Passed away peacefully in Powell River, BC on June 26, 2003 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly and grievously missed by family and many many friends. He was a proud Hungarian, as well as a proud Canadian. A memorial service will be held at The Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road on Friday, July 4th, 2003 at 2 p.m.

VACHERESSE, John Joseph "Joe"-69, Riverton, Pictou Co., passed away peacefully at home June 30, 2003. Born in Churchville, August 29, 1933, he was a son of the late Leon and Mary Ann (Woods) Vacheresse. Joe was a retired teacher and principal having taught in many of the Pictou County schools. Joe began teaching at the age of 19 and taught for 34 years. He received his education at Nova Scotia Normal College and later received his BA and MA from Saint Francis Xavier University. Following his retirement from the school board in 1987, Joe enjoyed 11 years of driving with Sobeys (Empire Co.). He always enjoyed life and touched many lives. Music was his passion, a self-taught musician. Joe was the organist at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, where he began playing at the age of 15. Most recently, Joe was organist and choir director at St. Gregory's Parish, and for the Interparish Choir. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He treasured and cherished each precious moment he shared with his grandchildren, Matthew, Druhan, Eric and Alauryn. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Elaine Johnson; daughters, Ann (Thad) Dunn, Hopewell; Carol (Stan) Goodick, Middle Sackville; sister, Dorothy Bonvie, Riverton; many extra special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Jim, Bernie, Adrian; sister, Winnie. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral services for retired Hearst busline owner Maurice René Gauvin, 86, of 713 Kitchener St. were held June 27th, 2003. He died June 24th at Notre-Dame Hospital. Born Feb. 22, 1917 in St-Pamphile, Quebec, he came to the Hearst area in 1949 where he worked for Selin Forest Products. He then operated his Gauvin Bus Line and later drove trucks for Newaygo in Mead until 1976. Described as a generous and caring family man, he joined the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed hunting, fishing, handiwork and playing cards. Predeceased by six older brothers and sisters in Quebec, he leaves his second wife Marguerite (née Payeur) Gauvin of Hearst, daughters Solange (Ben) Morin and Lina (Ghislain) Allard, all of Hearst, Colombe (Richard Autotte) Gauvin of Ste-Adèle, Que., and Jacinthe (Réjean) Jolin of Timmins, and sons Gilbert of Toronto, Yvan (Jeanine) of Windsor, and Mario (Diane) Gauvin of Hearst. Also surviving are his stepsons Bill (Arlene) Crane of Belleville, Bob (Marcelle) Crane of Victoria, B.C., and Mark (Mimi) Crane of Windsor, stepdaughters Agnes (Jim) Hatch of Hearst, and Anita (Moe) Lindsay of Calgary as well as 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Rev. Gérald Chalifoux directed the service at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral. Interment followed at Monsignor Grenier Cemetery.

George Ingram, now of Woodstock and formerly of Kapuskasing, died at his home on June 27, 2003. He was 75 years-old. Mr. Ingram received his BASc degree from the University of Toronto, was a director/technical and environmental with Spruce Falls Power and paper Co. Ltd., received an Ontario Centennial Medal and was an honorary life member of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario. He was also a past president of the Ontario Hospital Association and a longtime member and former chair of the Sensenbrenner Hospital Board of Directors. He is survived by Alison (née Hudson) and children Sherry (Alan) Lake of Guelph, Ron (Barb) of Bracebridge and Ken (Leslie) of Cambridge. Also surviving are siblings Bill (Rusty) of Ottawa and John (Angela) of Wyevale; grandchildren Kerry (Greg) Mills, Andrew (Christiane) Rutledge, Chris (Jennifer) Rutledge and Erin and Thomas Ingram and great grandchild Adia. Pastor Robert MacGregor direct the funeral service July 1, 2003 at the Huron Park Baptist Church in Woodstock.

BROWN, R. Warden - Passed away peacefully on June 27, 2003 at Extendicare, Lakefield. Mr. Brown was born in Asphodel Township, October 7, 1904, the son of the late E. Maxwell and May (McConnell) Brown. Upon his retirement from his Otonabee dairy farm, he resided in Peterborough where he was employed with the Peterborough County Board of Education. Predeceased by his beloved wives Myrtle Brown (McLaren 1957) and Iva Brown (Sisson 1991), his brothers Maxwell and Gideon Brown, sister Margaret Peoples, niece Betty Glenn and nephew Lawrence Peoples. Brother-in-law to the late Mrs. Beatrice Gilbert (Sisson) of Port Hope. Uncle Warden will be fondly remembered by nephews Leslie Peoples and Orland Brown of Norwood, nieces Doreen Blodgett and Jean Bowes of Peterborough, Marie Turcotte of Temagami, Ontario. Beloved cousin of Mary A. Murphy and special friend to Edwin and Flora Martin, Norman and Beatrice Hubbeard all of Peterborough. 1904 - 2003 À Verdun, le 25 juin 2003, à l'âge de 99 ans, est décédée Estelle Mercier, épouse de feu Louis Proulx, mère de feu Jean-Louis (Monique Faille) et de feu Jacqueline (feu Henri Lemieux). Elle laisse dans le deuil sa fille Claire, ses six petits-enfants, ses huit arrière-petits-enfants, ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs, ses neveux et nièces. On se souviendra d'elle comme étant une personne qui aimait la vie, abordant cette dernière avec toute la vitalité qu'on lui connaissait, son sourire et ses histoires rocambolesques nous manqueront. La famille recevra parents et amis le samedi 5 juillet 2003 à 9 h en l'église Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, 4949 rue Verdun où les funérailles en présence des cendres auront lieu à 10 h, suivi de l'inhumation au Repos St-François d'Assise.
