Odelie Richard 1915 - 2004 RICHIBUCTO, NB - Odelie Richard wife of the late Ovila Richard (1963) passed away at La Villa Maria, St. Louis de Kent on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the age of 88. Born in Richibucto, NB she was the daughter of the late William Blanchard and Helene (Daigle) Blanchard. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by her extended family of 40 years. Angelina LeBlanc, Jackie LeBlanc, John LeBlanc (Polly-Anne) all of Richibucto, Angela LeBlanc of St. Louis de Kent, Kevin LeBlanc of Bathurst, Freddy LeBlanc (Francine) of Ottawa, ON and several nieces and nephews. Remains are resting at Thompson's Funeral Home, Richibucto, NB with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm as well as Wednesday noon until time of funeral. Funeral mass will be held from St. Louis de Gonzague Roman Catholic Church, Richibucto, NB on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 2:00 pm. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil cinq filles: Paula (Elzéar Roy) de Saint-Eustache, QC, Paulette (Emery Robert) et Murielle (Kenneth Noël), toutes deux de Losier Settlement, Marilyne (Roger Losier) et Loula (Jean-Claude McLaughlin), toutes deux de Tracadie-Sheila; une soeur, Hélène de Victoria, C.-B.; deux demi-soeurs: Anne d’Epiphanie, QC et Léonie de Montréal, QC; dix petits-enfants: Christian et Dale Robert, Mélanie et Jasmin Roy, Wanda, Danny et Sophie Noël, Lison Losier, Jennie et Amélie McLaughlin; six arrière-petits-enfants: Marika, Justin, Noémie, Audrey, Charlie et Tristan, ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères et belles-soeurs. WILLIAM (ZOCK) ARCHIE William (Zock) Archie, 39, of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont., passed away tragically at his residence on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. He was born Feb. 4, 1964 in Rainy River, Ont. Zock lived most of his life in Big Grassy. While growing up, he attended numerous elementary schools and later attended high school in Rainy River. He enjoyed trapping and fishing in the area over the years with his family and friends. Zock was a certified small engine mechanic, and helped many people in the community with odd jobs. He also liked visiting people and helping them with any kind of work that needed to be done. At home, Zock loved playing cards and Scrabble with his brothers. He was very easy-going, and was well-liked and respected by all in the area. Zock is leaving us with happy memories and will be sadly missed by all. He was predeceased by his father, William Copenace; grandparents, Ben and Jane Copenace and Jean Archie; and two brothers, Ted Archie and Wilfred James Archie. Zock is survived by his mother, Susan Archie of Winnipeg, Man.; three brothers, Richard Brown of St. Paul, Mn., and Jamie Archie (Louise G. Morrison) and Derek Archie, all of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont.; and three sisters, Lena Archie of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont., Cheryl Archie of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Mary Big George of Big Island First Nation, Ont. Also surviving are his aunties, Lollie, Jenny, Christine, Lena, Melvina, Rosemary, Sharon, Brenda, Audrey, Rhonda, and Bernadine; uncles, Leslie, Alvin, Ernie, Jazz, and Noel; as well as other numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. A traditional burial ritual was held Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation band hall. Elder Fred Kelly officiated, with interment in Big Grassy First Nation Cemetery. A wake was held Sunday evening at the Big Grassy First Nation band hall. Pallbearers were John Copenace, Noel Comegan, Thomas Morrison, Rod Traverse, Stan Jack Sr., and Tom Jack. ELSIE MURIEL MILLER Elsie Miller, 76, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. She was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Fort Frances to the late Albert and Ella Tracy Wood. Elsie lived all of her life in Fort Frances. On March 6, 1947, she was united in marriage to Joseph Miller. She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church and of the St. John’s Guild. She also was a member of the Order of the Royal Purple Lodge #139. Elsie was avid about crocheting and knitting. She also loved her flowers, her garden, and cooking for her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Miller, on March 23, 2000; her brother, Henry; and by her two sisters, Myrtle and Edna. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Terry) Gaul of Orleans, Ont.; sons, Douglas of Surrey, B.C. and Gary (Renee) Miller of Thunder Bay, Ont.; daughter, Carol (Mike) Johnson of Russell, Ont.; and son, David (Gwen) of Fort Frances, Ont. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tracy Gaul, Katrina, Jamie, Tyler, Tiffany, Michelle, Christopher (Faye), Joshua, and Jordan Miller, and Zachary and Caitlin Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also is survived by one brother, Carl Wood of Deka Lake, B.C.; five sisters, Helen Sterling of Calgary, Alta., Maria Erickson of British Columbia, Irene Beer of Thunder Bay, Ont., Annie Willis of Atikokan, Ont., and Beatrice (Art) Wood of Fort Frances, Ont. She was an avid tennis and badminton player, participated in her church choir, was enthusiastic about collecting antiques and shopping for the finer things in life. CHASITY CARRIERE On Friday morning, January 16, 2004, Chasity (Chas) Cadena Carriere lost her hard fought battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Chris Bennie and her five year old daughter, Jayde (her pride and joy); parents, Marlene Carriere and Brian Crate; sister Charmaine and brother Jeremy; brothers-in-law, Tyler Bennie, Tyson Kirton; sister-in-law Christina and her husband Phil; niece Harmony; nephew Justice; maternal grandfather Roger Carriere Sr.; paternal grandmother Bella Evans; in laws, Jack and Linda Bennie, Elaine and Morrie Stearn; Aunties, Bev (Kevin), Gail, Elaine and Brenda Carriere; Uncles, Leonard and Roger (Sherri) Carriere II; Cousins, Ashley, Robyn, Raven, Caitlan, David, Geoffrey, Blair, Roger III, Curtis and Mark Carriere; Aunties, Rachel (Fiddler), Lorraine and Elaine Crate; Uncles, Clifford, Louis, Ronnie and Gregory Crate, Donald Fiddler; cousins, aunts and uncles from Cumberland House, SK and Norway House, MB.; godparents, Evelyn McKenzie, Clyde Thomas of Cumberland House, SK; close friends, Ricki, Onalee and Morrie; as well as many other friends and acquaintances. Chas was born in Prince Albert, SK on November 2, 1975. She was a beautiful person, a free spirit, adventurous, loved exploring and experimenting with life. She was a tomboy, a cheerleader, loved being the centre of attention and loved hip-hop dancing. She loved roller skating in her teenage years; her friends called her Wheelie Queen. Some of her other nicknames included: Miss Piggy, Miss Prissy, Chuckles, Princess Bling Bling, Miss Hollywood and Caddy. Chasity was honoured with her spirit name, Morning Skywoman. She had the deepest respect for her Kookums and Shooms. Throughout her short life, she lived in Prince Albert, SK; Cumberland House, SK; Winnipeg, MB; Flin Flon, MB; Victoria, BC and returning to Winnipeg, MB to settle down with her family. Chas graduated from Grant Park High School in 1994. Chas met her husband Chris Bennie in August 1994. During their courtship, their friends would call them Caddy and Benz. They were known in the city as part of the Shade Acres Crew. On August 11, 2000 Chas and Chris were married in Winnipeg surrounded by their parents, friends and all their relations. After Jayde was born on October 21, 1998, Chas attended University of Manitoba. In January 2003, her illness forced her to withdraw from her courses. Her goal was to achieve a degree and give back to the Opaskwayak Cree Nation who helped support her through university. Chas enjoyed her acting classes she was taking with coach Onalee Ames. In the past couple of years, Chasity connected with the butterfly kingdom. She not only saw them as beautiful and carefree, she recognized them as a symbol of transformation which meant to her as letting go of the old ways of doing things and accepting new ways to move on in life. Wake services take place at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB on Monday, January 19 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight and Tuesday, January 20 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight.
