MCCLELLAND, ROSE MARIE TERESA (FLYNN) Called home by her Savior on May 14th, 2002, Rose McClelland, age 79 years, passed lovingly into His arms. Rose was the devoted mother of Ellen (Sunny) and her husband Cam Jackson of Innisfil, and James and his wife Carol McClelland of Angus. She was the loving grandmother of Jessica McClelland, Ben Shannon, Ethikia DeBoer and Athena McClelland. Rose was the only surviving daughter of Patrick and Bidget (Rooney) Flynn of P.E.I. Comforted at his bedside by his cherished wife and devoted companion Dr. Bea E. Wickett and other family members. Predeceased by his dear first wife Betty Clendinnen and his sister Jean Brady. Beloved father of Eleanor Friis, St. John's, Newfoundland; Thomas Nesbitt (Dr. Susan Burgess), Vancouver; David Nesbitt (Deborah), Vancouver and Robert Nesbitt (Deanna Monaghan), Ottawa. Fondly remembered by stepchildren John Wickett (Stephanie), Village Green, P.E.I., and Marni Laird (David), Calgary. Will be much missed by his grandchildren Magnus Friis, Lorien and Ariel Nesbitt, Torie Nesbitt, Alexa, Liam and Julia Nesbitt, and by step-grandchildren John, Robert and Michael Wickett, Michael Smith and Holly Pashniak. Recollected with special affection by his nephew and nieces Sean Brady (Premsiri), Bangkok, Thailand; Kathleen Brady, London, England; Jennifer Brady, Memphis, Tenn. Trisha Wilson (Brian), Markham, Ont; Peggy Nankivell (Neville), Ottawa. Highly thought of by other relatives, many friends and former colleagues. Dr. Nesbitt was born in 1913 in Ottawa where he attended Mutchmor Public School and Glebe Collegiate. He was a graduate of Queen's University, Kingston, Ont., (BA), University of Toronto (MA, PhD) and the University of Leiden, The Netherlands (D.Sc.). In recognition of what was a rare event in Leiden, the Queen of The Netherlands sent her horse-drawn carriage to bring him to his 1951 D.Sc. thesis examination. In 1978, he received an honorary D.Sc. from Carleton University, where he served in various teaching, research and administrative capacities for half a century. It was an institution he loved and contributed to immensely and at which he was privileged to teach students who now reside throughout the world. He was renowned for his concern for his students, his sense of fairness and his sense of humour. His long and distinguished science career began when he joined the Department of Agriculture in Ottawa in 1939 as a researcher. He started teaching biology on a part-time basis at Carleton in 1946 and became the full-time assistant professor of its fledgling biology department in 1948. He went on to head the department and build it into one of the finest in the country. He later was Director of Science Studies and the first Dean of the university's Faculty of Science, a post he held 1963 to 1975. He served as Clerk of the university Senate 1975 to 1981 and was named Professor Emeritus of Biology in 1978. He was perhaps best known however as Carleton's Marshal of Convocation, a role he performed and relished from 1948 to 1997. During that time he carried the mace at the head of every convocation procession except for one and was the driving force in establishing its ceremonial traditions. In recognition, he was awarded the status of Emeritus Marshal. One of Carleton's longest serving faculty members, he was given the university's Founder's Award in 1998. This is its highest non-academic honour. He was honoured by Carleton again earlier this year when its newly renovated and expanded biology facilities were renamed as the H.H.J. Nesbitt Biology Building. A widely respected researcher in the field of entomology, Dr. Nesbitt was author of approximately 80 research papers on mites and a member of the international editorial board of Acarologia (a scientific journal on ticks and mites). He was a former president of the Zoological Society of Canada, a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, the Royal Entomological Society, London; the Zoological Society of London, the Entomological Society of Canada and the Entomological Society of America. He also was a former chairman of the Board of Governors of Algonquin College, Ottawa. The family would like to thank Dr. Anne-Marie Hamilton and the caring staff at Saint-Vincent Hospital. Skyler Remy Seth Drolet, of Kapuskasing Death: May 9th, 2002 Skyler Remy Seth Drolet of 8-B Riverside Drive, Kapuskasing, died at home on May 9, 2002. He was 14 days old. Skyler was born in Sudbury on April 25, 2002. Skyler Remy Seth Drolet is survived by his mother Jennifer Drolet, grandfather Maurice Drolet, grandmother Raili Anderson, aunt Jasmine and uncle Jason Drolet all of Kapuskasing. The Medicine Man blessing of the child directed the funeral services at the Guenette Chapel. Cremation took place at Hillcrest Crematorium. Funeral director was Guenette Funeral Home. BARDEGGIA, Aldo In loving memory of Aldo Bardeggia, 96 years. of Sudbury, who passed away Saturday morning, May 11th, 2002 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph’s Health Centre. He was born in Urbino, Provoli Marche, Italy and married Margherita (Vampa) in Sudbury 1931 after his 1st wife Nazzarena (Galanti) died in 1930. Aldo emigrated to Canada in 1927 settling in Sudbury in 1929. He retired from INCO in 1970 with 40 years service, having achieved the position of Blacksmith leader. Always an innovator Aldo was awarded both in 1960 & 1961 the maximum permitted under the suggestion plan program at INCO. He was most proud of this achievement. A leader in the trade union movement he was instrumental in the organization of Mine Mill Local #598. He was a faithful parishioner of St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. A well liked and respected member of the local Italian Community he was a founder of the Copper Cliff Italian Club, a life member of the Caruso Club and the oldest member of the Associazione Marchigiana. An avid outdoorsman he had a passion for hunting, fishing which he pursued at his camp near Espanola. He was also an accomplished gardener. A determined individual, Aldo lived his life on his own terms. He was a keen observer of current events. His lifetime passion was dancing and music. Aldo inspired all who knew him. He will be missed but his memory will be cherished by his loving family and many friends. Beloved husband of Margherita (Vampa) Bardeggia predeceased 1988 and Nazzarena "Lalla" (nee Galanti) Bardeggia predeceased 1930. Loving father of Ada Elliott (husband John) of Palmdale, California, Mary Antoniazzi (husband Lino predeceased) of Sudbury, Loris (wife Yolande) (1st wife Patricia predeceased) of Sault Ste Marie, Elia Sartori (husband Louis), Victor (wife Faith) and George (wife Beverley) all of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in Italy. Dear friend of Ermida Rossi of Sudbury. MYERS, Marlene Therese Peacefully at Metroplitan Hospital, Windsor, on May 13, 2002, Marlene Therese Myers, age 52 of Windsor and formerly of Chatham. Born in Chatham in 1949, daughter of Edna Poissant of Chatham and the late Sylvester "Syl" Myers (1982). Marlene was a dedicated employee for 33 years of Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor where she graduated in 1969. She was a Radiological graduate and followed that with Ultra Sonography. Marlene will be remembered fondly by the many patients, all ofwho which she touched, for all of her kindness and caring. WW II Veteran, R.C.N. Canadian Armed Forces Captain Ret., R.C.A.F. On Sunday, May 12, 2002 at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Walter Hubert Arthur Brown, a native of Victoria, B.C. Former resident of Ottawa, and latterly of Mallorytown, Ontario at the age of 77 years. Beloved husband of Velma (Addie) Brown of Mallorytown. Loving father of Greg Brown and his wife Cathy Pearl of Calgary, Stephen Brown and his wife Karen (Reznick) of Ottawa, and David Brown and his wife Teresa McDonald of Perth. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Tyler, Laura, Taylor, Channing, Gabriel, Michael and Anna. Also survived by his brother Norman Brown and his wife Marylou of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Ireland. Captain Frederick Francis Passed away May 11, 2002. He was born in Victoria on July 7, 1914. Predeceased by sisters, Theresa, Eugenie, Mary and brother Robert. Fred is survived by wife Agnes (Street) of 64 years; daughter, Maureen Mooers (nee Doherty); grandchildren Michael of Ottawa, Deborah Mooers of Vancouver and Erin Monahan (Mooers) of Ottawa; great-grandchildren Tiffany Mooers, Andrew and Nicholas Monahan, and Tyler Mooers. He is also survived by sister Pat Leahy (Doherty) as well as many nieces and nephews. Fred attended St. Louis College and Victoria College. He first joined the Canadian Army in June of 1940. He served with the Corps of Royal Canadian Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (RCEME) as a Warrant Officer, leaving the service in 1966 with the rank of Captain. He joined the Federal Government, Manpower and Immigration in Ottawa and was instrumental in producing a Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupations for the Department as Head of Field Operations. Fred finally retired in September of 1974 and returned to Victoria. Many, many thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Oak Bay Lodge who gave him comfort in his last months and helped his family through his last hours with love and compassion. There will be a visitation for family and friends Tuesday, May 14, 2002 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at McCall Bros. Funeral Directors, Johnson at Vancouver Street. McNAUGHTON, "Mike" Michael Brian In loving memory of "Mike" Michael Brian McNaughton, 55 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Friday, May 10th, 2002 at his residence. He was born in Bracebridge and married Patricia (Noon) in 1968 in Gravenhurst. Mike was a well known professional speaker and seminar leader. He owned and operated his consulting company for the past 10 years. He was also an associate consultant with Drake, Beam & Morin. He was a member of the Human Resource Professional Association of Ontario (Sudbury Chapter) and Canadian Association of Professional Speakers. A proud and sober member of A.A. since 1979. Recently he had been a keen volunteer with Operation Red Nose. Mike had a big heart and he was always quick to help others. He generously share his great sense of humour with all who knew him.
