FLT. LT. RCAF "Old fighter pilots never die - they just fly away" On Sunday, May 12, 2002 at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) in his 79th year after suffering for many years from Alzheimer disease. Beloved husband of June (Cochrane) and father of John (Peggie) of Ottawa, Carol Laureys of Ottawa and Robert (Mary Ann) of Vancouver. Grandpa to Craig, Brandon, Alexandra, James, Matthew and Kristen. Predeceased by his parents Frederick Newton McFarlane and Mildred May McFarlane (Anderson), brother Thomas and sisters Iris (Wallace) and Marguerite (Beaven). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces including John Gary Beaven (Campbellville), Brian Beaven (Ottawa and London), Philip Beaven (Niagara Falls) and Michael Doucette (Vancouver). Norm was born in Ottawa on June 27, 1923 and grew up in the Glebe neighbourhood. Immediately upon graduation from Glebe Collegiate in 1941, Norm enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Initiation training was completed in Toronto, Flight Training in Regina, Fort MacLeod and Edmonton, and Operations Training in England. Norm executed his first solo flight on November 23, 1941, flying a Tiger Moth. After strenuous lobbying, Norm was seconded to the 610 Squadron (County of Chester) of No. 125 Wing RAF for operations piloting a Spitfire V B and subsequently a Spitfire XIV. The latter plane was noted for its five bladed prop and was in Norm's estimation "the best fighter plane ever built". Norm was a recipient of the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. On his return from the war, Norm joined the family real estate brokerage, investment and general insurance firm. A proud Canadian and a native of Ottawa, Norm always participated generously in local and national community and professional associations. He was a long-time member of Kiwanis, the Ottawa Executives Association and the Sodbusters Society. Norm served as President and Director of the Canadian Real Estate Association, the Ontario Real Esate Association and the Ottawa Real Estate Board and was a Past Director of A.E. Lepage Limited. In these capacities Norm became a renowned public speaker. Norm was instrumental in implementing licensing and continuing education for real estate agents and brokers and the transformation of this occupation to a profession. In the early 1970's Norm, as President of the Canadian Real Estate Association, provided the leadership and vision necessary to continue the exemption of the family home from capital gains and estate taxation. Norm greatly enjoyed sports and set several age class records in the high jump and hurdles. In his senior year of high school, Norm was named the outstanding high school track athlete in eastern Canada. This was a remarkable demonstration of his determination and the coaching of R.D. Campbell since Norm was not very tall for a high jumper and hurdler. He was an enthusiastic golfer and curler and a long time member of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. He was a long-time supporter of the Ottawa Rough Riders, the Ottawa 67's and the Ottawa Senators as well as the Queen's Golden Gaels football team where he enjoyed watching son Robert play. Norm enjoyed many years of cottaging; during his youth on the Ottawa River at Woodridge and later in life on Big Rideau Lake near Portland with June and his children and grandchildren. In characteristic fashion, Norm celebrated his 70th birthday in 1993 by water-skiing on one ski on Big Rideau Lake. Norm and June celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with many friends and family on June 25, 1999 at Big Rideau Lake. Norm was an avid reader, athlete and friend to everyone. Known for his infectious smile, Norm will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him. Instead of flowers, donations to The McFarlane Family Fund for Alzheimers Disease (a field of interest fund within the Community Foundation of Ottawa) or the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa-Carleton would be appreciated. EVANOFF, GeorJeana "Georjie" (nee Chalmers) - At the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on May 10, 2002. Beloved wife and best friend of Nicholas Evanoff (45 years). BONAZZA, Bruno In loving memory of Bruno Bonazza, 79 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Saturday afternoon, May 11th, 2002 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Memorial Site. He was born in Serra S. Bruno Catanzaro, Italy and married Fiorina (Dominelli) in 1949 in Italy. Bruno came to Canada in 1949 settling in Sudbury in 1954. He was a smelter worker at the FBR Plant having 25 years at INCO, retiring in 1985. A devout Roman Catholic he attended St. Anthony’s Church. He was an avid blueberry picker, gardener and in younger days wine maker. His passion was bocce having developed and maintained the bocce courts in Delchi Dozzi Park for many years. A well respected and liked member of the local Italian community he was a member of the Calabraese Club and the Cavaliere Della Patria. Bruno was devoted to his loving family, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Beloved husband of Fiorina (Dominelli) Bonazza of Sudbury. Loving father of Teresa (husband Palmerino Rocca) and Linda (husband Roy Cividino) both of Sudbury, Rose predeceased 1995 (husband Eugene Giannotta of Sudbury) and Vince (wife Sherry) of Bowmanville. LEMIEUX, Daniel Aimé - 1947 - 2002 C’est avec une profonde tristesse que sa famille nous apprend son décès survenu subitement à l’Hôpital Général de Chapleau le 8 mai 2002. Époux bien-aimé de Lorraine (née Brunet), père affectionné de Lianne et Joël et fils de feue madame Antoinette et feu monsieur Raoul Lemieux. Il laisse dans le deuil son frère Raoul Lemieux (Paulette) de Timmins ainsi que leurs enfants Duane et Carla et sa soeur Suzanne Lemieux de Chapleau. Daniel a travaillé 22 ans pour le Ministère des Richesses naturelles avant de devenir gérant des Services environnementaux à l’Hôpital Général de Chapleau en mars 1990. Dès son adolescence, il fut très actif au sein de la communauté de Chapleau. Sa vit fvt un trèfle à quatre feuilles : sa famille, les volontaires du Département d’Incendie, le Club de Ski oO il fvt président près de 40 ans, et ses collègues; tous ont bénéficié largement de son dévouement. Nous avons été des plus choyés de le compter parmi nous. Sa détermination entra”na des développements considérables dans maintes activités, tout particulièrement pour les enfants. Membre et chef depuis 22 années du Département des Incendies de Chapleau, il s’est donné sans compter pour le maintien de la sécurité. Son approche toute personnelle des plus méthodique et consciencieuse pour protéger no vies demeurera mémorable. Il avait sans cesse à coeur son équipe et la sécurité de la communauté. Jour et nuit, hiver comme été, il était toujours prêt à servir de son mieux. Toujours à la recherche de méthodes et d’approches pour améliorer le Département, il leur manquera cruellement. Travailleur consacré à sa tâche, il visait non moins que la perfection. Travailleur acharné à la poursuite de standards élevés, Danny a largement contribué au bien-être des bénéficiaires de l’hôpital. Des dons à l’Hôpital Général de Chapleau seront grandement appréciés. STONE, Ingress May 14, 1918 to May 5, 2002. Ingress Stone a resident of Kenora, Ontario, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Born in England on May 14, 1918, Ingress moved to Sault Ste. Marie to raise her family and worked at the Tourist Information Center. She moved to Kenora in 1967 and married Elmer Stone. Ingress enjoyed reading, bowling and bridge at the Seniors Centre. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her sense of humour and straightforward manner. She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands Doug Irvine and Elmer Stone, daughter Marsha Whiddon and sister Audrey White, as well as sister-in-law Joyce (Mack) Nicholson, Wilf Hussey and Tom Wardlaw. Ingress will be sadly missed by her sons Tom (Sheila) and Paul (Carol) Irvine of Sault Ste. Marie, Bob Stone of Pittsburgh and Jim of North Bay, son-in-law Albert Whiddon of Kenora, sisters June (Jim) Campbell, Victoria Wardlaw, Carol (Ron) Andrews, brother Chuck (Diane) Glover all of Toronto, as well as sister-in-laws Madeline (Dave) Waldie and Marg Hussey, along with her grandchildren and her many friends and relatives. Daughter of the late Irvine and Ethel Perley-Robertson of Ottawa, granddaughter of Sir George and Lady Perley. Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert Wright, twin brothers George and Alex (Anne) Perley-Robertson and sister Claire (Jack) McCordick. She is survived by her loving children Cathy Wright and George (Patricia) Wright of Ottawa, Allen (April) Wright of Calgary and grandchildren Kimberley (Paul) Boston, Heather (Lee) McCaskill of Ottawa, Graeme, Julia and Christopher Wright of Calgary, Kristian (Sondra) Allen, great-grandchildren Colin, Luke and Eli McCaskill, Trumann Boston and Avery Allen, and her sister Anne (the late Floyd) Caza, all of Ottawa. Throughout her full life, mother's sole focus was to her extended family, providing love and support to all, but especially to her children to whom she was devoted. No matter what the joy or the problem, she was always there for her family with great advice and a sense of humour. While we have such wonderful memories, mother will be sorely missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staffs at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, the Civic Hospital and the Royal Ottawa Hospital (Lady Grey 3) for the wonderful care they gave mother during her illness. After a lengthy illness, on April 23, 2002. Predeceased in May 2001 by his wife Elizabeth. Survived by his sister Jay and his children David (Ana), Peter (Jill) and Diana (Jeff). Andrew was born in London, England on June 2, 1932 to Dorothy and Hamish Macpherson. He grew up in Newfoundland, Montreal and Ottawa. Andrew's great and abiding love of the North was inspired in his late teens by his friend and mentor Tom Manning, whom he accompanied on numerous collecting expeditions for the Geological Survey and the National Museum of Canada. He studied zoology at McGill University, where he met Elizabeth; they married in 1957. After completing his PhD in 1962, he began his career as a federal civil servant with the Science Council of Canada and the Departments of the Environment and Indian & Northern Affairs, in Ottawa, Edmonton and Yellowknife. Andrew's passion for observing nature and for hunting and fishing (his authoritative Canadian Ice Anglers' Guide was published in 1985) inspired many friends and colleagues. In his later years, he devoted himself to geopolitical and environmental causes and founded the Sustainable Population Society. Throughout a long and debilitating illness, during which he suffered the loss of his beloved Elizabeth, Andrew's humorous and inquisitive nature endured. The family would like to thank his kind and compassionate caregivers at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and at Laurier House Strathcona, and above all the friends whose visits brightened his days. Reginald Milfred Cresdee Of Battersea, Ontario passed away at the Kingston General Hospital on April 20, 2002, after a short illness. He was 77. Reginald was born in Kingston, Ontario, the son of the late Sidney Cresdee and Gertrude Cresdee (nee Pollitt), and lived in the Kingston area all his life. He was an orderly at Fairmount Home, and worked for Tom Disney’s Goodyear in Kingston. He had been retired for 16 years. Reginald attended Victoria Public School, Central Public School and the Public School on Colborne Street, all in Kingston. He attended the Pentecostal Church. Reginald enjoyed duck hunting and working in his greenhouse. He is survived by his wife Audrey Mildred Cresdee (nee Paige), his daughter Darlene Matson, son-in-law Ivan Matson, grandchildren Mark and Melissa, four great grandchildren, and soon to be grandson Billy Williams. He was predeceased by his brother Ken Cresdee and sister Elma Pettitt. The funeral was held on April 25, 2002. Rev. Lewis Bryant officiated.
