HORACE PROULX January 31, 1929 - January 28, 2004 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Horace, three days prior to his 75th birthday on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Riverview Health Centre with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his great-granddaughter Jewel; his parents, Paul and Diana; two siblings, Ernest and Rita; his parents-in-law, Didace and Cecile Audette. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Annette; his children, Doris (Mike), Denis (Val), Suzanne (Rick), Mona (Darren), and Nancy (Blair); 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as by seven brothers; four sisters and their respective families; numerous in-laws and friends. Horace worked for Kleysen Transport for 37 years before retiring in 1996. Our family would like to thank the Kleysen family for their kindness and generosity throughout Horace's career and even after his retirement. We sincerely appreciate the support from the caring staff at Riverview Centre and the home care team. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Leo Couture at the Sts-Martyrs Canadiens Roman Catholic Church, 289 Dussault St. in Windsor Park on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of Horace's cremated remains will take place in the P.W. ROY, Pansy (nee Sturtevant) of Welland passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family at Sunset Haven on Thursday, January 29, 2004 in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Adrien Roy. Loving mother of Bertha Pollard, Andrew Roy (Lynda), Grace Harris (Don), Jean Furj (John), Marcella Philippe (Jacques), Wilbur Roy (Jean), Teresa Iihola, and Barbara Thom (Alois). Sadly missed by seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, and by 20 great-grandchildren. Survived by her brother Willis Sturtevant. Remembered with fondness by her many nieces and nephews. THIBAULT, Jean-Marie "John" The family announces with sorrow, his death in Sudbury, Tuesday, January 27 2004 at the age of 58 years. Son of the late Joseph-Marie Thibault and of the late Ange-Aimé (née Plante) Thibault-Joly (late Yvan Joly). Beloved husband of Jacqueline Thibault (née Frappier) of Sudbury. Loving father of Gilles Thibault (Carole Richer) of Sudbury. Dear brother of Aimé (Gilberte), Jeannette Martel (Conrad), Laurette Brisson (Roger), Lucille Blais (Yolland) and Jeannine Thibault (Ed Sampson) all of Sudbury. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlyn and by the Frappier family and spouses. A former employee of Dynamex and SRH (Laurentian Site), Jean-Marie was respected and well liked by his co-workers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, council 8360, l'Annonciation. A special thanks to Robert Dale and John's friends at the hospital and the Palliative Care personnel who helped him cope with his illness in his time of need. MONCTON Au Centre de santé des anciens combattants dans la nuit du 28 janvier 2004, à l’âge de 81 ans, est décédé Alban Brideau. Il était fils de feu Joseph Brideau et feu Alma Hébert. Il laisse dans le deuil un fils, Denis (Daniel Landry); deux soeurs: Flora (feu Ligouri Haché) et Ernestine (feu Léonard Léger), ainsi qu’une demi-soeur, Edwidge. Son épouse, Émilie Duguay; ses soeurs: Estelle (feu Adélard Mallet) et Hélène (Oscar DeGrace); ses frères: Normand, Ernest (feu Alfreda Noël) et Frederic (Blanche Power), ainsi que son demi-frère, Johnny l’ont précédé dans l’autre monde. À l’Hôpital régional de Miramichi, le jeudi 29 janvier 2004, à l’âge de 86 ans, est décédé Jean Joseph Cyr, époux de feu Hélène (McCaie), domicilié à Rogersville. Originaire de Baie-Sainte-Anne, né le 10 février 1917, il était fils de feu Calixte Cyr et de feu Mary Jane (Caissie) Cyr. Il laisse dans le deuil trois enfants: Anne-Marie (Joey) Fitzgerald de Hampton, Jean-Paul (Géraldine) de Bathurst et Géraldine (Jean-Guy) Richard de Rogersville; trois petits-enfants: Mélanie (Donnie Kellar) et Natalie Fitzgerald, toutes deux de Halifax et Jonathan Cyr de Bathurst; une soeur, Yvonne Martin (feu Patrick) de Baie-Sainte-Anne; un frère, Ovila (Ethel) de Californie, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Sa soeur, Philomène Mazerolle (feu Alphé), l’a précédé dans la tombe quelques années passées. M. Cyr était un vétéran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et a occupé le poste d’artilleur. Il a traversé en Belgique, en France et en Allemagne. De retour au Canada, il a joint la Marine Marchande et a voyagé à transporter du pétrole dans divers pays. De là, il a travaillé pendant plusieurs années pour la compagnie de Colter’s Diamond Construction d’où il se retira en 1969. Il était membre fidèle et actif de la Légion royale canadienne, filiale no 38 de Rogersville, membre du Club de l’âge d’or et du Monument Assomption de Rogersville. La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la salle mortuaire (paroissiale) de Rogersville. La célébration religieuse aura lieu en l’église Saint-François-de-Sales de Rogersville, le samedi 31 janvier, à 11h. In his earlier years, he was involved in farm labour, fishing and woodcutting. He served his country during World War II as a gunner and was posted in Belgium, France and Germany. Upon his return to Canada he joined the Canadian Merchant Marine and travelled extensively carrying crude oil to different countries. He retired from Coulter's Diamond Construction Co in 1969. He was passionate about fiddle music and listening to Maritime performers. His other interests were lobster fishing, hunting, and visiting his beloved town of Baie Ste-Anne. He was an avid reader and kept a daily record for a number of years. He was a loyal and active member of the Canadian Legion #38, member of Le Club d'Age d'Or de Rogersville and member of the Monument Assumption. He leaves to mourn him, three children, Geraldine (Jean-Guy) Richard of Rogersville, Jean-Paul (Geraldine) of Bathurst, Anne Marie (Joseph) Fitzgerald of Hampton; three grandchildren, Jonathan Cyr of Bathurst, Melanie (Donnie) Kellar of Halifax, and Natalie Fitzgerald of Halifax.He also leaves a sister, Yvonne (late Patrick) Martin of Baie Ste-Anne; a brother, Ovila (Ethel) of California; and several nieces and nephews. Mourning the loss of a beloved wife is Robert "Bob" Strain of Indian River, Ontario. She was the loving mother of Harold Hickson of Lindsay and Nancy (Gary) Long of Cobourg. Grandmother of Matthew Hickson of Dunsford and Trevor and Breanna Long of Cobourg. Greta was a very creative person, and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. Born in Italy, Mr. Nigro came to Canada in 1954 and has been here since that time. He was self-employed as a C arpenter. Beloved husband of Paola Nigro. EVANOCHKO, Annie (nee Piasta) In loving memory of Annie Evanochko (nee Piasta), 82 years, who passed away peacefully at Pioneer Manor, on Tuesday, January 27th, 2004. Born in Yamnitsia, Ukraine in 1921, she came to Canada with her parents and siblings when she was 15 years of age. She married Alex Evanochko (predeceased) in 1940 and together raised two sons and lived a busy life farming in the Churchill District, near Ituna Saskatchewan until they retired and moved into town. After moving to Ituna, she spent many happy hours gardening and talking to neighbours and friends. She was a devout member of Sacred Heart Parish in Ituna before her illness forced her to relocate to Sudbury to be with family members. She was always ready to help with any project and was the head cook for dozens of weddings and special events at the Parish Hall. She loved to go to church and sing the liturgy especially at Christmas and Easter. Annie loved to embroider all kinds of pillows, cushions and table clothes, but her special love was the beautiful Ukrainian shirts and blouses that she made for many people in Canada and the United States. She also embroidered dozens of church linens and there are many churches that have her linens on display to this day. Annie also loved her family, and was never happier than when she was with her sons and their families, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She was a second mother to many of them. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Bill (Roman), wife Mary (Marusia) and special "Baba" to her only granddaughter Krystine of Coniston, Ontario, son Alexander (Dennis) and fiancée Jeanne Albert of Edmonton, Alberta. Predeceased by her parents Paraska and Steve Piasta, survived by brother Bill (Doris) Piasta Yorkton, Saskatchewan, sister Mary Singhuber (Walter predeceased) of St. Catharines. Predeceased by sisters Stephanie and Doris (George) Evanochko and brothers Andrew (Ukraine), Tony (Olga) Piasta of Ituna, Saskatchewan. Survived by many nieces and nephews across Canada and many friends in Ituna and (Coniston) Sudbury area. Special "kyma" to Angela & Paul Behun - Coniston. SOPHIE ADELE BERARD (nee KACZOR) Peacefully on January 28, 2004, Mrs. Sofia Berard, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Sofia was born on April 25, 1910 in Winnipeg and spent her whole life in Winnipeg. She married her husband Joseph in 1926 and together they raised eight children. Sofia was predeceased by her husband Joseph and two sons, Ronnie and Clifford. She is survived by her daughters, Tootsie (Peter), Alice, Roseanna (John) and her sons, Ed (Eve), Arne (Lorrie) and Alfred; also by three generations of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, too numerous to mention. Sofia made friends with many people. She had a great zest for life and was truly a very strong and loving person. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the P. He served for over five years in the Second World War as a Lancaster Bomber Pilot, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross for Bravery. He retired to Nova Scotia after living in Quebec for 40 years. Born in Hackett's Cove on October 6, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Jessie (Gates, Weinaut) Steele. Gertie was an accomplished musician and loved any opportunity to play the piano or organ. She played for many dances, and was a church organist over a period of 75 years. She also kept boarders for many years and was know for her hospitality at "Apple Tree Cottage". She is survived by son, Byron Sinclair (Molly) Boutilier; daughters, Aileen (Rev. LANDRY, Joseph Ernest In loving memory of Joseph Ernest Landry, 72 years, who passed away Wednesday evening, January 28th, 2004 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Beloved husband of Lucy (Novak) Landry of Sudbury. Loving father of Mike (wife Suzanne) and Lise both of Sudbury, Yvon (wife Donna) of Hamilton, Francine (husband Marcel Poirier) and Sylvie Roy (friend Dave) both of Welland. Loving step-father of Peter Svoboda (friend Marilyn) of Azilda. Cherished grandfather of Julie (fiance Chris), Matthieu, Crystal, Nicklas, Derek (fiancee Rachel), Andrew (fiancee Patricia), Joel, Eric, Daniel, and Jackson. Dear son of Albert Landry and Germaine (husband Albert Roy) all predeceased. Dear brother of Estelle (husband Fern Turpin predeceased) of Blezard Valley, Emelda (husband Leo Patrie) of Chelmsford, Ulyse predeceased (wife Mabel Laurin-Lavoie of Sudbury), Georgette Brabant (husband Leo) both predeceased, Etieinne (wife Cecile) and Clement (wife Françoise) both of Sudbury. He worked at INCO for 37 years, retiring in 1985. Memorial Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 39 Walford Rd., Saturday, January 31st, 2004 at 10 a.m. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
