Proud and loved Baba of Matthew, Christopher, Sammi, Richie, Candice, Adrienne, Heather, David, Michelle, Kevin, Amy, Lindsey, Kyle, Katy, Amanda, Rebecca, Nicholas, Victoria, Melissa, Jessica and great-baba of Alexander. Born June 21, 1921. WWII Veteran, 17th Duke of York's Royal Canadian Hussars. Retired Branch Parts Manager of Frigidaire Canada. It is with deepest sorrow the family announces Don's passing in Montreal on Saturday, December 13, 2003, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of fifty-four years, Agnes Eckersley. Cherished father of Valerie and Carolyn (Mrs. Philip Belleville) of Guelph, Ontario. Adored Granddad of Peter Donald Di Cesare of Guelph. Devoted brother of Jean Wilkes. Predeceased by sister Barbara White, Ella Reade and Myrtle Parker, and brothers George and Joe. At Don's request, there will be no visitation, but a memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. BELLEROSE, Marilyn Joanne (Mandy)-In loving memory, September 30, 1941-December 15, 003. Mandy Bellerose, a resident of Providence Bay, died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Monday, December 15, 2003 at the age of 62 years. She was born in Carnarvon Township, daughter of the late Albert and Anne (McFarlane) Davis. Mandy had worked with the developmentally handicapped for over 15 years. She enjoyed bingo, going to casino's, crosswords and knitting. Her greatest love and the most pleasure she had in her life was her family. Although she will be sadly missed, many fond memories will be cherished by her entire family and friends. DEVEAU, Norma-94, 121 Maxwelton Rd., Meteghan Centre, Digby Co., passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence, on Monday, December 15, 2003. Norma was the eldest of 13 children and was born on July 13, 1909, to the late Jean William Deveau and Laura Thibodeau. Her father, Jean William Deveau was the son of Jean Deveau, and his mother was Maguet Smith of Hectanooga, Digby Co. Norma was baptized on July 18, 1909, in the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption, Chelsea, Mass., and was married to Mr. Victor V. Capes on March 1, 1930, by Rev. J Kierman according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church and in conformity with the laws of the State of New York. Mrs. Deveau is survived by her daughter, Ms. Lidwine H. Heroux, Meteghan Centre, formerly of Brunswick, Ga.; her son, Mr. Charles W. Capes, Mildford, Conn.; sister, Helen Smith, Berwick. Norma has three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mrs. Norma Deveau was a pioneer in her generation by working and becoming the first female to be accepted into the International Typographical Union and the Communication Workers of America. She also founded the New Horizons Seniors Club in Meteghan and was a lifetime member of the the New Horizons Club in Weymouth. Norma was always pursuing her creative talents in teaching others how to paint, crochet, knit, and was always willing to give to various charitable organizations even when she was not always able to afford to. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Stella Maris Church, Meteghan, Rev. BARTHELOT, PHILIP EDWARD SR.-The death of Mr. Philip E. Barthelot Sr. of Paddock St., Saint John, NB husband of the late Helen (Power) Barthelot, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, December 15, 2003. He was born in Quebec in 1922. Philip was an adherent of the Church of St. John and St. Stephen. He served as a Gunner in the 22nd. Field Battery Artillery. One of Philip's greatest passions in life was fishing. He had many fond memories fishing at Pugsley Wharf, Musquash and Lily Lake. Philip is survived by seven children, all of Saint John, NB: Philip Jr. (Sybil), David, Wayne, Barbara (Mrs. Bill Knox), Phyllis (Mrs. Glen) Lynch, Diane (Mrs. Gary Yeo), and Rose (Mrs. Wayne Richards) as well as 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. DEMERS, Eugene "Mookie"-At North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, after a brief illness with cancer, Monday, December 15, 2003 in his 85th year. Dearly loved father of Louis Demers (Diane), Marc (Marvel), Paul (Gisele) all of North Bay and Victor and Claude Demers (Karen) all of Stoney Creek. Lovingly remembered by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dear brother of Laurette Power, Eloise Dewar and Claudette Demers. Predeceased by his parents Marie-Anna and Joseph Demers, sisters, Lilliane Demers and Fernande Newton, brothers Antonio "Tony" and Guy. Eugene served in World War II, Perth Regiment 1st Division 1939-1945 with his brother Antonio. He was the only Canadian soldier to be awarded the Bronze Lion Medal by Queen Whilhemina of Holland. Eugene served overseas in the Italian Campaign and in Holland, France and Germany. He was store clerk for the ONR, retiring after 32 years of service and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 445, Callander. Eugene had a great love for the outdoors, animals and gardening. GARY LEROY THOMPSON Gary Leroy Thompson passed away suddenly Nov. 16, 2003 at the age of 65. He was born and raised in International Falls, Mn., then moved to Port Alberni, B.C. in 1966. Gary was predeceased by his father, Anton (1996); and loyal companion, Bandit (2003). He is survived by his loving family, mother, Mildred, mother-in-law, Polly, sister, Trudy (Frank) Dunn, and brother, Terry (Barb), all of Minnesota; his loving wife, Sandy (Kingerski); son, Jim (Colette); daughter, Janice (Brian) Hill; grandchildren, James, Bryan, Courtney, and Rhys; as well as many more close relatives and friends. Growing up in International Falls, Gary was an avid hockey and football player. After high school graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Navy. Gary spent five years steam-fitting at the Boise Cascade pulp and paper mill in International Falls, then moved to British Columbia in 1966, where he worked at Alberni Pulp and Paper and the Somass Mill until he retired in 1999. He spent many of his working years involved in the IWA executive. He also spent a brief period farming in Alberta. Gary was a dedicated soccer, hockey, and baseball coach, and also was very active with the Parksville & Qualicum Fish and Game Association. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and antique gun collector. A funeral service for family and friends was held Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension of Parksville, B.C. A celebration of Gary’s life followed at the Arrowsmith Hall in Coombs, B.C.

Outre sa mère, il laisse dans le deuil sa femême, Juliette (Arseneau) Frenette; un frère, Charles (Lisette Boudreau) de Petit-Rocher; une fille, Nathalie Melanson (Casey) de Petit-Rocher; sept frères: Norbert (Denise) et Valmond (Solange Haché), tous deux de Petit-Rocher, Omer (Anne Marie), Raymond (Claudine) et Jocelyn (Florence), tous de Robertville, Even (Viola Huard) de Nigadoo et Bertrand de Sormany; trois soeurs: Noella Doucet (Henri) de Nigadoo, Angele Witzell (Laurent) de Sormany et Gisèle Vienneau (René de Sainte-Rosette; quatre petites-filles: Shanel, Vanessa, Milaine et Amelie, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Une soeur, Antoinette, ainsi qu’un frère en bas âge, Bertrand, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Frenette a été arpenteur (de mine) pour la majeure partie de sa vie. Il n’y aura pas de visites à la maison funéraire. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption à Nicholas Denys, le mardi 16 décembre, à 19h. SISTER ELIZABETH FLEURY (Sister Emma St-Gabriel) Sister Elizabeth, born October 19, 1910 at Oxbow, SK died December 12, 2003 at the Victoria Hospital. She is survived by her sister Beatrice of Stoughton, SK and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Sarah (England); two brothers, John and David; nine sisters, Marguerite, Ada, Lea, Florence, Mary, Rose, Bernadette, Hazel and Marie Anne and by some of her numerous nieces and nephews. As a child, Sister Elizabeth was fascinated by the missionary who came regularly to celebrate mass in her home. This love of God inspired her to enter the sisterhood as a Fille de la Croix. Her two years of formation were spent at La Puye, France. Upon her return to Canada, she devoted her time to 35 years of teaching in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Sister Elizabeth loved life. She loved nature, her students, and her beloved Saskatchewan. To her, nature was beauty, beauty to be captured and held. Her students, especially the boys in her woodwork class, were jewels she kept as lasting memories. Saskatchewan was her pride and joy; it's mention would put a smile on her face. She enjoyed all that life would offer her. Besides her classroom duties, she took an active part in teaching catechism on Saturdays, after school and during the holidays. She was also an active member of the C.W.L., taking on certain convenorships. She also enjoyed participating in church choirs. With her students, she was kind, understanding, and determined to meet success. She was undaunted by any challenge. Upon her retirement from the classroom, her love of people and her compassion continued to inspire her to volunteer her services at the Esterhazy, SK Centennial Care Home for many years. She will be missed by her only surviving sister, les Filles de la Croix, and her nieces and nephews whom she dearly cherished. We will miss her sense of humour, her friendliness and her smile. We wish to acknowledge the compassion and loving care offered by the nursing staff of the Provincial House and at the Victoria Hospital as well as the home care staff while she was still at home. Prayer service for Sister Elizabeth will be shared at the Provincial House of les Filles de la Croix, 66 Moore Ave. in St. Vital on Monday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the same address the following day, Tuesday, December 16 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place in the St. Adolphe Parish Cemetery. CORMIER, Frank J. In loving memory of Frank J. Cormier, 89 years, who passed away Sunday morning, December 14th, 2003 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital-St. Joseph's Health Centre. Born in Lunenburg, he had enjoyed 45 years of marriage with Millie. Frank served with the Canadian Army in World War II and during the Korean War. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He had a strong will and never complained. Frank was always ready to help anyone and if he wasn't enjoying the sunshine, his greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
