CUNNINGHAM, GROUP CAPTAIN DONALD DAVID MACCOUBREY Born September 17, 1913 to Vera Isabelle and John Harris Cunningham in Roundhill, Nova Scotia, Donald's life journey ended in his 91st year on October 13, 2003 in West Vancouver. After graduating in Electrical Engineering (1936) from the University of New Brunswick, Donald's first job was with the New Brunswick Power Commission. Shortly after his marriage to Ruth Lena Crawford, he joined the RCAF in 1941 where his intelligence, organizational abilities and integrity resulted in his numerous promotions to Group Captain. After retiring from the RCAF (1966) he joined the Government of Canada, Department of Supply and Services. An avid duplicate bridge player who enjoyed learning, bridge cruises, travels with his wife and a good game of cribbage. A wonderful, supportive father devoted to his children Leslie (Terry Forbes), David (Janet), Harris (Lynn) and Janice. He encouraged Christian values, the love of reading, an appreciation of poetry and the joys of fishing. Granddad to six grandchildren who will dearly miss their "Mr. Fix-it" and Great Granddad to five who loved to share his candy drawer. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth in March 2003, after 64 years in a loving marriage, and by his sister Helen McFarland. His sisters Janet Blackwell, of Saint John, NB, and Jean Oliver of Kamloops, BC will miss their only brother who was a loyal, caring friend. The family wishes to thank the staff of Lions Gate Hospital and Doctor Annette McCall for their compassionate care. A service of celebration will be held on Sunday, November 9th at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2200 Benjamin Avenue, Ottawa at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception. She is survived by her sister Joan (Kevin O'Connor). Barbara's life passion was raising and taking care of her family which she did with love and kindness. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends who have all been left with fond memories. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Lucille (née-Lefebvre) Lessard and his children Jacques (Michelle) Lessard of Timmins, Normand Lessard of Timmins, Roch Lessard of Mississauga, Louise (Rhéal) Bélanger of Timmins, Lilianne (Alain) Richer of Timmins, Maurice Lessard of Calgary, Jo-Anne Popovich of Timmins and Denise (Joe) Joliat of Timmins. He was predeceased by his son Jean-Marc Lessard (August 23, 1968) his father Albert Lessard, his mother Aldéa Lessard, his brother André Lessard, his sisters Jeanne-Mance Charlebois, Jacqueline Lacroix, Colette Perrier-Ouellet, his father-in-law Josaphat Lefebvre and his mother-in-law Christine (Née-Barrette) Lefebvre, his brothers-in-law Emile Lapointe, Jean-Paul Lacroix, Leo Perrier, Rhéal Lefebvre, Jean-Guy Lefebvre, Leo Auger and Russell Strange. Survived by his brothers George-Ethienne (Diane) Lessard of Val Gagne, Jules (Rose) Lessard of Nepean, Maurice (Laurette) Lessard of Timmins, his sisters Georgette Lapointe-Saumur (Paul) of Timmins and Louise-Hélène (Ronald) Smith of Timmins. Also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Thérèse Lessard, Hector (Noella) Charlebois, Jackie Auger, Yolande Lefebvre, Marielle Strange-Mitchell (Yvan), Aline and Hervé Sarrazin, Gilbert (Barbara) Lefebvre and Marcel Ouellet. Jean-Paul will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He had 8 grandchildren Valene, Patrick, Shawn, Josée, Sarah, Roxanne, Joel and Natalie. Jean-Paul was an honest and kind man, a caring father, a family man who devoted a great part of his life in raising and providing for his family. He loved to read and watch programs on the subject of politics. Worked at the McIntyre Mine for ten years, was hired as a painter by Texas Gulf in February 1969 and retired from Kidd Creek (Falconbridge) in 1982 at the age of 60. In his 21 years of retirement, Jean-Paul took passion in wood working, creating projects that he would always proudly show off. Jean-Paul will always have a special place in the hearts of those he knew and will be sadly missed. Remembrance donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged. Friedley: Ken 1946 - 2003 It is with great sadness that we, his children, announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, Ken Friedley, in the early morning hours of October 18, 2003 on his farm south of Delia. Dad was born November 22, 1946 in Calgary, one of three children to Clifford and Marguerite Friedley. The family farmed at DeWinton, Alberta until 1956 when they moved back to Delia to the Julson farm south of Delia. Dad took his schooling in Delia, and spent his life in the Delia area. He loved his children and was the best dad a kid could ever have. His love for hockey drove him to put all three boys in hockey since they were old enough to stand. He would drive through a blizzard just to make sure they got to practice. He also loved to build and fly his hobby planes and helicopters. It was amazing how much time dad would put into an airplane just to take it up for one flight and see it hit the ground. Dad loved the Handhills, he never understood why anyone would want to leave. He would wake up in the morning and look out the window to see the sun coming up over the hills and his day would start. He would have it no other way. Dad is survived by his loving children, Tiffannie, Tayller, Tahner and Tyson; sister Yvonne, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Dad was predeceased by his mother and father, Clifford and Marguerite, and brother Donald. A celebration of Dad s life was held on October 25, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Delia Community Hall with Rev. Harold Hunter officiating. His burial was at the Delia Cemetery by Courtney-Winter s Funeral Home, Drumheller. Dad you will be missed very much, but we know you are in a better place with no pain and we know that you still wake every morning to the sun coming over the Handhills. Hassett: Kay (Henrietta Kathleen) (nee: Burness) 1911 - 2003 Kay Hassett was born on August 27, 1911, in Wadena, Saskatchewan, one of five children. Kay attended Normal School in Regina and went on to teach school until marrying Walter Hassett. Kay and Walter lived in Saskatchewan until 1949 when they moved to Drumheller, bought City Dairy, and their home on 2nd Avenue. Kay eventually returned to teaching and taught Grade 5 in Drumheller for many years. She and Walter were very involved with the community including the Elks and the Royal Purple, the Rotary, and Knox United Church. Kay was predeceased by Walter, her loving husband of more than 65 years. She is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Margaret Code and Sylvia Shaw (Gilbert); five grandchildren, Laura Grift (Gary), Donna Code Castillo (Rene), Linda Code, Sarah Shaw, Andrew Shaw; one great grandson Quetin Code (Shannon); and one great-great granddaughter Angelina Code. Cullum: Robert Kelly "Relish" 1967 - 2003 Kelly passed away tragically on Friday, October 24, 2003 along with his brother Morgan and his cousin Kevin. Taken away from all who loved them far too soon. He will be sadly missed and loved until we meet again. Kelly was born in Drayton Valley on April 15, 1967 and resided in the Drumheller Valley. Kelly was an avid outdoor and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. He also enjoyed working with his hands and driving trucks and was known always as a person who would give rather than receive. Most of all Kelly enjoyed spending time with his children and family. Most people knew Kelly as an individual who would relish the moment that was upon him. Kelly "Relish" will be deeply missed and loved. Kelly is survived by his two sons Donovan (6), Derrick (5) and his daughter Lexandra (4); his mother Helen Cullum; five sisters Lila (Nick) Luka, Connie Misson, Janice (Lorne) Gerk, Shirley (Stephen) Hayes, Kim (Paul) Richard; one brother, Donnie (Chrystalyn) Cullum; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. LACELLE, ANDREW OSGOOD At the age of 74 years, Andrew Osgood Lacelle, friend of Elizabeth Mott, Fairfield NB, peacefully passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 29, 2003. Born in Montreal, Andrew was the son of the late Noel and Lucille (Desmormeaux) Lacelle. Andy, fondly remembered by many as "Frenchy" enjoyed a long career as a heavy equipment operator, most recently until retirement from the I. L.A. at the Potash Terminal. In his spare time he enjoyed "tinkering" with his vehicles and especially enjoyed his time at his summer home in Chipman, NB, with his beloved dog Tacha. Predeceased by his wife Mary (Glenn) and survived by their daughter Cathy (Brian) Tyler and their children Andrew, Richard and Amber. He is also survived by his children from his first marriage; son, Robert Andrew Lacelle (Angie) and their children Cpl. Jason Lacelle (Beth), Emily Richard (Yvon) and Cheyenne Lacelle; son, Steven Lacelle and his daughter Danielle, Gail Lacelle and her children Jeffrey and Chelsey. Predeceased by sons Lindsay, Paul, Ricky and daughter Mary. Survived also by a brother Claude Lacelle (Serge Pellerin), Montreal, several great grandchildren, in-laws and nieces and nephews. Born in Priceville, NB, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Edith (Price) Munn. She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed watching cooking shows and baking. Born in Emerson, Kent Co., he was the son of the late Sylvanis and Enid (Fairfield) Chapman. Jimmy was a Sargent Major serving with the North Shore Regiment during WWII. A retired dragline operator, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 12, the Grand Lake Masonic Lodge and the Orange Lodge. WEBB, GLADYS M. The death of Gladys M. (Eden) Webb of Fredericton, NB occurred at York Manor Nursing Home on Thursday, October 30th, 2003. Born in Gaspé, PQ she was the daughter of the late Francis G. and Edith M. Eden and wife of G. Murray Webb. Gladys and Murray were married in Gaspé in 1945 and subsequently moved to Moncton where their children were born. In 1958 they moved to Fredericton. Gladys enjoyed teaching ceramics and was involved in church life at Christ Church Parish Church, particularly in the ACW and the Craft Group. Gladys was known by her many friends as a gracious hostess, a wonderful cook and an avid bridge player. Most of all Gladys was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survived by her husband, G. Murray Webb; one son, Gerald M. Webb (Nancy) of Calgary, AB; one daughter, Joyce Dorothea Thomander (Kevin) of Fredericton, NB; four grandchildren, Glen and Beth Thomander and Craig and Keith Webb and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. LODER, Robin M. - At the age of 68 years, of Hillstead Retirement Residence, a 31 year Peterborough resident, died suddenly Friday October 17, 2003. Robin was born in New York City June 6, 1935 to the late John and Philena (Weller) Montgomery. She was a graduate of New Rochelle New York High School where she was an honour student and involved in many school activities which included drum majorette of the marching band and Vice President of the student body. She was an accomplished pianist. Robin attended Cornell University on a national scholarship. She earned a BS Degree from The University of Northern Colorado and a Master Degree in Library Services from the University of Toronto. She worked at several bookstores in the Peterborough area. Robin was preceded in death by her husband J. Erik Loder (Artist) in 1993. She is survived by 2 brothers, John Montgomery Jr. of Wilmington, De, USA and Winston Montgomery of San Francisco, Ca, USA, 1 sister Jill Stark of Port Charlotte, FL., USA and 4 nieces and 2 nephews. Cullum: Morgan Earl 1973 - 2003 Morgan passed away tragically on Friday, October 24, 2003 along with his brother Kelly and cousin Kevin Sawicki. Taken away from all who loved them far too soon. Morgan will be sadly missed and loved until we meet again. Morgan was born in Sundre on April 4, 1973. Morgan has spent most of the past 23 years in the Drumheller Valley with time spent in Vancouver and Medicine Hat. Morgan was an outdoor and sports enthusiast, he enjoyed baseball, volleyball and hockey. He also was involved in Scouts, where he achieved his Queen Venture award. Morgan also attended Medicine Hat College, where he met his girlfriend, Jamie Blunt. Morgan also enjoyed spending time with his long time friends. He was known as a person with a great sense of humor, a strong shoulder and a volacious appetite for life. Morgan is survived by his mother Helen Cullum; his five sisters Lila (Nick) Luka, Connie Misson, Janice (Lorne) Gerk, Shirley (Stephen) Hayes, Kim (Paul) Richard; one brother Donnie (Chrystalyn) Cullum; girlfriend Jamie Blunt; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Munson Community Hall at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been set up at the Treasury Branch for his niece and two nephews in care of Robert Kelly Cullum s Childrens Trust Fund.

ATKINSON, PHYLLIS J. Phyllis Jeanette (Hunter) Atkinson, of Fredericton, widow of Hubert Atkinson, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on October 30, 2003 at Mountainside Lodge in Island View, NB, as a result of Alzheimer Disease. Phyllis was born in Orillia, Ontario, and was the only child of F. Clayton and Ethel Mae (Spence) Hunter. She was raised in St. Stephen where she completed business school and worked as a secretary for Ganong's until her marriage to Hubert in 1948. Together, they raised eight children and enjoyed 45 years of marriage. She loved music, played the piano, sang in church choirs, and Sweet Adelines (St. Stephen). No gathering of the Atkinson family was complete without Mom at the piano or organ, leading a sing-along. She also enjoyed her craft work and it was rare to find her without a knitting, sewing or crochet project on her lap. For the past 40 years, Phyl has lived in Fredericton. She worked at Harvey Studios after her family was grown, retiring in 1987. She was a lifetime member, with Hubert, of the NB Antique Automobile Club. She was a lifetime member of Wilmot Church, active in the United Church Women for many years as well as a member of the choir. Even as her memory failed, she continued to draw strength and comfort from her faith. She never lost her sense of humour, her taste for chocolate, and her love of a good game of crokinole. Above all, she was a loving mother. Phyllis is survived by her eight children: Wayne of Toronto, Blaine (Anne Marie) of Fredericton, Gordon (Dianne) of Dieppe, Marilyn Doucet (Andre) of Biddeford, Maine, Ralph of Toronto, Judy McKie of Upper Kingsclear, Betty Atkinson-Clark (Brian Clark) of Crabbe Mountain, and Rick (Rebecca Leaman) of Keswick Ridge. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Mark Atkinson, Geoffrey and Jonathon (Kristina) Atkinson, Renee Atkinson, Paul (Karen) and Michelle Doucet, Lindsay and Michael McKie; and one great-granddaughter, Kaylie Doucet. She is also survived by special in-laws, Marjorie Atkinson, and Bruce and Carolyn Atkinson, all of Fredericton, as well as by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hubert, and by an infant daughter, Dorothy. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 2, 2003 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton. The funeral service will held at Wilmot United Church, Fredericton at 2PM, Monday, November 3, 2003. Rev. Chris Levan officiating. Interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery will take place privately at a later date.
