Clifford Joseph Hill Clifford Joseph Hill, 70, of Warner Lake, Ont., passed away Friday, July 19, 2002 at McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont. with his family by his side. Clifford will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Deloris; daughter, Vicki and husband, Norman Peterson, of Warner Lake, Ont.; son, Terry and wife, Debbie, of Pickle Lake, Ont.; grandchildren, Lisa and husband, Tylor Marusyk, Clifford Hill Jr., Christopher Hill, and Cassandra Hill; sister, Frances McPherson of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Lizzie Hill; sister, Margaret Baldwin; and brothers, Percy, Fred, Charles (Buddy), and Ronald. Born Dec. 22, 1931 in Fort Frances, Ont., Cliff began working at a young age to help out at home. He joined the O & M paper mill as First Mate on the “Hallett,” then worked out in the bush as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator, eventually ending up at the Proboard plant in Atikokan, Ont. He was forced to retire after a vehicle accident left him unable to work. Clifford was a man who always kept busy; he loved to tinker with electronics, go fishing and hunting, and could be found out at garage sales on weekends. But his greatest love was his family. He was a man with a great sense of humour and was always looking for ways to help others. A memorial service to commemorate his life will be held Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan, with Fr. Florentino Ferrer officiating. Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will take place in the Little Falls Cemetery in Atikokan at a later date. Honourary pallbearers will be Ray Calder, David Armit, Don Armit, Jim Gladu, Sterling Douglas, Pat Foran, John George, and Herb George. Arthur Daniel McMahon Arthur Daniel McMahon, of 31 Drewry Dr., Kenora, Ont., passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora. Art was born Sept. 19, 1921 at Stratton, Ont., the son of Terry and Angeline McMahon. He attended public and separate school in Stratton and then high school in Rainy River, Ont. Art married Hilda, daughter of John and Mary Lengyel of Stratton, on June 25, 1952. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Hilda; four sons, Ronald, Murray (Susan), Tim (Cathy), and Michael; and three daughters, Sheryl (Don) Olson, Linda (Jack) Neniska, and Trish (Roger) Horton, all of Kenora, Ont. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Austin, Tammy, Lisa (Laird), Kristen (Adam), Carmen (Dan), Samantha (Chris), Stefanie, Kyle, Nicole, Mitchell, Tyler, Matthew, and Amy; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sydney Rose. He also is survived by numerous cousin, nieces, and nephews. Art was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Bill, Bud (Ella), Don (Doris), and Richard; and five sisters, Gertie (Sisco), Evelyn (Oster), Joyce, Margurite (Fletcher), and Jean (Marchuk). Art loved sports—baseball, hockey, and football—and was an ardent fisherman and hunter. He spent most of his working days with J. A. Mathieu in the Fort Frances and Sapawe area, and with Mando and Boise in the Camp Robinson and Kenora areas as Scaler-Camp Foreman. He spent nine years (1956-1965) with Kenora Hydro as clearing supervisor and with the Kenora Board of Education as custodian. Art retired in 1984. His favorite pasttime was playing crib with his Legion friends. Cremation has taken place, with interment at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery. It will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations would be appreciated to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital CT scanner fund. Ryan Vlaad is believed to have been an innocent bystandard, according to news reports in the London Free Press. As some 100 people milled about in the parking lot of a London pub, an unamed attacker, described as a large, stocky man, struck Vlaad on the head, knocking him to the ground where he hit his head on the pavement. He was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. London police are continuing to search for the assailant. The aspiring commercial pilot was laid to rest in Espanola on July 26. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vlaad leaves two brothers, Billy (Jennifer) and Cary, both of Toronto.

ST. JOHN, Oliver "Keith" In loving memory of Oliver "Keith" St. John, 79 years of Sudbury who passed away peacefully Sunday evening July 21st, 2002 at the SRH - St. Joseph’s Health Center. He was born in Dundalk, Ontario. Keith came to Sudbury in 1957 from North Bay. Initially he worked for Canada Bread for many years. A well liked and respected insurance underwriter with Prudential Life for many years. Keith served overseas during WWII with the Canadian Army. He was a member of the War Pensioners of Canada. He was an avid bowler having won many competitions. He had been an active member of the Orange Lodge having served in various executive positions. Keith had attended the Salvation Army. Citadel and he was a man of faith who daily lived the lessons taught by Jesus. He will be remembered as a good listener and mentor to all who knew him. Keith had a great sense of humour and he was always quick to help others whether as a volunteer driver or visitor to cheer people up. He had a great appreciation of God’s creation especially birds. Keith has gone to be with His Lord & Saviour & reunited with family and friends in heaven and he can echo St. Paul’s words "I have fought the good fight, I finished my course. I kept the faith". Beloved husband of Doris (Grenier) St. John 1977 and Lillian (McAuley) St. John 2002 both predeceased.
