STEELE, Helen Adelle Peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on November 5, 2004, in her 84th year with her family at her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Hubert Simkins and Ross Steele. Will be lovingly remembered by her children Pat (Sharon) , Laurie, Randy (Diane) and Marianne. Predeceased by daughter Sandy and son Wayne. Annie M. Mossman 1932 - 2004 MIRAMICHI, NB - Mrs. Annie Marcella Mossman, of King Street, Miramichi, passed away at The Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Saturday, November 6, 2004, at the age of 72. Born in New Ross, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Isabella (Graves) MacDow. She was a homemaker and a retired employee of the N.B. Liquor Corp. She was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Miramichi; a member of the A.C.W.; a member of A.T.H.; a former member of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi; as well as a former member of the Ladies Aux., of Branch #3, Royal Canadian Legion; and a volunteer with the Mentally Handicapped at the Lobban House, Miramichi. She is survived by one daughter, Janet Mossman, of Ottawa, ON; two sons, Michael Mossman (Joanne), of Quispamsis, NB, and Allen Mossman, of Moncton; four sisters, Audrey Millett, of New Ross, N.S., Mildred Whynot, of Berwick, N.S., Phyllis Lowe, of Berwick, N.S. and Rose Hayes (Ray), of Colebrook, N.S.; two brothers, Maurice MacDow, of New Ross, N.S. and Cecil MacDow (Ella), of Stellerton, N.S.; four grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Stewart and Stephen Mossman; two sisters, Dorothy MacDow and Nellie Wilie; three brothers, Ira, Gerald and Clifford MacDow. Visiting will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King Street, Miramichi, on Monday only, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Il fait ses études classiques au Collège Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière et ses études théologiques au Grand Séminaire de Québec. Est ordonné prêtre à la basilique de Québec, le 7 juin 1941, par le cardinal J.-M. Rodrigue Villeneuve. En 1941, il est nommé prêtre-auxiliaire au Collège de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière; de 1951 à 1954, vicaire à Saint-Patrice, Rivière-du-Loup; de 1954 à 1958, vicaire à L’Islet; en 1958, vicaire à Sainte-Hélène; de 1959 à 1972, curé de Saint-Athanase; de 1972 à 1986, aumônier à la Maison provinciale des soeurs de l’Enfant-Jésus à Rivière-du-Loup. En 1975, il est aussi nommé animateur suppléant de pastorale à l’Hôtel-Dieu de Rivière-du-Loup; de 1986 à 1995, animateur de pastorale au Foyer Villa Maria de Saint-Alexandre. En 1995, se retire au Collège Sainte-Anne. Depuis 1997, demeure à la Villa Saint-Jean à La Pocatière. VANDER DOELEN, John, It is with great sadness that the families of the late John Vander Doelen announce his passing at the Welland County General Hospital, on November 7, 2004, after a short illness. John was born in Holland in 1924. He leaves behin d his loving wife Anne, daughters Rita (Ron) Wreggitt of Niagara Falls, Diane (Paul) O'Brien of London and son Jack (Rhonda) Vander Doelen, of Welland. Cherished grandfather of Beverlyanna Vander Doelen, Laura and Megan O'Brien, and Matthew, Brian an d Christopher Wreggitt. Growing up in war-torn Holland was not easy and John remembered and was especially thankful, particularly this time of year, of the Canadian soldiers' sacrifices to liberate his country. This was a factor in his immigration to Canada in 1951 with his wife Anne at his side. He loved his adopted country and travelled coast to coast extensively. His lifetime hobby of working with cars helped in forming many long lasting friendships. He worked for (31) years at General Motors in St. Catharines, retiring in 1987. This gave him more time to pursue his love of reading, becoming a regular at the Fonthill Library, with its friendly and helpful staff. Gardening was also a life long hobby. Later on he expanded his horizons by b ecoming computer literate, and spent time surfing the net. He was a longtime member of St. Alexander's Church. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Arthur Herman Roche With great sadness the family announces the passing of Arthur Roche on Saturday, November 6th, 2004. Art passed away at home with his loving wife Phyllis by his side, his son Jonas, grandchildren Darian and Kienan. Art was predeceased by his parents Otto and Veiga Roche, sisters Josie, Margaret and Shirley, brothers Wilfred and William, and his grandson Ian, son-in-law; Alvin Bonkowski, brothers-in-law Halldor Sveinson and Siggi Sveinson; mother and father-in-law Kate and Hughie Monkman; brothers-in-law Tom, Lindsay, Raymond and Eddie Monkman; and sister-in-law Edith Monkman. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years Phyllis, children Darlene (Peter Chartrand), Raymond (Brenda), Debbie (Bruce McKenzie), Dean (Paulette Gislason), Dexter (Wendy), Wanda (Doug Zubriski), Kathy (Darrell Schaak), Karen (Lonnie Olafson) and Jonas (Tanya Jonasson); grandchildren Kelvin and James Porth, Pam (Chris) Juenke, Jason (Jen Nelson), Roxanne (Brian Poole), Sean, Cam, Aubrey, Jennie, Erin, Mark, Natalea, Gage, Raith, Alexa, Darian and Kienan; great-grandchildren Serena, Nate, Jessica, Joshua, Jayden and Owen. He also leaves behind his sisters Ruth (Asgeir Finnsson) and Ottoline, and brothers Victor, Gordon, Harold and Lloyd and many nieces and nephews. Art was born on July 26th, 1924 on the family farm in Hnausa, Manitoba. After serving in World War II as a tank driver/mechanic, he returned to commercial fishing off the shores of Lake Winnipeg at the Granite Quarry Station, where he met Phyllis. They married and later he worked as a mechanic in Winnipeg, Riverton and then Arborg. When his parents left Hnausa, Art moved his family to the original homestead, and it was there he passed away. His homestead was very important to him and he and Phyllis often referred to it as “Rocheville”. Art loved to tinker with small engines and mechanical problems and always managed to find something that needed to be fixed. He also liked to garden and had a large garden for many years. He enjoyed animals and there was always a pet or two in the house, and in later years, many bird feeders outside. Art enjoyed the company of his family and always wanted to be kept up to date on everyone’s activities. The house was always full of people and laughter and we will miss the twinkle in his eye and his wry sense of humour. A memorial service will be held at the Riverton Community Hall on Wednesday, November 10th at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. GORING, H. Marie Peacefully in Sudbury on November 6th in her 89th year. Marie was born in Springdale, Newfoundland and emigrated to Canada and Port Arthur at the age of four with her family. After graduating from Port Arthur Collegiate, Marie travelled to Toronto where she graduated from Nursing at Sick Children's Hospital in 1939. She was then enticed to the Sudbury area to take the position as head nurse in the O.R. at the Copper Cliff Hospital. She met the love of her life Allan in Sudbury and they were married in 1942. Allan predeceased Marie in 1993 after 50 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her beloved son Bill, her parents Pete and Ivy Legrow, brother Ronald (in WWII) and her sister Phyllis. Marie is survived by her sister Doris (Dorie) of Thunder Bay, and by the joys of her life, her son Peter, and his wife Erica Pratt of Toronto, her daughter Jane Young of Sudbury, her son Jim and his wife Marya of New Westminster and her daughter-in-law Barbara Goring-Lennox and her husband Jim Lennox of Alliston. Marie has 10 wonderful grandchildren of whom she has always been very proud, Simon, Sarah, Carly, Derek, Kelly, Emily and Spencer Goring and Harley, Erica and Michael Young. Marie lived a full and active life. She will be missed by all. A reception for friends and family, to honour her life, will be held at the Sudbury Theatre Centre at 170 Shaughnessy Street, on Saturday November 27th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The family has established a bursary at Laurentian University in Marie's honour to which contributions in Marie's memory will be accepted. MacLENNAN, Daniel Conway In loving memory of Daniel Conway MacLennan, 53 years, suddenly in Lucknow, Ontario. Husband, Teacher, gunsmith and step-father. Son of Murdoch and Marion (Conway) MacLennan predeceased. Beloved husband of Marian (Wertz) Case-MacLennan. During his teaching career he taught for the North Shore School Board at Blind River, St. Patrick's in Azilda, St. Frances and St. Thomas in Sudbury and Our Lady of Fatima in Naughton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His grandsons were the love of his life. For the past 5 years he tutored students with learning disabilities. His love and respect for his students was boundless, and he rejoiced in their progress. He was a concerned and loving person and especially enjoyed the times "his kids" came to visit and update him on their accomplishments. McKAY, DOROTHY A. - The death of Dorothy Agnes McKay, of 117 Somerset Street, Saint John, wife of the late Police Chief Harry McKay, occurred on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William James and Kate (Carlin) Earle. Mrs. McKay enjoyed her home and her love of flowers made her an avid gardener. In her younger years, she and her husband Harry enjoyed traveling to various Police functions and Conventions. She will be sadly missed. She is survived by her children, Douglas McKay (Mary) and Shirley McPhee (Wally), both of Saint John; one sister, Dora Neilson of Oromocto; three grandchildren, Cindy Patstone (Chris), Lori Burley (Curtis) and Brad Beach; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter, Barbara Keating in 1990 and one brother, Bill Earle. What a role model she's been for h er family. While her light may have been extinguished, she'll always be there as a beacon to guide us. Born in the Netherlands on November 26, 1906, she was the loving wife of Henry de Laat for almost 45 years until his death in 1978. Predeceased by her daughter Joanne Huibers 1987, sons Harry and Frank 2002 and Adrie 2003, sons-in-law Henry Lamers 1988 and Gerald Hendriks 2003. She was a loving mother of Betsy and Albert Muileboom of Vineland, John and Vera of Jordan, Frances Hendriks of Vinela nd, Albert and Claudia of Seeleys Bay, Nelly and Brooke Leightizer of Iroquois, Bill of Washington, DC, and mother-in-law of Joe and Elenore Huibers of Vineland, Ruth de Laat of Beamsville and Pam de Laat of Grimsby. Loving Oma of 28 grandchildren an d 32 great-grandchildren. Without exception, they all sensed the special privilege of having her as their grandmother and great-grandmother. She in turn loved them deeply and prayed quietly for their success and faithfulness in God. That knowledge wi ll stay with them and nuture them for years to come. She will be remembered for the immense love and warmth she had for her family, for the strong values she instilled in them, for her calm demeanor in times of crisis, for her sharp card-playing ("ri kken") skills, her great cooking ("lekker!"), her long ballads and love of singing, her relentless wit and sense of humour. She was especially devoted to her faith and active in her church. She was a member of the CWL for over 50 years. She loved her life at The Orchards in Vineland and talked fondly of being able to re-join her friends there. Many seniors resist moving into a retirement home ~ but not her, she thrived there. Maria will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
