PAUL WILFRID BONIN Passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 1, 2004 at the age of 81. Born in Laurier, MB on February 14, 1923 Paul was the fourth of Anna and Joseph Bonin's seven children. After joining the Merchant Marine and war service, he married Lena Verhaeghe in 1948. They farmed in Laurier and lived in Ste-Rose du Lac before moving to Winnipeg. Paul spent most of his working years as a federal civil servant, retiring in 1981 after 26 years with the Department of National Defense. A frequent volunteer for both church and school, he also worked part time at DeGagne Motors, Tache Nursing Centre and helping friends who enjoyed his easy-talking presence as much as his willing assistance. He left us as he lived his retirement: quietly, at peace with the world and its Creator. Predeceased by his parents, his son Ron; brother Reg and sister Sr. Marie Bonin s.g.m., Paul will be sadly missed by his wife Lena; his children, Roy (Adrienne) and Maureen; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jolene, Genevieve (Patrick Labelle), and Stephane; his brother Bob (Eve) of Houston, TX; his sisters, Albina and Orise of St. Petersburg, FL and Dolores (Ted Wisk) of Detroit, MI and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Paul asked that his body be given to the University of Manitoba for medical research. Donations in his memory may be made to the Anatomical Research Fund, Attn.: Roberta Vann Aertselaer, Department of Anatomy, Room 110, 330 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0W3. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date, not yet confirmed.

Roy, Dorothy Lillian (Nee Nelson), Published: 03/06/2004 East Helena, Montana DOROTHY LILLIAN ROY (NEE NELSON)_ Dorothy passed away on February 26, 2004, at the Shelby House Assisted Living home in East Helena, Montana. Born in Hudson, Wisconsin, on December 10, 1908, Dorothy was predeceased by her infant sister, her brother, George, Jr., Sonny, her mother, Millie, her father, George, and her sister, Esther. Dorothy, lovingly remembered by most who knew her as Nana, lived a full and exciting life. The family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, and at the young age of 19, Dorothy was crowned Miss St. Paul and participated shyly, but proudly, winning the title wearing a gorgeous Flapper era dress that she designed and her seamstress mother sewed. She advanced to the Miss America Pageant and was a runner-up. She married her professional hockey player love, Earle Willey, and her only daughter, Joanne, was born a year after. Dorothy spent most of her life modeling for department stores (Dayton's and others) and doing photographic ads. She appeared on the early television show, The Breakfast Club, with Don McNeil. She divorced Earle and married Leonard Leigh, a musician at the radio station KSTP in St. Paul, Minnesota. She and Leonard were later divorced. When her daughter, Joanne, won Vogue Magazine's Prix de Paris contest in 1950 and moved to New York to work at House and Garden Magazine, Dorothy made frequent visits to New York and eventually moved there. She began working as receptionist at the large law firm, Simpson, Thacher and Bartlett, where she met many celebrities. In the company of presidents of corporations to heads of state at impressive venues such as the Waldorf-Astoria, Dorothy had finesse, poise and grace. In New York Dorothy met and married Dick Roy, a merchandise manager she had known from St. Paul, Minnesota. When her son-in-law, John Schaller, moved with his family to Regina, Saskatchewan to become a professor at the University of Regina's new Faculty of Education, Dorothy again moved to be with her daughter and son-in-law and their two children, Huntley and Suzy. She was always there to look after her grandchildren, help make delicious meals, and pick and process garden goodies. When her greatgrandchildren were born she was there to help her granddaughter, Suzy. In 2001 she broke her hip and moved to Montana to live with her daughter in a mountain home. There she enjoyed watching deer, hummingbirds, and a resident bunny from her bedroom window. Many sweet Montana neighbors and friends attended to her, much to her daughter's delight. Dorothy was admired by her fellow models, her family, and all who knew her. Your family and friends will truly miss you, Nana, but we know you'll be busy being beautiful in heaven just as you were here on earth. A Memorial Service will be held on March 20, 2004 at the East Helena United Methodist Church.

PATTERSON, June Josephine. In her eighty-seventh year at the Montreal General Hospital after a long illness bravely borne. Our precious June left us on March 3, 2004. Loving daughter of her late parents, Charles and Greta Patterson, dedicated sister to her late brothers Wendell (Rena) and Reg, cherished sister-in-law to Ruby. Wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews Ardeth, Wayne, Wendy, Darryl, Brent and Mervin, Barbara, Grant, Patty and Bruce. Remembered with love by her great nieces and nephews Vicki, Lance, Brenda and Neil Norman; Wendy, Peter, Frances, Audrey, Clifford, Amanda, Jessica, Sara-Jane, Lorien, Jeri-Lyn Patterson; Kurtis Fink and the late Tai Lyons; Lonny and Jeremy Hunt and Shauna Dempster. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Roy Theodor Welburn, peacefully at his home in Namur, Quebec at the age of eighty-eight years old, postmaster for Canada Post Corporation for 24 years. Ellen May Brewster 1923 - 2004 HARVEY, NB - Ellen May Brewster, 80, of Mary's Point Rd., Harvey, passed away on March 5, 2004 at the Moncton City Hospital. Ellen was born in Hampden, Maine on May 22, 1923 the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Crossman. Ellen was a housewife, caregiver and was also a housesitter for people when they went away. Ellen was very active and did a number of different jobs throughout her lifetime.She also was known for running the roads, she was always on the go. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours bird watching and gardening. She was a very special lady who was like a surrogate mother to many of her nieces and nephews, always there when she was needed and never expecting anything in return. She always had a smile and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews and by her many friends. She will also be deeply missed by her special friend Michelle Larsen of Harvey. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Percy MacDonald; second husband, Harold Brewster; half-brother, Ora Wilson; two brothers, Donald Crossman, George Crossman; and her sister, Thelma Cormier; special friend, Lars Larsen. William J. S. Russell MIRAMICHI, NB - William (Bill) Russell of St Patrick's Drive, Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 3, 2004. Bill was born in Miramichi on July 19, 1924, the son of the late Samuel and Ruby Russell (Comeau). He was a Stationary Engineer having retired in 1989 from Acadia Pulp and Paper where he worked as Superintendent of the Steam Plant, prior to that he worked as a locomotive fireman and engineer for CNR for a number of years. He always enjoyed his work and was extremely dedicated to his job and a sincere friend to his peers and co-workers. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10. He was also an active participant in serving his beloved St Patrick's Catholic Church. Bill was a World War II Veteran having served overseas in England, Holland and France. It was during this time that he met and married Helen Jean White (Brant) in June of 1946. They returned to Canada and began to build their life together becoming the foundation of their family today. Bill is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 57 1/2 years; daughter, Jacqueline Stewart (Adam); son, Kevin (Doris); stepson, David White (Diane) of England; brother, Walter Russell (Phyliss) of Sudbury, ON; grandchildren, Chris Stewart (Stephanie), Kerri King (Lindsay), Kim Stewart-Mah (Eugene), Pam Tweedie (Ben), Debbie Russell (Jason), William Russell; stepchildren, Susan Reardon (Graham) and Stephen White of England; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn. Adam, Hannah, Ethan, Jadyn, Jake, Holly and Jasmine; nieces, Pam, Faye; nephew, Douglas. He leaves a special friend, Robert Jones, who was a true companion not only in fishing season but each and everyday. Born November 25, 1919 he was the son of the late William Victor and Florence Verelia (Barton) Lyons. James was a veteran of the Second World War and served in Canada and overseas in Brittain and Northwest Europe. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star and the France and Germany Star. He was employed by the D.V.A. Hospital as a stationary engineer. Besides his loving wife he is survived by one daughter Betty M. Reid (Ron) of Quispamsis, two sons James M. Lyons of Ottawa and Brian J. Lyons (Sherry) of Mississauga, and granddaughter Stephanie C. DOYLE, Geraldine "Gerry" (Nee Larkin) Peacefully in hospital at Arnprior with her children at her side on Thursday afternoon, March 4th, 2004. Geraldine Frances Doyle of Arnprior at the age of 85 years. Beloved and devoted wife of the late Bill Doyle (February 19th, 1991). Loving and generous mother of Colleen and her husband Al Marechal; Sharron and her husband Des McGrath; Michael Doyle and his wife Sandra; Madonna and her husband Brock Sine with whom "Mom" resided and from whom she received loving care for the last years of her life. She gave unending, unconditional love and encouragement to her six grandchildren: Sean Marechal; John Whyte; Jennifer Dwyer; Shannon, Eron and Nathen Doyle and was in turn their cherished "Gram". Adoring great grandmother of Nolan Whyte; Ryder Doyle and Baby Emmett Dwyer. HOTZEL, Catherine Muriel (nee Riddell) May 24, 1918 - February 27, 2004 Muriel Hotzel passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, AB, on Friday, February 27, 2004. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Susan (David) of Pickering, ON, Charles (Hetty) and Stuart (Barb) of Calgary, and Alastair (Cari-Marie) presently working in Mexico; grandchildren Erika, Iain and Derek; brother Eric of Sydney, Australia; sister Maureen of Scotland; and many nephews and nieces in Australia and South Africa. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1976; her beloved brothers David, Charles, Ian and Frank and sisters-in-law Violet, Valerie and Maisie. Muriel was born in Inverness and grew up in Ardersier, Scotland. After serving as a nurse in the Second World War, Muriel trained as a teacher and settled in Leeds, England, where she met her husband and raised her family. In 1967, the family moved to Montreal where Muriel continued her teaching career at Vincent Massey Elementary School in Greenfield Park. Muriel took great pride in her teaching career and enjoyed the respect of colleagues and students alike. Muriel enjoyed an active retirement in Ingleside, ON. She served for several years as President of the local Women's Institute, actively participated in her church and pursued numerous hobbies. During this time, she also took several trips to visit family in England, Scotland, South Africa, Australia and Calgary. In November 1999, Muriel moved to the Scenic Acres Retirement Residence in Calgary, where she volunteered in the library and organized a cribbage league. Muriel loved to laugh and always looked on the bright side of things. She was a special person and a great friend, mother and grandmother. A memorial service will be held at Scenic Acres Retirement Residence, Calgary, on Monday, March 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held in July at St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery, Ingleside, ON. Jefferson, in his 71st year, was the beloved husband of Aileen (nee Lockhart) Jefferson. He was the dear father of Lynne Jefferson of Guelph, Brian and his wife Catherine Jefferson of Deep River and the late Keith Jefferson. He was the dear grandfather of Cole Jefferson. Gordon was the dear brother of Lloyd Jefferson and his wife Kaye and was the dear uncle of Ronald and Vickie-Lee Jefferson of Nova Scotia.
