On Wednesday, May 22, 2002 in his 93rd year. Son of the late John and Eliza Campbell of Cambuslang, Scotland. Beloved husband of Grace Doreen Downs formerly of Welland, ON for sixty-three years. Loving father of John Fraser (Annie) of Dunrobin, ON, Margaret Elizabeth Rahn (Joel), Ste. Foy, QUE., and Catherine Alexandra Cummings (Ken) of Manotick, ON. Dear brother of Betty F. McKechnie, the late Ella H. Campbell and the late Jean M. Auerbach. Cherished grandfather of Angela McNaughton (Jason), Brian and Caroline Rahn, Donald Cummings (Simone Dumas) and Sarah Cummings. A pioneer in Rehabilitation, he did much nationally and internationally, to improve services for the disabled and for older workers. From 1939 to 1941 he organized and administered the Rehabilitation Department of the Workmen's Compensation Board and converted the former Air Force Camp at Malton into the largest, non-military Rehabilitation Centre in North America. He was later appointed Chairman of the Old Age Pension Commission and represented Ontario on the National Advisory Council on Rehabilitation. In 1951 he came to Ottawa as National Co-ordinator Civilian Rehabilitation and later represented Canada at rehabilitation international conferences. He was Chairman of the World Commission on Vocational Rehabilitation and chaired the National Research Council Committee that drew up "Building Standards for the Handicapped". He contributed to a United Nations Rehabilitation course for developing countries including Denmark and Iran. He retired in 1971 as Associate Director, Manpower Utilization and subsequently became Rehabilitation Director of the Workmen's Compensation Board and did studies for the Department of Labour on legislation affecting injured federal employees as well as serving on international committees. At 83 years of age, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus Tuesday, May 21, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Florence, three sons, Larry (Susan), Howard (Sandi) and David (Wendy). Grandfather of nine, Great-Grandfather to six. Predeceased by sister Rose and brothers Paul and Philip, he is survived by brother Bob and many nieces and nephews. Len was a World War II veteran, a member of the Rosecrucian Hierarchy, a member of the Legion and a long time volunteer for the Boy Scouts of Canada. A born raconteur, he was fond of regaling friends and family with stories from his past - stories that will now be missed. Although he enjoyed a round of golf when younger, and often participated in round and square dancing as he grew older, his favourite pastime in later years was his computer sending emails to his many contacts. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services for longtime Hearst area resident and retired contractor Robert Charbonneau, 78, of Kitchener St. were held May 18, 2002. He died May 15 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a brief illness. Born April 10, 1924 in St-Arsène, Quebec, nea Mon he came to the Hearst area in 1934. Owner of Charbonneau Construction, he retired in 1979. An active cross-country skier for 15 years, he was a member of the Hearst Cross-Country Ski Club board and enjoyed listening to jazz music and reading. He leaves: his wife Jeannine (née Hallé) Charbonneau of Hearst; sons Simon of Hearst, Jean (Carole) of Boucherville, Que., and Daniel Charbonneau of Fort McMurray, Alberta; and a daughter Julie Charbonneau of Fort McMurray. Also surviving are: his sisters Pierrette (Roland) Racine of Montreal, Gisèle (Lionel) Fortier of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., and Huguette (Roger) Paquin of Kapuskasing; brothers Jacques (Huguette) of Montreal and Claude Charbonneau of Hull, Que.; and granddaughters Andréanne, Gabrièle and Janine as well as grandsons Julien and Daniel Jr. Rev. Beatrice Abbott, 93, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at La Verendrye General Hospital. She was born Sept. 24, 1908 in Stevington, England to the late John and Sarah Curtis. Beatrice came to Canada on March 4, 1920 and landed in Nova Scotia. She later moved to Emo and then to Fort Frances. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Knox United Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and bowling, and was a member of the Fort Frances Bowling League. She also was a Queen at T.O.P.S. Beatrice was united in marriage to Stanley Herbert Abbott, who predeceased her Nov. 2, 1984. She also was predeceased by her son, Ronald; four brothers, and a granddaughter; Shelley. She is survived by her children, James (Beatrice) of Palmerston, Ont., Darlene (Jimmie) Doris of St. Helens, Ore., William (Carolyn) of Peterborough, Ont., Douglas (Mary Ann) of Salmon Arm, B.C., and Carolyn Abbott of Fort Frances, Ont. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Nell Abbott, of North Vancouver, B.C.; 12 grandchildren, Rhonda, Curtis, Corey, Cathy, Jamie, Bonnie, Randy, Lorie, Cheryl, Karen, Doug, and Debbie; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnathan (Jean) Curtis of Emo; two sisters, Dorothy Larson of Seattle, Wash., and Connie (Milton) Stroble of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lucienne Migneault of 45 Ontario Street, Kapuskasing, died at Sensenbrenner Hospital on May 19, 2002. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Migneault was born on November 1, 1917 in South Porcupine. She was a housewife and operated for years a chip stand on Clear Lake Road. She liked to paint, read, pay cards, crib, watch sports, knitting and sewing. She was predeceased by her husband Laurent Migneault, one son Robert, two grandsons Kevin, Raymond, two sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by: four sons Donald (Nicole) of Timmins, Marcel (Hélène) of Kap, Roger (Diane) of Kap, Denis (Colette) of Kap, three daughters Mariette (Sylvere) Charpentier of Moonbeam, Vina (Marcel) Oulette of Kap, Pauline (Gilbert) Doucet of Kap, 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Rev. Father Robert Tremblay will direct the funeral services at Notre Dame des Victoires today at 2 p.m. Mrs. Migneault will be interred at the Kap cemetery.
