Predeceased by his parents Pearl and Cecil, brothers Clarence and Norman, and by his sisters Shirley and Eleanor, all of Kingston. He is survived by Barbara and Nick of Kelowna and Reg and Mary of Kingston. Distinguished Military Service having served in World War II and as a peacekeeper in Vietnam. Recipient of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Award among many others. Dedicated public servant as Director of Personnel at Customs and Excise. Past president and lifetime member of the RA Club. Avid golfer and member of the Highlands Golf Club. Many thanks to Dr. Sabloff and the Palliative Care Team at the General Hospital. Predeceased by her son Michael, daughter of Marguerite Gero, she will be sadly missed by her sons Compton, Randall, her stepdaughter Ann-Marie, her grandchildren Latisha, Cherrelle, Alexander, Chyanna, Makeda, Michelle, Kiana, Michael, her brothers and sisters, her dear friends Sharon, Ms. Jean, Dodo and many other relatives and friends. Ph.D, F.R.S.C., Honorary Scientist, University of Ottawa Cam passed away on October 24, 2003 in hospital, at age 84, after a brief illness. Adored and adoring husband of Barbara (Babs) Brisbin. Loved and respected Dad of Chal Benson (Gail Ratcliff) and Gayle Jakubinek (Henry), and Grandpa of Mike (Tara Swords) and Paul Jakubinek. Cam had a distinguished career with the National Research Council of Canada, retiring as a Principal Research Officer (chemical thermodynamics) in 1984. He will be missed by long-time friend and collaborator, Professor (Emeritus) Benjamin Lu and colleagues in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the U. of O., where Cam continued research, mentoring and publishing until the time of his death. LUCIENNE H. PATRY (nee ADAM) Peacefully on October 23, 2003, at Tache Centre, Lucienne Patry, beloved wife of the late Joseph Patry, passed away at the age of 102 years. Besides her husband, Lucienne was predeceased by her brothers, Wilfrid, Adeodat and Eugene; her sisters, Eva Houde, Louise Fitzmaurice, Agathe d'Aragon and Corona Labossiere; as well as her sisters-in-law, Yvonne (Dave) Durand, Marie-Rose (Gedeon) Joyal, Blanche (Laurent) Caron; and brothers-in-law, Francois and Albert. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Rolande; her son Romeo and his wife Pierrette as well as their sons, Paul and Raymond; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She also leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law, Regina Patry, Lillian Adam Boily and Claire Patry. A member of Holy Cross RC Church in DeWitt, NY. She also volunteered for Red Cross Blood Mobiles and Meals on Wheels. Beulah became a naturalized US Citizen in May of this year. She was a former resident of DeWitt, NY and Hawley, PA. Her husband Edward A. McNamara, her father Lawrence Dawson and her mother Gertrude O'Hara Dawson predeceased her. She is survived by two daughters, Deanna McNamara and Patricia Murdock and a son Edward all of Pennsylvania and a son Thomas of McChord Air Force Base in Washington. Also a sister Deanna Mantha of Ottawa, 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mass and burial will be at Queen of Peace RC Church in Hawley, PA. Born in Fredericton, he was the son of the late James and Ethel (Hazlett) Somerville. John was an avid hunter, and enjoyed car racing. In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his daughters, Roxanne Somerville (Clarence Guitar), Gail Mahoney (Randy), and Cindy Boyce (Garfield), all of Fredericton; brothers Rollie Somerville (Marjorie) of Fredericton, Ronald Somerville (Mary) of Fredericton, and James Somerville (Eva) of Doaktown; sisters Viola Holland of Fredericton, Eileen Stewart of Fredericton, and Carolyn Broussell (Fred) of Cape Breton; grandchildren Joshua and Jeremy Guitar, Drew and Adam Mahoney, and Mary and Tiffany Boyce; and several nieces and nephews. John will be sadly missed by closest friends Lynn Curtis and Roydan Jordon. He was predeceased by brothers Gerald David Somerville and Waldo Irving Somerville. Born in Ottawa in 1912, elder son of John Wesley Gibson and Bel le Crawford McGee; school and college in Victoria, Rhodes Scholar from British Columbia in 1931; Foreign Service Officer, Department of External Affairs (1938-47); served with the Prime Minister on missions to Washington, Quebec Conferences, San Fran cisco, London and Paris. Original member of Faculty of Carleton College, (1942); from 1952, first Dean of Arts and Science, Carleton University; later Dean of Arts and Deputy to the President; in 1963, named Founding President of Brock University. A founding member of the Canadian Association of Rhodes Scholars, he held various offices and served as editor of the newsletter for 19 years. For over 60 years, he was a member of the Canadian Historical Association and of the CIIA, as well as nationa l and regional voluntary organizations. He is survived by his daughters, Julia Matthews and Eleanor S. Joly (Gerald), and his son Peter James; grandchildren Alison Matthews-David (Jean Marc), Colin Matthews (Nathalia), Micheline, Nina (Jean-Marc Bern jer) and Gerald Joly, Anna Gibson (Robert) and Hilary Terhune (Peter); two great grandchildren. His wife Caroline died in 1995; also surviving are his brother William and his sister Isobel Searls in Victoria. Dr. Edythe May Evelyn (Santo) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved Edythe on Sunday, October 19th in Ottawa. After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, Edythe went peacefully and at home surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Gorman Hanrahan and her daughters, Patricia (PK), Marnie and Kerry Hanrahan, her sons-in-laws, Eric Rothschild and Dwight Green and her grandchildren, Max and Kate Rothschild. We know that her family in Saskatchewan and Washington DC and friends in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa will also mourn her passing. In life, Edythe showed great determination and courage, graduating in 1951 with a medical degree from McGill University in anesthesiology one of the very few female graduates of her day. Blessed with intelligence and beauty, Edythe remained a concerned and caring individual throughout her life - one who found great joy in books. Today, her family remembers her many accomplishments and celebrates Edythes life. We especially wish her peace and happiness on her journey. WYKES, Percy Herbert Arthur (B.A.; M.A. Balliol College, Oxford) Died peacefully at the Lenadco Home, Napanee on Thursday, October 23, 2003 in his 97th year. He will be sadly missed by Elizabeth (Betty), wife of 65 years; son Colin (Georgene), Nanoos e Bay, B.C. and daughters: Janet (Ghazi Farooq), Nanoose Bay, B.C. and Sally (Mike Dollack), Napanee, ON; seven grandchildren: Heather Coleson, Braydon, Devon & Jackson. Percy had a long career in education which took him from MillHill (England), Rav enscourt (Winnipeg), Ridley College (St. Catherines) to the library at McMaster University (Hamilton). The cottage at Rock Lake, Algonquin Park, provided him with years of enjoyment. His many interests included reading, birdwatching, canoeing, garden ing and Scottish Country Dancing. Percy will be best remembered as a true and generous gentleman, who had the amazing ability to recall historical facts and to quote "The English Masters". THERESE PICHE (nee PAINCHAUD) Peacefully, on Monday, October 20, 2003, at Tache Centre, Therese passed away at the age of 89 years. Born in Fannystelle, MB, on February 17, 1914, Therese is survived by her son Rene Piche, his two sons, Daniel and Robert; and her sister Madeleine Poitras. She was predeceased by her husband Gabriel in 1991; her parents Eugene and Maria (Arnal) Painchaud; her brothers, Clement, Raymond, Andre and Gustave; and two of her three sisters, Marie (married to Leon Saquet), Marcelle (married to Gaspard Piche). Therese was very devoted to her family and greatly enjoyed the company of her two grandsons. Her desserts and especially her chocolate cake and chocolate raisin cookies will be missed. An accomplished piano player during her teens, she was the hometown church accompanist for eight years until her wedding day. She recalled many times the hours of delight she experienced playing the home organ while accompanying her sister Madeleine, singing the hit songs of the time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. A commemorative service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in Fannystelle.
