LEONA ALARIE (nee SABOURIN) Paisiblement, entouree de son epoux et de ses enfants, est decedee Leona Alarie, le 12 decembre 2003 a l'age de 71 ans. Elle laisse dans le deuil son mari Celestin et ses cinq enfants, Diane (Raymond Desrochers), Gisele (Gilbert Verrier), Pauline (Kevin VanDeWalker), Robert (Maryvonne) et Claudette (Blair Harrison), ainsi que neuf petits-fils et neuf petites-filles. Elle laisse aussi quatre soeurs et deux freres, plusieurs belles-soeurs, beaux-freres, neveux, nieces et amis chers. Leona etait la cadette d'une famille de treize enfants, jumelle de Leon. Elle a toujours ete devouee a son epoux et a sa famille. A l'ete, nous avons eu le bonheur de celebrer ensemble leur 50e anniversaire de mariage. Sa passion pour la musique etait evidente dans son amour pour le violon, le piano et le chant. Leona trouvait sa force et son inspiration grace a sa foi fervente en Dieu, perpetuee en nous. Plusieurs l'ont connu pour son amour sans pareil. Sinceres remerciements au personnel du Centre Tache. Un merci tout speciale au docteur K. Coates. La messe des funerailles sera celebree le mercredi 17 decembre a 14h en la Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface suivie d'une reception. Leona was the youngest of a family of 13 children, twin of Leon. She was a loving wife and a caring mother. We happily celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 20. She had a lifelong passion for music. Leona enjoyed playing the piano, violin and singing. Her great faith in God gave Leona strength and inspiration; this is her legacy to us all. She loved unconditionally and touched so many lives. We wish to thank the staff at Tache Centre for the compassionate care given to Leona. A special thanks to Dr. K. Coates. GILCHRIST, RONALD K. -Passed away after a brief illness, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 11th, 2003. Husband of Marjorie L. (Kyffin) Gilchrist of Darlings Island, NB. Born in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late John and Hazel Gilchrist. Ronald was employed with M&P Electrical and LITECO for many years. During his retirement he worked part time for Leisure Time Sales. Ronald was a member of the Hampton Hoe Downers, the Sportsman Club, The Quispamsis Bowling League and the Quispamsis Slow Pitch League for 27 years. Ronald was also an avid golfer and loved trailering. Surviving in addition to his wife Marjorie are his sons Mark (Sandra), David and Chris (Elaine), daughters, Tanya (Bruse) Askeland, Lori-Ann (Frank) McDade, Jodie-Ann (Michael) Ketchum and Kim (Michael) Robichaud, nine grandsons, two granddaughters, two great granddaughters, brothers, Doug, Bill, Arthur, and Ralph, sister Barbara, nieces and nephews. LAKE, ROLAND EDGAR (ROLIE) Roland Edgar Lake of Canada Street, Fredericton, died on December 12, 2003 at the Oromocto Public Hospital after a lengthy illness. The son of Annie (Fellows) and George Lake, he was born in Newcastle, NB on June 18, 1926. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Emily. He is survived by his sister Barbara and Everett Patterson and several nephews, all of Fredericton. The family is very grateful to the doctors and staff of the Oromocto Public Hospital, including the William R. Duffie Unit, and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital; Dr. Peter Fraser; Gladys McKay, his caregiver of the last twenty years; Jobs Unlimited and the staff of Finney Electric; the late Ruth (Goofy Roofy) and Stephen Chappell and the many friends who took an interest in Roland throughout his life. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on York Street with Ven. JOHNSON, GRACE ELIZABETH - Peacefully, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on Friday December 12, 2003, Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Johnson, wife of the late Irwin J. Johnson. Born in Hampton, NB on November 25, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Walter and Grace (Redstone) Wilson. A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Grace is survived by one son, Gordon ( Louise Clare ) of Blacks Harbour, NB, one grandson, Kaleb Johnson, one granddaughter, Kate Johnson, all of Blacks Harbour, one brother, Laurin (Gladys) of Rothesay, NB, one sister, Faith Edwards (Beverly) of Darlings Island, NB, several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Irwin, she was predeceased by three brothers, Bernard, Charles, and Edward, and one sister, Annie. Grace was devoted to her faith, family, and friends. She was a member, of the Calvary United Baptist Church Choir, for more than fifty years, a member of the Womens Missionary Society, and the Willing Workers. She doted on her grandchildren and loved to travel. She was an avid gardener, and loved flowers. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB (755-3533), with visiting on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held at The Calvary United Baptist Church on Monday December 15, 2003, at 2:00 pm., with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. DUBEC, PAUL - The death of Paul Dubec, husband of Esther (Coggan) Dubec, of Saint John and Toronto, occurred on December 12, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Thunder Bay, ON, he was the son of the late Samuel and Dorothy Dubec. Paul served during World War II with the Merchant Marines and spent the greater part of his life sailing on the Great Lakes. Besides his wife he is survived by his brother Michael of Thunder Bay, ON, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His half-brothers John Sokoloski, Fort William, ON, Bill Sokoloski, California, Steve Sokoloski, Fort William, ON, Harry Sokoloski, Fort William, ON, Metro Dubec, Thunder Bay, ON, and his sister Mary McCormack, Forest, ON, predeceased him. WELLS, Daryl Frederick, Peacefully with his family by his side, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on December 12, 2003. Loving husband of Marian. Devoted father of Dana, Daryl J. (Joyce) and Wendy (Kevin). Dear step-father of Michael (Cindy), Kelly (Joe) and Jeffrey (Jennifer). Grandfather of Brandon and Kiefer. Great-grandfather of Alissia. Brother of Velda Scobie (Colin). Born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1922, Wells entered the broadcast business as a disc jockey at age 15. He came east several years later, working in the sports department of radio station CHML in Hamilton in the 1940's and '50's and later as a sports director for CHCH-TV. For the next 30 years, thousands of thoroughbred horse racing fans at Woodbine relied o n the race calls of Daryl Wells. Fans would often imitate his familiar, "They're off", trademark call when the gates opened. He was also a member of the St. Catharines Club, and a life time member of the Actra Performers Guild. He will be sadly misse d by many family and friends who knew and loved him. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the GNGH for your care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. STAMP, Rosemarie (nee Campigotto) - Passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Saturday, December 13, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer, Rosemarie Stamp of Nioagara Falls at the age of 69. HOVEY, PHYLLIS MARGARET The death of Phyllis Margaret Hovey, wife of the late Melvin Hovey, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday December 13, 2003. Born at home in Marysville, N.B., Phyllis was the daughter of the late Ritchie and Margaret (McManus) Gorman. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Phyllis was a member of the Marysville United Church, Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading her history, biography and poetry books, enjoyed bridge, music, and had a love of nature. She is survived by two sons: Richard J. Hovey and Kevin M. Hovey (Vickie) of Nashwaak Bridge, NB; two daughters: Marcia McLellan (Fred) of Taymouth NB and Carolyn Scott (Jim) of Charlottetown PEI; a brother, James Gorman (Jean) of Parksville BC; a sister, Dorothy Wright (William) of Hanwell NB; a sister in-law, Irma Wilson (Jack) of Fredericton, NB; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she is predeceased by one brother, Ritchie "Buddy" Gorman. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home 302 Brookside Dr. Fredericton on Monday from 7 to 9 pm. FERRIS, CEDRIC (BOB) - The Death of Bob Ferris occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 13th, 2003. Born in Saint John, NB. He was the son of the late William and Marie (Kyffin) Ferris. Bob is survived by his loving wife Dorothy (Nilsson) four sons, William (Linda) of Saint John, Paul Ferris and Teri (Knudson) of Saint John, Martin and Sam of Saint John and Robert of Moncton, one daughter, Debra and Derek (Goguen) of Rothesay, Bob was also survived by nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, William and Donald and an aunt Agnes Small. STANLEY, JEAN (MADDEN) MARSHALL - Jean (Madden) Marshall Stanley 86; of North Head, Grand Manan, N.B. passed away on Saturday morning at the Grand Manan Hospital, December 13th, 2003. Born in South Maitland, N.S. on June 20th, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Alice Madden, and much loved daughter-in-law of the late Mr. and Mrs. Percy Marshall, of Paradise, Annapolis County, N.S. Mrs. Stanley was a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Yarmouth, N.S., where she trained and later graduated as an R.N. After working there for several years, she accepted a position at the Annapolis Regional Hospital, Annapolis Royal, N.S. In 1956 she accepted a position at the Grand Manan Hospital on Grand Manan Island, N.B. where she worked for the next twenty-five years until her retirement in 1982. Mrs. Stanley was a member of the N.B. Nurses Association, the N.B. Senior Citizens Federation, The Grand Manan Museum, the North Head Wesleyan Church, the North Head Wesleyan Ladies Missionaries Society as well as being very active in the circle of her special friends at Rotary Isle Estates. She is survived by her daughter Joan Marshall Cannings R.N. of Toronto, Ont., one grandson Richard Cannings of Calgary, Alta., one granddaughter Ella Rebanks (Alex) of Toronto, Ont., as well as one great granddaughter Zuleika Rebanks of Toronto, Ont. Mrs. Stanley was predeceased by her husband Hollis Stanley in 1998. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, December 16th, at the North Head Wesleyan Church, North Head, Grand Manan, at 2-4, 7-9 PM from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Charles Bain officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot in the North Head Community Cemetery.
