Peacefully in her 92nd year, at the Ottawa General Hospital, on Tuesday, June 3, 2003. Predeceased by her husband William. Lois was born in Toronto in 1911. She graduated from Branksome Hall and was well known nationally for her artistic rug making and teaching of fine hand crafts in the Ottawa area. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Marilyn (Dave Sorrill), John (Cathy), Mark, and Carol (Gordon Kennedy); her grandchildren David (Catherine), Jennifer (Tom Kasouf) and Peter Smith, Deborah (Patrick Craig), Susan Gardiner, Jennifer and Bryan Mark (Yoko), Geordie and James Kennedy; her great-grandchildren Kaitlin and Natalie Smith, Justin, Sarah and Keanne Gardiner, Connor and Aidan Craig, Jakob Kasouf, Yuki, Nami and Skye Mark; her sister Helen Adams and John Walker of Toronto. Moving to Ottawa in the fall of 1993 with wife Barbara, Greg was employed with Nortel as a Software Engineer. Greg was a team worker, a considerate and gentle soul who will be greatly missed. MATTHEW CHARTRAND Accidentally on June 1, 2003, Matthew was taken from us at the age of 20. He was born in Winnipeg on December 24, 1982. Matthew was predeceased by his Papa, Harold Gilbert in 1995 and his Uncle Don Hornby in 1998. Matthew leaves to cherish his mom Linda Chartrand; his sister Tracy (Ryan) and his very special nephew Kale; his father Don Chartrand of Nanaimo, BC; gramma Lillian Gilbert of MacGregor; and great-gramma Grace McQuiston of Brandon; Papere and Nanny-Roland and Carmen Chartrand of Belleville, ON; Uncle Lyle and Aunt Wendy from Portage; many aunts and uncles, and many, many friends. Matthew has lived in Westdale since he was a year old. He went to Westgrove Elementary, Westdale Jr. High and Oak Park High School, graduating in "2000". Sports was Matt's passion-school sports, hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse and ball hockey, to name a few. At the age of five, he hit the hockey ice and hasn't stopped since. We have many trophies, medals, city champ hats, jackets and awards for all his accomplishments. When Matt was young, he looked upon the Hawks organization like it was the N.H.L. So he was very proud when he was chosen for the team. The last two years Matt played with both the Hawks and the Braves, you could see his passion every time he stepped on the ice. In 2001, he was chosen for the Lacrosse Team Manitoba U19, and they won the Provincial Championships. His many achievements can be attributed to the outstanding coaches and teachers he has had to guide him. Matt was a natural at whatever he tried, including wakeboarding and water-skiing. He looked forward to his weekends at numerous friend's cabins, where you were always guaranteed lots of laughs and too much fun. At the time of his death, Matt was employed by Ram Messenger, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Matt has had many jobs and whether he was pumping gas, building trusses or clearing snow, he always gave 110% and enjoyed what he did. As with work or play, he always gave his all. Matt had a zest for life, which was contagious to all around him. Matt has more friends than you'll ever know-young and old. He was a friend to all, and to know him was to love him. Matt and his sister Tracy were very close and she will miss him tremendously. Especially not being able to share the joys of Kale growing up and playing street hockey and going for slurpees with his Uncle Mattie. Matt contributed to the lives of everyone who knew him and we will be forever grateful for his life and will dearly miss him. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. His passing has left a giant hole in all our hearts and we'll miss him terribly. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all our friends, neighbours, hockey teams, ball teams-just everyone who has sent cards and flowers and food, and just being there to cater to our every need. It has been very comforting having everyone drop by and spend time with us. Well, Matthew, you were a handful but you were worth it. I only wish I could have kept you longer. I love you and am very proud of you...MOM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing. GALLANT, Edmond B. The death occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, of Edmond B. Gallant of the Miscouche Villa, aged 89 years. Loving son of the late Bernard and Emelienne (nee Arsenault) Gallant. Also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. As the last surviving member of his family, he was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. SCAFE ROLANDE – Des funérailles ont eu lieu le 30 mai 2003 pour Rolande Scafe, domiciliée à Kapuskasing, décédée le 28 mai à l'Hôpital Sensenbrenner à l'âge de 70 ans. Née le 28 février 1933, elle était ménagère et elle aimait d'ailleurs recevoir des amies et des membres de la famille à la maison. Elle aimait également jouer aux cartes et écouter de la musique. Elle fut précédée dans la mort par son époux Irving, de son frère Val Duquette et de sa soeur Gertrude Forget. Elle laisse dans le deuil quatre filles : Shirley (Thomas) Stanbury, Florence (Noël) Millette, Nancy Scafe et Elaine (Guy) Larouche, toutes de Kapuskasing, un fils : Gary (Lucia Hébert) Scafe de Kapuskasing, une soeur : Aurore Rivard de Kapuskasing, deux frères : Larry Duquette d'Ottawa et Jean-Guy Duquette de Wawa, ainsi que 10 petits-enfants : Tammy, Angela, Marilyn, Clayton, Amanda, Jennifer, Kurtis, Lanan, Katryna et Stefany. Besides her religious family, she is survived by an adopted sister, Sister Olive Arseneau, NDSC; two sisters-inlaw, Rita and Osithe LeBlanc; a brotherin-law Robert DesRosiers; several nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by three sisters: Lina, Roseanne, and Marie; three brothers, Clorice, Valerie, and Arice. Remains resting at maison-mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-SacréeCoeur, 125 King Street Moncton. After graduating from King's College (Dalhousie) with a B.A. in Arts, Doris worked for many years with the Y.W.C.A. of Canada in Halifax, Galt, Toronto and Kitchener. A loving and devoted wife and mother, Doris had a great love of nature and the out-of-doors, music, books, theatre and gardening. She was an enthusiastic volunteer in many church and community capacities. She liked nothing better than a vigorous discussion relating to current affairs or politics. Sharp of mind and keen of wit, she was a loyal and true friend. In the face of adversity and illness, she showed great strength of spirit. Janet and Chris wish to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Anne Fraser for her kind and compassionate support and care of Doris during her illness. Barbara, nurses Eileen and Roslyn and all those involved in Doris' care at May Court were wonderfully kind, thoughtful, caring and supportive. Peacefully in hospital on Thursday, May 29, 2003 age 92 years. Margaret was born in Larkhall, Scotland on July 16, 1910 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 years. Predeceased by her five brothers, William (Susan), Robert (Doris), Henry (Noella), David (Cynthia) and James (Jean). Much loved aunt of many nieces and nephews, especially Scott (Elizabeth), Kent (Danielle), Kim (Tim) and Bill Dyet (Beverley) of New York State. Margaret was a faithfull servant of God, who cared and gave to everyone. All her family and friends have special memories of times shared with her. The family would like to thank all the staff at Island Lodge who cared for Margaret during her time there. It was a true home to her. Also for the excellent care she received by the nursing staff on the fourth floor at the Montfort Hospital, the family extends its' gratitude. FENDELET Emma (nee Bedier), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2003 in Saskatoon. Emma was born on January 26, 1909 in Hafford. She attended the convent in St. Louis for her schooling. She married Steve Fendelet on October 14, 1941 and they lived in Albertown until they retired to Hafford in 1969 where she resided until the time of her passing. Mom's life was dedicated to family and church. She enjoyed the family gatherings at which there was always an abundance of good food prepared by her loving hands. Gardening was also a favorite past-time and she enjoyed the Tuesday night outing to bingo. She also looked forward and enjoyed the chips and gravy lunches with her sister, Cecile. Mom's character and strengths will be an inspiration to her family. Emma is survived by her loving children, Clarence (Bernice) of Shellbrook, Edward (Mavis) of Saskatoon, Therese (Tony) Humen of Saskatoon, Marcel (Susan) of Saskatoon; grandchildren, Hal, Curtis, Monique and Stephen, Calvin and Quentin, Mark, Stephen, Tyler, Justin, Trevor, Kathleen and Jacqueline and families; sister, Cecile (Emile) Fendelet; brothers, Joe (Clarice) Bedier, Edward (Eva) Bedier; sisters-in-law, Lea (Victor) Martin and Solange Bedier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
