DUMMITT, Michael (Mike) Percy, 46, of RR #1 Havelock, Ont., died Sunday, March 28, 2004. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna (Redquest); his daughter, Dagny Eugenie; daughter, Sara and her husband, Mark Leeder. Born April 20, 1957 in St. Cath arines, Ont., Mike was the youngest of 11 children of Eugenie and Lawrence Dummitt. He grew up in Merritton and Port Dalhousie. Mike and Donna settled in Havelock 20 years ago and lived happily beside the river, next door to his Mom, for whom Dagny i s named. He worked at NHB Industries in Peterborough for 6 years. He was predeceased by his mother and father and two brothers, Lawrence and Bill. Surviving are six sisters: Pamella (Gary Schinkel), Carolynne (Doug Milligan), Annita Newell, Laurraine (Nelson Matthews), Mary Anne Gordon and Louise Wells and two brothers: Ken and Patrick (Nina Mendez). Mike will also be missed by Donna's parents, Don and Barb Redquest; her brother, Greg (Lori) and her sister, Carol (John Theodore). He is also surv ived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Private family service Wednesday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at home, followed by cremation. PARENT, Frieda Frieda passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on March 25, 2004 at the age of 91 years. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Ron (Elsie) and Ken (Janis); grandchildren, Bruce (Denise), Brenda (Brian), Megan (Bruce) and Kyle; as well as her great-grandchildren, Calin, Leah, Taylor, Dana, Chad, Sidney, Luke and Taryn. She is also survived by her sister Nancy and all of her friends at Confederation Park Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1979. Frieda was born on December 5, 1912 in Broderick, Sask. She was raised on a farm in the Outlook, Sask. area and married Walter Parent on March 26, 1935. As a couple they lived in many communities in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, finally settling in Calgary in 1952 with their two sons. Frieda was fun-loving, quick witted and kind hearted. She will be fondly remembered for her love of cards, coffee, candy and meals out at Swiss Chalet. A Celebration of Frieda's life will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Gordon Jackson officiating. Inurnment will follow in Queen's Park Cemetery. If so desired, memorial tributes may be made in Frieda's name to a charity of your choice. ROY, Matt. Matt was born on the family farm on April 5, 1979. Delivered by his father during a late spring storm, his arrival was a flurry that was maintained throughout his life. He spent his childhood on the farm with his sisters and his cousins building forts, riding bikes and developing his daring spirit. His mischievous nature and inventive ability made for an eventful childhood for him and for all who knew him. Matt was educated in Tisdale, at Rosthern Junior College and the College of Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan. His numerous work experiences also led to many adventures. As a young boy, he raised pigs, worked with cattle and leafcutter bees. He worked at Northern Steel at the age of fifteen in the cutting department and later as a welder. He worked as a guide for a fishing lodge at Jan Lake, Saskatchewan, and at Brabant Lodge on the MacKenzie River in the Northwest Territories for two summers. Matt was also a professional card dealer at the Emerald Casino while attending university and spent his last summer as a pharmacy technician at London Drugs in Victoria, BC. He was competent and skilled at each of his occupations and always excelled at his work. Matt had many passions in life: he fervently pursued fishing, hunting, motor biking, playing pool, gambling, snowboarding, ski-dooing, sports cars and deep sea diving. He also enjoyed spending endless nights with friends at the farm and the lake. Matt also loved to make deals, buying and selling his fast toys. Although he was a man of few words, he held strong opinions and beliefs. Matt was organized and meticulous. At the same time, he always pushed the limits and challenged the rules. Matt's last summer was spent in Sooke, British Columbia. He had a wonderful summer doing what he loved to do. He enjoyed diving at various sites off the coast and fishing for salmon in the Strait of Juan de Fuca with his $300.00 fifteen and a half foot boat. He and his Dad set up crab traps and provided many fresh seafood feasts. Matt's life was cut short on March 23, 2004 in a tragic diving accident. He was diving for sea cucumbers off of a commercial fishing boat in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Matt lived life to the fullest. His fearless nature and sheer determination never ceased to amaze those around him. Matt will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished. Matt was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank and Aimee Roy. He is survived by his parents, Anne and Paul; his sisters, Allana, Katherine and Adrienne; brother-in-law, Corey; niece, Emily and newborn nephew, Gabriel; his grandparents, Roy and Nellie Burgess; his closest cousins, Aimee, Paul and Elise; and his many cousins, aunts and uncles and friends. A celebration of Matt's life will be held at the Tisdale Recplex on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank all of the friends and family who have brought so many generous and beautiful gifts of flowers, food and expressions of sympathy. BLANDFORD, HAZEL VICTORIA Born in Toronto December 16, 1917. Peacefully passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Monday, February 23rd, 2004. Victoria was predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce in 1988. Survived by her son David Blandford (and his wife Kathryn) and daughter Barbara Nuttall. Après ses études primaires à Moncton, il a complété ses études collégiales à l’Université Saint-Joseph de Memramcook. Entré au Séminaire Saint-Coeur de Marie à Halifax en 1949, il a reçu l’ordination sacerdotale à Moncton le 28 février 1953. Il a exercé son ministère comme vicaire à Bouctouche, enseignant au Collège l’Assomption, vicaire à Cap-Pelé, curé à Pointe-Sapin, à Acadieville, à Notre-Dame, à Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, à Saint-Louis de France (Moncton). Il a également exercé son ministère en d’autres paroisses et divers groupes du diocèse, de même que dans les diocèses de Yarmouth et de Vancouver. La dépouille mortelle est exposée jusqu’à 21h, le mardi 30 mars, à la Maison funéraire Maillet ltée de Bouctouche. Born on December 16, 1926 in Moncton, NB he was the son of the late Antoine Cormier and Madeleine Blanchard. After primary school in Moncton, he enrolled at St-Joseph University in Memramcook where he completed his Bachelor of Arts. In 1949, he was admitted at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax. On February 28, 1953 Mrg Norbert Robichaud ordained him priest for the church of Moncton. His first Ministry called him to be curate at Saint-Jean Baptist in Bouctouche, then in CapPelé. Before becoming a Pastor, he taught a few years at L'Assomption College in Moncton. As Pastor he served in the following parishes: Pointe-Sapin, Acadieville, Notre-Dame de Kent, SaintAnne de Kent, and St-Louis de France in Lewisville. He was also active as Chaplain for different groups in the Diocese. After his retirement, he served for some time in the diocese of Yarmouth, NS and in the Vancouver area. He is survived by one sister, Léona Cormier of Montréal; two brothers, François of St-Lambert, Québec, Clarence (Hélène) of Moncton; several nephews, nieces and cousins of Prince Edward Island and Québec. He was a respected board member of the Windsor Utilities Credit Union and at one time a leader with the Boy Scouts of Amherstburg. FITZGERALD, Kenneth Joseph In loving memory of Kenneth Fitzgerald, 65 years of Coniston, who passed away Sunday morning, March 28, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. He was born in Sudbury and married Olga (Zayack) in 1964 in Sudbury. A life resident of Coniston he had been a maintenance foreman at Frood-Stobie Mine having 25 years at INCO, retiring in 1991. An accomplished athlete Ken enjoyed sports playing baseball and hockey in younger days and later curling and golfing. He was a keen golfer, having a membership at the Twin Stacks Golf Course. He was a talented musician enjoying singing, and playing the guitar. He took great pride in his yardwork and landscaping, especially his tree planting. A Roman Catholic, he faithfully attended St. Paul the Apostle Church. A real people person, he enjoyed fish frys with his friends and he will be remembered for his wonderful dry wit. He will be sadly missed, but well remembered by his loving family and many friends. Beloved husband of Olga (Zayack) Fitzgerald of Coniston. VAUTOUR, JULIEN "JOE" - At the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 27th, 2004, Julien Joseph Vautour, of West Saint John, NB, husband of the late Lorette (Bastarache) Vautour. Born in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late Laurent and Auriele (Guimond) Vautour. A veteran of World War II, Joe served with the Royal Canadian Navy aboard Swift Current as an Able Seaman. Returning home from the war Joe worked as a Longshoreman with the Port of Saint John and then went on to work with Floods as a Carpenter. He was also a member of St. Rose Church. Joe is survived by his sister Yvonne LeBlanc (Lionel), brother Alfred (Shirley) both of Saint John, brother Norman of Edmonton, Alberta, cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by three sisters Imelda White (Clifford), Bertha Dunn (Bernard), Delima LeMoine (Louis), brothers Albenie and Lawrence. Resting at CASTLE "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, West Saint John, NB (506-634-1701) from where the visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. HAZEL JOHNSTON Hazel Johnston, 90, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 26, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. Hazel was born Oct. 18, 1913 in Neepawa, Man. to the late Charles and Mary White. On Sept. 7, 1934, she was united in marriage to Hugh Johnston. From Neepawa, they moved to Winnipeg, Man. for a while and then to Rainy River, Ont. and finally to Fort Frances, where they lived for many years. As a member of the Eastern Star, Hazel was a past Matron as well as being organist for them. She also was a past member of St. John’s Anglican Church and the Women’s Guild. For enjoyment, she liked playing piano, and was noted as being an avid Bridge player with her many friends. Throughout the years, Hazel enjoyed travelling to many areas. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Johnston, on Oct. 26, 1983; two sisters, Marjorie Jenkins and Irene Alexander; and one brother, Jack White. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Carol and husband, Joe Kliner, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two granddaughters, Bonnie Kupila of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Lynne McRae of Fort Frances, Ont.; one grandson, Joel Kliner of Calgary, Alta.; seven great-grandchildren, Dustin Kupila, August Tynan (Jack), Cheryl Emery (Chris), Kristy Brenna (Bob), Holly McRae, Stephanie Kupila, and Chloe Rowland; five great-great-grandsons, Cade, Malaki, Ashton, Kayman, and Darius; and several nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating.
