At the Ottawa Civic Heart Institute, Ottawa, on Monday October 13, 2003, at the age of 80 years. Loving mother to her daughter Vivian Schulman (Klaus Baslau), Geneva, Switzerland; and her son Victor Schulman of Denman Island, British Columbia. Sadly missed by several nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Viola Schulman of Montreal. Predeceased by her devoted husband of 59 years, Saul Schulman; her parents Max and Chana Smolkin (beloved step-mothers Celia and Sarah); and brothers Sam, Bill, and Julius Smolkin. Edith was active and a vibrant member of the Cornwall community and served in various caring capacities, including with the Beth-El Community, and also as a volunteer on behalf of the Cornwall General Hospital. (Funeral service will be held in the Beth-El Synogogue, 321 Amelia Street, Cornwall on Thursday October 16, 2003 at 1:00 PM) Rabbi Reuven Bulka officiating. Né à Cocagne, il était fils de feu John Surette et de feu Agnès Breau. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Éveline (Poirier) de Shédiac; deux fils: Jean de Halifax et Henri de Floride; trois soeurs: Léa Martin et Anita Babineau, toutes deux de Cocagne et Imelda Surette de Québec; deux frères: Robert (Edmée) et René (Émerise), tous deux de Cocagne; trois petites-filles: Diane, Renée et Michelle, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Deux petits-fils: Françis et Johnny, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle est exposée à la salle mortuaire de l’église Saint-Pierre à Cocagne d’où les funérailles auront lieu le mercredi 15 octobre, à 11h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial. MARIE JEANNETTE RACHEL GIBB (nee DUFAULT) January 9, 1930-October 13, 2003 Jeannette passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 13, 2003 surrounded by her loving family at her bedside. She was predeceased by her parents, Pierre and Edna Dufault; and her oldest brother Emile Dufault. She will be forever remembered by her daughter Patricia Scott (Dale), three grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer and Kristen; and family pet "Sox"; her son Brian Gibb (Sandra Beauchamp); grandchildren, Gabriel and Bertrand. She is also survived by her younger brother Jean Dufault (Claire) and niece Paulette and nephew Jean and family pets "Amie" and "Min-Min". She will also be lovingly remembered by the extended family of Charlie and Eva Dufault and "ma tante Gilberte", a family which she cherished dearly. Jeannette was born and raised in St. Boniface where she attended school. In her adult years she was employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Hudson's Bay Company. She finished her career with Air Canada in the Finance Department where she retired after 23 years service in November of 1993. Mom's greatest love in life was her family. She was a friend to all who knew her. The family is grateful for the loving care Mom received from the home care workers, especially Eliza, Ana, Norma, Del and Selema. At Jeanette's request, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 16 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. MADLYN HARVEY (Nee Valade) It is with sadness that the family of Madlyn Harvey announces her peaceful passing at the family home on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the age of 71 years. Madlyn was predeceased by her parents Irene & Roger Valade; brother Andy and brother-in-law Nick Matasich. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jim of 52 years; children Donna (Al) Parachin of Kettleby, Sandra Pomeroy of Pickering, Perry (Maureen) Harvey of Timmins and John (Connie) Harvey of Timmins; cherished grandchildren Candis Parachin, Adam (Deborah) Parachin, Karen and Laura Pomeroy, Chad and Pamela Harvey, Patricia (Glen) French, Bradley, Amber and Ashley Harvey; precious great granddaughter Hannah-Paige French and sister Pierrette Matasich. Madlyn was a devoted wife, caring mother, wonderful grandmother and proud great grandmother. She was always devoted to her family, and quietly remained faithful to her church. Madlyn was born on October 9, 1932 in Timmins. She met and later married her husband Jim on April 26, 1951. Madlyn worked as an Administrator for Transport Canada at the Timmins Airport for many years and retired in 1995. In her quiet time she enjoyed knitting, rug hooking and reading. Mr. John Joseph Mongeon 2003 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of a beloved husband, father and grandfather, on Friday October 10th, 2003. He will be deeply missed by his wife Josy. Loving father to his daughter Trina (Paul) Fauteux. He will live in the memories of his precious grandsons John and Nicholas. He will be missed by his brothers-in-law Joe (Germaine) Jaworski and Milt (Arlene) Jaworski, as well as his sisters-in-law Marion Mongeon and Nancy (Marcesso) Marcaccini. He was predeceased by his parents Betty and Gerald Mongeon, and brother Robert Mongeon. He had an avid love of sports, as he coached the women’s softball team, he was a former Jr. A Hockey player with the St. Catherine Teepees, a hockey referee, avid golfer, town councellor in charge of recreation, as well as being a devoted Chicago Blackhawks fan. He was employed with Abitibi-Price for 35 years, first as a paper maker and then in Industrial Relations. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, his ever present sense of humor coupled with his love of people endeared him to everyone he met. He was born and raised in Iroquois Falls but spent the last 7 years in Waterloo watching his grandsons grow. He will always live in the hearts and memories of those who knew him. AMY PRUDEN (nee BEAUBIEN) Suddenly at her residence on Friday, October 10, 2003, our beloved mother and grandmother Amy Pruden passed away at the age of 76 years. Mom was employed for over 25 years at the St. Boniface Hospital. Independence was important to her, and she kept it until the end. Mom was witty, possessing a great sense of humour and "in her day" she loved to dance. Family meant everything to her, and she worked hard at raising her four children. Thanks Mom! Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jo-Ann (Laurie) Creighton and children, Dirk (Dulce), Nicolle and Natalie; Patti (George) Lanaway; Michelle (Patrick) Barber and children, Dylan and Brittany; her son Mark (Joedi) Pruden and children, Cole, Morgan, Maxwell and Joshua. RAINVILLE, Lois, Henrietta, Ruth (Nee Nolan) In loving memory of Lois Henrietta Ruth Rainville (nee Nolan), 58 years of Sudbury who passed away Saturday evening, October 11th, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Chapleau. Lois grewup in Renabie moving to Sudbury in 1968. She was a community member of the Missanabie Cree 1st Nations. Lois courageous battle with failing health inspired all who knew her. After this lengthy illness she was taken away to a place where there is no pain. Lois loved people and loved to laugh. She worked for many years in the service industry. She managed the Villager restaurant and she was the assistant manager at Pharma Plus until retirement. She was a keen bingo player and she enjoyed travelling. The focus of her life was her family. She was happiest when in their company especially her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed but always fondly remembered. She was loved by all who knew her. Beloved wife of Paul Rainville of Sudbury. Loving mother of Kim Rainville (wife Lori) of Sault Ste. RN Jan. 23, 1908-Oct. 12, 2003 Ella Gertrude Smith, former Director of Nursing at Kingston Psychiatric Hospital (Ontario Hospital) and former active member of Zonta Club, Louise Rebekah Lodge #10 and several charitable organizations. E lla Smith and her good friend Mildred Blackadder were active promoters of the Zion Complex at 106 Pine Street. Later she became a resident, a member of the Board and continued her active participation at Zion United Church. Miss Smith was predeceased by her parents, Eva Emily Coulter and Arthur Thomas Smith, her sisters Lena Alton, Mamie Patterson and Aleda Ashley and one brother Charles Stewart Smith. She is survived by her loving nephew Russel Patterson his wife Sharon and their sons, Timothy, his wife Christine and daughter Carly, and Christopher Patterson. Russ and Sharon are grateful to Aunt Ella's friends from the Zion Complex, the staffs of Trillium Ridge and Rideaucrest Care Centres and her long-time friend Anne Brant for their lovi ng support and care. Although I grew up in St. Jean Baptiste, my early married years were spent farming in St. Joseph. After moving to Winnipeg in 1957, I provided for my family by working as a carpenter in various places in Manitoba, British Columbia, and the great white north on the Dew line and Hydro dams, retiring in 1992. I enjoyed volunteering at different activities as a member of the Knights of Columbus (Goulet Council) and Festival du Voyageur. I sure enjoyed playing pool at the Norwood Legion, eating out with friends and family, playing "31", cruising in my Grand Marquis and winter vacations in Osoyoos, BC. I loved gardening, even if I did overfertilize my grass from time to time. Funeral will take place at St. Boniface Cathedral on Wednesday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing at 1:30 p.m. until time of service. LAPORTE, Norma (nee Little) 70years, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2003 at University Hospital in London surrounded by her family and close friends. The angels in Heaven are rejoicing today for they have a new member within their ranks. Loving mother of Brian and wife Julie of London, Gary and wife Joan of Tecumseh, John Marc and wife Kim and Danny and wife Teresa. Survived by husband Rene. Treasured Nana to Louis, Natalie, Katie, Sam, Gracie, Andrew and Marc. Predeceased by parents Joseph Raymond (1975) and Martha (Labute) (2001) Little. Cherished sister/sister-in-law of Janet and Maurice Poirier of Essex; Bernice and Ted (1986) Merner; Marvin and Annette Little of Okanagan Falls, B.C.; Bob (2003) and Annette Little of LaSalle; Ron and Donna Little; Paul and Janice (2001) Little, London; Lorraine and Tom Boutette of London. Best friend of Sister Paulette Mellon. Many nieces and nephews will sadly miss "Auntie Norma" for whom she held a special bond. Norma was always "on the go" and will be fondly remembered by many dear friends whose lives she touched with her infectious laugh, bright smile and open heart. Norma took all her roles in life very seriously. Be it family for friend, she belonged to everyone who knew her. Norma's gifted organizational skills made her an exceptional secretary. She worked for the YCS and YCW for many years and for the Windsor Separate School Board for over 30 years at several different schools. The many teachers, staff and hundreds of students that she encountered will never forget her for her senses of commitment, dedication and wonderful caring nature. She was an active member of Theatre Alive. Norma was small in stature but she was so grand in spirit that she defeated cancer for 24 years and succumbed only to the completeness of her life. Warm and sincere thanks and gratitude go to Sister Paulette Mellon, Sister Eileen Marie Hunter, Robert, Claire and all the Sisters at Holy Rosary Convent, and all who visited and cared for her in the last while. Born in Williamsburg, NB he was a son of the late Ian and Annabelle (Hay) Fullarton. Mr. Fullarton was a member of the Cross Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, gardening and hockey. Swazey (Jason) of Boiestown; 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; three sisters, Joan O'Hara (Pat) of Stanley, Winnifred Mallock (Ralph) of Fredericton and Mabel Dorcas of Stanley; four brothers, Ronald Fullarton (Margaret) of Williamsburg, Reginald Fullarton (Jessie) of Williamsburg, Martin Fullarton (Maxine) of Stanley and Billy Fullarton (Betty) of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. MARION It is with great sadness that we announce that Marie Marion passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at her home in St. Ann's at the age of 100 years. She is survived by her four children Lucille Banda of Saskatoon, Aurore (Leon) Sanche of Marcelin, SK, Arthur Marion of Saskatoon and Fernand (Jeanne) Marion of Winnipeg, MB; 24 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren as well as one brother Donat (Evelyn) of Lively, ON; and two sisters Alice Ayotte of Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB and Bernadette Labossiere of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her loving husband Adelard in 1989; two daughters Alice in infancy, and Florence in 1971; a son in law Steve Banda in 1998 and daughter in law Geraldine Marion in 2001; three brothers Victor, Adelard, and Emile; three sisters Antoinette, Aurise and Yvonne; four grandchildren Harold Banda, Arthur Sanche, Barbara Marion and Lorie Marion. Marie was born May 15, 1903 in St. Jean Batiste, Manitoba, third oldest in a family of 10. Marie was only 14 years old when she lost her mother, and ably stepped into the role of surrogate mother to her younger siblings. She married Adelard Marion on November 23, 1920 and they shared 68 years of marriage. Marie and Adelard moved from Manitoba in 1929 to settle near Marcelin, SK. Here they farmed until later moving into the town of Marcelin where they lived until 1977. It was then that they moved to Saskatoon, making their home at Cosmopolitan Court, and then St. Ann's Residence. Marie moved in July 2003 to St. Ann's Home. She was involved in the Marcelin CWL and loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Marie truly believed that hard work never hurt anyone and she worked hard throughout her life, always busy sewing, gardening, and working alongside her husband on the farm. In later years, she enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, and visiting with her family and friends. Even at the end, although her body was getting tired, her mind was always sharp. She enjoyed hearing about family and especially treasured her many pictures of all the generations. Marie had a strong faith in the Lord, in the power of praying the rosary and spent many hours praying for her family. Marie had the wonderful opportunity in May of 2003 to celebrate her 100th birthday along with many of her family and friends. She was very proud of the fact that at 100 years old, she still lived in her own apartment and got to mass everyday on her scooter. Her birthday party was something she had looked forward to with such anticipation and she was so pleased to see everyone there who celebrated with her. Thanks to all of her caregivers, The Home Care staff who took such good care of her in her apartment, the staff at St. Joseph's Home during her respite stay; Dr. Shannon and staff on the Orthopedic Ward at St. Paul's Hospital during her recent stay there for hip surgery, and the wonderful staff at St. Ann's who provided her with care, compassion and support during the last months of her life; her family doctor, Dr. Nykiforuk who cared for her over many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Senior Citizen's Village, 2910 Louise Street, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L8 or a charity of the donor's choice. The Vigil of Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 and the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated by Father M. Hertz O.M.I. on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 1:00 p.m., both from the Chapel at St. Ann's Home, 2910 Louise St. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
