Jeanne D'arc "Joan" Savage SAVAGE, Jeanne D'arc "Joan" - Peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Wednesday, February 25, 2004, in her 70th year. Joan was the loving wife of the late Paul Savage; dear mother of Jocelyn Loewen (Kel), Ed Savage (Anne), Dan (Tina) Savage and Michelle Savage-Smith (Bill). Joan will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Beloved sister of Roy Wissell (Harvana), late Fernand Wissell (late Jackie), Dorothy Prpich (Frank), late Armand Wissell (Vera), Sally Leeman (Sanford), Florence Cloutier (Ray), Therese Leeman (late Bernard), late Flerette McCutcheon (Bob). Also survived by sister-in-law Estelle Servant (late Silvio); beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held for the family at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home in Winnipeg on Monday, March 1, 2004. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie. Theresa Melvin 1941 - 2004 Theresa Melvin, of Moncton, passed away suddenly at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, February 28, 2004 at the age of 62 years. Born in Cherryfield, NB on June 10, 1941 she was the daughter of Laura (Landry) and the late Timothy Surrette. She had been a caregiver for many years. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her husband of 42 years, Reginald Melvin; mother, Laura of Moncton; daughter, Wendy (Keith) Soucoup of Sussex, NB; daughter-in- law, Janice Melvin of Dartmouth; sister, Debbie Budd and her husband Brian; brother, Norman Surrette and his wife Florine of Moncton; also by six grandchildren, Tara-Lee of Fredericton, Jodie, Amy and Travis of Sussex, Kayla Marie and Bree-Anna of Dartmouth; also by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her father, she was predeceased by her son Brian Melvin in 2002. Resting at Tuttle Bros. Funeral Home, 171 Lutz St. on Tuesday March 2, 2004 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. JAST, Kathryn Mary Elizabeth (Kate) (March 25, 1953 - February 28, 2004) On February 28th, surrounded by the love of her family, Kate's Guardian Angel took her soul to her heavenly home, after a courageous and long battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Marko Wolf-Pany, her parents, Anne and Edmund Jast, her aunts Olga Lewicki, Edna Robbie, and Stephanie Turney, her god-mother Olive Parker, special aunt Ann Sumka and an extended family that includes her cousins Marilyn Dolenko (Allan), Irene Romaniw (Oleh), Pat Lewicki (Paul LaRiviere), Trish Morrison (Tamara Abramson), Raymond Jast (Lorraine) and their families, all her friends in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and around the world. Kate was predeceased by her sister Terese and her mother-in-law Maria Anita (Mara) Pany. Kate was born and grew up in Winnipeg. She attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a B.A. and a B.Ed. She taught English for the Department of National Defence, St.Jean, Quebec, ESL at Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate, Winnipeg, and for the Public Service Commission, Ottawa. Kate moved to Ottawa in the mid-eighties where she worked as a management consultant specializing in Human Resources. Kate was employed as a Principal Consultant with KPMG in Ottawa when illness forced her retirement. On August 6th, 1994, at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kate married the love of her life, Marko. It was the happiest day of their lives and they were a truly devoted couple. Kate earned the hard way, through many years of pain and suffering, her place in Heaven. Through all this she never lost hope or her faith. Even when in pain and/or fear, she always had a smile and a kind word. She taught us all the true meaning of courage. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue. Florence "Nicki" Nickerson 1921 - 2004 Florence "Nicki" Nickerson, 82, of Shediac, passed away at Villa Providence on Saturday, February 28, 2004. Born in Yarmouth, NS she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Sadie G. (Bullerwell) Trask. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Main St. Shediac, NB. She was Past President of the MCA Ladies Curling, a former social member of the F. William Ling Lawn Bowling Club, a member of the Engineers Wives Club and she was also very active with Girl Guides in Moncton. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Marshall J. Nickerson; daughter, Judy and her husband John Baxter of Franklin, Tenn. USA; three grandchildren, John, Kelleah and Krista; and by two great grandchildren, Ashley and Emily. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. There is no visitation at the Funeral Home. BISHOP, WILFRED GEORGE At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, on March 1st, 2004 Wilfred George Bishop, born in Chipman in 1917, the son of the late Amos and Elzina (Annie) Bishop. Predeceased by his wife Margaret Mae Bishop in 2002, brother Calvin Bishop and sisters Vera Babington, Cora Galbraith, Blanche Horncastle, and Madeline Chase. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Bishop of Halifax and his son Darrell (Betty) Bishop of Fredericton; and by grandchildren Darren, Brian, Liam and Meagan. Wilfred was the longest sitting member in the Legislature of the Province of New Brunswick, serving thirty five years as a member for Queens County and Queens North. He was first elected in 1952. He was appointed Minister of Natural Resources in 1970. In 1972 he became Minister of Highways (later Transportation) where he served for thirteen years. In October, 1985 he was appointed President of the Executive Council, where he served until his retirement in the Fall of 1987. Prior and during his service to New Brunswick, Wilfred was also active in private business. In the early 1940's he began a lumber and sawmill business with his father and later his brother (Bishop Brothers). He was President of Bishop Lumber Co., B & F Lumber Company, and Bishop Sawmills Ltd. Wilfred's greatest love was people. He touched the lives of many as a loving father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He will be resting at the Chipman Funeral Home (339-6612 sharchip@nbnet.nb.ca) until Thursday, March 4th, 2004 when funeral service will be held from the Second Chipman United Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with rev. John Dunnett and Rev. Harry Branscombe officiating. Spring interment in the Second Chipman United Baptist Cemetery. MCCANN, GREGORY HUGH The death of Gregory Hugh McCann of Douglas, husband of Josephine (Shields) McCann, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 29. Born on September 3, 1922 in Cloudy Settlement. He was the son of the late William and Margaret (Kirby) McCann, he was a truck driver for HS Gills and Sons for several years. Gregory was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the North Shore Regiment where he was wounded twice in France. He was lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 59, and member of St. Theresa's Church. Gregory was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and making maple syrup. He took pride in being the best father, grandfather, and friend he could be, and put the concerns of others before his own. He will be sadly missed. Besides his wife, Gregory is survived by sons William (Karen) McCann of Keswick, Jack McCann of Douglas and Lorne McCann of Douglas; daughters Margaret McCann of Douglas and Ellen Dunphy (Brent) of Keswick; brother Vincent McCann of Douglas, and grandchildren Helena McCann (Boo Boo) of Burtt's Corner and her fiancée Jeremy Wilson, Jessica and Karah McCann (Lovebugs) of Keswick; one uncle Leo Kirby and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gregory was predeceased by brothers James McCann and Joseph McCann (Dorothy); and sister Mary Burtt (Willis). MERRITT, THEODORE (TED) MILFRED The death of Theodore (Ted) Milfred Merritt, 84 years, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on March 1, 2004. Born in Maple Grove, NB, a son of Myrtle (Donally) Cornish and Eugene William Merritt. Ted was a Member of St. Paul's United Church. He was a Veteran of the Second World War. During his military career as an air frame mechanic and later after the war transferring to clerical, he served in such places as Brandon, ON; Bagotville, QC; and St. Thomas, ON. After retiring from the Military he graduated from Business College in Moncton. He worked at Levines Department Store, Capital Coop in Fredericton and later working as a civilian at Base Gagetown, retiring in 1984. For the last two years Ted resided at the DVA Veteran Unit. He enjoyed walking, current events discussions, socializing and his car. Theodore is survived by sisters, Gladys Flinn and Jean Hopper of Fredericton, Eva Thomas of Cross Creek, Leona (Dorcas) Hood of Fredericton and several nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents, step-father, Cecil Cornish, and brothers, Irvine Cornish and Ian Cornish. CONNELL, MARGUERITE DOW Marguerite Dow Connell of Northampton, wife of the late J. Henry Connell, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2004 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital at the age of 93. Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Jennie (Dow) Gibson. Mrs. Connell was a schoolteacher and a devoted homemaker to her family. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. KINNONEN, Walter George In loving memory of Walter George Kinnonen, 64 years, who passed away Sunday, February 29th, 2004 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Memorial Site. Born at the family farm on Long Lake he apprentised at Takala Service Station in Creighton obtaining his Mechanics Lisence in 1963. Walter drove transport for Pioneer Construction and then for Shell Canada, retiring with 30 years of service. In his younger days he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Alfred Plourde À l’Hôpital général de Grand-Sault, le dimanche 29 février 2004, à l’âge de 87 ans, est décédé Alfred (L’Dé) Plourde, époux de feu Annette Thériault, domicilié à Grand-Sault. Né à Drummond en 1916, il était fils de feu Ernest Plourde et de feu Léda Rioux. Cultivateur à la retraite, il était bien connu pour ses talents musicaux. Il a été précédé par une fille en bas âge, Marie (Sylvaine), deux soeurs, Anna et Thérèse et un frère, Fernand. Il laisse dans le deuil cinq enfants, Bertrand (Carmelle) de Drummond, Doreen Lévesque (Laurent), Jean-Guy et Odette Durepos (John) de Grand-Sault et Yvon (Patsy) de Drummond, 12 petits-enfants, 21 arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que des neveux et nièces. La dépouille mortelle est exposée au salon Guy O’Regan, 515, boul. Everard Daigle à Grand-Sault. Ses funérailles auront lieu le mercredi 3 mars à 16h15 en l’église Saint-Michel de Drummond, et l’inhumation au cimetière paroissial. Les heures de visites le mardi de 19h à 21h, et le mercredi de 14h jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles. Il laisse dans le deuil son epouse Louise (Robin) ainsi que deux fils et deux filles, Armand (Charlotte Desbiens), Havre-Saint-Pierre, QC et leur trois enfants, Tania, Karine et Pierre; Lilianne (Daniel Erickson), Leduc, AB et leur deux enfants Michelle et Tania; Paul-Emile (Rhonda Stearns) et beau-fils RJ, Winnipeg; et Edith (John Wylie) de Winnipeg, ainsi que trois arriere petits-enfants. L'ont precedes dans le tombe son premier epouse Valentine (Andree), son pere et sa mere, Archelas et Clara (Potvin) Boulet; six freres, Eugene, O.M.I., Denis O.M.I., Wilfrid, Noel, Lionel et Gerard; deux soeurs, Sr. Rose Boulet, S.G.M. et Yvonne Boulet. Lui survivent deux freres, son jumeau Andre (Jean), Toronto, ON, et Charles (Germaine), Winnipeg, ainsi que nombreux neveux et nieces. Armand naquit a Dunrea, MB le 29 juillet 1918. Il etait le onzieme d'une famille de quinze enfants. Il perdit son pere, Archelas, alors qu'il n'avait que quatre ans ce qui fit que tres jeune, n'ayant que complete la troisieme annee, il quitta l'ecole pour travailler a la ferme pour aider la famille. Il servit dans l'armee comme camioneur durant la deuxieme guerre mondiale. Il epousa sa premiere femme Valentine (Andree) en 1946 et travailla comme cordonnier pendant un an a Elie au Manitoba. De cette union naquit Armand jr. Malheureusement Valentine fut emportee par la maladie en 1952. Ne pouvant continuer son metier en raison de mal de dos, Armand retourna aux etudes ou il recu son GED ce qui lui a permis d'obtenir un emploi au bureau de meteorologie ou il resta jusqu'a sa retraite en 1983. Il epousa Louise (Robin) en 1954 et de leur union fut nes trois enfants, Lilianne, Paul-Emile et Edith. Devoue a sa famille, Armand etait toujours pret a leur donner un appui. It etait aussi devoue a sa paroisse, le Sacre-Coeur, ou it siega au sein du comite de finances pendant plus de vingt-cinq ans. Tres genereux il supportait diverses organisms tel que l'A.M.M.I. qu'il tenait a coeur. Il etait toujours pret a aider et servir et fit du benevolat au Foyer Valade. Il adorait jouer aux cartes et fut membre de deux clubs d'age d'or, dont Vive la Joie et les Feuilles d'Or. Il etait farceur et aimait rire. La famille desire remercier tous les gens pour leur appui, leur sympathie et leur amour. La famille remercie tout specialement le departement de medicine 5B a l'hopital Saint-Boniface. Il y aura visionnement avant le service a 10h30 le mardi 2 mars a la Paroisse du Sacre-Coeur, 424 avenue Brandon, suivi immediatement par la messe a 11h00. He is survived by two brothers, his twin Andre (Jean), Toronto, ON and Charles (Germaine), Winnipeg. He leaves to mourn many other nieces and nephews. Armand was born in Dunrea, MB, July 29, 1918. He was the 11th child in a family of 15 children. His father passed away when he was only four years old which meant that very young, having only completed grade three, he left school to work on the farm to help out the family. He served in the army as a truck driver during the Second World War. He married his first wife Valentine (Andree) in 1946 and worked as a shoemaker for one year in Elie, MB. From this union was born Armand Jr. Sadly, Valentine passed away from illness in 1952. Not being able to continue his shoemaker's career due to back problems, Armand returned to school to complete his GED, which enabled him to start a new career with the Weather Bureau, where he worked until his retirement in 1983. He married Louise (Robin) in 1954 and from that union were born Lilianne, Paul-Emile and Edith. Devoted to his family, Armand was always prepared to lend a helping hand. He was also a strong supporter of his parish Sacre-Coeur, where he served on the finance committee for over 25 years. Very generous of nature, he supported several organizations, such as l'A.M.M.I., which he held dear to his heart. He was always willing to assist and be of service to others and worked as a volunteer at Foyer Valade. He adored playing cards and was a member of two senior clubs, Vive la Joie and les Feuilles d'Or. He was a joker and loved to laugh. The family wishes to thank everyone for their support, sympathy and love. We wish to thank the staff at 5B Medicine, St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. McCARTY, CHARLES - The death of Charles McCarty of Blue Mountain Bend, occurred on February 29, 2004 at his home at the age of 94. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late James and Annie (Iverson) McCarty. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 3 at 2 PM from White's Chapel with Rev. H. M. Lewis officiating. Interment in the Burntland Brook Cemetery. MUIR, ROY S. - Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 29, 2004 in his 87th year. Roy will be greatly missed by Mary Frances (nee Doyle), his wife of 64 years; his children, David Muir (Pat Goodwin) of Parksville, B.C., and Lynda Muir of Ottawa; grandchildren, Alex and Nick Contreras; niece, Heather Van Tassel, and Walter Van Tassel of South Bay. A lifelong resident of Saint John, Roy served with the RCAF in World War II. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

SCOTT, MAISIE - Maisie Scott, 79, Inglewood, Annapolis Co., N.S., died February 26th at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Shelburne, N.S. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Scott. Maisie belonged to several ladies clubs. she enjoyed working in her garden, canning her own vegetables and cooking. Spending time with her family and friends was something she appreciated. She is survived by sons, Clifford, Queensville Ontario; Robert (Bob), Saint John, N.B.; Christopher (Chris), Safety Harbour, Florida. Daughter Marie McVay, Decatur, Georgia. Grandchildren Bradley Skinner, Kelly Skinner-Mendes, D'arcy Skinner, Maegan Skinner, Erin Skinner, Darius McVay, Kevin McVay, Nicole Skinner, Talisha Skinner, Brooke Skinner, Great Granddaughter, Claudia Mendes. Friend and companion Joseph Makkers of Lynn Massachusetts. She was predeceased by son, Noel Ernest. No visitation or funeral by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Robert L. WILSON, NORMA MARIE - Norma Marie (Howe) Wilson, age 69, of 656 Brunswick Drive, Saint John, died unexpectedly at her residence on February 29, 2004. Norma was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Stone), (Best) Howe. Norma is survived by one son Gordon Wilson (Freda), one daughter Cathy McCollum (Ross). Also survived by brothers Ronald, William, Wayne and Fred and sisters Winnifred, Dorothy, Anna, Sandra and Jean, four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren, and a special companion George Jones. Norma is predeceased by one sister Betty, and former husband Gordon Wilson.
