HARGRAVES, Stephen George 22 years, suddenly on June 19, 2004. Beloved and most cherished son of Flo and George of Tecumseh. Special brother to Kelly and husband Rob Shapiro of Los Angeles, Kristen and husband PL Meindertsma of Abbotsford, BC, Heather and fiance Jeremy Pollock of Windsor, and twin sister Lauren and friend Luke Territ of Vancouver, BC. One of a kind uncle to nieces Keaton and Ruby Shapiro and nephew Maijken Meindertsma. Grandson to Arthur Anger and the late Irene (1984) of Chatham, and Peggy Hargraves and the late Keelan (2002) of Sault Ste. Marie. Godson of David and Gail DePodesta of Troy, MI. Dear nephew to Kathleen Perrault and the late Gordon (2002), Franklin Hargraves, Peter Hargraves and wife Sheila. Stephen also leaves his best and dearest friend Chris Highton (our second son) and special friends Tyler, Jay, Matt, Miranda, Nick, Sarah and Renda. Stephen touched the lives of so many with his outgoing and giving ways that it is impossible to name everyone. He will be deeply missed by many friends and co-workers. Stephen was employed at Tool Tec Welding Inc. Special thank you to Pat for giving Stephen the opportunity to excel and be proud of his accomplishments. His love and zest for life will remain with us always. Middleton, Hugh Morton In loving memory of Hugh Morton Middleton, 93 years, who passed away Saturday morning, June 19, 2004 at the Extendicare York. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Barbe) Middleton predeceased 1996. Loving father of Jim (wife Diane) of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Scott of Sudbury, Tim (fiancee Lisa) of Brockville and great granddaughter Karissa. Dear brother of James (wife Dorothy) of Scotland. Sadly missed by nieces Patricia and Anne. Born in Rutherglen, Scotland, he married Elizabeth in Montreal, in 1940. He worked at C.P. Airlines for over 30 years, retiring in 1976. Hugh lived in Pointe Claire, Quebec for many years and was a member of Cedar Park United Church. He and Elizabeth came to Sudbury in 1984 and were members of St Mark's United Church. Funeral Service at the Civic Memorial Cemetery, Second Ave., Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 2 pm. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. GOUALARD, Gille Died suddenly, on Friday, June 18, 2004, at the age of 38. Gille was born in France ("not far from the Eiffel Tower") and came to Windsor at the age of 7 with his father Jacque (predeceased 1997). He was a lifelong best friend to Dan Clark and Leslie, and a devoted uncle to Karli and Jake Clark. Loved as a son by Sally "Mama Clark", Leanne and Dean. Very special friend to Christine, Sarah, and Tony, and a dedicated friend to many others. Gille was a long-time soccer player on several Teutonia teams as well as an avid body builder. He lived life fast and to the fullest and always had a smile on his face. His warm and generous heart was always open for those he loved and anyone in need. He will be sadly missed by the countless friends and acquaintances who were fortunate enough to have had him touch their lives. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held from 2-5 on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the Janisse Bros - Marcotte Funeral Home, 1139 Ouellette Ave. (253-5225). Food and drinks to follow at 6 p.m. at the Teutonia Club for a celebration of Gille's life, the way he would have wanted. MELANSON, HARRY DAVID - The death of Harry Melanson of Neck Road, Summerville, NB, occurred suddenly at his residence on Saturday, June 19th, 2004. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Clifford and Glenora (O'Neil) Melanson. Harry worked for Kimberly-Clark for over thirty-one years. Harry is survived by two daughters, Susan Lorber (Michael) of Fredericton, NB and Kathryn Melanson (Brian) of Saint John, NB; two sons, Daniel of Public Landing, NB and Chris (Lisa) of the Kingston Peninsula, NB, and their mother, Lillian Whittaker; one sister, Mary Hartt (Andy) of Venice, Florida; five grandchildren, Teegan, Marissa, Sarah, Liam and Meaghan; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Gerald, Archie, Clifford, Harvey and Edward. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. LONEY, Donald John November 16, 1923 - June 19, 2004 Veteran, Athlete, Coach, Artist With great sadness the family of Don Loney announce his passing on June 19, 2004 at Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Don was in his 81st year. He was born in Ottawa, November 16, 1923, the son of Joseph and Florence Loney (Sawyer). He attended High School in Montreal. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He enjoyed a successful career in the Canadian Football League where he was the recipient of the Jeff Russell Trophy as the MVP in the Eastern Conference. In 1967, he was the recipient of the the Confederation Medal (Canada). He was a member of two Grey Cup champion teams. Although an outstanding player, his greatest contribution to football was as a coach and builder. He is regarded as the "father" of Canadian Football in the Maritimes. His coaching career began at HMCS Stadacona in 1953. In 1957, he was named head football coach at St. Francis Xavier University. For the next seventeen years he compiled one of the best records in Canadian College football including a Canadian College Bowl Championship. In recognition for his contribution to Canadian football as both a player and builder, he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame; the St. F.X. Sports Hall of Fame; the City of Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame; the Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame; and the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. He was a noted artist and particularly enjoyed painting Canadian Navy ships of World War Two. A special love were his reproductions in oils, of many railroad scenes. Don will be especially missed by his brother Ted and sister-in-law Jan, and his brother-in-law Dan Marcus of Ottawa, Ontario. He was a favourite uncle to one niece and five nephews, Heather Scott (Loney), Phillip, Chris and David Marcus; and Byron and Bruce Loney; and will be fondly remembered by his thirteen great-nieces and nephews in Ottawa, Sudbury, Waterloo and London, Ontario. They all loved and respected their "Uncle Don". Don leaves behind a large extended family of many friends and former players, young men whose lives he touched profoundly in his role as mentor and football coach. He will be affectionately remembered by his Naval colleagues, sports associates and many friends and fellow artists world wide. He was predeceased by his sister Audrey. Cremation has take place. A Memorial Service to celebrate Don's life will be held at the Chapel of St. F.X. University at 2:30, Saturday, June 26th. A reception will follow at the University. Interment will take place at the family plot in Ottawa at a later date. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish and St. Mary's Hospital, Sherbrooke for their compassion, care and understanding. LOIS E. (MATCHETT) BABCOCK Lois Elizabeth (Matchett) Babcock, 61, of 275 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away June 21, 2004 in La Verendrye Hospital quite unexpectedly following a heart attack. She was born Aug. 5, 1942 in Fort Frances to Andrew and Grace (Mudge) Matchett of Mine Centre, Ont., their youngest child. Her early years were spent growing up in Mine Centre as part of a large and extended family of siblings and cousins. The family moved in 1955 to Fort Frances, where she could attend high school. In 1959, Lois was married to Orlow Flinders and together they had three children. Eventually, they went their separate ways and from the early 1970s she lived in Thunder Bay, Ont., where she met and married Frank M. Babcock. Their retirement years were spent on Vancouver Island until his death in 2000, at which time Lois came back home to Fort Frances. Lois is survived by her children, Clay, Jason, and Melissa Flinders; grandchildren, Fallon and Farrah Flinders, Brandon, twins, Alysha and Jenaya Jeffery, and Danni Mae and Chase Flinders. She also is survived by her sisters, Cora Thompson Schorsch, Marilyn (Ivan) Bell, Naida (Joe) Wolff, Carol (Jack) Booth, and their families; and her step-children, Susan, Debbie, and Frank Babcock Jr., and their families. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Frank Babcock; and her siblings, Larry Thompson of Mine Centre, Lillian, Vernon, Lindsay, and Carl Matchett; and her beloved brother-in-law, Albert Schorsch of Chicago, Ill. Lois was an avid reader with an inquisitive mind, always keen to learn new things. She had a great love of the outdoors, and times spent at the cabin on Footprint Lake when her family was young were some of her favourites. She was interested in and was an instructor in first aid. In later years, her main hobby was in pursuing and acquiring limited or first-edition collectibles, as well as various unique and interesting curios. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held for family members at a later date. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

TULISALO, Elli Susanna It is with profound sadness that Raimo (Ray) and Kaarina announce the passing of their beloved Aiti, Grandma and Mumma on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the North Bay General Hospital in her 100th year. She was the wife of the late Kosti Tulisalo (1950). Cherished Aiti of son Raimo and daughter Kaarina, loved grandma of Tina and James and treasured Mumma of Jessica. Predeceased by her daughter Hilkka Susanna (1936), and in Finland by her parents Herman and Susanna Niemi, her brothers Jussi, Jaska, Herman and Masa and her sisters Maija and Alma. Her beloved sister Senja passed away February 1, 2004 in New Jersey. She is also survived by her nephew Jorma and his family in New Jersey and nieces Kerttu and Hilkka and nephews Eero, Lauri, Jorma and Mauno and their families in Finland. Special "Aiti" to Liisa, Russell, Jason, Sarah, Will, Abby, Betty, Pat, Anita, Dennis and Kelly. Lovingly remembered as "Mrs. T." and the "Cookie Lady" by Joan and her family in Rhode Island and by her friends in North Bay and Waterloo. Ray and Kaarina were truly blessed to have had such a wonderful mother who filled their lives with such deep abiding love and joy and who made them her "life's work."
