POUPARD, Viola Edna (nee Lucier) Passed away on Friday, October 17, 2003, at the Sun Parlour Nursing Home. Viola ascended to Heaven after sharing 88 vibrant and wonderful years of her life with her many friends and family. Beloved wife of the late Ralph Oscar (1982). Dear mother of Ralph Lawrence and wife Kathi of Gesto, Marilyn and husband Michael Kelleher of Belle River, Denise Poupard and husband Larry Hudema of Grand Forks B.C., Charlene (Maling) Floreno and husband Mario of Leamington, and Rosemary and husband Jan Vandenham of Amherstburg. Cherished meme of Jeff and Rachel Maling; Jennifer, Nicole and Elise Poupard; Patrick, Shannon and Sean Kelleher; Jade and Crystal Hudema; and Melissa, Laura, and Emily Vandenham. Predeceased by her parents Matilda and Ferdinand Lucier. Dear sister of the late Eva & (Ed) Grimêmet, Leah & (Leo) Pajot, Irene Lucier, Alfred & (Beatrice) Lucier, Cecile & (Ernest) Mangin, Madeleine & (Leo) Poupard, Albert & (Monica) Lucier, and Eugene & (Agnes) Lucier. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Viola was employed for many years at Champion Spark Plug, the Sapoline Company, and had volunteered many hours of service with both the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and the Windsor Branch of the Canadian Red Cross. AYOTTE, John Baptiste On October 17, 2003, Mr. John Baptiste Ayotte of Edmonton passed away at the age of 88. RAYMOND (RAY) NORMAND 1930-2003 Peacefully, on Sunday, October 19, 2003, at the Riverview Health Centre, Ray passed away at the age of 73 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanette, of 47 years of marriage; daughter Debbie (Brian), Shelly of St. Amant; son Dean (Donna); two granddaughters, Lacey and Samantha; brothers, Cliff, Emile, David and Jerry; sisters, Lucille, Doris and Arlene; in-laws Marion, Enidth and Archie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ray was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Anna Normand, three brothers and two sisters. In compliance with Ray's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. BAIRD, DR. MARION CONSTANCE (McGRATH) - Passed away at The Church Home of St. John & St. Stephen, Saint John, NB Oct. 19. Born at "Glen Grath", Bedford, N.S. in1908, the daughter of Mary (O"Toole) McGrath and Edward (Ned) McGrath, she had a life-long love of nature, gardening, flower arranging, music and the seashore, qualities her parents nurtured in their family. A dedicated educator for over 30 years, she received her B.A. from Mount Saint Vincent College in 1928 and in 1985 a Doctorate of Humane Letters from her beloved alma mater. Dr. Baird began her teaching career at St. Patrick's Boys School in North End Halifax , teaching later at Fort Sackville School, Bedford and Shannon Park School, Dartmouth. She was a member of The Canadian Federation of University Women for many years. Connie and John Wesley Baird, of Windsor, N.S., were married in Halifax in 1942. They resided for over 25 years in Bedford with their daughters, Jane and Deborah. A lifelong interest in art and painting took root with studies at The Nova Scotia College of Art where she received teaching diplomas. Over the years she pursued further art studies and taught. She also played the piano and studied voice, performing in early years. A strong believer in medical research, she was a founding member of the first Alzheimer's Societies in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick (Saint John) and served on the national Alzheimer's board, following the death of her husband, Jack, in 1975. She has provided for research at The Maritime Brain Tissue Bank at Dalhousie University to further study this tragic disease. Connie is survived by her daughters, Jane (David) Barry and Deborah Baird, her sister, Mary Joan (William) Walsh, all of Saint John, two brothers, Frank McGrath and Harold (Helen) McGrath, Moncton, a grand-daughter, Laurie Fisher, Halifax, five grandsons, Patrick, Jonathan, Ryan and Gregor Barry, all of Toronto; Dr. Colin Barry, Ottawa, great-granddaughters Reghan and Kaelin and great grandson, William Barry, 13 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, and more recently, great-great-nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband John W. (Jack) Baird and brothers, Edward McGrath and Gregory McGrath. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations to The McGrath-Baird Award in Gerontology at Mt. St. Vincent University, established by her in memory of her family; the Saint John Alzheimers Society or The Greater Saint John Community Foundation. Drouin, Pauline (née Groulx) 1939-2003 It is with the greatest of sorrow that we announce the passing away of Pauline Drouin, 64 years, of Timmins, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Pauline passed away in the early morning of Oct 17th, 2003 in her daughters home in Chelmsford, with her husband, brothers, sisters, children and grand children at her side. Pauline was born in Rouyn, moved to Timmins and married Marcel Drouin. Pauline retired from the Golden Manor after working there for nearly 20 years. She will be remembered for her huge Sunday Meals, where the entire family and friends would gather Pauline had a flare for elegant clothing and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren so she could spoil them. She now hugs her saviour Jesus Christ, and dances with angels in eternal happiness. Predeceased by her beloved parents Wilfrid and Delia Groulx and by her sister Marcelle Drouin. Pauline's memory lives on with her husband Marcel Drouin and her large caring family her brothers and sisters Jeaninne Drouin (husband- Léo-predeceased) of Timmins, Denise Couture (husband André) of B.C., John Groulx (wife Beatrice) of Timmins, Fern Groulx (wife Annette) of Schumacher, Murielle Cockerline (husband Paul) of Northern Ontario, Gisèle Groulx of B.C. and Fred Groulx (wife Lise) of Timmins. Pauline is survived by her children Irene Drouin (fiancé Pete) of Timmins, Nicole Traynor (husband Shawn) of Chelmsford, Monique Pépin (husband Jacques) of Timmins and André Drouin (wife Lori) of Orléans. HUNTER, Evangeline Jessie (nee Cousineau) April 4, 1924-October 17, 2003 Eva passed away peacefully after a brief illness. She has gone home to be safe in the arms of Jesus. Eva was the 9th and last child of Charles (Pa) and Jessie (Ma) Cousineau. She was predeceased by her many brothers and sisters: Russell, Beaulah, Leonard, Harry, Wilfred, Albert, Laura, and Allen. She is survived by her husband and partner of 53 years, Richard (Dick) Hunter, her three daughters, and nine grandchildren. Left behind to grieve are Helen (Rob) Mitchell of Calgary and their children, Andrew (Marissa), Patrick and Courtenay; Dixie (Keith) Rawlinson of Calgary and their children Sarah, Mattie, Tanya, Devin, Justin and Craig; and Jeanne Hunter (Bruce Madore) of Innisfail, and a very special little dog named Tee'so. Eva was born on the family farm North of Coronation, Alberta. She attended the Sugarbowl one room school house, then High School in Castor, then Coronation. She graduated from the Alberta College in Secretarial Arts. Eva and Dick married on October 23rd, 1950. They raised three daughters, living first in Coronation, then Stettler, Red Deer, and finally Calgary. Eva returned to work, and spent many enjoyable years as the Lease and Grants Clerk at the City of Calgary. Eva loved life. She loved to dance, garden and travel. She loved people. She was kind and generous, and befriended many young women who considered her home their home. When Eva and Dick retired, they moved to Innisfail, where Eva's garden was her pride and joy. Eva's favorite song was Frank Sinatra's "My Way", and it can certainly be said that it was her motto for life. A service will be held for Eva in Innisfail at St. Mark's Anglican Church at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22nd, the Venerable Reverend Peter Millen presiding. Grave side service will be held at the Coronation Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 25th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

JUSTASON, DOROTHY JANE - The death of Dorothy Jane Justason, of Magazine Street, Saint John, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 18th, 2003. Born on Campobello Island, she was the wife of the late Harold W. Justason and daughter of the late Albert and Mary Pauline (Calder) Lank. Dorothy lived in Black's Harbour for many years, where she worked for Connors Bros Ltd. and was past President of the Women's Liberal Association. Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Doak (Charles) of Rothesay, NB, one brother, Harold W. Justason Jr. of Scarborough, ON, one sister, Elizabeth Lewrey of Florida, grandchildren: Susan, Tanya and Daniel Justason, D. Jayne Brodersen (Philip), Shona Stubbs (Peter), Lisa Cameron (Daniel), Shelley Dauphinee (Timothy) and step-granddaughter, Marlene O'Neill, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Valerie M. O'Hara 1948 - 2003 Valerie M. O'Hara, 54, of Riverview, NB, passed away at the Moncton Hospital, Sunday, October 19, 2003 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Taymouth, NB on November 11, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Jean E. (Norrad) Greene. Valerie was a retired member of the teaching profession, having taught at Gunnsingville School in Riverview. She attended St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, was a member of the NBTA and was the founder of Childrens Writers Group. Valerie enjoyed gardening, writing and painting. Mr. George M. Bruce 1915-2003 MIRAMICHI, NB - Mr. George Miller Bruce, husband of Barbara Bruce, of the Veterans' Wing, of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, and formerly of Howard St., passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Friday evening, October 17, 2003, at the age of 88. Born in Montreal, P.Q., he was the son of the late W. George and Harriet (Moore) Bruce. He was a retired employee of Henry Birk & Sons Jewelers, in Montreal. He was a Veteran of the 2nd World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following the war he served with the R.C.A.F. at #10 A.O.S., Chatham, as a Navigation Instructor, with the rank of Flight Lt. He was a member of Branch #24/106, Royal Canadian Legion, Montreal and a member of Knox Crescent Kensington First Presbyterian Church, Montreal. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert; seven sisters, Beatrice, Marguerite, Gabrielle, Yvonne, Mandeza, Marie-Anne and Marie. Sister Alberta lived her mission in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, PQ. (1931-1934 ), Chatham, NB. (1934-1936), Dalhousie, NB. (1936-1954), Rogersville, NB. (1954-1958) and in Moncton, NB (1958-2003). 1925-2003. Died after a difficult and complicated illness on October 17, 2003, in his seventy-eighth year. Much beloved husband and true companion of Theo (Millicent) and adored father of Barbara (Dietmar Kokemohr) and Claire (Victor Fritz) who survive him. Predeceased by his only brother, John, he will be sadly missed by the remaining family in Ilkley, Yorks. He will also be sorely missed by the Newson clan, his "Canadian family", as well as by many wonderful friends and very special neighbours. He served his country in WWII at a "hush-hush" army unit, part of Bletchley Park. Emigrating to Canada in 1957, he made Montreal his home and enjoyed a successful career at CAE Industries lasting thirty-four years - latterly as Director of Estimating. He will be remembered by all for his ready wit, sharp intelligence, and great heart. On October 15, 2003, last of his generation at the age of ninety-four. Beloved husband of Betty, and stepfather of Rolande Parel (Anthony); Isabel Darin-Zanco and step-grandfather to Tara (Peter), Kamala (Evan), Darin and Earl (Leslie). Devoted great-grandfather of Aidan, Asher, Caleb, Sasha, Rachel, Megan and Samantha. Also survived by loving nieces Sheila, Diane, Nina, Arlene, Debbie and their children and grandchildren. Harry was a proud, decorated veteran of the Second World War, Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, serving in France, Germany and Holland. For over forty years, he sang in the choir of the Shaare Zedek Congregation, retiring at the age of seventy-five. A self-taught man who loved knowledge, he shared his intelligence, wit and love of music and literature with everyone. He was loving, generous and will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. We were lucky to have him with us for such a long time. BOUDREAU, Dr. John Francis "Jack"-Surrounded by his entire family, Dr. Jack passed away peacefully and with great faith in his God, on Saturday, October 18, 2003. Jack was born in Halifax in 1922, the son of Captain Thomas and Beatrice (O'Neill) Boudreau, brother of Marie (MacKinnon), Joan (Cullens) and Larry. Jack spent several active years at Dalhousie University culminating with his graduation from Medical School in 1951. During his stay at Dal, he was social director of the Arts and Science Society, Med School Representative to Student Council, president of Student Council, member of Phi Rho Sigma Fraternity and president of the Dalhousie Newman Club. Not surprisingly, Jack graduated with the Dalhousie Gold "D", the Student Council Award and the John Henry Newman Honor Society Gold Key. This all paled in significance to the most fortunate event in his life at the time-he met the love of his life and his wife to be, Corinne "Peggy" Meade and in 1952 they began a union that was to last 51 years. This union was blessed with eight children and several lifetimes of great friends with whom many great times were shared. From 1951 to 1993 Jack shared his gifts of kindness and compassion with thousands of patients in his family practice starting in the upper floor of his parents' home on Robie Street and ending several blocks away in the Halifax Professional Centre. Upon his retirement he was genuinely touched by the many expressions of kindness from countless loyal patients. Over the years Jack also found time to volunteer in his community as chair of the Rockingham School Board, treasurer of the Medical Society of Nova Scotia, chair of Saint Mary's Basilica Parish Council and up to the time of his death, in Pastoral Care at QEII Health Sciences Centre. Jack's most profound love however was for his wife and family to whom he gave himself completely. Great family vacations, countless gatherings were shared with family and friends. 6620 Jubilee Rd. was open to all. The music never stopped. Jack will be lovingly remembered always by his dear wife, Peggy; son, Tom (Mary Beth Fenton) and children Emily, James and Daniel; son, John (Lynn Kazamel) and children John, Thomas and Sarah; son, Robert and children Gregory, Lori, Jeffrey and Justin; daughter, Mary Louise (Kevin Vessey) and children Michael and Corinne; son, Jim (Maureen Killorn) and their son Marc; daughter, Lisa (Mark Mifflin) and children Kathleen, Sam and Heather; daughter, Peggy (Jay Lugar) and children Jenny, Scott and Erin, and son, Paul (Claire Sykora). O'LEARY, FATHER EDWARD EUGENE - The death of Father Edward Eugene O'Leary, a retired priest of the Diocese of Saint John, occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Friday, October 17, 2003. Father O'Leary was born in Richibucto, N.B., on November 22, 1918, a son of the late George E. and Nell E. (Lanigan) O'Leary. After graduating from high school in Richibucto, he attended St. Thomas University in Chatham, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Father Eugene then studied for the priesthood at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Saint John in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on June 3, 1944 by Most Rev. P.A. Bray, C.J.M. After ordination he served as a curate at the Cathedral and at Holy Trinity Parish in Saint John. He served as Administrator of Holy Trinity for a brief period. Then he served in the Parish of St. Alphonsus, Hampton, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Rothesay, followed by St. Stephen's Parish, Milltown, and again for a number of years in Holy Trinity Parish, Saint John. He was then appointed Administrator of the Mission of St. Ann's in Glen Falls in July 1956. After celebrating Mass for several years in the former St. Joachim's Hall on Rothesay Ave, the sod was turned for the new St. Ann's Church on May 30, 1961. The new church was dedicated on December 17, 1961 and as founding Pastor, Fr. O'Leary celebrated the first Midnight Mass there on December 25,1961. Fr. O'Leary continued to served St. Ann's Parish with distinction until his retirement in 1996. He was pre-deceased by his only brother, Joseph M. O'Leary, who died in Northern Ireland in 1945 while serving with the R.C.A.F. He is survived by several cousins and many friends and former parishioners. Father O'Leary's body will be resting at the Cathedral Rectory, 91 Waterloo St., Saint John, with visitation on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 and on Monday afternoon from 2 to 4. On Monday evening the body will be translated to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 6:45 for Solemn Vespers at seven o'clock. After Vespers, visitation will continue in the Cathedral until nine o'clock. Father O'Leary's Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral on Tuesday morning at twelve noon.
