FILCE, Albert Joseph, Peacefully at his Mountain Street home in Beamsville, early Saturday morning, January 24, 2004, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Lois for 60 years, father of Joanne (James) Gilleland of Burlington and Kristin (Michael) Atki ns of Clinton, grandfather of Jeffrey (Shannon) Gilleland, Jennifer Gilleland (Bruce Nicol), and David Atkins (Jennifer Picard). Bert was grateful for a full and happy life. He grew up in Beamsville where he was born to Joseph and Anne Filce. He serv ed in the Air Force in WWII from 1940 - 1945. He was attached to the R.A.F. serving in Egypt and Malta with 37 Squadron. In 1945 he began operating Filce Beauty Shoppe which his mother had started about 1926. He retired in 1978. Bert was a lifelong m ember of St. Alban's Anglican Church, member and past president of Twenty Valley Golf Club, Royal Canadian Legion Br. 612, Ivy Lodge #115 and Grimsby Bridge Club. Bert volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Albright Manor and the Beamsville Seniors. DIBBS, M. Ruth Retired Statistics Canada Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre on Friday, January 23rd in her 73rd year. The daughter of the late Marian and Sandy Nicholson, Ruth was born in Saskatchewan and was educated at the Universities of Toronto, New Brunswick and the London School of Economics. Following her marriage in England in 1955, she and her husband Hugh lived in Oxford for two years where she worked at the Oxford University Institute of Statistics. In 1957 they moved to Ottawa where Ruth took time out from the labour force while she raised her family and made voluntary contributions to the community. She then joined Statistics Canada where, for over twenty years, she enjoyed an interesting and stimulating career. In her retirement, Ruth was able to enjoy her grandchildren, her garden and travelling with her husband. She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Hugh, three children, Susan (Ken McGregor), Ian Dibbs (Denyse Roberts) and Janet Dibbs (Michael Laming), seven grandchildren, a sister, Mary Anna Higgins and a brother Al Nicholson (Evelyn Marshall) and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Respecting Ruth's wishes, there will be a private family memorial service. Friends may come to pay their respects on Saturday, January 31st from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2313 Carling Avenue, Ottawa. Many thanks to the dedication and care of the nurses and doctors at the Ottawa Hospital and the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre.
