RACINE, Leo Joseph passed away peacefully at 73 years of age, on March 26, 2004, at Windsor Regional Hospital Met Campus. Beloved husband for 51 years of the late Rhea Racine (nee McNall) (2001). Loving father to John and wife Marlene, Doug and wife Leigh, Brenda Sinasac and husband Dave, Margaret Bowers and husband John. Predeceased by sons Paul (1971) and Mark (2002). Dear grandpa of Tracy DeWall and husband Dan, Roderick (Rod) Racine, Michael Sinasac, Kelly Paquette and husband Jeff, David (D.J.) Sinasac and partner Roxanne, Chad Bowers, Stacey Bowers and partner Justin. Beloved great grandpa of Brett and Drew Paquette, Bryce and Brady DeWall. Predeceased by his parents Alex (1978) and Mae Racine (1965). Survived by his sisters Kay Forsythe and Mary Racine. Predeceaced by his brothers Bill, Doug, and Robert. Leo retired after 42 years of service with Ontario Hydro, Amherst-burg Utilities, and Windsor Utilities. Leo was a founding member of the First Aid Squad in Amherstburg. He was a respected board member of the Windsor Utilities Credit Union and at one time a leader with the Boy Scouts of Amherstburg. In his later years, Leo enjoyed being a member of various card clubs around the Amherstburg area. Friends may call at the JAMES H. MIKOLIUNAS, VYTAUTAS (MICKEY) Passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, March 27, 2004, at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband of Diana (nee Pressacco) for 52 years. Father of daughter Ann Reed and husband Michael Gates of Toronto, and son John Mikoliunas and wife Carla (Norheim) of Kelowna, B.C. and grandfather to his only granddaughter, Cara. Survived by his only sister, Vanda Cerniene and her family in Kaunas, Lithuania. Mickey emigrated to Canada in1947 where he worked at the Hollinger Gold Mine in Timmins, Ontario as a mine surveyor until its closure in 1968. He them moved to Kitchener and worked until his retirement for the engineering firm of Marshall, Macklin, Monaghan Ltd. Mickey’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, (519) 749-8467. BOUTILIER, Rhoda Myrtle - 76, Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage, passed away quietly Saturday, March 27, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born January 7, 1928, in Moser River, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Amelia (Sharpe) Fisher. Rhoda was one of 11 children and will be missed by Irene (Joseph) Metz, Alberta; Tom (Alice), Halifax; Elsie (Clyde) Sarty, Bridgewater; Edgar, Halifax; Clyde (Kathleen), Walton; Joyce (Narcisse) Marchand, Louisdale, Cape Breton; Reg, Bedford; Noreen, Mount Pleasant; sister-in-law, Beatrice Horroch, Kingston, Ont. Rhoda adored children and was a foster mother to many in addition to raising three of her own. She will be greatly missed by son, Kenneth (Edeltraud) Lumsden, Seelbach, Germany; daughter, Barbara (Denis) Charbonneau, Nepean, Ont. She was predeceased by son, Robert "Toro" Lumsden; brothers, Gilbert, Howard. JOHNSON, Gilbert It is with great sadness that the family of Gilbert Johnson (Gib Jr.) announce his peaceful passing on Saturday March 27, 2004 after an 8 year battle with skin cancer. Gilbert was born on October 3, 1933 in Westboro, Nepean Twsp, where he attended Churchill Avenue Public School. In 1949, his family moved to the corner of Lyon St. and Laurier Ave. where Gilbert attended Ottawa Technical High School and the family operated Johnson's Grocery Store. Gilbert was employed at Clark Dairy and Morrison Lamothe Bakery in Ottawa prior to enlisting in the Canadian Army in 1953. He served with the second regiment RCHA and 2 TPT. COY RCASC as a dispatch rider in Germany with the Second Brigade under NATO command. Following his discharge in 1956, Gilbert was employed in Ottawa the OTC and Colonial Coach Lines. In 1957, he joined the Ontario Provincial Police and was posted in Northern Ontario where he served in Port Arthur, Beardmore and Geraldton. Gilbert was the first O.P.P. officer deployed on a motorcycle in Port Arthur and Thunder Bay District. In 1972, he transferred to Toronto, where he served at the Downsview Det., Ontario Place, Metro Enquiries Unit and the Anti-Rackets Branch. Gilbert retired in April, 1987. In 1988, Gilbert along with his wife Sonia and son Gordon, returned to Thunder Bay where they built and operated The Foaming Brush Coin-Op Car Wash. In September 1997, they retired and moved back to Toronto. With his family, Gilbert enjoyed many happy years of fishing, hunting and swimming at their summer camp on Lake Shebandowan (Thunder Bay District). Gilbert loved pets, especially his little poodles Gigi I, Gigi II, Ginger and Jazzi. They will sadly miss their Daddy and his treats. In his retirement, Gilbert enjoyed his hobby as an avid milk bottle collector, through which he met so many wonderful people. Gilbert was predeceased by his dear son Gordon in October 1996. He is survived by Sonia, his loving wife of 43 wonderful years, loving daughters, Kelly of Barrie, Ontario; Lorna Moreno (Saul) of Rancho Santa Margarita, California and son Lionel of Kewick, Ontario; his three dear grandchildren, Daniel, Christina and Saulito Moreno; sisters, Gloria Waterhouse of Ottawa, Glenda Douglas (Stuart) of Bracebridge, Gale Tesarski (Danny) of Calgary, Brian (Diane) of Ottawa, Bruce (Marjorie) of Stittsville; his late father's wife, Marie of Ottawa; his four aunts, Martha of Edmonton, Iris, Annette and Helen of Ottawa; 21 nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Gilbert was predeceased by his father Gilbert (Gib Sr.) and his mother Gertrude. SWAYZE, Ronald William, Peacefully at the St. Catharines Hotel Dieu Hospital surrounded by the love of his children on March 27, 2004. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy and their children Patt and Bill Chivers, Neil and Donna Swayze a nd Kathryn and Carl MacLeod. Fondly remembered as Papa by his grandchildren Jeremy and Tina Chivers, Ryan Swayze, Melissa and Shannon Patrick, Craig Swayze and Julie and Emmanual Nault and their daughters Caila Swayze and Aviah Chivers. Sadly missed by his step-children Kim and Norm DalCourt, Shawana and Ed Slatter and John and Lisa MacLeod and their children Zach and Morgan MacLeod, Emily and William Slatter and Patrick DalCourt. He will also be missed by his brother Allan Swayze, his sister-in -law Nancy Swayze and his many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his brothers Lloyd, Ken and Eugene. Ron proudly served for his country in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway in the Niagara Peninsula as a Carp enter Supervisor. Upon retiring from the Seaway, he and Dorothy spent many years in Florida and Jack Lake enjoying the good life. At Ron's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. However, Dorothy will receive her family an d friends on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 from 2-3 p.m. in the Hearth Room at Linhaven. EDMONDS, Shirley (Shelley) Passed away peacefully on March 24, 2004 in Toronto in her 73rd year after a long and courageous battle with polycystic kidney disease. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 48 years, Robert, her daughter, Meghan (Owen), her son, Michael (Bianca) and her two grandchildren, Alexander and Natasha. Shelley was born in Ararat, Australia and met her husband, a Canadian foreign service officer, in Indonesia. Accordingly, she spent much of her life living abroad in such countries as New Zealand, Laos, Sweden, Hungary, the United States and Italy. She lived life to the fullest. She was a great story teller, a lover of the arts and a loving wife, parent and grandparent. A memorial service will be held at a later date. BUCHY, Fred S. In loving memory of Fred S. Buchy, 80 years, who passed away Saturday evening, March 27, 2004 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, he grew up on the family farm, moving to Sudbury in 1940. He served as a volunteer with the Canadian Army 1942-1945. He married Betty in 1946 and they became one of the first families to move into Lively in 1951. Fred worked as an underground miner for INCO, first at Frood Mine, then at Creighton Mine after the war, for 29 years, retiring in 1977. He was a proud member of the Town of Lively Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was active in sports, baseball in his youth and curling in the 1950's and 60's. Fred was an avid sports fan for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. He always kept up on local and national poltics and enjoyed a good debate on current affairs. He was a long time member and past vice president of the Royal Canadian Legion Lively Branch. He and Betty enjoyed his retirement years, winters in Florida and summers on Manitoulin Island. He was a great outdoorsman, hunting deer and moose, and a skilled fisherman who loved to pull a pickeral out of Lake Mindemoya or fish for salmon in Providence Bay. The family would like to especially thank the nursing staff of the Continuing Care Wing at Laurentian Site for their care and kindness. Beloved husband of 58 years to Elizabeth Joyce "Betty" Buchy of Lively. Special and loving father of Judy (husband Rick Ketter) of Sudbury, Connie (husband Gordon Scott) and Fred Jr. (wife Debbie) both of Lively. Devoted grandfather of Carrie-Anne (husband Todd Marassato), Angela and Glen Scott. Cherished great-grandfather of Dylan and Grant. Dear son of Fred and Nellie Buchy both predeceased. BLANDFORD, HAZEL VICTORIA Born in Toronto December 16, 1917. Peacefully passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Monday, February 23rd, 2004. Victoria was predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce in 1988. Survived by her son David Blandford (and his wife Kathryn) and daughter Barbara Nuttall. FITZGERALD, Kenneth Joseph In loving memory of Kenneth Fitzgerald, 65 years of Coniston, who passed away Sunday morning, March 28, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. He was born in Sudbury and married Olga (Zayack) in 1964 in Sudbury. A life resident of Coniston he had been a maintenance foreman at Frood-Stobie Mine having 25 years at INCO, retiring in 1991. An accomplished athlete Ken enjoyed sports playing baseball and hockey in younger days and later curling and golfing. He was a keen golfer, having a membership at the Twin Stacks Golf Course. He was a talented musician enjoying singing, and playing the guitar. He took great pride in his yardwork and landscaping, especially his tree planting. A Roman Catholic, he faithfully attended St. Paul the Apostle Church. A real people person, he enjoyed fish frys with his friends and he will be remembered for his wonderful dry wit. BOLDUC (M. Pierre) Le 26 mars 2004, est décédé subitement à La Baie, à l’âge de 51 ans, 10 mois, M. Pierre Bolduc, fils de feu M. Rock Bolduc et de dame Marthe Côté, demeurant au 562 rue Victoria à Ville de La Baie. Selon la volonté du défunt la dépouille mortelle ne sera pas exposée. Les funérailles auront lieu le lundi 29 mars 2004 à 11 h à l’église St-Alphonse de La Baie Les cendres seront déposées au cimetière St-Edouard de La Baie. Il laisse dans le deuil outre sa mère dame Marthe Côté, ses soeurs: Louise Bolduc (Luc Gagnon), Hélène (Robert Leblanc); ses neveux: Frédéric, Martin et Alexandre. Il laisse également dans le deuil de nombreux parents et ami(e)s. HAZEL JOHNSTON Hazel Johnston, 90, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 26, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. Hazel was born Oct. 18, 1913 in Neepawa, Man. to the late Charles and Mary White. On Sept. 7, 1934, she was united in marriage to Hugh Johnston. From Neepawa, they moved to Winnipeg, Man. for a while and then to Rainy River, Ont. and finally to Fort Frances, where they lived for many years. As a member of the Eastern Star, Hazel was a past Matron as well as being organist for them. She also was a past member of St. John’s Anglican Church and the Women’s Guild. For enjoyment, she liked playing piano, and was noted as being an avid Bridge player with her many friends. Throughout the years, Hazel enjoyed travelling to many areas. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Johnston, on Oct. 26, 1983; two sisters, Marjorie Jenkins and Irene Alexander; and one brother, Jack White. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Carol and husband, Joe Kliner, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two granddaughters, Bonnie Kupila of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Lynne McRae of Fort Frances, Ont.; one grandson, Joel Kliner of Calgary, Alta.; seven great-grandchildren, Dustin Kupila, August Tynan (Jack), Cheryl Emery (Chris), Kristy Brenna (Bob), Holly McRae, Stephanie Kupila, and Chloe Rowland; five great-great-grandsons, Cade, Malaki, Ashton, Kayman, and Darius; and several nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to either the Riverside Foundation for Health Care (La Verendrye General Hospital C.C.U.), 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2B6, or the Canadian Cancer Society, P.O. À l’Hôpital Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont de Moncton, le dimanche 28 mars 2004, à l’âge de 88 ans, est décédée Béatrice Marie Léger, épouse de feu Mathias Léger, domiciliée au Manoir Notre-Dame de Moncton. Née à Saint-Ignace, elle était fille de feu Benoit Richard et de feu Alphonsine (Barrieau) Richard. Elle manquera beaucoup à ses six filles: Marie Richard (Arthur) de Saint-Norbert, Anna Richard (Yvon) et Florida Richard (Normand), toutes deux de Dieppe, Régina Richard (Valmond) de Lakeville, Rita Richard (Paul) et Denise Richard (Clarence), toutes deux de Moncton; deux fils: Adelin Léger (Evangéline) et Guy Léger, tous deux de Dieppe; cinq soeurs: Aline Richard de Saint-Louis, Marie Richard (Wilfred) de Leominster, Mass., Lorette Richard et Rita Daigle (Ted), toutes deux de Moncton et Diana Richard de Bouctouche; un frère, Albert Richard (Edith), ainsi que 17 petits-enfants, 13 arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces. Deux soeurs: Natalie et Eva, ainsi que sept frères: Charlemain, Zoël, Jacques, Lionel, Francis, Nobert et Lionel, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison mémoriale Thompson de Saint-Louis. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola de Saint-Ignace, le mardi 30 mars, à 16h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial à une date ultérieure. Heures de visites: le lundi 29 mars, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h et le mardi 30 mars, de 14h jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles. Resting at Thompson Memorial Home, St. Louis, with visiting hours Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, and Tuesday from 2 pm until time of funeral. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignace de Loyola Roman Catholic Church, St. Ignace, on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 4 pm. Interment in the Parish Cemetery at a later date.
