Recipient of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Award among many others. Dedicated public servant as Director of Personnel at Customs and Excise. (nee Dawson) Of Fayetteville, NY died unexpectedly Tuesday at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Born in Ontario, Canada, she was a housewife and formerly a hairdresser. A member of Holy Cross RC Church in DeWitt, NY. She also volunteered for Red Cross Blood Mobiles and Meals on Wheels. Beulah became a naturalized US Citizen in May of this year. She was a former resident of DeWitt, NY and Hawley, PA. Her husband Edward A. McNamara, her father Lawrence Dawson and her mother Gertrude O'Hara Dawson predeceased her. She is survived by two daughters, Deanna McNamara and Patricia Murdock and a son Edward all of Pennsylvania and a son Thomas of McChord Air Force Base in Washington. Also a sister Deanna Mantha of Ottawa, 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mass and burial will be at Queen of Peace RC Church in Hawley, PA. Dr. Edythe May Evelyn (Santo) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved Edythe on Sunday, October 19th in Ottawa. After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, Edythe went peacefully and at home surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Gorman Hanrahan and her daughters, Patricia (PK), Marnie and Kerry Hanrahan, her sons-in-laws, Eric Rothschild and Dwight Green and her grandchildren, Max and Kate Rothschild. We know that her family in Saskatchewan and Washington DC and friends in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa will also mourn her passing. In life, Edythe showed great determination and courage, graduating in 1951 with a medical degree from McGill University in anesthesiology one of the very few female graduates of her day. Blessed with intelligence and beauty, Edythe remained a concerned and caring individual throughout her life - one who found great joy in books. Today, her family remembers her many accomplishments and celebrates Edythes life. We especially wish her peace and happiness on her journey. Heartfelt thanks to her caregivers at the end: Dr. Louise Coulombe and Wendy Nicholds RN. In keeping with her wishes, we ask that no flowers be sent. Instead a tree will be planted in the Arboretum of the Central Experimental Farm in memory of Edythe. No service is planned following the cremation. Elle laisse dans le deuil cinq filles: Léonie Arsenault (Yvon), Geraldine Vautour (Clorice), Diana Vautour (Gilles) et Rose-Marie Guimond (Gerald), toutes de Saint-Louis-de-Kent et Nicole Richard (Gilles) de Saint-Charles; quatre fils: Gilles (Andréa) de Fredericton, Roger (Edith) et Camille (Carmella), tous deux de Saint-Louis-de-Kent et Donat (Yvonnice) de Saint-Ignace-de-Kent, ainsi que 15 petits-enfants, huit arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces. Mme Gallant était la dernière personne vivante de sa famille immédiate. Quatre soeurs: Lucie Vautour (feu Calixte), Laudia Gallant (feu Cyprien), Mélana Comeau et Dina Comeau, ainsi que trois frères: Camille, Édouard et Elzéar, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. Carrie "Gladys" Mooney Of Kingston Ontario, wife of the late Charles Mooney, formerly of Napanee passed away at K.G.H., Saturday October 4, 2003, three days before her ninety-first birthday. Born Carrie Gladys Benn, daughter of the late John and Essi e Benn, she was the fourth of seven children. Gladys grew up in the Napanee area, attended Forest Mills and Napanee schools then entered training at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Unfortunately this was cut short due to rheumatic fever. She met and later married Charles Mooney of Napanee at a midnight wedding ceremony November 24, 1934 at Roblin. Gladys and Charles had three children, son John Hugh (died in infancy) and two daughters, Joan and Kay. The family were members at Trinity United Chu rch where Gladys taught Sunday School and was superintendent of the Mission Band and sang in the choir. Later they moved to Kingston where they were members at Princess St. United church where Gladys also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir an d was a member of the U.C.W. She worked as a sales clerk in Gayfair Napanee and Lipsons and S&R in Kingston. A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, Gladys loved spending time with her family and friends. A very independent woman, she drove her car herself and lived in her own home right up to the summer of 2003. Gladys enjoyed knitting and gardening in her spare time. She belonged to the Rotary Ann Club, and loved to go out to dinner with them. Gladys is su rvived by her daughters Joan (Alex) and Kay (Mario, deceased); grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughters; four sisters, a sister-cousin and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, infant son, son-in-law and brothers Wilfred and Kenneth. The funeral was held October 7, 2003 with with Rev. Harold Alston officiating. JARRATT, SIDNEY MASON - Sidney Mason Jarratt of Bathurst, New Brunswick, passed away gently in his sleep on Saturday October 11th, 2003. Born in Kenogami, Quebec, on April 15, 1914, he was the eldest son of the late William E. Jarratt of Maidstone, Kent, England, and Alice Glenys Sidney, of Lincoln, New Hampshire. He was pre-deceased by his brother Bill (William) of Fredericton, his infant twin brothers and his eldest son Billy, who died at age 58 in Nelson B.C. on August 3rd 2003. Sidney was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Sidney was admired for his skill as a master fly tier, his specialty being classic Atlantic salmon patterns. He began tying flies in 1939, and was well known among the salmon and trout fishing community throughout New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. He was a lifetime member of the Nepisiquit Salmon Association and was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Atlantic Salmon Federation in 1997. In 1998, Sidney was featured in a CBC Television vignette tying a classic Orange Parson salmon fly and he was the subject of several newspaper articles over the years. His classic patterns were part of an exhibition of New Brunswick fly tiers that traveled throughout the province and his work appeared in a publication about fly tiers that was produced in the Miramichi. Sidney graduated from Rothesay Collegiate School in 1933 where he was known by the nickname "Skim Milk" by his schoolmates, Tim Ellis, Phil Loosen and Dick Steele, with whom he was still in contact. Sidney excelled in sports at RCS: he was the triple jump champion and captain of the 1933 hockey team. His days at Rothesay were a big part of his life and, much to his regret, he was unable to participate in his 70th anniversary reunion this summer due to illness. Sidney came from a long line of paper makers: his father emigrated from England to Canada in the early 1900s to work in senior management in the booming Canadian pulp and paper industry, settling in Kenogami, Quebec. In 1923, when Sidney was nine years old, the family moved to Bathurst where his father was Superintendent of the groundwood mill at Bathurst Pulp and Paper. Following in his father's footsteps, Sidney was employed at the Bathurst Consolidated mill throughout his working life. He spent many hours discussing the latest developments in technology with his younger friends who continued to work at the mill after his retirement in 1979. Sidney had many friends and acquaintances who were a great comfort to him throughout his long and interesting life. John Nöel and the members of the Murray Group as well as the Pathfinders in Big River were among his close friends and will be fondly remembered by the family. Thanks go to those who took the time out of their busy schedules to visit Sidney during his month long hospitalization and especially during the past year at home when he was unable to get out and about. A special thanks goes to Dr. Barnhill and the nurses and sitters of the 2nd and 3rd floors, as well as the Palliative Care unit at Chaleur Hospital for their excellent care of Sidney. He leaves behind him his loving wife, Lucy Catherine, daughter of the late Patrick and Beatrice (Moran) Hennessy, as well as his eight surviving children: Glenys "Sally" (husband Dr. Brian Warriner) of Richmond, BC, Anne (husband Jim MacDonald) of Weekawken, New Jersey, USA, Sidney "Snooker" (wife Donna Hall) of Nelson, BC, son Peter (wife Beverly Doucet) of Bathurst, John (wife Paula Doucet) of Fredericton, Theresa of Bathurst, David of Calgary, AB, and Melynda (husband Dan Weston) of Fredericton. Sidney had twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud and he will be fondly remembered by them forever as Grandpa. The funeral was held in Holy Family Church, Monday October 13th, presided over by Father Jean-Robert Leger. In keeping with Sidney's interest in the preservation of local history, the family would appreciate any donations in his name be made to the Bathurst Heritage Trust Commission, in care of Jessica Ryan, towards the establishment of its new Archival Center in Bathurst.

Soeur Jeannine Gagnon est née à Jonquière. Elle était la fille de feu Albert Gagnon et de dame Anne-Marie Néron. « Consacrée au service de la vie », soeur Jeannine a été présente pendant quelques années auprès des jeunes dans l’enseignement au primaire. Mais les services dans les soins de santé ont particulièrement bénéficié de sa compétence et de son dévouement empressé, comme auxiliaire et aide dans l’accompagnement. L’hôpital de Hakesbury, Ontario, des Centres de santé à Cap-rouge, Québec, Chapais et Haïti ont apprécié sa présence. Entre 1987 et 2000, des services variés la réclament à l’infirmerie de la Maison provinciale de Chicoutimi. Outre sa famille religieuse, soeur Jeannine laisse dans le deuil sa mère de 98 ans et son frère Raymond (feu Lucienne Jean), sa compagne Marie-Blanche Maltais. Elle était la soeur de feu Jeannine 1re, feu Myrella et de feu Lionel. Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses neveux et nièces et de nombreux parents et amis. GASTON, ROBERTA GERTRUDE The death of Roberta Gertrude Gaston, wife of William M. Gaston of Doaktown, N.B., occurred Friday, October 24, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after a lengthy illness, at the age of 69. Born in Canso N.S., daughter of Mrs. Alfreda (Murphy) MacNeil and the late Robert MacNeil. She was a devout Catholic; she was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, DoaktownBlissfield Parish; member of CWL. She was very active in church and community affairs. She served three years in RCAF. She was a person who voluntarily offered herself in many different ways, such as grandparent volunteer at U.M.E.S. Boiestown and Doaktown Primary School; Mentally Handicapped Assoc. and Prince County Welfare Agency (Foster Care), both in Summerside PEI; Friendly Neighbours Assoc., Greenwood, NS; Roberta loved life firstly her family, children and grandchildren.
