MARY ALICE LUSSIER Peacefully on January 17, 2004, Mary Alice Lussier (nee Kinahan) went home to be with her beloved husband Rosario. Throughout her 87 years, Mary bore witness to her role as wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Ross; her parents, Vincent and Sadie Kinahan and her brother Eugene. She is survived by her two sons, Don (Joy) and Rick (Stephanie); her three granddaughters, Stephanie, Claire and Aimee; her siblings, Margaret, Lorrie, John and Tom and her special friend Jeanette. Forever the teacher, Mary spent many years educating children in the Catholic school system at both St. Edwards and St. Ignatius. Mary enjoyed reading, she loved to travel and to share dinner around the kitchen table with her family. Famous for BBQ chicken, her sweet and sour pork buttons, and her teenie-weenie sandwiches, Memere will be forever immortalized in our family by the now common size-designation of a "Memere piece" of dessert. Mary battled Parkinson's disease with the utmost dignity, without complaint for 20 years. The trial of this disease, however, never once diminished her Irish spirit, and her trademark smile could fill a room, and the people in it, with joy. Mary was known for this beautiful smile, even as a young woman, and it helped make her many new friends at Lions Manor, where she felt very comfortable and loved by her wonderful caregivers. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Lions Manor for going above and beyond in their loving care of Mom and of us in the last two weeks of her life. For all those who loved her best at Lions, we thank you and will remember you. A celebration of her exemplary life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church, 818 Arlington St., with Father Louis McClosky, celebrant. Gladys was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas and Sophia LaForce; predeceased by her husband Esmonde W. Jamieson, her son Jeffery J. Jamieson, her brother Colin M. LaForce, and her sister Shirley Shade (Normand); survived by her daughters Joyce Kerschbaum (Hubert) of Michigan, U. S. MATTRESS, Earl Edward, Passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 17, 2004 aged 86 years. Predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (December 3, 2003), and a daughter Cherilyn (February 13, 1961). Survived by his daughter Judy, sisters-in-law Isabelle Smith (London), Donalda Spencer (Waterloo), Thelma Gray (Millbank), and many nieces and nephews. Earl was a member and former Steward of Elm Street United Church, Merritton. He was a Veteran of World War II and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138, Merritton. The family will receive their friends at the KARL A. DOUCETTE, Joseph W. - 79, Dartmouth, died January 17, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Cape St. Mary, Digby Co., he was the son of the Late Bertie and Elizabeth (Saulnier) Doucette. He was a veteran the Second World War fighting in the Italian Campaign and helped to liberate Holland. He was a member of the West Novies, a sniper in action and a dispatch writer. He stayed a year in Germany's occupation force after the war ended. He was a past president of the Harvey Branch Legion in Stoney Creek, Ont. Joe was an accomplished guitarist playing at many festivals and dances with his wife Stella, entertaining at senior homes throughout Nova Scotia. Joe and Stella were married for 57 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Stella Rose LeBlanc; daughter, Linda Marie (Kenneth) Conrad, Dartmouth; sons, Richard Joseph Doucette, Brantford, Ont.; Roy Raymond (Nancy) Doucette, Hamilton, Ont.; sisters, Eva Mitchell, Irene Chaisson and Leona Macleod, all of Dartmouth; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Annie and Lucille. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, January 22, in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church Hall, Father Dariusz Misiolek officiating. Burial at a later date.
