Florence Ann Coates PETITCODIAC, NB - Florence Ann Coates, age 90, of Corey Avenue, Petitcodiac passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 surounded by her loving family. Born February 1, 1914 in Lewis Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Duncan and Elizabeth (Killam) Henry. She was a member of the Petitcodiac Baptist Church, the Women's Missionary Society, the Order of the Eastern Star, Petitcodiac Senior Citizens Club, Petitcodiac Women's Institute, and the NB Retired Teachers Association. A retired teacher with many years of service in Salisbury Schools, her career began in a one room school house in Manhurst where she met her future husband, Ward Coates. Florence is survived by her daughters, Edith (Michael) Forestell of Toronto, Mildred (Ralph) Keith of Lower Ridge, Anne Coates of Summerside and Janet Coates Mason of Petitcodiac; grandchildren, Judith, Carol, Julie, Stephen, Vance, Jonathan, Chris, Jim, Shelley and Libby; 14 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a special grand daughter and care giver Betty Keith. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, H. Ward Coates in 1989; her sons, Danny and Jamie; her daughter, Margaret Keith in 2004 and grandchildren, Sheila Hicks and Marty Keith; brothers, Biard, Clarke, Elbridge and Harold; sisters, Tina (Gillies), Margaret (Lewis), and Mildren (Hoar). Resting at Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac, with visitation on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral will be held on Friday, March 24, 2004 at 2pm from the Petitcodiac Baptist Church, Rev. G. Cook officiating. Interment will be held in the Anagance Cemetery at a later date. FERN JOSEPH de MONTIGNY After a lengthy battle with leukemia, Fern passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on March 22, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Fern is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverley; three sons, Dennis of California, Fern Jr. (Carrie), Darrell (Christa); two daughters, Deborah (Darryl) and Dawn (Charlie); grandchildren, Kim, Kristoffer, Whitney, Crystal, Lucas; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Maggie, Jordan, Braiden, Brooklyn; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Fern was born on September 30, 1925 in Ste. Anne, MB and lived 25 years in Transcona. He drove for the White Ribbon Bus Lines from 1950 to 1955, and then started driving for the Greyhound Bus Service from 1956 to retirement in 1988. Fern was a loving husband and a family man; we all enjoyed 35 years at the cottage at Rush Bay. Mom and Dad also enjoyed six wonderful years at Paradise Village where they had a lot of great times and made a lot of good friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The family would like to thank Dr. Galbraith, Dr. Johnston, the senior investigator at the Institute of Cell Biology, Dr. Lemoine, Dr. de Moissac and the special nursing staff of Ste. EUDORE (Bit) LACASSE 1918 - 2004 Peacefully, surrounded by his children, Eudore passed away on Monday, March 22, 2004 at the Centre Medico-Social in St. Pierre-Jolys, MB. Eudore is survived by his children, Rose-Marie (Larry Steinke), Guy (Frances), Norbert (Rita), Claire, Rene (Helene), Normand (Beverly), Colette (Tim McMahon), Lucien and Jacques (Sandra); 20 grandchildren, Caroline (Toby), Jason, Laurel (Don), Aaron, Joelle, Marie, David, Lucille, Brent, Keith, Lynne (Maurice), Damien, Darrel, Robert, Matthew, Alexandra, Kendra, Karl, Tyler and Shae-Lynn; four great-grandchildren, Nikki, Tyler, Daniel and Colin. He was predeceased by one son Lucien Jeannot who died shortly after birth, one granddaughter Shawnae, his parents, two sisters and three brothers. He was the last surviving child of Napoleon and Virginie Lacasse. In 1942, he wed Agathe Levesque and together, they continued the farming operations alongside his parents. He prided himself on running an efficient and productive farm, always making sure that the yard and all farm equipment were kept in excellent condition. He passed on this pride to his sons who worked alongside him. Eudore was quick to show them how to service trucks and autos as well as any farm equipment. Eudore later sold his land, all but the farm yard which he loved so much. He shared his time between the farm and his residence in Winnipeg, always preferring the farm life. He loved to listen to his old-time music and show off his dance steps whenever he had the opportunity. He enjoyed reminiscing about his younger days, always adding a good dose of humour. Funeral services will be held at the St. Viateur Roman Catholic Church in Otterburne, MB on Saturday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in the Otterburne Parish Cemetery following the mass. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Chalet Malouin for their care and patience and also to the staff of the St. Pierre Centre Medico-Social for their loving attention to Eudore during his three month stay. TRUEMAN, HUGH - On Tuesday, March 23, 2004 peacefully, surrounded by family, at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga at the age of 84. One of the original pioneers of Canadian Radio, Hugh Trueman, was first heard on the air in 1931 at the young age of 12, hosting a kid's talent program, known as "Uncle Bill and His Junior Radio Stars". Mr. Trueman continued the broadcast for 26 years. The weekly program was carried by numerous stations through out the Maritime provinces. He pioneered and hosted one of radio's first "telethons" for 20 years. It was an annual Christmas fund-raiser known as, "the Empty Stocking Fund Broadcast". This tradition is still carried on today, via Saint John N.B.'s CHSJ-TV. He managed radio station CFBC in Saint John, before moving his family to Florida where he worked for WTVJ-TV in Miami. He returned to Canada two years later, settling in southern Ontario where, following a short stint at Hamilton's CHCH-TV, he joined the retail sales division of Toronto's CFRB, where he stayed for almost a quarter of a century. Following the untimely death (1965) of his first wife, Ruth Johnson, (mother of his four sons) he hosted a syndicated daily radio feature know as "Hugh Trueman the Old Bachelor". Mr. Trueman's voice could still be heard doing commercials over Ontario's airwaves until the age of 80. Born in Ingleside N.B., son of John and Annie. He leaves siblings Virginia and Nan and was predeceased by brothers Stuart and Ian, along with sisters Margaret and Ruth. He is survived by his second wife Stancie (married in 1973) and four sons; Clint, Tim, Roger, Matt and daughters-in-law Tracy and Pat, along with two grandchildren; Cliff and Scotty. BERGSMA, Donald, After a lengthy illness, at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, on Sunday, March 21, 2004, in his 63rd year. Loving husband and best friend of Mary. Dear father of Ken and Marilyn, Darlene and Derek Wagner, and Carrie and Dan Visser. Lov ing Pake of William, Brianna, Alysa and David. Brother of the late Wiebe and Dicky, Kor and Sherry, Henry and Diny, Jerry and Dianne, Bouwe and the late Jennie, John and MargAnn and his sister Teresa and Joe Boone. Brother-in-law of Ben and Wendy Rie diger. Donald was a member of U.A. Local #666. A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of Mount Sinai Hospital. LAMONT, John, Suddenly, but peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2004 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. John ("Scotty") Lamont Sr. aged 57, left on his journey to a new and greater place. Beloved husband of Fran for 34 years, cherished father of Jo hn and wife Sarah. John will be greatly missed by his adored grandson Riley. John also leaves behind many family and friends from Scotland. John is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. where a service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. CATTERALL, William (Bill), Peacefully, at the Shaver Hospital on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at the age of 68. Predeceased by his loving wife Barbara (1994) and his good friend Doris Kish (2003). Loving father of William Jr., Christine (Ewart) Hackett, Alice (Clifford) Kendall, Edward (Christine) Catterall and Robert (Charlene) Catterall. Dear grandfather of Edward, Barbara, James, Cori, John, Shawn and Daniel. Dear brother of Sharon (Rheal) Martin. Special uncle of Mark, Trevor and Scott. Bill wa s a life member of Protection Hose Co. #1 Thorold Volunteers, a member of Canadian Corp Unit #44, Thorold and Past President of Canadian Corp Unit #93. At Bill's request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place. A pr ivate family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Bill to the charity of choice would be appreciated by Bill's family. Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family sincerely appreciates the comforting and tender care given by the nurses and doctors at the St. Catharines General Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Shaver Hospital One West Wing.
