Huard, Betty March 30, 2004 Mrs. Betty Colleen Huard (nee McCuaig) age 66 years passed away on March 28, 2004 with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.Betty was pre deceased by her son Roy, parents A.B."Muggs" and Minnie McCuaig and sisters Doris Gauthier, Dee and Maureen and brother Bobby and brother-in-law Pat Bourguignon.Betty is sadly missed by her loving husband and best friend Arthur and her daughters, Betty Ann (Maurice Blier) of Thunder Bay, Linda (Detlef Trapp) of Rossport, Barbara of Bali, Indonesia and Carol (Zianal Arifin) of Schreiber.Betty will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jason, Jenna, Jamie, Nigel, Taylor, Arthur, Jasmine, Indra, Gilang and Maya, as well as sisters Sandy Bourguignon, Audrey (Mike Morgan), Myrna (Henry Cormier) and brothers Tom (Marilyn), Jim (Merla) McCuaig and brother-in-law John Paul Gauthier. Also numerous nephews, nieces and her "special boys" Gerard, John and Morgan McGrath, Bob Ryan, Rick Spadoni and Ted Winters. Betty was born in Schreiber on October 8, 1937 and was raised in the community. Betty and Art were married November 20, 1954 and spent the next 49 years together raising their family and enjoying life. Betty was an active member of her community, a forty year member of the CWL, a Brownie leader, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Schreiber Curling Club. It was through her involvement in the Schreiber North Stars Junior B Hockey League that she became a second "mom" to many of the boys. She was a stay at home mom until her children were grown. Her working career was spent at Spadoni Bros. Ltd. and the Lake Superior District School Board. She especially enjoyed her work at Terrace Bay and Schreiber Public Schools and the children there. After her retirement in August 2000 she started her own catering business which displayed her great love and talent of cooking and baking. Betty loved her husband and family and kept us all in line with her guidance and life lesson. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and she loved to spend time with them, involving herself in their interests. She had a great appreciation for nature and loved the changing seasons and Lake Superior. She loved knitting, sewing, gardening and painting. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching curling and Blue Jays baseball. Special places in her world were the Royal Edward Camp at Bluff Lake and Rainbow Falls/Rossport Campground. Betty loved the casino, a good game of cards, a good party and time spent with many friends. She was a compassionate and giving person, she loved the strays and the underdogs and those less fortunate than herself. Her home was always open and always full of people and love. She was a strong person with a strong faith. Her faith kept her going through all the ups and downs in life and kept her strong through her recent battles. Cremation has taken place and a Resurrection Mass will be held on Wednesday March 31, 2004 beginning at 11:00 am at Holy Angel's Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber, with Father Antoni Fujarczuk officiating. LAFRAMBOISE, Philippe 1924 2004 DÉCÈS DE L'ÉCRIVAIN ET HISTORIEN PHIL LAFRAMBOISE Le journaliste, écrivain, documentaliste et historien Phil Laframboise est décédé pendant son sommeil jeudi le 29 janvier 2004, à l'âge de 79 ans, d'un arrêt cardiaque. Né Philippe, à Ste-Geneviève de Pierrefonds le 13 juillet 1924, il débute une carrière de journaliste au Progrès de Villeray en 1947 et fonde la même année l'Association des écrivains pour la jeunesse. En 1955, il part étudier à la Sorbonne de Paris, en histoire de l'art, littérature française et art dramatique. À son retour au Québec, il devient rédacteur puis directeur de Radiomonde et Nouvelles Illustrées. Il fut au nombre des créateurs et idéateurs du canal 10, aux côtés de Robert L'Herbier et Roland Giguère. Il était alors concepteur, scripteur et recherchiste à la fois. On lui doit des émissions comme «L'Univers de Yoland Guérard», «La belle époque», «C'était le bon temps» «Québec sait chanter», «Histoire d'une étoile», et des dizaine d'autres. Dans les années 80, on le retrouvera au sein de l'équipe des «Démons du midi» à titre de recherchiste. Auteur prolifique, il publia 38 ouvrages dont plusieurs biographies artistiques (Tino Rossi, Luis Mariano, Clairette Oddera, La Bolduc, Edith Piaf, La Poune, Jean Grimaldi, Fred Barry) et plusieurs autres. Il termina sa carrière de journaliste en 1995, à la fermeture du journal Hebdo Vedettes des Publications Québécor. Tout récemment, il avait collaboré avec Denise Filiatrault qui tourne un film sur Alys Robi. Il lui avait fourni des enregistrements des voix de Rose Ouellette, Manda Parent et Juliette Pétrie. Phil Laframboise était une banque d'archives pour beaucoup de gens dans le métier. Il avait amassé une collection de photos imposante et une banque d'enregistrements sonores qu'il s'agisse de disques ou d'entrevues artistiques. En 1997, il fit don de milliers de documents à la Bibliothèque Nationale du Canada. Il laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Margot Giroux. Il sera regretté par les écrivains, les journalistes ainsi que la colonie artistique toute entière. Un service à l'église en présence des cendres sera célébré le mercredi 31 mars 2004, à 14 heures, en l'église St-Vincent Ferrier (8115 Henri-Julien, coin Jarry, Montréal). STUART, Mary (nee Vanstone). Born October 27, 1924, died peacefully on March 28, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the daughter of Byron Samuel Vanstone and Myrtle Irene Vanstone (nee Corner) of Toronto. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by her husband Ron, her four sons and their families, Brian (Lorna, Jana, Andrea), David (Lorraine, Jacob, Colin), Robert and Craig (Patricia, Peter, Heather, Justin), all of whom benefitted greatly from the deep love she shared with them. Mary attended Bishop Strachan School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Toronto in 1946. PARKINSON, Edward Paul. Passed away in Victoria, B.C. on March 28, 2004 aged eighty-three years. Lovingly remembered by his wife Doris, daughter Cheryl Parkinson, and son-in-law David MacLennan and brother Michael. Originally from Bristol, England. Paul served with the RAF during WWII. He spent some time in Canada training in Neepawa, Manitoba and then in Kingston, Ontario where he met Doris. After training he returned to England later joined by Doris. He worked for Bristol Aircraft and then Canadair in Montreal, Quebec, retiring to Ottawa and finally to Victoria.
