Gammon, Cecil Earl At his residence at the Sunnybrook Veterans Wing in Toronto on Saturday December 6, 2003. Cecil Earl Gammon in his 79th year. Predeceased by his wife Paula Wardrope Gammon (nee Brown). Beloved father to Vallee Gammon of Kamloops, B.C., Willo Goulet of Hornepayne, Krista Hlady of Barrie and Trayton Gammon of Kelowna, B.C. Beloved brother to Olie Reid of Vancoughnet and Teddy Hietela of Oakville. Predeceased by his brothers Bill, Bubbs and Charlie Gammon. Beloved grandfather to Trevor, Travis & Taylor Goulet and Adam and Aaron Hlady. The family will receive friends at the W. J. Cavill Funeral Home in Gravenhurst on Thursday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel on Thursday December 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place. HIGGINS, WALTER EARNEST Passed away the morning of December 4, 2003 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie at the age of 85 with his wife Nancy at his side. Wonderful husband of Nancy (McCaig) Higgins, and proud father of Lawrence Higgins and the Late Jimmie (McCaig) Higgins. Fondly remembered by his loving sister Ena Oxner and his many nephews and nieces in both Canada and the USA. Active in business since his early years, playing key roles in the dairy business in Halifax (Westmount Dairy), and the grocery business in Oshawa (IGA). Later formed his own investment firm, and remained involved in Real Estate in both the Toronto, and Barrie areas to the present. Distinguished WWII veteran, Major Higgins (retired), landed Juno Beach at dawn "D-Day". Served with the Halifax Rifles/23rd Armored Tank, and later acted as 2IC of the Ontario Tank Regiment (Oshawa). Family and friends will be received at the NEWBIGGING FUNERAL HOME, 733 Mt. Pleasant Road just South of Eglington Ave. on the East Side , on Tuesday, 9 December 2003, between 7:00pm to 9:00pm, (416-489-8811). PARKER, Stephen Joseph 1964-2003 On Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the age of 39. Beloved husband of Deborah Dauncey-Parker. Dear son of Glen Parker and Anne Vincent (Parker), father of Alicia and Bailey, brother of Patty (Keith Berry), Katherine (Jo hn Garrah), Lisa (Andy Bryson), and pre-deceased by his brother Michael. Also survived by his nephews and nieces, Jacob, Katelyn, Ashley, Adam, Cole and his goddaughter Melanie Prevost. Stephen worked at Public Works and Government Services Canada as the Lead Tester and Information Support Coordinator for the National Maintenance Management System and the National Service Call Centre. Stephen, a well respected team player, was known not only for his love of cars, but also for his enthusiasm, his spirit of cooperation and the dedication he brought with him each and every day in the work place. Stephen was born in Fredericton New Brunswick and resided in Aylmer Quebec with his wife for the past 6 years. AIME JOSEPH ALLAIRE It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Aime Allaire at the St. Boniface Hospital on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at the age of 71 years. His father Leo and his mother Elodie predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife Daisy; sisters, Stella Dreger, Vivian Nightingale, Claudette Slobodian, Louise Vanbelleghen (Roger), Lorraine Trudeau (Wilf); and his brother Roger (Beth). He also leaves to mourn in his passing, his children, Ron (Ida) and Brenda (Darrell); his grandchildren, Michael, Rachelle, Trevor and Derek; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. One of Aime's lifelong passions was hockey. Dad's biggest ambition was to have some new arenas built in St. Boniface. After he had accomplished that, he acquired the St. Boniface Mohawks Hockey Club. His dream was to get Winnipeg on the map for amateur senior hockey. Aime tried for many years to bring the Allen Cup to Winnipeg; unfortunately, he never succeeded. Aime was inducted into the Winnipeg Hall of Fame for his dedication to hockey in 2000. Dad's other great moments were spent on the golf course with his buddies throughout the sumêmer months and in the bowling alleys during the cold winter months. After a short retirement from Aim Sound Shop, the good Lord decided to bring Aime home. "You will be sadly missed by all of us, Dad." Funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Fred Olds at the St. Bernadette Parish Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd. in Windsor Park, on Wednesday, December 10 at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Winnipeg Firefighters and Paramedic Services for their care and compassion. ELLIOTT-EADIE, ANNIE IVY In her 97th year, Annie Ivy ELLIOTTEADIE affectionately called " Auntie Ivy" passed peacefully away at the York Manor after a period of failing health. Born in Kennington, London England June 26, 1906. At he age of 12 she moved to Montreal with her parents the late Walter and Emma "Langford" Elliott. She was the youngest of six sisters. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was married to the late WW 1 Veteran John Eadie (1891 - 1960) and resided in Westmount P.Q. Mrs. Eadie was both a nurse and seamstress by profession having worked at the Victoria General Hospital. She had a passion for interior decorating and made draperies for many Montreal Homes. Her love for animals saw her volunteer any spare time to the SPCA, after her retirement she devoted much of her time to the caring and well being of animals taken in to the SPCA Shelter. She was a devoted member of Westmounted Baptist Church transferring her membership to St Paul's United Church, Fredericton when she moved at the age of 88 to be under the care of her great nephew "Michael " & Joan Crowther. "Aunt Ivy" was most appreciative of the special care and devotion given to her by "her two nurses" Joan & Kara Crowther , through their love and acts of kindness "Ivy" adopted Fredericton as her special second home. During this period she resided at the North Minto Residence and the last several years at York Manor Nursing Home. The family have high praise for the "special care" she received over the past nine years. The funeral service will be held at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home at 2PM, Wednesday December 10, 2003 with Rev. Dr. David Fisher of St. Paul's United Church officiating. BARIL, Gabrielle (Hetu) 1910-2003 On December 08, 2003, Gabrielle Baril of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years. Gabrielle was born August 03, 1910 in Joliette, Quebec, moving at a young age with her parents to Bonnyville, Alberta. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her and cherished her life's journey. Gabrielle is survived by her children: Diane (Lucien) Paradis, Arthur (Theresa) Baril, Philip (Victoria) Baril, and Denise (Bernard) Bryden. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Michelle, Raymond, Denise, Mark, Margot, Kenneth, Carmen, Paul, Lynn, and Lise, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends. God has blessed us with a Mother full of beauty and grace. Thank you for enriching our lives with your gifts of strength, wisdom, courage, faith, hope, and love. We are comforted knowing that we have one more angel in heaven watching over us. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Francis Baril in 1975, two brothers Lucien Hetu 1973, and Arthur Dalpee, her sisters Irene Dumont 1990 and Lucienne Baril 1938 and by her parents Cordelia Marsolais and Henri Hetu. BRIAN DION February 15, 1946-December 7, 2003 Surrounded by the love of his family, Brian was given the gift of passing away peacefully at his home, on December 7, 2003. Left to carry on his memory, his wife Irene; sons, Jason and his wife Emily and Kevin; mother and father-in-law, Dan and Dorothy Imlah; sister Doreen (Ken) Osinski; brother David (Leanne) Dion; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn Romphf, Sharon (Dave) Matheson, Daniel (Barb) Imlah, Joanne Imlah (Shane); along with many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Mary Dion. Brian dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending his time with them and the company of many longtime friends. He enjoyed collecting many toys and antiques, telling jokes, playing cards and being at home surrounded by nature. Brian spent most of his working life at John Deere in Fisher Branch, finishing his career at John Deere in Oak Bluff. Over the years he was well liked and respected by staff members, business associates and acquaintances. The family would like to send a special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and Palliative Care staff, both at the Health Sciences CancerCare Centre and Percy E. Moore Hospital, for all their care and compassion to Brian in his time of need. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 7:30 p.m. at Roman Catholic Church in Fisher Branch. Born in Moncton, son of the Late David and Mary Elizabeth (Thibault) Colwell. Ken was a retired C.N.R. Carman with 40 years service, having worked in Napadogan, South Devon and Moncton. He was a member of Gibson Memorial Church, Fredericton, where he was a former Elder, Head Usher, Men's Club member and Boys Group Leader. While in Riverview, he was a member of the Bridgedale Seniors, The Incredible Singing Group, an avid Bowler at Parklanes and attended The Salvation Army Citadel (Moncton) and was a member of the C.N. Pensioners Association. Ken will be sadly missed by his daughter: Eleanor Hutchinson (Fred), Bass River Point: Grandchildren: Brian Hutchinson (Lynn), Heather Warman (Lee), Bass River Point: Great Grandson: Evan Hutchinson: Step Great Granddaughter; Brooke Lawson. Brother: Gerald Colwell (Bernice), Durham Bridge: Brother-In-Law: Neil Astle, Dartmouth, NS: Nieces: Barbara Flaherty, Dartmouth: Joan Astle, Yellowknife, NW: Marie Colwell, Fredericton. Also survived by very special friend Muriel Smith, Riverview. Predeceased by his wife Doris (Cookson) Colwell (1970). For the past 2 years Ken has resided at Camden Park Terrace, where he enjoyed the companionship and love of residence and staff alike. He had a ready smile for everyone. Ken embodied the true meaning of gentleness. He loved little children and was a very loving father to "his Sally" and husband Fred and an extremely proud and doting Grandfather to his Grandchildren. In his retirement he loved driving his car, touring the countryside and taking in Fall Fairs, Suppers and Ivan Hicks Concerts. While his health allowed, he enjoyed bowling, singing with "The Incredibles", playing cards with the Bridgedale Seniors. As anyone can tell you he was a loyal Toronto Blue Jay Fan and followed them faithfully with an enthusiasm that continued until October of this year. Charles Kalt (Chad) Bowman FREDERICTON, NB - Professor Charles Kalt (Chad) Bowman, Department of Sociology (retired) died peacefully at home after two months of battle with cancer on Sunday, December 7, 2003. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota August 15, 1943, the only child of noted author and professor H.A. Bowman and social activist Edna (Kalt) Bowman. After graduation from Stephen F. Austin High School, Austin, Texas, Chad attended Oberlin College of Ohio for a year. He left his studies there to take the opportunity of traveling the world with his parents as they helped a variety of universities set up sociology programs in Australia, New Zealand and Europe. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, the top undergraduate U of T student of 1966. He went directly into an interdisciplinary Socio-Linguistics Ph.D program under the sponsorship of the prestigious Graham Fellowship. He married Mickie (Courson) Bowman in Austin in 1969. One part of the world Chad had never visited was New Brunswick. After seeing UNB's beautiful campus and meeting the Department of Sociology's fine staff, he joined the Department in 1971. Chad treasured his 29 years at UNB - his students, his colleagues, his friendships, his opportunity to write and research. His all-consuming activity was teaching and mentoring his students, but he found time to write reviews of scholarly works, monographs, and journal articles, and present invited papers. In 1993, he was one of the recipients of the Canadian Society For The Study Of Higher Education's National 'Sheffield Award' which recognizes the work of authors judged to be most excellent in the Canadian Journal of Higher Education. He retired from UNB in 2000. As well as travel, Chad loved poetry and music. He was an early member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Fredericton, and, in the 80's and 90's, produced some of the Society's most successful cabarets and main shows. He also supported, with enthusiasm, the New Brunswick High School Drama Festival and the Oromocto High School Drama and Music programs. Chad was predeceased by his grandparents, Reverend Charles and Ana (Knuckle) Kalt and Harold and Elizabeth (Hilton) Bowman; his parents; his uncle, Dr. Robert and aunt, Gladys (Ewalt) Bowman; his uncle, Dr. Charles Kalb, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Betty (Courson) Cambron. He is survived by his wife, Mickie; sister-in-law, Norma (Randall) Allmon of Phoenix, Arizona; brother-in-law, W. Thomas (Marilyn) Courson of Columbus, Ohio; brother-inlaw, M. Lee Courson (Carbondale, Illinois); seven nieces and nephews-inlaw; and goddaughter D'Arcy Walsh (Ottawa, Ontario). In accordance with Chad's wishes, no funeral service nor visitation will be held. Mrs. DesRoches was an active member of the Marie de Colette, she was cheftaine for the Girl Guides (Scouts) for the Collette Parish for many years. She was doing volunteer work in her community. "Florence was and will be an inspiration to her children that she loved dearly and for all the persons who knew her." The family is now receiving visitors at La Colombe in Rogersville. The funeral service will be held at the NotreDame-de-Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Collette, on Wednesday, December 10 at 4 pm. WHARTON, INA FRANCES - Ina (Sinton) Wharton passed away at the Church of St. John St. Stephen Home, University Avenue, Saint John, on Saturday, December 6th, 2003. She was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in River Hebert, NS and later moving to West Branch, Kent Co., NB, as a young child, she was the wife of the late Frank (Skip) Wharton and daughter of the late John and Alice (Vance) Sinton. Ina worked at T.S. Simms Brush Factory until her retirement. Ina was always happy when she was surrounded by her family. Ina is survived by one son, Ronald Wharton (Betty) and six daughters, Shirley McManus (Barry), Carol Logan (Keith), Sheila Knudsen, Gloria Clark, all of Saint John, NB, Diane Denton of Grand Bay-Westfield and Barbara Stein (Eric O'Neill) of Grand Manan Island, NB; two sisters, Jean Targett (Cecil) of Saint John, NB and Becky Allain (Fred) of Moncton, NB; twenty-three grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Auguste Bordage GRAND-DIGUE, NB - Auguste Bordage, 56, husband of Annette Bordage (Pelletier) of Route 530, Grand-Digue, passed away at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital Sunday, December 7, 2003 after a sudden illness. Born in Campbellton, NB on January 21, 1947, he was the son of Doris Bordage and Marguerite Henrie both of Acadieville. Auguste worked as an electrician for CNR for 28 years. He was a member of the Militia and attended La Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Grand-Digue. He was loved by family, friends and acquaintances who met him through the years. He will be sadly missed by all. Eleanor Ernestine (Tenie) Pinette 1919 - 2003 REXTON, NB - Ernestine Pinette, 84, of Rexton, NB, passed away at the Stella Maris Hospital, Ste. Anne de Kent, on Sunday evening, December 7, 2003 after a lengthy illness. She had been a resident of the Rexton Lions Nursing Home as of September 10, 2003. Born in South Branch, NB on June 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Hudson (McDonald). She attended St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in South Branch. Prior to her marriage, she worked and lived in Big Cove with her aunt and uncle who were School Teachers, where she also did teaching. She enjoyed saying the rosary, collecting bells and knitting socks. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Anthony Pinette; two sons, Francis (Rita) of Rexton, Lee (Juliette) of Richibucto; two daughters, Anita Vautour (Bernie), Main River and Maureen Wylie (Andy) of Rexton; ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Pinet-Cail, Emily Walls and one brother, Tommy Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six sisters and two brothers. Resting at Thompson's Funeral Home in Richibucto with visitation on Tuesday 7 to 9 pm and Wednesday 2 to 4 pm and 7to 9 pm and Thursday, 9am until funeral on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Rexton. Prayer vigil will be held at 3:30 pm at the funeral home, Wednesday afternoon. Interment in the spring in the parish cemetery. WEBBER, MILDRED (MIM) CHRISTINE - The death of Mildred (Mim) Christine Webber of 35 Queen Street, St. Stephen, New Brunswick, occurred at the Charlotte County Hospital on Sunday, December 7, 2003. Born in St. Stephen, she was the daughter of the late Harry P. and Mary F. Webber (Johnston) Webber. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
