NORTHRUP, JUDITH "JUDIE" (THOMSON) The death of Judith "Judie" (Thomson) Northrup of Tay Creek, NB, wife of Ron Northrup, occurred on Saturday October 30, 2004 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Bathurst, NB she was the daughter of Margaret (Smith) Thomson of Penniac, NB. Judie was involved with the Maritime Draft Horse Association and was a past member of the C.W.L with St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Stanley, NB. Besides her husband and mother she is survived by two sons, Courtenay (Kandi Gallagher) of Tay Creek, NB and Chris (Michelle) of Stanley NB; one brother William Thomson of Penniac, NB; four grandchildren Jessica Northrup, Bailey Northrup, Alyson Northrup and Morgan Northrup; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Carey Northrup and one sister Beth McDade. Although there will be no visitation upon request of the family, a graveside service will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Tay Creek, NB on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at 2PM with Father Monte Peters officiating. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Harry Storey, Bob Anderson, Brian Brewer and Stan Patterson. CARR, LORETTA M. - The death of Loretta M. Carr of 125 Boyaner Crescent, widow of Willard "The Whiz" Carr, occurred at her residence on Saturday, October 30, 2004, surrounded by loved ones. Loretta was born in Saint John on February 2, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Mabel (Stevenson) Walker. She had spent many years with Willard and the Carrand Stables training race horses and had won the Maritime Powder Puff Derby. She had also worked at the canteen at the Simonds Arena, at Budget Rent A Car, and at the Simonds Co-op. She had been a volunteer at the East Saint John Food Bank, the Ladies Auxilliary Saint John Regional Hospital, U.C.W. Silver Falls United Church, the Canada Games, Festival by the Sea, Silver Falls Scouting, and East Saint John Minor Basketball. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Willis and Arnold Walker. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia of Saint John, and Cheryl (Gerald) of Niagara Falls; two sons, Eugene (Dorothy) of Ridgeway, Ont., and Blair (Joan) of Nauwigewauk; three brothers, Douglas (Shirley) of Gardner Creek, Hazen (Susan) of Gardner Creek, and Edward (Phyllis) of Saint John; four sisters, Zeversa (James) Godfrey of Saint John, Lois Boyle of Niagara Falls, Evelyn Ramsay of Gagetown, and June (Joe) Wilband of Cambridge Narrows; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. STEVENS, FLORENCE ANNA - At Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B. on Saturday, October 30, 2004. The death of Florence Anna (McGuire) Stevens, widow of Kenneth Albert Stevens of St. Stephen, N.B. She was born in RollingDam, N.B. May 24, 1920, daughter of the late Henry Earl and Annie Odessa (MacAffee) McGuire. Florence is survived by one son, five daughters, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, one sister and her husband and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two sisters and two brothers. Florence held nothing more dearly, than the joy of raising her family. Cherished were reflections of her family heritage, the Grist Mill, Lumber Mill and making Maple Syrup. Somehow she balanced family life with employment at Lonicera Hall and Ganong Brothers. Resting at the S.O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home Ltd. 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. Catherine Goguen 1919 - 2004 CAP-PELÉ, NB - A l'Hpital Dr. Georges-L.Dumont à Moncton, le samedi 30 octobre 2004, à l'~ge de 84 ans, est décédée Catherine Goguen, domiciliée à la Manoire au Bute à Cap-Pelé mais autrefois de St-André LeBlanc. Née à Grande-Digue, le 23 décembre 1919, elle était fille de feu Eric Leger et de feu Béatrice Belliveau. Avant sa retraite elle était enseignante pendant 35 ans avec le district # 13 à Notre-Dame, Grande-Digue, Cormier Village, St-André et à Cap Pelé. Christine Wojciechowski (née Bakos) February 14, 1921 - October 30, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Christine (Bakos) Wojciechowski, age 83, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, October 30th, 2004, following a brief illness. Christine was a resident of Roseview Manor and a former long time resident of Forest Street. She was born February 14th, 1921 in Slovakia and moved to Fort William as a young girl. Christine married John Wojciechowski in 1940 and shortly thereafter they built their family home (Fort Street) Forest Street where everyone was always welcome. She lived there for more then fifty years. Christine was a very hard worker and loved to cook, garden and fish. Christine’s family was very important to her, and she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Christine is survived by her daughter Pauline Mills (Glen) and their children Cindy (Glenn) Merrill and Karen (Scott) Murray, son John (Donna) and their children, Sherri Johnson (Derek) and Wendy Javor (Zdravko), son Frank (Jean) and their children Bonnie Lubby (David), Dan Haney (Heather) San Diego, USA and Jack Haney, San Diego, USA. Christine is also survived by her sister Mary Bakos and brother John Bakos, numerous great grandchildren and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1982, her parents Frank and Anna Bakos, grandson Jeffrey Wojciechowski as well as a number of in-laws. The family would like to thank the staff of Roseview Manor for the excellent care, which they gave to our mother during the past year. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for making her comfortable during her last few days. A very special thank you to Dr. Adams for being so kind and understanding to our mother over the past twenty-five years. Alexander Hintz January 04, 1913 - October 30, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home HINTZ, Alexander Alexander Hintz passed away after a brief illness on October 30, 2004 at the Misericordia Hospital. He was born in Edmonton on January 4, 1913 and moved to the family farm by Hay Lakes AB, where he lived until he wed Lydia Knopp in 1940. He worked for Muttart Lumber until his retirement in 1977. He served overseas for four years purifying and hauling fresh water for the soldiers. He had a deep love of music and played several instruments and had many fond memories of dances where he played. He was predeceased by his parents and infant son, Harvey and brother, Carl. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 64 years, Lydia; daughter, Marge Suddards (Jack); son, Brian Hintz of Calgary; and daughter, Donna Sandberg (Laurie) of Red Deer; grandchildren, Allan Suddards of Red Deer, Laurie Andrews (Wayne) of Calgary, Kristen Hintz, Jonathan Hintz of Calgary and Christy Sandberg and fiancé Nathan Trescher of North Bay ON, and Leanne Schell (Andrew) of Kingston ON; and great-grandchildren, Ian and Emma Andrews of Calgary. Christina McDonald Martin (née Sutherland) June 22, 1914 - October 30, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on October 30, 2004 at the Riverview Health Centre, Chrissie passed away at the age of 90 years. Left to cherish her memory are her nephews and nieces William Sutherland (Arlene), Alice Palmer (Gordon), Janet Bodner (Bruce), Stewart Martin (Donna), Carol Heiling-Maradyn (Nick). and numerous great nieces and nephews Chrissie was predeceased by Cam, her husband of 36 years in 1982, brothers Benjamin and William, infant sister Elizabeth, sisters-in law Helen and Lillian Sutherland and brother-in-law Stewart Martin. She was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 22, 1914 moving to Winnipeg with her family in 1920. She went to school in Winnipeg, graduating from St. John’s High school before entering the Normal School for teacher training. Chrissie taught in several schools in the Winnipeg division, mostly at Greenway school before leaving the teaching profession to marry her friend and colleague Cam. In her younger days Chrissie was highly competitive as both a curler and a bowler winning numerous awards in top level competition. She completed her final year of league bowling with the River Heights Ladies in May of 2003. Chrissie had lived on Borebank Street for over 40 years before moving to Rosewood Village at The Waverley and lastly to the Riverview Health Centre. The family thanks the staff of these homes for the kind and compassionate care they gave to our Aunt. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Reception and interment will follow. Marcelia Robinson (née Thorkelsson) March 07, 1907 - October 30, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home “Auntie Marcy” passed away peacefully at the Poseidon Care Centre after a prolonged illness. She was predeceased by three sisters, Fjola Mack of Los Angeles, Rae Flint of San Jose, and Sarah Thorkelsson of Winnipeg; three brothers, Stefan Olafson of Riverton, Paul Thorkelsson of Victoria, BC, and Thorkel (Monty) Thorkelsson of Minneapolis. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Marcelia was born in Winnipeg to Johanna Maria Fredricksdottor and Soffinias Thorkelsson. She lived and worked in Winnipeg all of her life. “Auntie Marcy” had a bout of infantile paralysis as a toddler and she suffered from the effects of this illness all her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Personal Care Home for many years of care and compassion. Marcelia was an animal lover (especially cats). She was the eighteenth of nineteen children born to Christian and Christina Bertsch. Her family moved to the Carbon area in 1929 where they farmed. Laurene attended the Humbolt School and Zion Baptist Church. She accepted Christ at an early age and was later baptized on her brother-in-law Art Forsch's property. In 1947 she moved with her mother and 3 siblings to Drumheller where soon after they began attending First Regular (now Fellowship) Baptist Church. In 1951 she married Roy Blehm and they had four sons together, but Roy died in 1962. In 1964 Laurene married Lawrence Black and gained a daughter, Faith. Laurene is survived by her husband Lawrence, one daughter and son-in-law Faith and Harry Wilnechenko of Red Deer, and four sons and daughters-in-law: Lyle and Gwen of Edmonton, Dwain and Diane of Winfield, BC, Rod and Donna of Three Hills, and Neal and June of Campbell River. She has 16 grandchildren: Yvonne (Syd), Lynne, Heather, Shawna, Darryl (Carolyn), Vicki, Kevin (Myriam), Michelle (Ryan), Christina, Shane, Stephen, Cameron, Emma, Graham, Stephanie and Mindy; and four great-grandchildren: Amber, Ashley, Isaac and Caileb. She is also survived by her sisters Esther Bertsch, Tillie Siebel and Irene Bertsch. On October 20, 2004 Laurene Black passed away and went home to be with her Lord. Jensen: Ove Albert 1917 - 2004 Ove Albert Jensen of Drumheller passed away peacefully on October 7, 2004 at the Drumheller Hospital with his family at his side. He was born in Kimballton, Iowa in 1917, and came with his family by rail to Wayne, Alberta in 1927. Ove lived and farmed in the Dalum area until 2000 when he and Edie retired to Drumheller. Among other loved family members, Ove was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Anna Jensen, his daughter Lynne Ellen Wright, his brother Arild Jensen, and sisters-in-Iaw Glenys Jensen and Marie Jensen. He is missed and loved by his wife of 60 years, Edie; his siblings Herluf Jensen and Gerda (Folmer) Rasmussen; his children Joan Reiffenstein (Laurie), Susan Brown (Carson), and Albert Jensen (Cindy); his granddaughters Julie (Jim), Katherine, Lisa (Damian), and Micalah; his grandsons Warren, Colin, Logan and Spencer; his great-grandson Owen and his nieces and nephews. A funeral service celebrating Ove's life will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dalum on Wednesday, October 13, at 2:00 PM. Montgomery : Murray Murdoch 1923-2004 Murray Murdoch Montgomery, of Rosedale, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2004 with his loving wife, Elene by his side. Murray was born on August 30, 1923 in a stone house (now a historical site) built by his father in the Mount Ptolemy district of Victoria, BC. He was the fourth of five children. Being a stonemason, his Dad took his family wherever he had work to do. In 1926, Murray?s family moved back to Ontario. Here, his dad's work took them to London, Hamilton and Toronto areas where he worked on many of the churches and government buildings. He was also at Niagara Falls where the stone wall still stands. Like his father, Murray made his living with his hands ? but his tools were paints and palette. Many of his paintings are in private collections throughout the world. In later years, he opened the Drumheller Art Gallery where as well as showing art works, he sold art supplies, books and did framing. Sometimes it was a meeting place for young and old to enjoy good conversation and friendly arguments. He also shared his talent with others and taught many Drumheller area people how to paint. At age 17, Murray joined the Canadian Fusiliers. He took training in Vernon and Vancouver, after which he was posted to Aleutian Islands at Attu. When he arrived there, the Japanese had just left, leaving behind comfortable caves with matted floors, still stocked with food, rice oil and sake in niches carved out of the walls. These were great shelters from the howling North Pacific winds. When he came back to Toronto, he joined the Queen's Own Rifles as a Rifleman. He soon found himself in England and later on D-Day plus one, landed on the Normandy beaches. From France, he fought through Belgium, Holland and Germany. During this time, he began exchanging letters with a young woman named Elene Madsen. Soon after he came back to Canada, they were married. They traveled to British Columbia where Elene had a teaching position, but ended up in the Drumheller Valley, first to East Coulee and finally to Rosedale where they set their roots. Murray enjoyed traveling and there were many a weekend when they would pack up their VW van and later, their camper and explored small town British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. He and Elene learned much about the area by visiting coffee shops and talking to the locals. He also enjoyed fishing, whether to local lakes or to Fort Frances, Ontario to a long-time friend?s cottage where they would catch walleye right off the dock and eat fresh fish for supper. His love for travel and discovery also took them to Chicago, Toronto, Mesa, Vancouver and Victoria. He and Elene toured the Alaska Highway with Chris and Karen Ostergard one summer and the next traveled to Yellowknife with Eleanora and Bill Vogt and friends. He also flew to Turkey with Jimmy Berlando, Mike Salvador and Frank Bernardo. He enjoyed watching birds and the bird feeder provided him with much entertainment as chickadees, nuthatches, finches and the odd blue jay fluttered and chattered over seeds and nuts. Murray leaves to mourn his loving wife of 56 years, Elene, his son Loren, daughter-in-law, Janice, and precious granddaughter Jenna; brother Bill and Mira Montgomery, and nephew Jamie and Chizuru Montgomery and Sean; sister Ruth Haas; in-laws Bob and Edesse Madsen, Bill and Eleanora Vogt and nephews and nieces, Grant and Echo Vogt, Tiger and Errol, Lisa and Amber; Greg and Elaine Vogt, Hillary and Colleen; Terry and Pam Vogt, Sheena and Kyle; Suzanne and Darren McIntosh, Samara and Nikki; and Sheryl and Edward Loman, Justin, Jocelyn and Luke and many other relatives and friends. The night Murray passed away, the Northern Lights danced in the sky, and the stars twinkled brightly. We like to think his soul was guided by that wondrous celestial show. Richardson, Tim It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Tim Richardson . Tim passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at home on Thursday October 28, 2004. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald Lockhart on October 29, 2004. Born in Forest Home, he was a son of the late Joseph and Nora (Keddy) Lockhart. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen (Brown) Lockhart in May 2004. Don was employed for many years by Hermes Electronics. He was a proud veteran of the Second World War, West Nova Scotia Regiment, Signal Corp, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Calais Branch No. 162, Lower Sackville. He was instrumental in organizing a program where veterans spoke to school children in Sackville about the importance of Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made for our freedom. Don was a member of Knox United Church and was very active in the community of Lower Sackville. He was a member of the 50+ Club, Silver and Gold, Sackville Sports Stadium, Memory Club and the Order of the Knife. He was a past volunteer with the Sackville Volunteer Fire Department, Meals on Wheels and was a host of the Seniors in Action television program. Don was also active in his home community of Forest Home, where he helped organize the restoration of the Blue Mountain Cemetery. He is survived by his sister, Leila Wegener, Halifax; daughters, Barbara (Kenneth) Dalrymple, Grafton, Kings Co.; Jane, Winnipeg; son, Allen (Kathy), Lower Sackville. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Ian) Tramble, Angela Dalrymple, Pamela (Bruce) Langille, Amy (Aaron) Campbell, Alex, Greg and Mark Lockhart; great-grandchildren, Logan and Claire Tramble and Joshua Langille. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Lockhart. Leonhardt: Victor On October 29, 2004 Victor Leonhardt of Westerose, Alberta passed away at the age of 91 years. Victor was born and raised at Drumheller, Alberta the son of Jacob and Marie Leonhardt. After the passing of his father, he and his brothers operated the family homestead which Victor later purchased and farmed until 1963. Victor also operated a small strip mining operation and sold coal to residents in Drumheller. He married Elsie Schmeelke of Champion in November 1942 and they were blessed with seven children. At the close of World War II Victor acquired several Anson trainer aircraft from War Assets and eventually he and his brother August each acquired a Lancaster Bomber. Victor?s Lancaster was stripped of engines and numerous parts but the Lancaster remained a noted landmark in the community. Over the years Victor purchased additional land and expanded his farm. He also purchased undeveloped land in Sundre, Caroline, Rocky Mountain House and Buck Lake areas. While on one of these land buying trips he became aware of some lakefront property at Pigeon Lake. He acquired this land and created plans for developing resort properties. Victor sold the farm in 1963 and moved his family with the old Lancaster in tow to Pigeon Lake to pursue his dream of developing this land. In the years to follow Victor became preoccupied with the farming operations and sporadically worked at developing the resort land. It wasn't until he and Elsie sold the lake front property that they actually saw the realization of his dream. After the passing of Elsie in November, 2001 Victor moved to Luther Manor in Wetaskiwin. With his health failing as a result of prostate cancer and after suffering a broken hip in May 2004 he remained in Wetaskiwin General Hospital until his passing. He is survived by his loving family; children Ernie (Laurie) of Westerose, Don (Gloria) of Westerose, Rosemarie (Larry) Creighton of Calgary, Murray (Marie) of Wetaskiwin, Allan (Betty) of Calgary, Gary (Marilyn) of Calgary, Kevin (Cindy) of Westerose; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Jacob (Margaret) of Drumheller, Walter of Calgary and by his sister, Amelia Walker of Drumheller. Victor was predeceased by his wife, Elsie; parents, Jacob and Marie; five brothers and two sisters. Memorial service was held at Baker Funeral Chapel, 5302-50 Avenue, Wetaskiwin on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor John Cline Officiating. MANGAN, "PAT" JOHN J. 1920-2004 Pat passed on at Timmins Extendicare Nursing Home in Schumacher on Sunday, October 31, 2004. Pat was at home with his loving wife and family until his last three days. Loving husband of Norine (nee Dyer) since 1942. Dear father of Jane and Nancy both of Timmins. Brother of Michael (Constance) of Guelph. Predeceased by his mother Elizabeth (nee Burke) and his father Clarence Mangan. Brother in-law of the late Charlie (Sal) of Stoney Creek, Albert Dyer (Jeannette) of Stratford, Floyd (Ruth) of Matheson and the late Enid (Herman) and Patricia. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Pat and Norine married, raised their family and worked in Timmins. Pat is well-known in the mining industry for his 29 years with Delnite Mines as Office Manager/Superintendent/Purchasing Agent and he phased out Delnite when they closed which led him into his hobby full time: prospecting/mining. He and his father in-law staked the claims and Pat brought into production Hedman Resources Limited. Pat is well-known throughout the world for his pioneer work and his knowledge of "Hedmanite", an industrial mineral, which was a replacement for asbestos. Pat retired from Hedman after putting in over 40 years of dedicated service. And of course, behind every good man there is a good woman supporting and pitching in, which Norine did. Pat has been a member of many organizations, mainly in mining and held some of them as lifetime memberships. You may wish to donate in his memory to the: Porcupine Miner‚s Memorial Committee, Box 354, Timmins, Ont., P4N 7E2 or to the Ontario Prospectors Association, 1000 Alloy Drive, Thunder Bay, Ont., P7B 6A5 or your remembrance donations may be made through the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home. Chambers: Margaret Jeanette May 13, 1920 - October 22, 2004 Margaret Jeanette Chambers passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Hospital on October 22, 2004 at the age of 84 years. She was born on May 13, 1920 in Drumheller and lived her whole life in Verdant Valley, Drumheller and Morrin districts. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1988. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons and two daughters: Mick (Margaret) of Morrin, Jeanette Sutherland (Jim) of Altanta Georgia, Carol Kashuba (Stephen) of Rumsey, Bob (Cathy) of Morrin and Dennis (Debbie) of San Diego, California. She was dearly loved by her 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Diprose (Bob) of Stettler, Alberta, one brother Dean Wallace (Lois) of Vancouver, BC and in-laws Dorothy Hetherington of Munson, Evelyn Hampton of Red Deer, Phyllis Dolezsar of Langley, BC, Dolline Good of Calgary and Darrel Chambers (Rose) of Duncan BC and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Morrin Community Hall at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 27, 2004. If so desired, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Sunshine Lodge. Dufloth: Barbara March 1, 1917 - October 23, 2004 With great sadness we share the loss of our mother. Barbara Dufloth daughter of the late Henry and Rosina Holwegner, was born in Etzikom, Alberta. March 1, 1917. She passed away peacefully with her family and Pastor Plant at her side October 23, 2004, 12:30 am in the Drumheller Regional Health Complex. Mother was predeceased by her husband Ted Dufloth and her daughter Violet Wattenbarger. In loving memory she will be missed by three sons and one daughter.
