James G. Dargavel SAINT JOHN, NB - Surrounded by a loving family and close friends, James G. Dargavel (Jim) passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 7, 2004. Born in Molus River, NB, to Lyle and Agnes (Gaylor) Dargavel, he spent his early adult life in the army, moved to Saint John in 1969, married Joan and raised a family. He worked as a mechanic at Woolco, for the City of Saint John and then at Parkway Ford until he retired due to illness. For those who knew him, he was not one to sit still for very long and was involved in many volunteer activities over the years. When Jim had something to sell, nobody could refuse him. He helped form the East Suburban Little League and coached that as well as hockey. He was a foster parent. Jim was president of the Schizophrenia Society and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Council 8364. He was a major fundraiser in the early days of Play Ball for St. Joseph's and in his later years, he did what he could to support the Canadian Diabetes Association. He gave one hundred and fifty percent to everything he did, including his battle with Kidney Disease and the many complications over the last few years. His strength of character and strong belief in his faith consoled him and kept him going through the difficult times. He was predeceased by his parents, Lyle and Agnes; his sisters, Winnie, Pat and Blanche; a brother, Lee; as well as his daughter, Patricia. He will be sadly missed by many, especially by his loving wife, Joan (Murphy); his children, Dana, Terry (Sandy), Raymond Landry (Rachel), Doug Landry (David), Beth and Michael, Linette Lawley (Paul); daughter-in-law Iris Dargavel; grandchildren, Jamie, Jolene, Tera, Jessica, Meghan, Katlyn, Nathaniel, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, and Janessa; Great Granddaughter, Kiera. Special friends close to Jim and Joan include Cecile and Dave Wheaton, Jack and Theresa Dunlop, Roly and Phyllis McIntyre, Kenny and Velma White, Joanne and Brian Boudreau and Gary Dunn. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424) with visitation on Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim's Church on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 10:00am. Graveside prayers and Interment will take place in St. Bartholomew's Cemetery, Molus River, NB on the same day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Association, Schizophrenia Society or to the charity of the donor's choice. Passed away at the Mississauaga Life Care Centre on Tuesday October 5th, 2004, in her 95th year. Marjorie Hare formerly of Jennings Lodge, Penetanguishene. Beloved wife of the late John MacDonald. Mother of the late Joel MacDonald. Loving grandmother of Will (Pat), Rob, Rick (Debbie) and Kevin. Great grandmother of Sean and Chris. Daughter of the late Robert and Minnie Strong. Mother in law of Tamara (Tommy) MacDonald. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Kaitlyn was a member of the Cole Harbour Sparks and enjoyed ballet, swimming and listening to her music. She loved coloring, reading books and playing with her brother and friends. Charles Leronowich September 18, 1924 - October 06, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully, at home on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, Charles Leronowich, age 80 passed away. Charles was predeceased by his mother and father; sisters, Emily and Jean and brothers, Walter and Teddy. Charles will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Alma; children, Shirley (Bob) Hildebrand of Brandon, David (Betty) and Donna (Murray) Hewitt; grandchildren, Michael Hildebrand (Charlene) of Portage La Prairie, Jody (David) Chopp of Calgary, Barbara (Tim) Maguire of Calgary, Jason Leronowich, Paul Hewitt and Lori Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Colton, Ashton, Emily, Dominik, Katerina, Natalia, Kayla and Travis. He is also survived by his siblings, Joe of Detroit, Stan and Barney of Brandon, Cecil of Red Deer and Adella Barnick of Fort Frances and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Charles was born on September 18, 1924 in Brandon. He and Alma were married in Brandon and raised their family there, moving to Winnipeg in 1966. Charles retired in 1984 after 33 years as a carman for the CP Rail. Since his retirement he enjoyed volunteering his time with CPAC Seniors and was actively involved as President for several years, and Chairman of the Gull Lake Resort for eight years. He was a life member of the CPAC and was presented with a merit award for his dedicated committment to the club. Charles was also a 40 year member of the Brandon Legion. He was a member of the St. Johns Cantius Church since coming to Winnipeg. Family events were very important to Dad. His children and grandchildren remember many good times and stories shared with him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church. Interment and reception will follow. MOORE, DELBERT L. - The death of Delbert L. Moore of St. Martins, husband of the late Anna (Bridges) Moore occurred October 7, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born at Alma, son of the late John and Florence (Norris) Moore. Delbert was employed at Saint John Iron Works for twenty years and in 1963 worked for ten years at the First National Bank of Boston before retiring in St. Martins. Delbert was a former Councilor and Mayor of St. Martins. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, St. Martins, the Orange Lodge, and the Pythian Lodge and was a driver for the Volunteer Centre in Saint John. Delbert was the last surviving member of his family. He is survived by daughter Florence Moore of Saint John; daughter-in-law Adria Moore of St. Martins; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons Winston and Daryl Moore. The arrangements have been entrusted to Reid's Funeral Home, Hampton. Visitation will be at Fundy Funeral Home, Saint John, Friday, 2-4pm and 7-9pm and at Holy Trinity Church, St. Martins, Saturday, from 1pm - 2pm. WILFRED BATISSE Batisse - The Batisse Family announces with sorrow the death of Mr. Wilfred Batisse of Matachewan at the age of 76 years. Mr. Batisse passed away at the Kirkland District Hospital on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. Wilfred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed living at the Matachewan First Nation. He will be remembered for his love of life and good humour. Eva WAHL - July 01, 1948 - May 21, 2004 - passed away peacefully on May 21, 2004 in Saanich, BC. Loving wife, mother, daughter and friend, she is survived by husband Ernest, children Brita, Robert and Karen and parents Emil and Loni Simani. Born July 1, 1948 in Stuttgart, Germany, Eva was raised in Canada, living at various times in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Victoria. A McGill graduate (B.A. ’69, Dip. Ed. ’70), she was a committed teacher, photographer, skier and nature enthusiast. Eva enjoyed gardens, art galleries and interior design, but most of all, she loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Annie Louise Romans (née Smith) - August 10, 1913 - May 13, 2004 - 90 yrs, Hammonds Plains, passed away peacefully in Parkstone Enhanced Care on Thursday, May 13, 2004. Born in Hammonds Plains, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Swindells) Smith. She attended Baptist Church when she was able and she spent her days looking after her family. Surviving are her daughters, Joan Logan, Middle Sackville; Margaret Rose (James) Grandy, Hammonds Plains; son, Ralph (Janet) Romans, Carleton Place, Ont.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren. Annie was predeceased by her husband, Orman; sister, Floris Manuel. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, with funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, Rev. Bill Woodworth officiating. Everett Arthur Steeves - April 13, 1931 - May 22, 2004 - passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on May 22, 2004, after a lengthy illness. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Mayme Steeves-Woodman and step-father Harold Woodman and also loving husband to Dorothy (Rutherford) Steeves, his beloved wife of nearly 50 years. Everett worked for Transport Canada in the Construction Division for 34 years. He was a member of the congregation, part of the Board of Stewards & Trustees and Past Treasurer, of the Lakeburn United Church. He also was a Leader with The Boy Scouts for a number of years. Everett’s passion was for his family and he had two great loves; his grandchildren and his horses. What started with two ponies and a shed grew to a multitude and a barn. Everett loved showing his horses at various County Fairs and could often be found in the woods cutting and hauling wood with his sons and his team. Always one to give freely of his time, he brought his ponies to parties and special community events for lots of children to enjoy. Memories of Everett will be treasured and he will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. Besides his wife “Dot”, he is survived by his sons Kevin (Diane), Dieppe, NB, William “Billy” (Catherine Landry-Steeves), Calhoun, NB and Roger (Sandra), Greater Lakeburn, NB., his only daughter Cathy Steeves, Saint John, NB., his sister Marguerite Underwood, Kentville, NS., his uncle Lionel (Connie) Steeves, Catamount Road, NB., his grandchildren Brian, Mark, Christine, Jacob, David, Brett, Kylin and Shelly, as well as, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Sylvia Stadey (née Jensen) - June 28, 1934 - May 27, 2004 - aged 69 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, May 27, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospice with her family at her side. Born in Scoble Township, the daughter of Marie and Ivar Jensen. Sylvia received her education in Scoble Township as well. Prior to her marriage, she was employed with Brown's in English River and later at Henderson's Cab Company in Port Arthur as a dispatcher. She married Thomas Stadey on January 21, 1956 in Port Arthur. Sylvia's main interests were her family, friends and grandchildren. Survived by husband Thomas, at home, sons Grant (Debbie) and Sean (Linda) and daughters Lynne (Rick) Yawney and Cheryl (Dan) Calvert. Also survived by grandchildren Kristina, David, Danny, Tommy and Eric, sister Kamma (Kay) (George) Whitefield, brother-in-law Morris Greshuk and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, sister Flora Greshuk and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wesley and Isobel Stadey. Florence Mary Ann Stemper (Button) - passed away at the Regina Pasqua Hospital after a brief illness with cancer on May 27, 2004. Florence was predeceased by her wonderful, loving husband, Henry; her father, Harold; and sister, Margaret Rose. Florence is survived by her daughter, Cathy; son-in-law, Steve; mother, Martha; brothers, Fred (Pat), Gerald (Grace), and David (Myrna); and sister, Edith (Tom). Florence was especially proud of her grandson, Sean whom she loved dearly. Florence graduated from the Grey Nuns Hospital and nursed for forty years, first in the emergency department then at Parkside Nursing Home. She will be remembered as a dedicated nurse who was respected by all who worked with her. Steve Turko - April 20, 1923 - May 13, 2004 - With the wind at his back and the sun in his face Steve charted a new course toward the stars. With family at his side he slipped peacefully away in pursuit of the ultimate adventure. Born in Alonsa, Manitoba on Easter Sunday, Steve spent his early years learning a work ethic that stayed with him all his life. Throughout his early life he took on different forms of employment doing the best job that he could. Moving to Winnipeg and into hotel management, let him touch many different lives. His spirit of adventure led him to horse racing at Assiniboina Downs, creating memories and sharing his enthusiastic approach to life with his many friends. In his later years when most people would be slowing down he managed to win a curling trophy at 75 years of age. The legacy of memories are shared by wife (Annette); son Earl (Gayle), daughter Darcie Norton, R.N. (Dan); granddaughter Hilary, grandson Cole, his dog Max and remaining family. Services will be held on Monday, May 17, at 1:00 pm at St. Basil the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Ave. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

GREEN, MARGARET DOROTHY (PEACHES) - The death of Margaret Dorothy (Peaches) Green of 256 Winnipeg Crescent, Miramichi, NB occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 3, 2004 at the age of 78. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Leo and Fredericka (Matson) McGobvern. Margaret was a retired caregiver and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br # 3, Chatham, NB. Margaret is survived by one daughter: Colleen Hanscom of Kelowna BC, four sons: Gary of Ottawa, Derek (Cathleen) of Nelson Miramichi, NB; Shaun (Yvonne) of Brooks, AB; and Ryan (Andrea) of Saint John, NB, one brother Joe of California and three grandchildren, Christopher, Devon and Conor and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by daughter Lenora, two sisters: Audrey and Eckie and one brother: Bill.
