as a taxi driver for White Cab upon retiring. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara (Lewis) McLean; son, Bradley McLean (Stephanie Lively) and their son, Cody of Riverview; sister, Helen Miller of Mississauga, ON; brother, Kenneth McLean (Judy) of Sunderland, ON; brother-in-law, George Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Jim McLean; sister, Shirley Harrison and a niece, Lori Harrison. BAKER, Catherine (Kay) nee Palubeski It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Catherine (Kay) Baker. Kay died peacefully on November 5th, at the age of 82. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry in 1999 whom she was happily married to for 52 years. She will be so greatly missed by her loving children Bob (Bonnie), Bill (Elizabeth), Terri, Judy Ralph (Craig), Harry (Anna), Connie Parlee (Mike). She was predeceased by her son, Jim. Her many grandchildren will also miss her: Melissa, Tiffany, Heather, Amanda, Stephan, Chris, Michelle, Kelly, Alex and Adam. Kay was the eldest of 14 children, who she leaves behind a large extended family who will miss her love, her wisdom and guidance. Her many friends will also miss her warm heart and cheerful smile. Byron Eagles Earl Byron Eagles, 83, of K. E. Spencer Home, Moncton and formerly Monteagle passed away at the home peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2004 following five years of compassionate care while a resident there. Born in Moncton, he was a son of the late Fred and Ina (Taylor) Eagles. Byron was a retired farmer, was a member of Second North River Baptist Church and a former member of the Salisbury Lions Club. He will be remembered as a gentle, quiet man who loved his family and country life. Survived by a son, Reginald, Moncton; grandchildren, Ian Eagles (Sharon), Hanwell, Trevor Eagles, Moncton, Shannon Lewis (Adam Smith), Fredericton; great grandchildren, Jordan, Kirsten and Austin; a sister, Eleanor Goggin, Maine and several nieces and nephews. Marie Jean Connell 1923 - 2004 Marie Jean Connell, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, of ProTem Special Care Home, and formerly of Lester Avenue, Moncton passed away at her residence on Friday, November 5, 2004, at the age of 81. Born in Truro, NS, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Sullivan) Fraser. She began her career as a secretary at Marven's and later, after her children were older, was employed as a switchboard operator at T.A.S. on Alma Street, Moncton. Marie faithfully attended St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church and was an active member of the C.W.L., having held several offices, including President. She was the C.W.L. representative to the Moncton Council of Women and also on the Archidiocesan Council. Other offices Marie held included President of the Ladies Auxillary at St. Patrick's Family Centre, Treasurer and Secretary for the Moncton Lions Senior Citizen's Club, acting Secretary and President with the Moncton East Women's Liberal Association and Recording Secretary for the Ways and Means Committee with the Greater Moncton Women's Liberal Association. In 1993, Marie was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation by the Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn for her contribution to her community, Canada and fellow Canadians. Marie is survived by six daughters, Catherine Leger (Raymond) of Memramcook, NB, Maureen Edgar (Don) of London, ON, Dorothy Zirpolo (John) of BirchRidge, NB, Geraldine Boulay (Georges) of Moncton, NB, Mary Bhagan (Allan) of Lunenburg, NS, and Carolyn Chase (Brian) of Kingston, NS; two sons, William Connell (Gail) and Michael Connell, both of Moncton; as well as 21 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her husband, Gerald; her sister, Dorothy Smith; her brother, Lloyd Fraser; infant brother and infant sister. McCULLUM, EDITH ELIZABETH (ELDER) Edith Elizabeth (Elder) McCullum of White Rapids Manor (formerly of Hoyt) passed away at the Manor on November 6, 2004 at the age of 96. Edith is survived by three daughters Grace Pugh of Fredericton Junction, Florence Cosman (Wesley) of Morna, Elizabeth Byers (Freeman) of Sussex Corner, one son Ronald McCullum (Judy) of Hoyt, one sister Mildred Russell of Taymouth, ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Edith was a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and taught school for several years. She was a member of ACW, WI, LOBA and Hospital Aid and she held numerous offices in these organizations. WASSON, CHARLES A. Charles A. Wasson, November 6th 2004, in his 91st year passed away peacefully at home. Born in Maquipit Lake, NB he was the son of the late George and Blanche (Chapman) Wasson. Charlie's wife and family were the center of his life. His legacy of devotion, love patience and kindness, lives on in the family and friends whose lives have been touched by his gentle spirit. JOHNSON, ROBERT JOSEPH The death of Robert Joseph Johnson husband of Terezinha (Costa) of Mactaquac occurred on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Perth Andover, he was the son of the late Charles and Edith (Francis) Johnson. Robert enjoyed hunting, family life and his church. Robert worked as a counselor helping families of First Nations and giving seminars to First Nations across Canada, the Northwest Territories and Inuvit. He received his Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maine Orono. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Holden and Jason Johnson at home; one daughter, Jessica Johnson at home; Ivan Johnson and his wife Louella of Tobique First Nation, Fred Johnson and his wife Joanne of Riverview, Eldon Johnson and his wife Donna of Ont, Donald Johnson and companion Joanne of Saint John, Frank Johnson and his wife Nancy of St. George, Daryl Johnson and his wife Maple of Newfoundland; three sisters, Audrey Graham and her husband Linn of Utah, Edith Coleman of Washington, Sandra Paul and husband Stewart of Tobique First Nation; several nieces and newphews. Besides his parents he is predeceased by one brother, Herman and one sister, Elizabeth. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, November 9, at York Funeral Home 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. Arlington Dixon Ward SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Arlington Dixon Ward, age 80, of Sackville, occurred at the Drew Nursing Home on Saturday, November 6, 2004. Born in Sackville, he was a son of the late Parlee and Electra (Maxwell) Ward. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Canadian Army in England. Formerly employed with the CP Telegraph, which later became CN/CP, he retired to Sackville. Arlie is survived by a sister, Ada Michailoff, Scarborough, ON; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold and George; sisters, Vivian (in infancy) and Doris McIver. Dear sister-in-law of Anthony Cecutti (partner Vivian), predeceased by Oscar Cecutti (wife Mafalda), Albert Cecutti (wife Alice), Norma Flora (husband Adolfo), Liza Grey (husband Earl), and Rosie Snow (husband Jim). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, and her canine companion Remi. Faith and Family were the center of her life. She enjoyed volunteering at the Red Cross, CWL and Girl Guides. WESTLEY-LAPOINTE, Joan 69 years, peacefully with her family by her side on November 6, 2004. Predeceased by her first husband Howard Westley (1989) and beloved wife of Ray Lapointe. Dear mother of Randy Westley, Debbie Webb and Ian Wilson, Danny and Barb Westley, Susan and Al Heath, Bonnie and Larry Laporte, step mother to Serge and Janice Lapointe, Sue and Doug Rumble, Linda and Larry Rabidoux. Loving grandmother to Michelle, Christine, Lisa, Tom, Sara, Charlie, Melissa, Amanda, Chelsey, David, Westley, Troy, Lauren, Larry, Steven, Jamie, Trevor, Kelly and Ashley and five great-grandchildren. Sister of Lorna and Ken Malott and Jack and Jeanette Pitre. Predeceased by son-in-law Frank Webb. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 8, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m.. The funeral procession leaves Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 9:15 a.m., from the Melady Funeral Home, 572 Notre Dame Street, Belle River (728-1500), to St. William Church, Emeryville, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Joan Westley-Lapointe in the Melady Heritage Forest.
