December 19, 1925 - May 26, 2002 Mom (Aunt Sylvia) passed away peacefully at the Wellington House Nursing Home, Prescott, after a personal decision on Monday past to end her long and difficult illness, by depleating further medication. She will be greatly missed by Keith, her husband of 57 years and her children Gary, David (Nancy), Thom (Bonita), Wayne (Cara), Debbie (Doug Reynolds), Charles (Chuck) McRae (Tracy) and Nancy (Mike Murray). Her loss will also be deeply felt by grandchildren and grand nieces and nephews, Heather, David, Sarah, Mark, Kristopher, Jennifer, Lindsey, Andrew, Brent, Ian, Michael, Jonathan, Jessica, Austyn, Kolbee, Jennifer, Tara and great-grandchildren Emma and Chance. Sylvia is predeceased by her parents Lloyd Earl and the former Ethel Brown, a brother Edward Earl and a sister Joyce McRae. Also survived by a brother Hubert Earl and many other loving relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Wellington House for their kindness and caring. Joyce passed away at home the way she had lived her life; on her own terms with dignity, courage and grace. 1940 - 2002 Marcel Jacques St. Denis, beloved husband of Florida of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the age of 62 years. Besides his loving wife of 41 years, Florida, Marcel is survived by his children, Diane and Jean Laberge of Ottawa, Luc and Aline St. Denis of Kelowna, and Denise and Neil Sonnenberg of Calgary; his surrogate children, Jean Lavoie and Giselle of Ottawa, Carole-Pelletier Allard and Jacques of Chelsea, Quebec, Kevin Spears of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Nathalie, Marc, Sophie, Marie-Josee, Stephanie and Eric; five surrogate grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia, Nicole and Sylvie; one brother, Guy and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marcel was predeceased by his parents, Lucien and Jeanette and by one brother, Claude. Marcel was born on March 9, 1940 in Rockland, Ontario. He married Florida Deschamps on May 13, 1961. Marcel was an Electronic Technician at Capital Foods. He had the most unique pleasure as a professional school bus driver. PePe transported his own legacy to safety for seven amazing years. He retired to Calgary in 1997 and always dressed up as Santa Claus during the holidays. Marcel loved and adored his kids and grandchildren. Antoine Reginald 'Reg' Dupuis It is with great sadness that the family of Reginald Dupuis announce his passing on Friday, May 24, 2002 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Reginald was born July 8, 1928 in Alberton Township, Ont. to the late Julius and Lucie Dupuis. On Sept. 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elsie Cuthbertson. Reg worked as a papermaker in Fort Frances for 45 years, retiring in 1994. In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing, but throughout his life he truly enjoyed all aspects of the game of hockey. He was predeceased by his parents; foster parents, Edward and Nancy Calder; grandson, Scott Schulz; four brothers, William, Stanley, Edward (Margaret), and Victor (Lillian) Calder; and two sisters, Celia (Charles) Armit and Doris (Andrew) Hill. Reg is survived by his wife, Elsie Dupuis of Fort Frances, Ont.; two daughters, Joyce and husband, Robert Schulz, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Jacqueline and husband, Darrin Brandli, of Fort Frances, Ont.-Warroad, Mn.; one son, John Dupuis of Fort Frances, Ont.; and three grandchildren, Kevin and Derek Schulz, and Ashley Dupuis. He also is survived by sisters, Noella (Raymond Sr.) Anderson of Prince George, B.C., and Violet (Archie) Ross of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother, Ernest (Eileen) Calder Sr.; sisters-in-law, Lillian (Stanley Sr.) Calder and Jean (Fraser Cuthbertson) Hoffman of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Garth Clifford officiating. Internment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date. Luncheon to be held at the Ukrainian Hall immediately after the service. CARSCADDEN, Frances M. (nee Moore) In loving memory of Frances M. (nee Moore) Carscadden, 77 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Friday morning, May 24th, 2002 at her residence. Frances was born in Owen Sound and she married Bruce Carscadden. Frances was a charter member of the Elizabeth Barrett Browning Junior Chapter of the IODE and in 1963 was asked to reorganize the Alexander Ramsey Chapter of the IODE becoming its first Regent. Frances has always been a valued member. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 20 years and a member of the Board of Directors for the Friends of Killarney Park. Her summers were spent with her husband Bruce at their cottage on Carlyle Lake for the past 32 years and loved their winter vacations in Mexico. Beloved wife of Bruce Carscadden of Sudbury. Loving mother of Robert William (wife Belinda) of Sudbury and Thomas Andrew (wife Pauline) of Val Caron. Cherished grandmother of Shawn, Brent, Michelle, Charles and Samuel. Dolorès était très dévouée à la paroisse St. Joseph de Chelmsford. Elle s’occupait du comité des finances et des enfants de choeur. Elle était ainsi une grande passionnée du bingo. Dolorès sera tristement manqué par sa famille et ses amis. La famille recevera parents et amis à la COOPERATIVE FUNERAIRE, 4691 R.R. 15, Chelmsford, lundi de 14h00 à 17h00 et de 19h00 à 21h30. AITKEN, Jean (nee Rose) Passed on to the other side on Monday, May 20, 2002 at Marycrest Home, Peterborough. She was in her 89th year. Born and raised in Peterborough, and a descendAitkenant of the original Irish settlers in Peter Scott’s logging mill settlement, Jeanie Rose married Bill Aitken in 1939 and the couple moved to Toronto and latterly to Port Credit in Mississauga. She worked as a store clerk, pharmacist’s aid and Registered Nursing Aid. In 1977 she moved back to Peterborough when her husband retired. For many years she cared for the wife of Colonel J. Dewart, a former mayor of Peterborough. She was a life-long member of the Eastern Star, was active in the Home and School movement and worked tirelessly for many Tory candidates in provincial and federal elections. She was a character with enormous energy and will power who pushed her husband, Bill, to obtain his B.A. in history from Trent University when he was 74. She was predeceased by her parents, Wes and Annie Rose, her sister Aileen Turner and her brother Walter Rose, and especially by her beloved husband Bill Aitken. She is survived by her son Dr. Brian Aitken of Sudbury, her daughter Wendy of Oakville, her grandchildren Sheila Aitken of Toronto and Adam Scott of Oakville and by her niece Betty McHale of Georgetown. DENISON, Robert (Bob) Wylie In loving memory of Robert (Bob) Wylie Denison passed away peacefully in Sudbury on May 22, 2002. Born in Ottawa on February 15, 1915, Bob was the son of William and Mina Denison and the brother of Ainslie and Teddy (all predeceased). Bob was educated at Ashbury College in Ottawa, and in 1939 he enlisted as a soldier with the Canadian Armed Forces, joining the war effort in Europe. In 1944 Bob became a member of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion; he was a member of the Battalion’s association at the time of his death. In the 1950’s Bob settled in Sudbury as the life companion of Helen MacLaren (predeceased), whom he married in 1973. In Sudbury, he worked at a wide variety of jobs, including fundraising for March of Dimes and driving a school bus. Upon retirement, Bob volunteered his services with the Sudbury Memorial Hospital and Telecare. As a devoted Anglican and a member of Christ Church in Lively, Bob served for many years as Rector’s Warden, taught confirmation classes, lent a hand with repairs, and took part in Christmas pageants. In the 1980’s, Bishop Leslie of Algoma honoured Bob by making him a Lay Reader. Intrigued by the history of religion, Bob took a number of theology courses at Thorneloe University, where he also assisted with set construction for the students’ acting company. A peaceful man with a sparkling blue eyes and a happy heart, Bob liked nothing better than tending to the garden and trees at his home in Naughton, taking long walks with his dog, skiing in the woods, and canoeing on Simon Lake. Bob is warmly remembered by his surviving family; son Bill Denison and his wife Marilyn (children Stephan and Candace); daughter Patricia Sutherland and her husband Ron Martin (children Trent and Tracy); step-daughters Suzanne Cotton and Judith Holmes; and step-grandson Dr. Michael Morgan Holmes. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Funeral Service in the R.J. Thelma Jeanette Sly Of RR#3 Elgin, Ontario, passed away on April 29, 2002, at the Carveth Care Nursing Center in Gananoque. Thelma was born in Battersea, Ontario, the daughter of the late Gus and Mabel Jardine, and lived in the Kingston area all her life. She was a housewife and was married for 66 years to Stanley Sly. Thelma attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Elgin. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and volunteering. Thelma is survived by her husband Stanley Sly, sons Hayden Sly, Henry and Linda Sly, Dale and Barb Sly, David and Susan Sly, Rodney and Susan Sly, Ron Sly (Cheryl), daughter Elaine and Marvin Clay, and sister Adelaide Carr. She was predeceased by her son Stanley Sly Jr., granddaughter Christine Sly, and brothers Cyril, Dave, Bill, Harold and Victor Jardine. The funeral was held on May 2, 2002. Rev. Jim Clark officiated. Pallbearers were grandsons Stephen Sly, Scott Sly, Darren Sly, Cory Sly, Aaron Courneya, and Eric Larson.
