1917 - 2003 À l'hôpital Pierre Boucher de Longueuil, le 8 octobre 2003, est décédée paisiblement, entourée des siens, madame Albina Jomphe Trépanier, née à Port Meunier, Île Anticosti, le 17 septembre 1917. Institutrice à Natashquan et à Havre St-Pierre, elle consacra sa vie, avec amour, à sa famille. Elle vécut à Hauterive, Sept-Îles, Ste-Foy et Chambly. Son époux, Fernando Trépanier, ses soeurs, Cécile et Lucienne (soeur Lucie du Sacré-Coeur), ses enfants, Lucienne (Léo Léveillé), Pierre (Jocelyne Chouinard), Guy (Lily-Anne Lauzon), Louis (Christine Ravary), Diane (Krishan Metha), Michel (Claire Frenette), Pauline (Raynald Samson), ses nombreux petits-enfants, neveux, nièces et amis la regrettent déjà. ROGERSVILLE - Accidentellement à Collette (N.-B.), le mercredi 8 octobre 2003, à l’âge de 73 ans, est décédé Son Excellence Mgr Donat Chiasson, c.s.c., archevêque émérite de Moncton, domicilié à Rogersville. Né le 2 janvier 1930 à Paquetville, il était fils de feu Louis Chiasson et de feu Anna Godin. Il laisse dans le deuil trois frères: père Elphège de Pokemouche, Victor (feu Alphonsine) de Tracadie-Sheila et Gilles (Diane) d’Ottawa; une belle-soeur, Marie (feu Ernest) de Moncton, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Après ses études primaires à l’école du village, il a fait ses études classiques à l’Université Saint-Joseph d’où il a reçu un diplôme en 1952, ensuite au séminaire de Halifax et a été ordonné prêtre le 6 mai 1956. Il a travaillé dans plusieurs paroisses dans le diocèse de Bathurst et plus tard a fait un stage d’étude à Rome et à Bruxelles. Il a travaillé en pastorale diocésaine, a été professeur de philosophie à l’Université de Bathurst et est devenu plus tard curé de Petit-Rocher. En 1972, il a été choisi pour devenir le troisième archevêque de Moncton. Il a occupé ce poste jusqu’à sa retraite en septembre 1995. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h, le samedi 11 octobre, au salon funéraire Frenette, 88, rue Church à Moncton (858-1900, www.salonfrenette.com), et le dimanche 12 octobre, de 14h à 21h en la Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, rue St-George à Moncton. Most Reverend Donat Chiasson, c.s.c., 75 years, of Rogersville, Archbishop Emeritus of Moncton, passed away accidentally in Collette, NB on Wednesday October 8, 2003. Born January 2, 1930 in Paquetville, he was the son of the late Louis, and Anna (Godin) Chiasson. After his primary schooling, he attended Saint Joseph's University, Memramcook, from 1945 until 1952. He entered Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax, and was ordained priest May 6, 1956. He was curate at Caraquet from 1956 until 1958, at Lameque from 1958 until 1959, then undertook further studies in Theology and Catechetics in Rome, and in Lumen Vitae in Belgium. Back in Canada, he was appointed curate at Grande-Anse from 1961 to 1963, then appointed a teaching post at Bathurst College from 1963 until 1965. In 1965, he was appointed Pastoral Director for the Diocese of Bathurst, while retaining the posts of Chaplain to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament (1965-1967), curate at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bathurst (1967-1970), and co-ordinator for the catechetical program in the diocese from 1961 until 1970. In 1970, he was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Bathurst, and pastor in Petit-Rocher parish. Il aimait travailler dans le bois, la pêche, la chasse, le jardinage ainsi que recevoir la visite des membres de sa famille. Il fut précédé dans la mort par sa fille Diane Beauvais ainsi que par quatre fils : Lionel, Léo, Jean-Claude et Jean-Paul. He enjoyed working in the woods, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his large family. Mr. Beauvais was predeceased by daughter Diane Beauvais, and sons Lionel, Léo, Jean-Claude and Jean-Paul. BRADLEY Elaine Marion (Delisle) passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2003, surrounded by her 3 children. Born July 17, 1927 in Salmon Arm, BC, Elaine spent her youth in Chilliwack, BC. Elaine later moved to Vancouver, where she received her nursing diploma from VGH in 1950. The following year, Elaine was one of the first people to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from U.B.C. Elaine was a pioneer in home care nursing with the Simon Fraser Health unit from 1973 to 1988, and later with the BC Ministry of Health, prior to retiring at the age of 60. She remained active on the board of VGH until 1996. In her youth, Elaine enjoyed a love of flying. She was the first woman in Chilliwack to receive a pilot's licence. In 1950 she was declared the best amateur flier in western Canada, and was the first woman to compete for the national Webster Trophy. Many happy sumêmers were spent at the family cabin at Cultus Lake, where Elaine enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Elaine is lovingly survived by her children Susan, Doug (Susan), John and her much cherished grandchildren Andrew, Stephen, Philip, Elizabeth, and Clive. Elaine will be remembered as a compassionate and courageous woman, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Dr. Warneboldt for his care of Elaine, and also the home care and home support staff. A Celebration of Elaine's life will be held on Tuesday October 14th, at 1:00 p.m., at Burnaby Funeral Directors, 4276 Hastings St. Burnaby BC. GARNIER, Reginald E., CD-It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reginald Earl Garnier, CD, age 77, on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at his residence. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late James Ralph and Sadie (Ogden) Garnier. He was married to the late Georgena Foote (Burin, NL), who passed away in 1990. Reg was a veteran of two wars. He served with the 17 Duke of York-Royal Canadian Hussars during the Second World War and with the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Korea. He also served with Royal Canadian Provost Corps. for NATO, Hamer, Germany, Newfoundland and Gagetown, N.B. He retired from the military attaining the rank of sergeant. He worked as a constable with the North Sydney Police Force until his retirement in 1979. He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish, North Sydney, lifetime member and past vice-president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 19, North Sydney and past president of CUPE, North Sydney. He was also a member of the Northern Yacht Club, North Sydney, where he had provided security and could be found wishing for the swinging bells. Reg was an avid fisherman and hunter with a love for the outdoors. His greatest love besides his family was the annual Garnier Family Reunion held every year in Ste. Anne de Beaupre, Que. Despite failing health he attended his last reunion in July. He is survived by son, Robert (Lynda) Garnier, and a very special grandson Adam, North Sydney, with whom he shared many scooter rides and happy times; daughter Audra (Derek) Theriault, Sydney Mines; sister, Polly Young, North Sydney; brothers, Don, Sydney; Lonnie (Jean), North Sydney; John (Josie), Oromocto, N.B.; Wally, Kitchener, Ont.; Clyde (Evelyn), Ottawa, Ont.; many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by sisters, Patricia Hamilton and Shirley Roussell; brothers, Jim, Sidney and Terry (all of Ontario). There is no visitation by request.
