HUBERT HENRY SEARLE It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Hubert (Bert) Searle on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at the age of 79. He passed away suddenly due to complications after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 13, 1924. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marge; two daughters, Margaret (Stanley) Blasky and Patricia (George) Wicek; sister, Elsie (Bill Walton); grandchildren, Lori (Brent) Farrow, Chris (Rebecca) Blasky, Tammy (Colin) Colliou, Tracy (Gary) Jensen, Sherry (Kevin) Randall, David Searle, and Stephan (Stacey) Wicek; and great-grandchildren, James Farrow, Jerald Eyford, Nicholas Eyford, and Tyler Randall. He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Hubert Searle; brothers, Derek and Erik Searle; and his son, Colin. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the compassionate staff at the Riverside Health Care Hospital in Fort Frances and the Intensive Care staff at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg who did all they possibly could to save him, and for that we will always be grateful. Cremation has taken place. A service for family and friends will be held Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Salvation Army, or the charity of your choice. Thanks for the wonderful years you gave us, And for all the good times we shared. We only pray that when you left us, You knew how very much we cared. God saw you getting very tired, When a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you, And whispered, “Come with me.” So when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again.

MARY ‘EVELYN’ ORLESTE NIELSON After a courageous battle with cancer, Evelyn Nielson, 70, of Pattulo Township, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at the Rainy River Hospital in Rainy River, Ont. with her family by her side. Evelyn was born March 5, 1933 in Blue Township, Ont., to Carman and Mary Selman. As a young woman, she spent her summers waitressing at local tourist camps. There, she met Doug Nielson and they were married April 16, 1952. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, curling, and fishing. She also was a member of the United Church Women. Evelyn truly enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She leaves behind her husband, Doug; sons, Brian of Emo, Ont., Bruce and wife, Sandy, and Maury and wife, Cindy, all of Stratton, Ont., Roger of Baudette, Mn., and Lonny of Clearwater, Ont.; grandchildren, Tracy (Jeff) Brown, Kelly, Amy, Kevin, Krista, Katelyn, Tyler, and Carla Nielson, and Darren Lundgren; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Pratt and Hunter Brown. Also surviving are her sister, Beatrice Medwechuk; and brothers, Leonard Selman and wife, Sally, and Irvine Selman. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Carman and Mary Selman; son, James; and brothers, Arnold and Howard. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton Millennium Hall in Stratton, Ont. Rev. Barbara Miller officiated, with interment in Pattullo Cemetery in Pattullo Township. Pallbearers were Carman Selman, Larry Medwechuk, Jack Medwechuk, Terry Nielson, Walter Hartnell, and Arthur Selman. Honourary pallbearers were all of Evelyn’s family and friends. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 573, Rainy River, Ont., P0W 1L0.

Mawhiney, Roy Charles Age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 7, 2003 at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Dorothy, and his four daughters and their husbands, Susan and Terry, Anne-Marie, Janice and Walter, and Beth and Tom. Cherished grandfather to Michael and Mark Priest and Robyn and Richard Naylor. Fondly remembered by his sisters Wilma Prentice, Jean Pirie, and Marg Hopkins. Predeceased by his parents, Bill and Bessie, and his sisters Mary Ann Karrys and Pat Brown. Good friend to his brothers-in-law, Bill Pirie, Doug Hopkins, and Lindy Brown. Predeceased by Arn Karrys and Eric Prentice. Over the years, his company was also enjoyed by his many nieces and nephews and their families and by Eleanor and Ken Devlin and Randy and Mary Ollivier. BOWLER, Grantham, With great sadness we announce the death of our beloved father, Grantham Bowler, Dad passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2003 at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. Dad was born in Fort Jameson, Northern Rhodesia and after schooling in England, returned to help run the family farms. During WWII he was stationed in Ceylon and East Africa. With his extended family he emigrated to Canada in 1964, settling in St. Catharines, Ontario on a fruit farm and later became a Realtor. Dad also lived and worked in Calgary, Alberta before retiring to Vancouver, B.C. Dad lived his life with kindness, humour and compassion. Left behind to miss him are his daughters and their families; Christina, Richard, Andrea (Nick Cullingham), David and Catherine Hart, Jennifer, Paul, Andy and Jamie Tizzard, Danuta and Brian De Young, Pamela, Chris, Drake, Sterling and Sasha Speed. DOUCETTE, GEORGE EDGAR The death of George Edgar Doucette of Fredericton occurred October 7, 2003 at the age of 67. Born in Fredericton, he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret Effie (Hickey) Doucette. George had worked at Canadian Cottons and later as a truck driver / equipment operator and in recent years as a crossing guard in Marysville and Barkers Point. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Marysville Branch #15. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Aurele, William and Arthur and sister, Cecilia Robar. Surviving are his wife Anna Marie; daughter, Michelle Murray; step-sons, Warren M. Parker (Vicki) and Brian R. Parker all of Fredericton; brothers, Edward (Glenna), Earl (Florence), Donald (Vera) and Dale (Dianne) all of Fredericton; sisters, Theresa (Ward) Jackson of Shilo, Manitoba, Margaret Opal (Leo) Doucet, Ella Parker and Marie (Clarence) Briggs of Fredericton; six grandchildren, Larrissa, Brianna, Kailey and Emiley Murray and Robbie and Zachary Parker; several nieces and nephews. HENDERSON, MYRTLE ADELAIDE -Peacefully, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on October 7, 2003, Mrs. Myrtle (MacVicar) Henderson, wife of the late Harper Henderson. Born at Canal, NB, on April 22, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Annie Elizabeth (Campbell) MacVicar. She is survived by one step-son, Norval Henderson of Ontario; one step-daughter, Marilyn Pearson of British Columbia; six step-grandchildren; one brother, Milton MacVicar (Alice) of Bonny River, NB; a niece, Beth DeLong (Herb Bartlett) of Old Ridge, NB; two great-nieces, Carla DeLong and Natalie Steen (Kelly); great-great-nephews, Jeremy, Joshua, and Merven, and great-great-niece, Jennifer; and many cousins. Besides her husband, Myrtle was pre-deceased by one sister, Marion MacVicar. Myrtle was a school teacher for over 35 years, and spent over 27 years in the Saint John area as a grade one teacher. She was a member of the Second Falls United Baptist Church and was very active in church activities such as youth and women's groups, as well as the missionary society. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB, with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. RICHARD, WILLIAM (BILL) JOSEPH The death of William (Bill) Joseph Richard of Minto, occurred Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the Queen's North Health Complex, Minto. Born in Minto, N.B., he was the son of the late Emmett and Mabel (Voutour) Richard. Bill is survived by five brothers, Donald of Fredericton, N.B., Emile, Emmett Jr., Emery and Frank all of Minto, N.B., and David of London, Ontario; eight sisters, Leona of Minto, N.B., Alice of Oromocto, N.B., Eva, Linda, Elizabeth and Yvonne all of London, Ontario, Irene of Neguac, N.B., and Marie of Edmonton, AB., several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Emmett in 1989, his mother Mabel in 1999, he was predeceased by brothers, Norman, Raymond and Larry and sister Freda. YOUNG, CHARLES J.M. The death of Charles J.M. Young, age 70, of Fredericton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, October 7, 2003. Born in Fredericton, he was the son of Charles and Helen (Westall) Young. Charles was employed for many years with the Province of N.B. and was Anglican by faith. Surviving are three sisters, Violet Wasson of Ottawa, Helen May Brown of Fredericton and Mary Derrah and husband Edward of New Maryland, two nephews, two nieces and a great nephew. He was predeceased by a sister, Lora Burse, brothers-in-law, Arnold Wasson and Stewart Brown. MARTIN, PAUL LYNWOOD-The death of Paul Lynwood Martin occurred at home with family in Quispamsis on October 7, 2003. He was born in Saint John, NB on February 28, 1924, the son of the late Douglas and Agnes (Malloy) Martin. Since his retirement from Poly-Cello/Eastern Paper Products in 1985, he very much enjoyed summers at Deadmans Harbour. He is best remembered as an avid outdoorsman and was very active in fishing, hunting and trapping. He was a member of the Hammond River Angling Association, Tri-County Trappers Association, Hampton Marsh Committee, NB Fur Harvesters Association and the NB Wildlife Federation. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy (Buckley) and seven children; Jim (Jennifer) of Waweig, Pat (John) Bielli of Quispamsis, Lynn (Sean) Sparks of Hampton, Mike (Rose) of Quispamsis, Judy (Ramon) Martin, Paula Henry, Dean (Kathy) all of Hampton and 18 grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother Jim, one sister Betty McFarlane, a son-in-law David Henry and a grandson Benjamin Martin. Patricia Y. Farrell 1925 - 2003 Patricia Y. Farrell of Riverview and formerly of North York, ON, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at The Jordon Life Care Center in River Glade on Monday evening , October 6, 2003 at the age of 78 years. Born in Capreol, ON on April 9, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Armand and Elizabeth (Picket) Durand. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. Patricia was very kindhearted and compassionate, she dedicated her life to the care of her family whom she enjoyed very much. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 55 years C. Joseph "Joe" Farrell; daughters, Cindy Lewis (John) and Tracey Murray all of Riverview, NB; sons, John (Lynn) of Bridegwater, NS. Dan (Kim) of Dartmouth, NS.
