PARENT, Frieda Frieda passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on March 25, 2004 at the age of 91 years. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Ron (Elsie) and Ken (Janis); grandchildren, Bruce (Denise), Brenda (Brian), Megan (Bruce) and Kyle; as well as her great-grandchildren, Calin, Leah, Taylor, Dana, Chad, Sidney, Luke and Taryn. She is also survived by her sister Nancy and all of her friends at Confederation Park Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1979. Frieda was born on December 5, 1912 in Broderick, Sask. She was raised on a farm in the Outlook, Sask. area and married Walter Parent on March 26, 1935. As a couple they lived in many communities in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, finally settling in Calgary in 1952 with their two sons. Frieda was fun-loving, quick witted and kind hearted. She will be fondly remembered for her love of cards, coffee, candy and meals out at Swiss Chalet. A Celebration of Frieda's life will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. LAFRAMBOISE, Philippe 1924 2004 DÉCÈS DE L'ÉCRIVAIN ET HISTORIEN PHIL LAFRAMBOISE Le journaliste, écrivain, documentaliste et historien Phil Laframboise est décédé pendant son sommeil jeudi le 29 janvier 2004, à l'âge de 79 ans, d'un arrêt cardiaque. Né Philippe, à Ste-Geneviève de Pierrefonds le 13 juillet 1924, il débute une carrière de journaliste au Progrès de Villeray en 1947 et fonde la même année l'Association des écrivains pour la jeunesse. En 1955, il part étudier à la Sorbonne de Paris, en histoire de l'art, littérature française et art dramatique. À son retour au Québec, il devient rédacteur puis directeur de Radiomonde et Nouvelles Illustrées. Il fut au nombre des créateurs et idéateurs du canal 10, aux côtés de Robert L'Herbier et Roland Giguère. Il était alors concepteur, scripteur et recherchiste à la fois. On lui doit des émissions comme «L'Univers de Yoland Guérard», «La belle époque», «C'était le bon temps» «Québec sait chanter», «Histoire d'une étoile», et des dizaine d'autres. Dans les années 80, on le retrouvera au sein de l'équipe des «Démons du midi» à titre de recherchiste. Auteur prolifique, il publia 38 ouvrages dont plusieurs biographies artistiques (Tino Rossi, Luis Mariano, Clairette Oddera, La Bolduc, Edith Piaf, La Poune, Jean Grimaldi, Fred Barry) et plusieurs autres. Il termina sa carrière de journaliste en 1995, à la fermeture du journal Hebdo Vedettes des Publications Québécor. Tout récemment, il avait collaboré avec Denise Filiatrault qui tourne un film sur Alys Robi. Il lui avait fourni des enregistrements des voix de Rose Ouellette, Manda Parent et Juliette Pétrie. Phil Laframboise était une banque d'archives pour beaucoup de gens dans le métier. Il avait amassé une collection de photos imposante et une banque d'enregistrements sonores qu'il s'agisse de disques ou d'entrevues artistiques. En 1997, il fit don de milliers de documents à la Bibliothèque Nationale du Canada. Il laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Margot Giroux. Il sera regretté par les écrivains, les journalistes ainsi que la colonie artistique toute entière. Un service à l'église en présence des cendres sera célébré le mercredi 31 mars 2004, à 14 heures, en l'église St-Vincent Ferrier (8115 Henri-Julien, coin Jarry, Montréal). Il était fils de feu Antoine Cormier et de feu Madeleine Blanchard. Il laisse dans le deuil une soeur, Léona Cormier de Montréal; deux frères: François de St-Lambert, QC et Clarence (Hélène) de Moncton, ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines du Québec et de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Après ses études primaires à Moncton, il a complété ses études collégiales à l’Université Saint-Joseph de Memramcook. Entré au Séminaire Saint-Coeur de Marie à Halifax en 1949, il a reçu l’ordination sacerdotale à Moncton le 28 février 1953. Il a exercé son ministère comme vicaire à Bouctouche, enseignant au Collège l’Assomption, vicaire à Cap-Pelé, curé à Pointe-Sapin, à Acadieville, à Notre-Dame, à Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, à Saint-Louis de France (Moncton). Il a également exercé son ministère en d’autres paroisses et divers groupes du diocèse, de même que dans les diocèses de Yarmouth et de Vancouver. La dépouille mortelle est exposée jusqu’à 21h, le mardi 30 mars, à la Maison funéraire Maillet ltée de Bouctouche. Born on December 16, 1926 in Moncton, NB he was the son of the late Antoine Cormier and Madeleine Blanchard. After primary school in Moncton, he enrolled at St-Joseph University in Memramcook where he completed his Bachelor of Arts. In 1949, he was admitted at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax. On February 28, 1953 Mrg Norbert Robichaud ordained him priest for the church of Moncton. His first Ministry called him to be curate at Saint-Jean Baptist in Bouctouche, then in CapPelé. Before becoming a Pastor, he taught a few years at L'Assomption College in Moncton. As Pastor he served in the following parishes: Pointe-Sapin, Acadieville, Notre-Dame de Kent, SaintAnne de Kent, and St-Louis de France in Lewisville. He was also active as Chaplain for different groups in the Diocese. After his retirement, he served for some time in the diocese of Yarmouth, NS and in the Vancouver area. He is survived by one sister, Léona Cormier of Montréal; two brothers, François of St-Lambert, Québec, Clarence (Hélène) of Moncton; several nephews, nieces and cousins of Prince Edward Island and Québec. GALLANT, M. Kathleen (Kay) - The death of Mrs. M. Kathleen (Kay) Gallant, wife of Elmer Gallant of Belvedere Avenue, Charlottetown, occurred Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Kay was 82 years of age. Besides her husband, Elmer, she is survived by her sisters-in-law Mrs. Muriel Gallant, Mrs. Brenda Edgar and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents: Bernard and Caroline (Doucette) Gallant; her brother, Bernard Gallant, and sister, Martina (Tina) Chappell. Well-known in the entertainment circles, both she and Elmer performed for many years in local minstrel shows, variety shows and concerts. To honour her wishes, cremation has taken place.
