Peacefully in St. Catharines, on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, Eileen passed away in her eighty-eighth year. She will be sadly missed by her children Peter Turner and his wife Gussy of Dunham, Quebec, Timothy Turner and his wife Barbara Potts of Ottawa and Martha Turner and her husband Lawrence Peebles of St. Catharines. Eileen's grandchildren Benjamin, Patrick, Amy, Alexander, Matthew and Geoffrey Turner and Charles Peebles have fond memories of their grandmother. She is survived by her brother David Johnson and his wife Marilyn of Beaconsfield, Quebec. She is predeceased by her husbands Charles Norwood Turner (1961) and Ernest T.E. Griffith (1979). A private family service will be held in Montreal. Interment to follow at Mount Royal Cemetery. 1939 - 2003À Montréal, le 6 octobre 2003, à l'âge de 64 ans, est décédé André Guénette, fils du Dr Eugène Guénette et de Georgette Archambault. Après des études secondaires (au Collège Stanislas et au Séminaire de Joliette), André vogue vers la France où il amorce des études de philosophie à la Sorbone. De retour à Montréal il cumule deux maîtrises, l'une en philosophie et l'autre en anthropologie (concentration archéologie). Il fut alors invité à se joindre à une équipe de chercheurs pour effectuer des fouilles archéologiques dans le bassin ceinturant la ville de Mexico. Féru de voyages, André avait parcouru tant l'Amérique et l'Europe que l'Afrique et l'Asie. Il planifiait d'ailleurs un long périple en Chine quand il fut terrassé par la maladie. Depuis plusieurs années, il oeuvrait comme Commissaire industriel à la Ville de Montréal. André laisse dans le deuil ses frères et soeurs, Pierre, ptre, Jean, Suzanne (Ronald Riopel) et Marcel (Suzie Levac), ses neveu et nièces, Julie Guénette (Denis), Mathieu Guénette (Nancy), Geneviève Riopel (Christian) et Catherine Riopel. Il laisse également dans le deuil plusieurs parents et ami(e)s et ses collègues de travail. MARTIN, Mary Emily (Millie)-The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, October 9, 2003, of Mary Emily (Millie) Martin, aged 78 years, at the Garden Home, Charlottetown, P.E.I., after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. BRENDA MARGRET CHARTRAND (nee STENSON) April 17, 1950-October 8, 2003 It is with great sadness the family of Brenda Chartrand announces that she has lost her battle with cancer. Brenda spent her last 5 and one half months at Grace Hospital Palliative Care where everyone grew very attached to her. Brenda is lovingly remembered by her three children, Jason, Denise and Kevin, and Lainie; her mother Violet Stenson; four brothers, four sisters and their families. Brenda was predeceased by her father Stanley Stenson, January 2, 1998; her former husband Wilson Chartrand, July 30, 1996; and nephew Daniel Stenson October 2, 2000. Melvin S. Martin 1935 - 2003 The death of Mel Martin, age 67, of Riverview and Pointe du Chene occurred at the Spencer Memorial Home on Wednesday, October 8, 2003. Mel had been in declining health since suffering a brain aneurysm in December 1996. Born in Kouchibouguac on November 18, 1935, he was the twin son of the late Marion (Thurrott) and Kenneth Martin. He was raised in Richibucto, NB and moved to Moncton to take employment with the CNR in the Provident Fund Office of the Accounting Department. From there he pursued a career in the insurance industry with his final position being Branch Manager of Lindsey Morden Claim Services Ltd. in Moncton. He was a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada; served as Vice President of (NB) Maritime Insurance Adjusters Association and a member of the Honorable Order of Blue Goose International. Mel also served for over thirty years with the Canadian Armed Forces Reservists and retired in 1991 as Brigadier General commanding the Atlantic Militia Area. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He was a life honourary member of the Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Association, life member of the Garrison Officers' Mess and honourary member of the United Services Institute as well as several other military associations. Any spare time was spent enjoying his cabin cruiser and cottage life. He was an executive member of the Shediac Bay Yacht Club and a founding shareholder of Pointe du Chene Marina where he also served in several positions on the Board of Directors. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth (Perry); son, Lance (Jeanne Morey); daughter, Shawne (Brent) Ross; son, Ken (Darlene); twin brother, Malcolm (Corinne); and grandchildren, Sara and Rebecca Morey, Sean and Brian Ross, Amanda and Michael Gilbert and great grandson Jeremy Prosser and by several nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving visitors at the Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Joyce Coates SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Joyce V. Coates, age 90, of Sackville, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Wednesday, October 8, 2003. Born in 1913 in Rainhill, Lancashire, England, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Edith (Jeffries-Davis) Rogers, and immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1929. They settled in Baie Verte, New Brunswick. Upon her marriage to William O. Coates in 1935, she moved to Jolicure, NB and lived there for all her married life. She was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Mount Whatley. She is survived by two sons, John (Robyn) of Fredericton and Bruce (Genie) of Point de Bute; one daughter, Ruth (Martin) Linden of Miramichi, NB; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Moir of Sackville, and Cicely (Douglas) Stack of Oxford, NS; and one brother, Leonard (Olga) Rogers of Winnipeg, MN. Driscoll M. Trenholm CAPE SPEAR, NB - The death of Driscoll Trenholm, age 88, of Cape Spear, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 9, 2003. Born in Cape Spear, he was a son of the late Mitchell and Janet (Goodwin) Trenholm. He was a lifelong fisherman and farmer. Driscoll will be sadly missed by his wife the former Catherine Hutchison, Cape Spear; five sons, Robert (Willa), Halifax, Lyman (Christine), Carl (Muriel), Harold (Oressa), all of Cape Spear, Wilbert,(Georgina) Prince George, BC; seven daughters, Mona (Irwin) Wood, Truro, Darlene (Peter) Pierce, Quispamsis, Isabel (Arthur) Simpson, Hampton, NB, Margaret Anne (Danny) Edmunds, Bonnie Trenholm and Elaine Gray all of Moncton, Betty (Jim) Primmer, Wainwright, BC; two sisters, Imelda Trenholm, Northport, NS, Helen Allen, Scoudouc, NB; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Larry; a daughter, Norma; a grandaughter, Sandra; two brothers, Hasson and George; and four sisters, Attalissa, Verda, Hazel and Sylvia Allen. He had a special place in his heart for his best friend Buster the dog. The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 W. Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) with visitation Friday from 7 to 9 pm. and Saturday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at 2 pm. Grandmother of Elaine McLean (husband Scott) of Sudbury, Michael Bussière of Toronto, Carole Keenan (husband Craig) of Sudbury, Richard Bussière of London, Ont., Mona Pepin (husband Barry) of Edmonton and Gordon Kelly (wife Carole) of Ottawa. Great grandmother of 10 great grandchildren; Connor & Heather McLean, Ryan & Cameron Keenan, Ryan & Shaun kelly, Donna, Debbie, Diana & Michael Pepin. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Dear sister of George Carlen (wife Marg) of Toronto, Lucy Webb (late husband Howard) of Thunder Bay, the late Limpy & Sam Rotar and the late Lawrence Carlen. Anne was born in St-Pierre, Quebec on December 23, 1914. She moved to Timmins at the age of 3 years old where she grew up, met her husband Rudolphe "Rod" and raised a family. Funeral mass will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2003 from Sacred Heart Church. Interment at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today with prayers at 8 p.m. in Huskilson's Funeral Home, Barrington.
