GAREAU Remi Alfred of Prince Albert, SK and formerly of Bellevue, SK, passed away on June 9, 2003 in the early hours of the morning at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK at the age of 65 yrs. Remi farmed in Bellevue, SK all his life. He had to face many changes due to diabetes: eye sight, kidneys and the family farm. But throughout all of these hardships, Remi kept his positive attitude and his sense of humour. His faith pulled him and his family through. JOURNEAY, Gerald William, Went to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 9, 2003. Born in Weymouth, Nova Scotia on December 7, 1910. He was the son of the late Charles and Belle Journeay. Gerald worked for the N.S. Power Plant as an operator until he moved to Saint John, N.B. and worked for the St. John Power Commission. In 1968 he moved to St. Catharines and worked for the Genaire Plant until he retired in 1998. He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Gates) of 71 years; 5 sons - Jerry of California, Ralph (Della) of Welland, Reg and Gary of St. Catharines, David (Sheila) of Nova Scotia, two daughters - Donna Hanson of California, Barbara Journeay of St. Catharines; one daughter-in-law, Lois of Stoney Creek. Sadly missed by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Survived by his brother Richard of Nova Scotia and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two daughters, Vera (1934), Shirley (1937), one son Gordon (2000), and one son-in-law John Hanson (2002). With little education he worked as a lumber jack, miner, farmer and hotelier leading eventually to real estate in Sarnia. Tony founded A.N. Paiement Real Estate in 1955 and for fifteen years had one of the best real estate offices in the city. At fifty-seven years of age Tony retired and for twenty-five years wintered in Florida and lived on Thomas Drive. Tony was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. and the Knights of Columbus. GALLANT (Mooney), Joseph Stanley-80, passed away peacefully Monday, June 9, 2003, at home in Halifax, surrounded by loving family. Born in Sumêmerside, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Arthur Amos and Rose Delima Gallant. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He worked for Imperial Oil, was a lobster fisherman, worked on cable ships and in his later years worked as a school crossing guard. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 5, Sumêmerside, P.E.I., for over 50 years. He was an avid hockey player for over 25 years, and was known as the Galloping Ghost. He enjoyed camping, traveling and many a game of cribbage. He is survived by daughters, Paulette (Mrs. Bob Chillman), Oakville, Ont.; Gail (Mrs. Gerald Fitzpatrick), Halifax; stepchildren, Lillian (Mrs. James Kellar), Ottawa, Ont.; Frances Ann (Mrs. Leroy Doyle), Tignish, P.E.I.; Maurice and his wife Joan Cannon, Halifax; sister, Theresa (Mrs. John Henry), Amherst; brother, Don and his wife Ann, Sumêmerside, P.E.I.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Hilda; sister, Gertrude (Mrs. Jack Hopkins). Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 12, in J.A. TOUCHETTE (Jules) — Aux soins palliatifs du RSRY (Hôtel-Dieu), le 3 juin 2003 est décédé paisiblement entouré de ceux qu'il aimait, M. Jules Touchette à l'âge de 79 ans et 11 mois. Outre son épouse, Mme Jeannine Lefebvre, le défunt laisse deux filles; Carole de Saint-Hyacinthe; Lorraine (Alain Cournoyer) de Saint-Simon; ses petits-enfants; Alexandre et Marie-Lou. Il laisse aussi une soeur; Mme Agathe Touchette de Saint-Liboire; ses neveux et nièces. Les funrailles, sous la direction de la Résidence Funéraire Mongeau Ltée 1115, rue Girouard Ouest, Saint-Hyacinthe ont eu lieu le vendredi 6 juin 2003 à l'église Sacré-Coeur, suivies de la disposition des cendres au Columbarium Mongeau.

NEDELEC Suzanne Marie Nedelec (Perkins) Born October 16, 1963, Suzanne Marie Nedelec passed away suddenly on June 5, 2003. Suzanne is survived by her loving husband David Perkins; her mother Jenny Nedelec; father John Nedelec; brothers, Darrell, David and Thomas Nedelec and her close friend and mother-in-law Bettye Knight. A celebration of her life for the many who knew and deeply loved Suzanne will be held at the Glenhaven Memorial Chapel (1835 East Hastings) on Thursday, June 12 at 1:00 pm. ELSIE ROSE (OZAAWAGKOONZ) BRUYERE It is with great sadness that the family of Elsie Rose Bruyere announce her passing on Sunday, June 8, 2003 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Elsie was born Nov. 23, 1937 in Manitou Rapids First Nation. She worked for La Verendrye Hospital and Rainycrest for many years, as well as running a canteen at the native celebrations in the area. Elsie also taught native languages to area children. Elsie was a very family-oriented person who was always doing things for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and anyone she thought could use her help. Elsie was predeceased by her mother, Sarah Kingbird; her first husband, Tom Indian; grandson, Richard Brown; sisters, Grace Perkins, Lillian Jones, and Regina French; and grandparents, Sandy and Maggie Horton. She leaves behind her husband, Gerald; children, Shirley (Tim) Kampa of Ramsey, Mn., Larry (Ilene) Indian and Tom (Brenda) Indian, all of Onigaming First Nation, Linda Indian of Fort Frances, Ont., James (Debbie) Brown of Strathroy, Ont., Sheila (Jim) McMahon of Fort Frances, Ont., Steven Bruyere of Warroad, Mn., and Ernest Bruyere of Fort Frances, Ont.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers, Jerry Kingbird, Judy French, and Rudy, Freddy, Verna, Dolly, Alfred, Elsie, and Greg Kingbird, all of Red Lake, Mn.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation was held Tuesday, June 10, 2003 from 5 until 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Couchiching First Nation, with parish prayers being offered at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass was held Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Couchiching First Nation, with Deacon Elmer Mainville officiating. Cremation will take place at Riverside Crematorium in Thunder Bay, Ont. The pallbearers were her grandsons, Terry McMahon, Robert Indian, Thomas Indian, Byron Indian, Rob Rosten, and Adrian Indian. Honourary pallbearers were Ruth Bruyere, Annie Bruyere, Eleanor Bruyere, Melvina Morrisseau, Eliza Medicine, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Ilene Indian. If friends so desire, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Ward of La Verendrye Hospital, 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont.

GEORGE ALAN HANSEN With sadness we announce the sudden passing of George Alan Hansen, 69. George is survived by his loving family: his wife, Jean (nee Ripley); his children, Michael Hansen of Prince Albert, Sask. and Leanne (Ron) White of Regina, Sask.; and his five grandchildren, Chelsey and Joshua Hansen, and Ryley-Jean, Brandon, and Justin White. Also surviving are his brother, James Hansen of Toronto, Ont.; sister, Sandra Hansen of Toronto, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Florence Ripley of Minnedosa, Man. and Doreen Ripley of Winnipeg, Man.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Eleanor; brother-in-law, Craig Ripley; and sister-in-law, Ruth (Ripley) Meagher. George was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Fort Frances, Ont. He had a career in the grocery business that eventually took him away from that area, however, his great affection for the cottage country kept him and his family returning to the island. Since his retirement, he and Jean spent six months of each year at their summer home. Throughout the years, wherever George went, he gained great respect and made ever-lasting friendships. A celebration of his life was held Thursday, May 22, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. from the River Park Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Sandy Scott officiated. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service at later date on the island. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of River Park Memorial Chapel.
