John D. Steeves 1933-2003 John D. Steeves ,70, of Edgett's Landing, Albert Co., NB, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2003 at the Moncton City Hospital. He was born on August 7, 1933 in Edgett's Landing, the son of the late Rutledge and Marjorie Steeves. He is survived by his wife ,Ethel (Lyman) Steeves of Edgett's Landing; his daughter, Louise Tingley (Mansel) of Hopewell Cape; son, Samuel Steeves of Edgett's Landing; three grandchildren Donald(Louise), Tina and Laura; four great grandchildren, Samantha, Travis, Daniel and Brookelyn; two sisters, Jean Snelgrove (Ron) of Hillsborough; Elizabeth Sears (Leslie) of Halifax; one brother, Robert Steeves (Doris) of Albert Mines; sister-in-law, Doreen Steeves of Hillsborough; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one brother, James. Honouring John's own wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Internment will be held in the Green Hill Cemetery, Edgett's Landing at a later date. William (Willie) Richard SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Willie Richard, age 81, of Sackville occurred at his home on Friday, October 24, 2003. Born in Sackville, Willie was the son of the Late William and Joseline (LeBlanc) Richard. Willie was a veteran of WWII, he served with the 8th Canadian Hussars in Germany, France, Italy and North Africa and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sackville Branch # 26. A plumber for over 30 years ,Willie served many of the Sackville and area families. He was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Willie will be sadly missed by his wife Cecelia (Markey ) of Sackville; daughters, Susan (Paul Hodgkins) Richmond Hill,ON.,Catherine (William Sigsworth) of Sackville,NB, Joanne (Dale Cournoyer) of Victoria,BC and Jocelyn (William Roy) of Machrihanish, Scotland; a sister Leah Richard of Shemogue; and nine grandchildren, Will and Evelyn Gilbert, Charlotte, Beatrice and Philip Hodgkins, Emma Sigsworth, Cole Emerson and Madeleine and Innes Roy. McPHEE, PAUL JOSEPH - The death of Paul Joseph McPhee occurred unexpectedly on October 23, 2003, at his residence. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Leo and Ann (Dalton) McPhee. He was employed as a bus driver with School District # 8 for the past 25 years. He was an avid collector of die-cast model cars and enjoyed country music. He is survived by his former wife of thirty years Linda McPhee, his sons Jonathan McPhee and his wife Jamie of Grand Bay-Westfield, Paul McPhee of Kingston, ON, his daughter Jennifer Beaulieu and her husband Rob of Grand Bay-Westfield, his dearest friend Cathy McCoy, his brothers Leo McPhee and his wife Karen of Grand Bay-Westfield, Danny McPhee and his wife Rose of Saint John, his sister Mary Lou Cullen and her husband Stephen of Saint John, his grandchildren Adam, Corey, Ashton, Chevaun and Zachery and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His sister Darlene McPhee predeceased him. Depuis 1997, il était à la retraite. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Hélène L'Abbé, ses enfants Geneviève, François et Danielle (Carl Wilson), ses frères Richard (Lise Dubé) et Fernand (Andrée Gauthier), ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, bellessoeurs, neveux et nièces. THERESE PICHE (nee PAINCHAUD) Peacefully, on Monday, October 20, 2003, at Tache Centre, Therese passed away at the age of 89 years. Born in Fannystelle, MB, on February 17, 1914, Therese is survived by her son Rene Piche, his two sons, Daniel and Robert; and her sister Madeleine Poitras. She was predeceased by her husband Gabriel in 1991; her parents Eugene and Maria (Arnal) Painchaud; her brothers, Clement, Raymond, Andre and Gustave; and two of her three sisters, Marie (married to Leon Saquet), Marcelle (married to Gaspard Piche). Therese was very devoted to her family and greatly enjoyed the company of her two grandsons. Her desserts and especially her chocolate cake and chocolate raisin cookies will be missed. An accomplished piano player during her teens, she was the hometown church accompanist for eight years until her wedding day. She recalled many times the hours of delight she experienced playing the home organ while accompanying her sister Madeleine, singing the hit songs of the time. JARRATT, SIDNEY MASON - Sidney Mason Jarratt of Bathurst, New Brunswick, passed away gently in his sleep on Saturday October 11th, 2003. Born in Kenogami, Quebec, on April 15, 1914, he was the eldest son of the late William E. Jarratt of Maidstone, Kent, England, and Alice Glenys Sidney, of Lincoln, New Hampshire. He was pre-deceased by his brother Bill (William) of Fredericton, his infant twin brothers and his eldest son Billy, who died at age 58 in Nelson B.C. on August 3rd 2003. Sidney was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Sidney was admired for his skill as a master fly tier, his specialty being classic Atlantic salmon patterns. He began tying flies in 1939, and was well known among the salmon and trout fishing community throughout New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. He was a lifetime member of the Nepisiquit Salmon Association and was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Atlantic Salmon Federation in 1997. In 1998, Sidney was featured in a CBC Television vignette tying a classic Orange Parson salmon fly and he was the subject of several newspaper articles over the years. His classic patterns were part of an exhibition of New Brunswick fly tiers that traveled throughout the province and his work appeared in a publication about fly tiers that was produced in the Miramichi. Sidney graduated from Rothesay Collegiate School in 1933 where he was known by the nickname "Skim Milk" by his schoolmates, Tim Ellis, Phil Loosen and Dick Steele, with whom he was still in contact. Sidney excelled in sports at RCS: he was the triple jump champion and captain of the 1933 hockey team. His days at Rothesay were a big part of his life and, much to his regret, he was unable to participate in his 70th anniversary reunion this summer due to illness. Sidney came from a long line of paper makers: his father emigrated from England to Canada in the early 1900s to work in senior management in the booming Canadian pulp and paper industry, settling in Kenogami, Quebec. In 1923, when Sidney was nine years old, the family moved to Bathurst where his father was Superintendent of the groundwood mill at Bathurst Pulp and Paper. Following in his father's footsteps, Sidney was employed at the Bathurst Consolidated mill throughout his working life. He spent many hours discussing the latest developments in technology with his younger friends who continued to work at the mill after his retirement in 1979. Sidney had many friends and acquaintances who were a great comfort to him throughout his long and interesting life. John Nöel and the members of the Murray Group as well as the Pathfinders in Big River were among his close friends and will be fondly remembered by the family. Thanks go to those who took the time out of their busy schedules to visit Sidney during his month long hospitalization and especially during the past year at home when he was unable to get out and about. A special thanks goes to Dr. Barnhill and the nurses and sitters of the 2nd and 3rd floors, as well as the Palliative Care unit at Chaleur Hospital for their excellent care of Sidney. He leaves behind him his loving wife, Lucy Catherine, daughter of the late Patrick and Beatrice (Moran) Hennessy, as well as his eight surviving children: Glenys "Sally" (husband Dr. Brian Warriner) of Richmond, BC, Anne (husband Jim MacDonald) of Weekawken, New Jersey, USA, Sidney "Snooker" (wife Donna Hall) of Nelson, BC, son Peter (wife Beverly Doucet) of Bathurst, John (wife Paula Doucet) of Fredericton, Theresa of Bathurst, David of Calgary, AB, and Melynda (husband Dan Weston) of Fredericton. Sidney had twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud and he will be fondly remembered by them forever as Grandpa. The funeral was held in Holy Family Church, Monday October 13th, presided over by Father Jean-Robert Leger. In keeping with Sidney's interest in the preservation of local history, the family would appreciate any donations in his name be made to the Bathurst Heritage Trust Commission, in care of Jessica Ryan, towards the establishment of its new Archival Center in Bathurst.

Stan was a prominent farmer in River Canard and an active member in the community. Stan was a member of the Knights of Columbus in River Canard for over 50 years. He was bestowed the honour of lifetime member of the Optimist International. He served the Town of LaSalle for 21 years on the Court of Revision. He served on the Oldcastle Co-Op Board of Directors for a number of years. Stan was one of the first families to have a stall at the Windsor Market. Stan also drove the bus for St. Joseph School in River Canard. He spent his winters working at Ford and Chrysler (1940-1950). Stan always had a smile on his face and a joke to share. For many years he raised the roof of Rennie's Barn Dance calling square dances-he was the "original rapper". In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Joseph River Canard Restoration Fund. Family and friends will be received at the James H. Carrie "Gladys" Mooney Of Kingston Ontario, wife of the late Charles Mooney, formerly of Napanee passed away at K.G.H., Saturday October 4, 2003, three days before her ninety-first birthday. Born Carrie Gladys Benn, daughter of the late John and Essi e Benn, she was the fourth of seven children. Gladys grew up in the Napanee area, attended Forest Mills and Napanee schools then entered training at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Unfortunately this was cut short due to rheumatic fever. She met and later married Charles Mooney of Napanee at a midnight wedding ceremony November 24, 1934 at Roblin. Gladys and Charles had three children, son John Hugh (died in infancy) and two daughters, Joan and Kay. The family were members at Trinity United Chu rch where Gladys taught Sunday School and was superintendent of the Mission Band and sang in the choir. Later they moved to Kingston where they were members at Princess St. United church where Gladys also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir an d was a member of the U.C.W. She worked as a sales clerk in Gayfair Napanee and Lipsons and S&R in Kingston. A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, Gladys loved spending time with her family and friends. A very independent woman, she drove her car herself and lived in her own home right up to the summer of 2003. Gladys enjoyed knitting and gardening in her spare time. She belonged to the Rotary Ann Club, and loved to go out to dinner with them. Gladys is su rvived by her daughters Joan (Alex) and Kay (Mario, deceased); grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughters; four sisters, a sister-cousin and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, infant son, son-in-law and brothers Wilfred and Kenneth. The funeral was held October 7, 2003 with with Rev. Harold Alston officiating. John was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Dorothy (Fraser) Hoyt. Funeral service was held at Whitehorse United Church on Thursday, October 23, 2003.

SCOTT, LLOYD KENNETH "KEN" - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lloyd Kenneth Scott, 59, of Janeville, which occurred Wednesday (October 22, 2003) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. After an extensive battle with cancer, few will forget the strength, the courage, the determination and the positive attitude and great will to live that he showed consistently. Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of Ada (Glendenning) Scott and the late Kenneth Scott Sr. Besides his mother of Bathurst, and his wife Sandra (Bass) Scott, he is survived by: His three children: Kimberly Devost (Conrad) of Edmundston, NB, Jeffrey Scott (Allison) of Fergus, ON, Todd Scott (Carole) of Bathurst. His five precious grandchildren; Danyka, Brett, Samantha, Amanda and Shane. His only brother; Kirk Scott (Edith) of Bathurst. His sisters; Joyce Branch (Norman) of Bathurst, Thelma Gander (Robert) of Fredericton, Marion Lavigne (Leo) of Sudbury, ON, Margo Smith (Doug) of Bathurst and especially Muriel Basque (John) of Bathurst, who were always there and gave so generously of their time and love. PIKE, LORNE DOUGLAS The death of Lorne Douglas Pike of Keswick Ridge, husband of the late Muriel (McEdwards) Pike, occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Montreal, QC, he was the son of the late Stephen and Alice M. (Knight) Pike. Lorne was a long haul truck driver, employed with General Electric and Sunbury Transport. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Lorne is survived by three sons, David Pike and his wife Jean of Calgary, AB; Robert Pike of Keswick Ridge; and Donald Pike of Windsor, ON; a daughter, Leahn Axiak of Windsor, ON; 6 grandchildren, Kimmy, Billy, Stacey, Scott, Dawn Marie, and Rachael; two great grandchildren, Tristin and Tatitana; and several nieces and nephews. Lorne was predeceased by brothers Stephen (Jim) Pike and Lloyd Pike; and by a sister, Rosamond Beauchamp. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, Brookside Drive at Douglas Avenue, Fredericton North, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel. Mr. Stephen Labelle will officiate. Blanche R. Lutes Blanche R. Lutes 89, of Moncton passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday October 22, 2003. Born in McKees Mills, daughter of the Late William and Ethel (MacDonald) Colburne. Blanche was a former employee of Atlantic Underwear Ltd., member of Lewisville United Baptist Church and attended McKees Mills United Baptist Church. She was a Dominion Life Member of the Lewisville United Baptist Church W.M.S. and enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and working with her flowers.
