Born in Peabody Mass., on November, 18,1926. He was the son of the late Truman and Stella Hope. Rocky was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces during World War Two and retired from Canada Post with 20 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his wife, Elsie (Hopkins); two sons, Phillip Duffy (Bonnie) of Ontario, Larry Duffy (Ruth) of Salisbury; two daughters, Susan LeBlanc (Bill) of Moncton, Kathy Richard (Robert) of Riverview; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Ronald, of California; one sister, Thelma Barton of Port Elgin; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Royce and a son, Douglas. With respect to Spurgeon's wishes no visitation will be held at the funeral home. LONG, LILY E. - The death of Miss Lily E. Long formerly of the Admiral Beatty Complex, Saint John, occurred on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Edwin W. and Elsie M. (Meadus) Long. Miss Long was the Provincial Secretary for the Girl Guides of Canada, New Brunswick Council, for many years before her retirement. She was very active in the Girl Guide movement and was a former member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club. She is survived by three sisters, Marjorie E. Long of Saint John, Jean I. Krans of Amelia Island, Florida, USA and Nancy Pilcher (Norman) of Mississauga, ON, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John (Jack) and Fred Long. Marion Adella Tingley 1925-2002 Marion Adella Tingley, 77, of Forest Dale Home, Riverside-Albert, passed away at her residence on December 31, 2002. She was born on November 16, 1925 the daughter of the late Darcey and Harriett (Gough) Tingley. Marion loved to play bingo and bowling, she also enjoyed taking part in many other activites at Forest Dale Home. She was a beloved sister and will be sadly missed by her four brothers, Arthur Tingley of Riverside-Albert, Melvin Tingley (Marion) of Edgett's Landing, Charles Tingley (Stella) of Riverside-Albert, and George Tingley (Elmonde) of Hillsborough. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Marion was predeceased by a sister, Alice and two brothers, James and Willard. The remains will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation Thursday evening from 7-9pm. Garnet W. McMackin Garnet Wayne McMackin, 51, of Morgan Drive, Salisbury passed away Tuesday December 31, 2002 at the Moncton Hospital following a sudden illness. Born at Fawcett Hill he was a son of the late Abe and Ruby (Killam) McMackin. Garnet was a twenty five year employee of the now Jordan Life Care Center were he was employed as a custodian. He enjoyed stock car racing and helped as a pit crew member at River Glade Speedway and liked camping with family and friends and bowling in Petitcodiac. He will be sadly missed by his wife Sheila (Blackett), children Shannon McMackin (Krystyna Brown), Perry McMackin, Timothy and Ashley Jack and grandchildren Alex Brown and Jakob (Boo) McMackin all of Salisbury. PITT, W. RUSSELL - The death of William Russell Pitt, of Ridgewood Veterans Wing, husband of the late Florence E. (Long) Pitt, occurred on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at his residence. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Douglas B. and Laura (Capen) Pitt. Mr. Pitt was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas in England, Holland and France, with the Royal Scottish Regiment and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He worked for Dominion Store's for over 35 years, retiring as Produce Manager. Russell enjoyed camping, playing cards and darts and was an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by three sons, William Brian Pitt (Susan), Russell David Pitt (Heather), both of Saint John and Richard Kevin Pitt (Cheryl) of Winnipeg, one daughter, Suzanne Irene Ferguson of Saint John, six grandchildren, Lori Lee, Jennifer Susan, William Jacob, Kimberly Suzanne, Mark Timothy Donald and Nickolas Russell, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson, Ryan Matthew Ferguson and one brother, Ronald Pitt. KINGSTON, RONALD A. The passing of Ronald Abraham Kingston occurred at the Veteran's Health Unit, Fredericton, on Saturday, December 28, 2002. He was 78. Born in Kingsclear, NB, he was a son of the late Leslie George Kingston and Margaret Matilda (Goodine) Kingston. Ronald worked at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in the Janitorial Department. A veteran of WWII, he served with the Carleton York Regiment and later transferred to the West Nova Regiment. He served in Italy. He was a strong supporter of the SPCA. Ronald is survived by one brother, Doug Kingston of Quispamsis, NB, and by two cousins, Audrey Goodine and Henry Goodine both of Kingsclear as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie of St. George, NB. MEADE, LAURA, E. - Peacefully, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, December 30th, 2002, Laura Emmaletta (Nichols) Meade, of Quispamsis. Born in West Saint John she was the youngest child of the late Thomas and Amanda (Peckham) Nichols. Laura was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Earle, in June of this year. She owned and operated Meade's Store in Quispamsis for many years, retiring in 1982. She and Earle were founding members of Quispamsis United Church, a former Sunday School Teacher, honorary Den Mother of Quispamsis United Church Cub Pack as well as various other church affairs. Laura also enjoyed 30 years at their "camp" enjoying the beautiful Saint John River at Gagetown. She was named Citizen of the Year of Quispamsis in 1982. Laura was a very quiet person who had a wonderful sense of humour. Her favorite hours were spent knitting for her grandchildren and looking after her two cats. She will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Laura is survived by her son Thomas (Barb) of Long Reach and granddaughters Betsy (Halifax) and Jill of UNB Fredericton, Bob (Anita) and granddaughter Shannen of Upper Golden Grove, one daughter Jane (Bob) St. Thomas and grandson Jason of Daws Hill, England. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Laura was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by her siblings, Pearl Trecartin, Marion (Pic) Redmond, Robert Nichols and Waldo (Nic) Nichols. FURZE, LLOYD WILLIAM - The death of Lloyd William Furze, husband of Mary Ellen (McGowan) Furze, occurred on December 31, 2002, at his residence. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Lyman and Pearl (Mowery) Furze. He served overseas during WW II with the Carleton York North Shore Regiment. He retired as Senior Constable with the Saint John Police Department after 34 years of service. During his career he fondly remembered chauffeuring Lt. Governor Roland Mitchener during a state visit. He was a member of the Saint John Police Protective Association and was a member of the Carleton York Club. Besides his wife he is survived by his brothers-in-law; Donald and his wife Mary McGowan, Murray and his wife Claire McGowan, Dr. George and his wife Peggy McGowan, his sisters-in-law Theresa and her husband Duncan Keenan, Barbara and her husband Bill Morrow, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James and his sisters Irma Petty and Katherine Peppler. He was a member of Steeves Memorial United Church, former Honorary Church Elder, former Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and former member of Country Meadows Golf Club. LA FAMILLE LAROCQUE a le regret de vous faire part du décès de MONSIEUR GEORGES LAROCQUE de Manitouwadge, autrefois de Ste-Cécile-de-Masham, décédé le vendredi 27 décembre 2002, à l'âge de 62 ans. Il était l'époux bien-aimée de Vivianne Cayen; le fils de feu Aldoria Larocque et de feu Marie Gervais. Outre son épouse, il laisse ses 4 enfants: Claire, Valérie, toutes deux de Sudbury, Claude (Lori Séguin) et Sylvie, tous de Manitouwadge; ses 8 petits-enfants adorés: Josée, Patrick, Joël, Michel, Vicky, Isabelle, Nicholas et Justin. Il était le cher frère de Ghislaine (feu Rolland H. Gauvreau), Claudette (Gustave Biron), Jacques (Lise Vaillant), Roger (Julienne Bertrand) et Suzanne (feu Léopold Péris), tous de Hull. Il fut prédécédé par 3 frères: Emile, Gilbert (Monique Brazeau) de Gatineau et Jean-Claude (Diane Tremblay et son conjoint Denis Leblanc) de Masham, ainsi que par 1 soeur, Madeleine (Guy Gauvreau) de Hull. Il laisse également plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux et nièces, ainsi que ses nombreux amis. Il n'y aura pas de visites au salon, cependant la famille invite parents et amis à se joindre à elle le vendredi 3 janvier 2003 à 11h, en l'église Ste-Cécile-de-Masham pour une messe en présence des cendres. La famille recevra les condoléances au sous-sol de l'église après la cérémonie.
