Il laisse dans le deuil un fils, Réjean de Pointe-Verte; trois soeurs: Joséphine (feu Paul) Perron et Isabelle Lagacé, toutes deux de Pointe-Verte et Régina (feu Willie) Gray de Beresford; une belle-soeur, Rita Arseneault de Robertville, ainsi que plusieurs cousins, cousines, neveux et nièces. Deux fils: Jean-Marc et Noël; un frère, Denis; quatre soeurs: Valérie, Grace, Anna et Dora, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Arseneault était un vétéran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il était membre de la Légion de Pointe-Verte. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée à compter de 19h, le lundi 1er décembre, à la Chapelle funéraire Verret de Nigadoo. Un fils, Donald, ainsi qu’une soeur, Marguerite, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Francis était la dernière personne vivante de sa famille immédiate. Edith Gauvin 1918-2003 BOUCTOUCHE, NB-Edith Gauvin, 85, of Manoir St. Jean Baptiste, Bouctouche, formerly of Dieppe, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at her residence. Born in Notre-Dame-de-Kent, she was the daughter of the late Edouard and the late Marine (née: Surette) LeBlanc. Mrs. Gauvin lived in Dieppe for many years and had belonged to the local Club d'Age d'Or. Mrs. Gauvin is survived by three daughters, Simonne (Roger) Gauthier of St. Antoine, Dorraine Ellis of London, ON, and Joanne Gauvin of Dieppe; four sons, Gerald (Maria) of Bouctouche, Raymond (Marie-Mai), Fernand (Eva) and Yvon (Aldea), all three of NotreDame; one brother, Leandre LeBlanc of Dieppe; eight grandchildren, Robert, Lisa, David, Susie, Michelle, Dennis, Michel and Nicole; two great grandchildren, Maggie and Emily as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 1987; one son, Oscar; four sisters, Nelida, Albertine, Lorette and Thérèse and also by four brothers, Tommy, Eloi, Aurele and Normand. Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, 857-1901, on Monday, December 1, 2003 from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 pm and on Tuesday from 10 am until time of departure. He was a lobster fisherman most of his working life and an avid hunter. Eddie was a loving grandfather. LeBLANC, Mary Florence-67, New York City, passed away at home November 29, 2003. She was born October 25, 1936 in Terre Noire, Cape Breton. She was an RN graduate from St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Glace Bay. She took post graduate courses in OR in Montreal and psychiatry in New York, followed by a masters degree in psychology in New York. She moved to Manhattan in 1960 and worked at five major hospitals, (Presbyterian, Mount Sinai, Lenox Hill, Metropolitan and VA Hospital), retiring from the VA Hospital this past September. Mary was interested and caring to her patients and family. Mary enjoyed exploring as much of the world as she could taking annual tours. She is survived by sisters, Margaret H. LeBlanc, Sarah Dozzi, Halifax; brothers, Angus V. (Deborah), Sydney; William James "Jim", Toronto; nieces, Denise (Derek) Chiasson, Leah (Jim) Thompson, Brampton, Ont.; Tracy (Jason) Baker, Blackfalds, Alta.; Alana LeBlanc, Halifax; grandniece, Haley Chiasson. She was a former teacher at George's School of Montreal, where she taught for many years before moving to Halifax in 1981. Penny was a founding member of the Jungians Society of Halifax and was active in the Toastmasters International at Northwood. Bakgaard: Evelyn May (nee Rieger) 1924 - 2003 Evelyn May Bakgaard passed away peacefully October 31, 2003, at Carewest Signal Pointe in Calgary, AB. Evelyn was born January 20, 1924, in Delia, AB to Christine and Thomas F. Rieger. During her high school years, Evelyn played ice hockey, softball and helped edit the Delia High School yearbook while competing academically with her twin sister Alice. The twins graduated with honours from Delia High School in 1942. This was followed with teacher's training at the Edmonton Normal School where they played varsity fastball. They continued their training during the next few summers at both the U of A and U of Victoria. Evelyn and Alice taught at a number of rural one-room schools in Alberta and often shared the same teacherage. Evelyn's first teaching position was at Haven School near Beaverlodge, AB. This was followed by teaching positions at Redland Colony School, Majestic Lake School, Robson Lake School before moving to Calgary to teach at North Mount Pleasant School and at Haultain School where she taught Grade 1 from 1946 until 1957. Evelyn was very proud of her students and delighted in following their accomplishments. After 14 years of teaching, Evelyn retired to devote her life to her children and her parents. Evelyn was an avid researcher and learner and she loved baking, collecting recipes, reading, letter writing, vegetable and flower gardening, bicycling, playing softball, walking, skating, current events, art appreciation, cross-country skiing, traveling, hiking and dancing, as well as various volunteer activities. Evelyn will be intensely missed by her beloved children Stanley T. Bakgaard (Devra Rooney and Mia Maluchi of Portland, OR) and Wendy E. Bakgaard and her much loved son-in-law Timothy P. Blumenschein of Calgary. Evelyn will also be missed by her siblings: Violette Baskerville in Victoria, B.C.; Bertha "Caroline" Fraser in Calgary, AB; W.C. "Bill" Rieger of Rockyford, AB; her identical twin Alice M. Douglas in Drumheller, AB; Louise Smith in Preston, ON; and cousins in Germany and England, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her sister Marguerite Dare; her brothers Thomas F. Rieger II and Henry J. Rieger, and her nephew William J. Douglas. Evelyn's family extends their sincere gratitude to the wonderfully caring staff and volunteers at Extendicare Cedars Villa and Carewest Signal Pointe for their tender loving care during Mom's last years. Thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Woolner and Dr. Beverly Taylor and their staff for their continued care and concern. Stoneman: Vivien Marjorie (Marge) Vivien Marjorie Stoneman passed away on the early morning of November 19, 2003 at Drumheller and District Continuing Health Care Services at the age of 91. Marge was one of the first babies born in the Orkney District and she attended school there. It was there that she met and married her husband Clarence Stoneman. In 1948, they moved to the farm in Morrin during the spring flood. Marge spent her next 45 years as part of the Morrin community and in 1964 they moved the family into town. Marge had many hobbies and interests such as gardening, cake decorating and needlework and she was a wonderful cook. In 1990 Marge moved to the Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller and then into Continuing Care. Marge was predeceased by her husband Clarence Stoneman in 1976 and one grandson David Babcock.

MALCOLM ALEXANDER ‘MAC’ MacLEOD Longtime Fort Frances, Ont. resident Malcolm Alexander “Mac” MacLeod, 99, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. Born Nov. 13, 1904, at Swordale, Stornoway, Lewis, Scotland, he came to Canada in 1924 on the ship “Marloch,” moving to Tilbury, Ont. After residing in Tilbury, he moved to Port Arthur, Ont. for six years, then to Winnipeg, Man. for about 10 years. He then went on to Balmoral, Man. for six years, arriving in Fort Frances in 1947. On April 20, 1934, he married the former Winnifred Cornies, who predeceased him on April 12, 1988. He was an employee of the Canadian National Railway for 41 years, retiring in 1968. A member of the Fort Frances Masonic Lodge and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of the Way (CNR), he was awarded a Lifetime Membership to the New Democratic Party by Howard Hampton in 2001. Malcolm remained very active in body and spirit, keeping fit by walking, doing carpentry work, and maintaining a healthy body and mind. He often could be seen walking along the riverfront in Fort Frances or at Safeway shopping for groceries. He resided in, and maintained, his own home until October, and often could be found checking out books at Fort Frances Public Library. As a testament to his good health, he never owned a vehicle in his entire lifetime. He loved his family, mostly visiting with his great-grandchildren. He was especially proud of his great-grandson, Jared Anderson, as he is carrying on the Scottish tradition of learning to play the bagpipes. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Wowchuk of Thunder Bay, Ont.; granddaughter, Donna Anderson of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandson, William (Kathleen) Wowchuk of Thunder Bay, Ont.; grandson-in-law, Kevin Anderson of Fort Frances, Ont.; and five great-grandchildren, Jared, Zachary, and Macy Anderson of Fort Frances, Ont., and Lindsay and Billy Wowchuk of Thunder Bay, Ont. He also is survived by one brother, Kenneth MacLeod of Scotland; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives in Scotland and England. In addition to his wife, Winnifred, he was predeceased by his parents, John MacLeod and Mary (Stewart) MacLeod of Scotland; six brothers, Torquil, Roderick, William, Evander, Donald, and John; two sisters, Annie and Flora; and son-in-law, William Wowchuk on July 15, 1987. At Malcolm’s request, no funeral service is planned. The family will host a luncheon in his honor beginning at noon Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances. Cremation will take place in Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.

Jarvis: Lydia Margaret Florence July 27, 1914 - Nov. 2, 2003 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mother on November 2nd 2003, at the Sherwood Park Care Center. She was pre-deceased by our father Stan in 1987 and a grandson Douglas in 1982. She leave to mourn, her sister Shirley Barrett of Sardis, B.C., her sons Doug (Carol) of Roblin, Manitoba, Don (Lorna) of Sherwood Park; seven grandchildren, Stan (Felica), Teresa (Garnet) Lebertie, Michael (Amanda), Steven (Jennifer), Tracy (Rick) Risling, Sandra (Dwight) Wilkins, Paul (Corrina) and sixteen great grandchildren. During the 45 years she lived in Drumheller, mom was very active with numerous United Church groups until failing heath prevented her from continuing. We ask her many friends not to mourn her death but to remember her life. A memorial service will be held November 8, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Knox United Church, in Drumheller, Alberta with Rev. Chomas: Henry Henry Chomas passed away peacefuly on November 8, 2003 in Calgary. He is survived by his beloved wife Sandy and sons Colin and Cory. Henry was predeceased by his father, Steve Chomas, who passed away December 19, 1976 and mom Elaine, who passed away on April 22, 2003, and a sister, Theresa, who passed away on August 21, 2003. He had siblings: Billy, Myles, Greg and John Chomas, and sisters Joanne, Marsha, Marcella, Liza and Debra. Henry's love was hockey, COPS, Calgary Flames, fishing and camping. He owned Jack's Taxi for six years. He liked working on cars. Henry's wish was not to have a service. He was cremated in Calgary. Henry died at the age of 44 of a stroke in Calgary. In lieu of flowers, friends and family can pay respect to Sandy and the boys.

Lenfesty: Mark 1938 - 2003 Mark Lenfesty passed away October 29, 2003, surrounded by his family. Mark was born November 9, 1938, to Maggie and Day Lenfesty in Hanna. He is survived by his loving wife Rosanna; sister Joan Jones; and children Day, Faye (Doug and son Taylor), Diane (Gary and daughters Leah, Sarah and Michaela), Donna (Tom and son T.J., daughter Rhonda (Don); and his grandchildren Alisha, Samantha, Amanda and Haley) and Tim (Carol and children Carla, Joey, David and Susie). Mark was predeceased by his brothers Billy and Roy, and his parents, Maggie and Day. He made his home on the family homestead until his passing. Elworthy: Vickey Frances Vickey Frances Elworthy, beloved wife of Bob Elworthy of Bowden passed away at her residence on November 5, 2003 at the age of 47 years. Born at Lindsay, Ontario, Vickey developed a love of horses and the outdoors. Moving to Alberta with Bob in the fall in 1979, they were married in Bowden in 1984. They lived in several communities in Central Alberta before moving back to Bowden. Besides her husband Bob, Vickey is survived by one daughter, Brooke Elworthy, Edberg, AB; mother Ruth Taylor, Fenelon Falls, ON; a sister Glenda, Sombra, ON. Vickey was predeceased by her father Norman Taylor. Memorial services were held on Monday, November 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. from Mountain View Funeral Chapel, 5226 - 46 St., Olds, AB with interment at the Bowden Cemetery. Johnson: Terrance (Terry) Michael Darrell 1948 - 2003 Terry Johnson passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on November 14, 2003. Terry was born in Drumheller, Alberta on June 26, 1948 and raised in the Morrin area. He attended SAIT, graduating as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. After graduation he worked for Calm Air in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, Field Aviation, International Jet Air, PWA and Aero Metal, all in Calgary. Terry will be lovingly remembered by three brothers and three sisters, Art (Margaret), Gordon, Larry (Elaine), Doreen (Don Cuncannon), Marion (Leonard Olsen), and Ann (Adolf Holzli); and by his daughters, Melissa Nuccio, Michelle Spray, and Terri Lynn Johnson; as well as by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Erella Johnson. At his own request, Terry will be cremated and there will be a family Memorial Service at a later date. MacDonald: Marion Gertrude (DWAN) 1909 - 2003 Beloved Mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away, at the age of 94, on November 15, 2003. Marion was born in Vancouver February 27, 1909. The family moved to Lacombe when she was 6 years old and stayed there throughout her school years. After she was married to Sinnott they lived in Clive, Calgary and settled in Drumheller in 1942. Here they made a happy life with wonderful friends. They enjoyed curling, golfing and their Good Time dance club, and most importantly bridge. Marion was a champion bridge player and won many prizes. Marion will be sadly missed by her daughters Dianne (David) Blair, Patricia (Terry) Skinberg, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Marion was predeceased by her loving husband Sinnott in 1988, two sisters and one brother. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church with Father Daniel Stevenot presiding. Webster: Violet 1919 - 2003 Violet passed away peacefully November 29, 2003 at the Drumheller Hospital. Violet was born in Niton, AB December 7, 1919. She was raised in Rutland, SK. It was in Rutland that she met her future husband Francis Webster. Over their 50 year marriage they lived in Manitoba, N.W.T. and B.C. Violet lived in Elkford for 28 years before moving to Carbon, AB to be closer to family. She was an avid curler and golfer, decorated many a wedding cake and was even a volunteer firefighter. She was predeceased by her husband Francis, the love of her life. Violet is survived by Bryan (Marilyn) Webster of Fort St. John, B.C.; Blaine (Connie) Webster of Thornhill, ON; Dale (Stella) Webster of Kitimat, B.C.; and Deana (Brent) McLean of Carbon, AB. She also leaves to mourn four brothers, one sister, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. There will be a memorial to celebrate Violet's life December 12, 2003 at the Drumheller Hospital.

GALLANT (Gregory), Irene Eulaiaie-Halifax, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on November 29, 2003. She has gone home to Heaven to be with her late husband Donald Francis Gallant. Irene was born in Halifax on July 18, 1928. She was a daughter of the late Williams and Mary (Pike) Gregory. She is survived by her son, Gary Francis (Jane Watling), Dartmouth; daughters, Gayle Christine (Pat) Gallant, Hammonds Plains; Gina Marie (Owen Grant), Hammonds Plains; grandsons, Martin, Dartmouth; Jarod, Toronto; Derek, Hammonds Plains; brother, Harry (Pearl) Gregory; sister, Ruth (Jack) Mitchell, all of Elmsdale; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Tommy Perry, Sumêmerside, P.E.I.; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Donald, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Justina Shanks and Theodora "Teddy" McFarlane. She was also predeceased by her beloved and cherished pet, Kandy I. Her treats will be sadly missed by her surviving family pets, Nicki, Cocoa, Jake, Ginger, Shadow and Kandy II. Irene had many special friends and neighbours who all meant the world to her. Irene had many accomplishments in her life. These include a lifelong committment and dedication to her faith in God, her loving husband Donald, her three children and to all who were blessed to know her. There are no words that can express how deeply she will be missed by her family. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday, December 1, in Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2032 Robie St., Halifax.
