GAUTHIER, Robert Albinus (Al) Al Gauthier passed away peacefully on March 16, 2003 after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Allan and Evelyn, sister Paula and brothers Rodney and Brian. Raymond E. LeBlanc Raymond Edgar LeBlanc, 82, of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital, Wednesday, March 19, 2003 after a brief illness. He taught school in Selkirk, Manitoba, served in the Armed Forces after which he was employed in the RCAF (AMC) until his retirement in 1972. Al was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Ottawa and a life time member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada where he served in many capacities. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Serrao, dear husband, brother, father and grandfather at the Montreal General Hospital on March 18, 2003 at the age of eighty. His courageous battle with cancer was born with grace, dignity and humour. At his side was his loving wife of 56 years Aggie Antoine Serrao and his 6 children Graciela (Bob), Louise, Gerald (Heather), Margaret (Martin), Marius and Tina (Pino). His 7 grandchildren Karla, Tanya, Brendan, Jackie, Sam, Noah and Isaac will treasure all the happy memories spent with him. His siblings Sonny, Eddie, Marie, Sheila, Janet, David, Dickie, Pam, Jean, Joan, Marina, Steve and Jenny mourn their loss. Gerry was a proud W.W.II Veteran. A Montrealer for 49 years, he was well known throughout his neighbourhood. He loved to walk his dog Cashew and offered a friendly word and smile to everyone. He retired from Air Canada in 1989 were he had worked for 25 years. We would like to thank all of those who generously gave their support and kindness during his illness. Sadly, and with overwhelming grief we announce the passing of dear Ben at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Tuesday afternoon, March 18th, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Doris, and family. Survived by his brother Wim (Netty), sisters Marian (Kees) of the Netherlands, Inge (Han) of Virginia, Anke (Cris) of New York, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law of Newfoundland and many nieces and nephews and friends in the Netherlands, USA, Australia and Canada. Predeceased by his parents Wim and Anna Vriezen of Amsterdam and twin brother John. Ben's career in the burgeoning computer industry included the airlines which awakened a lifelong love of travel and adventure. His later career as a specialist in defence software initiated a lively and intelligent relationship with the world of computerization which he continued as a beloved hobby in his retirement. He embraced many interests including sailing, reading and collecting books, the arts, history, politics and accumulated a prodigious knowledge of Winston Churchill and his era. Ben was a member of the Dutch-Canadian Society and the International Churchill Society. He was fascinated by the natural world and nurtured a keen enjoyment of the blessings of life. His quiet faith was a wellspring of joy and greatly enhanced his outlook on life. Ben's circle of friends and relations spanned the globe and remained very close to his heart throughout his life. His great humour, hospitality and conviviality will be sorely missed. GAREAU Georgette of Bellevue, SK, passed away March 17, 2003 at the Victoria Union Hospital, Prince Albert, SK. She was born to Georges and Josephine Nault in Edam, SK on July 21, 1928, the fifth child in a family of eight girls and six boys. She attended Teacher's College after high school. Her teaching brought her to Bellevue where she met and married Alfred Gareau. They made their home on the farm where they raised their four children. Her greatest love was for her husband and children, as well as her teaching. She had a tremendous sense of wit and humour. Her hobbies included curling, reading, playing cards and watching the birds that she would feed. She will be sadly missed by her family: son, Daniel (Paulette) and their children, Janelle, Dwayne and Daryl of Prince Albert, SK; three daughters, Evelyn (Gary) Grad and children, MacKenze and Alexandra of Regina, SK; Anita Gareau of Bellevue, SK; Diane (Gerry Krawchuk) Gareau, Regina, SK; two brothers, Marcel (Elaine) Nault and Paul Nault; four sisters, Emilie Fehr, Claire Nault, Annette Nault and Pauline (Fred) Muir. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred; her parents; four brothers, Aurele, Raymond, Eugene and Hubert Nault; three sisters, Lorette Chase, Jeanne Gaudet and Lillianne Edgelow. An avid walker, she enjoyed knitting. She always had a very neat and tidy home. She was devoted to her loving family, especially her grandchildren. Aline inspired others with her courageous journey with cancer. The light of her life and love will be cherished by all who knew her. Beloved wife of Ron Vitali, predeceased 2002. Dr. Richard Laplante August 8, 1941-March 16, 2003 "You never know when you are making a memory." With deepest sorrow the family of Richard Laplante announce his death in Scottsdale, AZ on March 16 and share plans for celebrating his life of dedicated service. Richard's life touched so many but none more than his beloved wife of thirty-two years, Marjorie who left the United States to join Richard in their mutual commitment to education. Their son, Riall, is supported by his loving wife, Kary, in mourning and celebrating Richard's life and continuing influence. Richard is also survived by three sisters, Alice Ranks, Cecile (Larry) Martindale, and Rita (Vern) Frost; and three brothers, Roger, Al (Pat), and Joe (Jeanninne) Laplante. Richard is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and colleagues. Those who preceded him in entering God's kingdom include his parents, Emile and Therese Laplante; his sister, Annette Lynch; brothers-in-law, Tom Lynch and Del Ranks; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Laplante. Richard's love and commitment to family and extended family have created memories that will endure through generations. Richard dedicated his life to bringing others to a fuller life through education. Most recently he was the Director of the Doctor of Ministry program at St. Stephen's College where he mentored many faculty and students on the journey of ministry, serving others. His leadership will continue to model the conviction and practice that gifts placed in the service of others contribute to the memories and life of the larger community. Beloved wife of the late Robert Owen Hanrahan, Gaby will be dearly missed by her sister, Andree Cantin, brother, Jean Labreque (Gilberte Drolet), sisters-in-law, Ruth Hatch, Margaret Hanrahan and many neices, nephews and grandnieces with whom she shared so much laughter and joy over a great number of years. A private cremation was held in Montreal. Burial will take place in Quebec City at a later date.

PELCHAT, Joseph Gerard W. (Gerry) Passed away on March 16, 2003 at the age of 79 at the Brooks Health Centre, Brooks, Alberta. He is survived by wife Ingrid of Brooks, five sons, five stepchildren, 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Gerry was born in Pontiex, SK on June 16, 1923, one of 11 children born to Louis and Aurore Pelchat. He was active in the Brooks community and before his retirement in 1983 he was Superintendent and Head of the Wildlife Research Centre in Brooks. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Muriel, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22nd from Brooks United Church. Reverend George Edmonds officiating.
